Hello everybody
I received an unlock code from T-mobile for my Vibrant, but it gives me an "unlock unsuccessful" message. I called T-mobile, and they essentially told me "it should work, sorry." I was wondering if the problem might have something to do with the fact that my phone is rooted...
And if that is an issue, can I use the nandroid method to unroot it? Odin doesn't seem to work for me; it always stops at "file analysis." I've heard that other people using Windows x64 have the same issue.
Look at the IMEI in the e-mail they sent you. Make sure they copied right. It will be on the top left 3rd line down.
Yeah, the IMEI is right. Also, I've heard that it's possible for these phones to be hardlocked... is there a chance that the seller accidentally hardlocked it before sending it to me?
I don't think so. T-Mobile would be the one doing the hard-locking.
Is there any other way for me to unlock the phone?
I was rooted when I requested the unlock code from tmo - it worked as expected
You didn't get your phone directly from tmo?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I have to wait a month until i can get mine unlocked.
I recent;y had another phone unlocked from them.
I didn't buy it from tmo, but I don't see why that would make a difference... they still gave me the unlock code based on the IMEI I gave them. They say they can't give me another unlock code, and I'm currently 7000 miles from the nearest T-mobile store (that was their "solution" - go to the store). Any idea whether it'd be worth it to try sinking $30 into one of the eBay unlockers?
I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code: "network lock request unsuccessful"
I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code it says "Network Lock Request Unsuccessful". Apparently the only way around this is to remove the Network Lock all together. Removing the network lock is done through unlocking software but unfortunately there is no software compatible with the Vibrant as of yet. Getting another code will not work either as your IMEI will give you the same code again. i just purchased an I-Smart SIM card, hopefully this will work. I will keep you posted
Don't buy from ebay EVER!!
Unlock codes are free from TMO
The sent me my unlock code 3 days after I bought it. It didn't work at first. I called TMO apparently my IMEI was truncated. they sent new unlock code and it worked perfectly.
Remember if you put your unlock code in to many times unsuccessfully, there is nothing TMO can do to get it unlock. It has to go back to Samsung
The reason I asked if you purchased the phone from someone else but TMO you might want to contact the seller and see if they can help you out.
they must have given you the wrong unlock code. Also, if you entered wrong unlock code 3 times, your phone will freeze and you would have to buy a unfreeze code online.

I go mine unlocked on ebay. It coast me $29 but well worth it. Took the seller 3 days to get the code and it worked.
Also T-MOBILE does not hard lock these. they can become hard locked if you enter the unlock code unsuccessfully 3 to 5 times. If you got that message once... i would not try again with that code. I would just get it from Ebay... T-mobile does not have a good track record with unlock codes for the Vibrant or the Garminfone

That is the reason I bought it from eBay. It took 15 seconds of my time, and the seller sent it within a few hours. By contrast, I have to figure out whom to email at Tmo, give them time to generate it, and then get it back to me. Certainly not worth my $30 to do more and wait 3 days.

Uhm...you can get one for free even if you don't have tmo? Who do I send this email to?
I would like to know if i flash over my phone to use Android will I then be able to use it on another Network?
on a different network no. rooting your phone does not sim unlock your device. if you call your provider they normally dont have any problem giving you an unlock code for your device. im on the tmobile network and i wanted to unlock my old phone to sell on ebay (unlock can fetch more $) so i called tmobile, they gave me an unlock code (free) i put a at&t sim in my phone to complete the process and it was done. really very simply.
i purchased the phone from CL and i was on a month to month plan with T Mobile for about a year and I did not renew this month. Do I have any options?

