[Q] Unlock won't work... - Vibrant General

Hello everybody
I received an unlock code from T-mobile for my Vibrant, but it gives me an "unlock unsuccessful" message. I called T-mobile, and they essentially told me "it should work, sorry." I was wondering if the problem might have something to do with the fact that my phone is rooted...
And if that is an issue, can I use the nandroid method to unroot it? Odin doesn't seem to work for me; it always stops at "file analysis." I've heard that other people using Windows x64 have the same issue.

Look at the IMEI in the e-mail they sent you. Make sure they copied right. It will be on the top left 3rd line down.

Yeah, the IMEI is right. Also, I've heard that it's possible for these phones to be hardlocked... is there a chance that the seller accidentally hardlocked it before sending it to me?

I don't think so. T-Mobile would be the one doing the hard-locking.

Is there any other way for me to unlock the phone?

I was rooted when I requested the unlock code from tmo - it worked as expected
You didn't get your phone directly from tmo?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I have to wait a month until i can get mine unlocked.
I recent;y had another phone unlocked from them.

I didn't buy it from tmo, but I don't see why that would make a difference... they still gave me the unlock code based on the IMEI I gave them. They say they can't give me another unlock code, and I'm currently 7000 miles from the nearest T-mobile store (that was their "solution" - go to the store). Any idea whether it'd be worth it to try sinking $30 into one of the eBay unlockers?

I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code: "network lock request unsuccessful"

I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code it says "Network Lock Request Unsuccessful". Apparently the only way around this is to remove the Network Lock all together. Removing the network lock