You can pay $30 on eBay and get unlock code for it - that will get it unlocked and then you can use it on any other network.
BTW - if you get the unlocking code while you have Android on your phone you can still unlock it with your code you get.
yea i've seen unlock codes on ebay as low as $10, it all depends on your phone.
i would still try t-mobile anyway and say you use to be a customer and you wanted to unlock your old phone so you can sell and use it on a different network. the most they can do is say no so there wouldn't be any harm done in still calling. i think that they would still do it. if you reach someone and they say no, hang up and try 1 last time. i always get conflicting stories everytime i call t-mobile anyway so you might just luck out.
(they unlocked an old phone i wasn't using with t-mobile, giving i still was under contract but they still unlocked a phone that wasn't on my contract)
I called T Mobile and told them I am going overseas and I need it unlocked the rep told me he would submit the request and I will get an email within 5 -7 days with instructions on how to unlock the phone. That is a long wait I did not know it took 7 days to do anything anymore. Oh well .
Thank you all for helping I appreciate it.
if you need to unlock a phone to go overseas i think its a different process so maybe thats why its so long because it only took me 10 mins to get the code from them.
T-Mobile uk charge £25 and theres a 28 day wait for them to snailmail the code to you.
Unlocking.com was £10 and 10 minutes.

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the unlock code at this time. After review of the account we have determined that the device is not in use with the corresponding mobile number. T-Mobile policies and procedures state that the device must be in use on the mobile number requesting the unlock code. If this is a new device please allow 3-4 business days prior to submitting a new request to allow your usage to update in our system.
Looks like I will have to pay...
That really doesn't make much sence because they unlocked a phone I no longer was using. I think I was using my hd2 for 6 months when they gave me the unlock code for my mytouch 3g slide. Well it was worth a shot...kinda goes back to me saying I always hear conflicting things from t-mobile.

I contacted T Mobile on 3 other occasions and recieved the same answer 1 manager told me to contact HTC Directly as that is how they get the unlock codes but that did not work.
However I found a company that provides you with the code. It took him 7 minutes and only cost $7.00. He had a perfect rating on ebay well 99.9% and he provided pre purchase QnA via direct email.

I'm wondering if anyone knows the number of digits the unlock code for the GS2 should be.....I received a code from cellunlocker.net and due to poor instructions and myself being uncontrollably impatient to use the phone on telus put in only part of the code..or so i beleive.
They sent the code in this format NETWORK:=48684XXX;PROVIDER:=69599XXX;SUBNET:=85256XXX;DEFREEZE:=05193XXX.
I've used 2 attempts and REALLY want to know its right before i enter it again, so i'm wondering how many of these 4 sets of numbers do I enter?
Sorry for the double post but I wanted to make sure it wasn't overlooked.

Oh, it was cellunlocker.net.
I tried putting the first 8 and the second 8 seperately once each...
I'm too afraid to try putting all 4 sets of numbers in now until I know for sure since I only have 1 attempt left. ; ; Stressin' me out lol
what code are you putting in, provider, network or what. It is a 8 digit code,

I've tried entering NETWORK:=48684XXX THEN PROVIDER:=69599XXX
Both seperately, making my 2 attempts. I havent tried subnet or unfreeze.
I'm thinking i might have to enter network, provider and subnet together? Or should I include unfreeze as well?
I got mine from them to, tariable customer service i called to cancel the order and the their amazing phone dropped my call 3 times, and theirs still charging me for the code, bull****.
Anyways you want the network unlock buy its self, I hate to say if you did not tape you trying to put it in you have just wasted 40 dollars!
Ok... this is my admission of temporary retardation.
I mistook my sim-lock for the network lock key. fml lol
I've figured this out, the network code worked, thanks for the help guys.

I have to admit that everything about that website makes it look like its a very elaborate scam eg: The 800 number goes to an obviously computer generated female voice, rings 5-6 times and disconnects. (this was during business hours) + Many seemingly fake testimonials and my code took 3 hours longer than the longest average time but it turned out ok.
I seem to have a problem here.
So I entered my IMEI (yes I triple checked, it is the correct one). Selected Samsung manufacturer, then I selected Galaxy SII model and then selected Bell network.
I received the similar email as you, Yajirobe, and I turned the phone off, inserted my Rogers SIM card and then obviously turned on the phone.
I inserted the NETWORK 8 digits values and it still says that what I entered is unsuccessful.
Yajirobe, may I ask what you mean by "I mistook my sim-lock for the network lock key"?
You guys actually paid to unlock your phone???
Honestly, I have tried cellunlocker.net many times, and it worked flawlessly each time. One thing I dont get is I always got a SIM unlock code, threw it in there and bam wham thank you ma'am.
What are you guys facing exactly. I used the service b4 on 3 mt4g and on sgs vibrant. Just got a Virgin brand sgs2. Please advise.

OP, I am glad it worked for you, I was gonna offer to give you the money back if it failed lol...cus I recommended u to use it.
Anyways cellunlocker.net does look like a scam site but they do work. They are posting its business on howardforums.com (good mobile website) and haven't got any troubles yet so I know they are reliable.
Also I would like to know what you mean by " "I mistook my sim-lock for the network lock key"?" too, lol I didn't quite get that either.

I had my telus sim card set with a pin, but the sim lock screen looked different on the galaxy than on my milestone. Pin locks are set up by the user only and are off by default, which makes it even more silly that I didnt catch on for so long. lol
Way to tell the difference for sure is if there is an unlock button and a dismiss or skip option as the sim lock cannot be skipped.
I'm still unsuccessful to unlock my phone! I emailed and sent videos to cellunlocker.net and they keep giving me alternative insctructions to unlock and none work. I may expect a reimbursement soon.
In the mean time, I just rooted my Android and installed that Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock. It says that it would not find the unlock code!
I don't know what else to do!

Try Galaxy_S unlock instead. You'll cry in fear after step 2, but those tears will turn into tears of joy shortly after
Ok I will try this but I need clear step by step procedure. I will find one but if you know, please post is here.
I have had my SGS4 but used as stock as not felt the need to to root it, when my sim contract ended i cancelled it and have decided to sell the handset, i came here to unlock it as i have done with many other phones, i have tried both methods of sim unlock available but it would seem they have been patched by samsung, i next thought that rooting the device would get the phone unlocked somehow. Initially i thought there was something wrong with the phone as when i put in another sim it says that no sim card is inserted, the phone was originally on Tmobile UK and i upgraded to EE from phones4u..the SGS4 was not purchased from a Tmobile store and was bought online..i took it to shop today and they put in a active tmobile sim and it worked perfectly..so i guess that some sims are showing point blank as not inserted and some are requesting a sim unlock code (02 sim), how can i now go about unlocking this phone ?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Some extra info...further reading seems to suggest i need to downgrade the modem but i have read in a thread thats not possible now ?

I have no idea where you have bought the phone from, but for me - obviously from TMo as the phone is locked with them.
Again, I have no idea how it is with TMo, but O2 UK have the policy that after half term of contract, if you'll call them, they are providing you the sim unlock code for free (they done it for my HD2 and later for I9300). Most likely, you have to call the TMo customer support for that.
My wife paid them £20, had to wait 20 days, then found out they mucked up, and had to wait another 20 days.
I would prefer not to pay, i am pretty sure Tmobile are not going to unlock for free, i will try though.
I find it hard to believe there is not a hack of some sort now my phone is rooted, other than the code and system menu method (which is patched now) i cant find any solid guide
EDIT: Basically they want £20 to unlock, which i politley told them to poke up their bum

I don't understand why they just don't give users the option to flash to the stock vanilla android and allow them to install which Samsung tweaks they want and don't want to use.
You could try inserting something else into your phone.

You do not need a T-Mobile account. Try to call T-Mobile internationally or contact them thru the twitter account. According to the website this is the only requirements to unlock it
--
Unlock requirements
We provide mobile device unlock codes free within two business days (or provide further information about timing) for eligible devices.
Device eligibility is determined as follows:
The device must be a T-Mobile device.
The device must not be reported to T-Mobile as lost, stolen, or blocked.
The account associated with the device must not be canceled, and be in good standing.
You have requested no more than two mobile device unlock codes per line of service in the last 12 months.
The device must satisfy all the Postpaid or Pay in Advance (Prepaid) Unlocking terms outlined below.
T-Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.

They require you to use their service for 40 days, i mean you can tell them that, because u are in italy, and there is no way for you connect to their server and ask for temporary unlock, and you need it to be permanent unlock ( one of the xda user did that).
What are the chances that they will not be able to unlock the phone even after 40 days since it is bought from samsung and not from T-mobile?

honestly is base on your luck, luck here is that, you actually talk to the specialist otherwise, you just gonna talk to some dumb people.
I bought mine from Samsung, paid in full, received it on 4/21 so it's 36 days and program tells me not eligible, called CS, told me to download the program that doesn't work, called Samsung was told to call t-mo. Such a Bu???t and how T-mo will know I paid for the phone to Samsung? I probably will download eng boot and install unlocked FW, but not sure if that's going to work, last carrier phone ever. Actually it was my fault, should have returned the phone back to Samsung first week, when they send me locked phone without the unlocking code. BTW for OP to pay $130 to unlock the phone that should be unlocked to begin with (if it was paid in full as OP said) is wrong.

Went through T-Force on Twitter and seemed to have gotten a rep on the first go who understood the situation and submitted my IMEI number to the right place. The rep needs to submit your IMEI to one of their highest level tech support engineers to be added into their "device distribution inventory system". This makes it look in their system that your phone was sold by T-Mobile and came out of their inventory. If they just try to whitelist your IMEI in the Unlock device app, that will not work. This needs to be done 100% on T-Mobiles end, Samsung will not be able to do anything, and you will want to bash your head into the wall after talking to them, totally useless.
T-Force:
That's correct. Even in attempting to "whitelist" the device, this would be unsuccessful since the phone wasn't purchased from T-Mobile. The escalation I've submitted is going to our highest tier of support, so if anyone can do it - they will be the ones. Hopefully this helps to clarify things!

I am right there with you. It definitely makes things harder on both sides since the phone isn't technically bought from us, even though it is branded a T-Mobile phone and our system rejects any IMEI that didn't come from our inventory. None the less, we're all about giving you full access to what is yours. Teams are currently working on a process update that'll make things a lot more seamless, but in the meantime we've got this work around! Device is fully unlocked, tested with an AT&T SIM card and everything worked fine. After 2 reboots the Device Unlock app even disappeared from my phone. I'm so happy with how fast T-Mobile dealt with this. The more people that make a stink about this issue on social media hopefully T-Mobile will find a permanent fix for people buying a SIM locked at full price and have it easily unlocked under their standard procedure.

Go though T-Force on Twitter ( https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp ) the phone reps seem to be totally clueless about this issue. It will ONLY work when your devices IMEI is added to their "device distribution inventory system" and not just whitelisted in the Unlock Device app. This makes it look to their system (and the app) that the phone was sold by them and came out of T-Mobiles inventory.

on the June 20, I went to the T-Mobile store on the 21 and added insurance and they're charging me 15 a month because I didn't buy it from them.
Got home and called T-Mobile to add the imei, they were gonna give me the run around and I said politely that samsung is gonna tell me to call tmo, she wait a moment and spoke to someone, and she sent the request in,
waited 3 days, and the device didn't unlock, checked the website and til today to check device status it doesn't have any info, but called T-Mobile and the rep transferred me to his supervisor, and he said he will take care of it, to wait at least 3 days for the email, and yesterday I tried the device unlocked, and it worked. Then later during the day I received the email from T-Mobile.
Be polite, and let them know u will be leaving the country, it sometimes it works, most of the time even buying from T-Mobile paying in full, they make me wait 40 days.
I also told them that is why I stopped buying from them directly,
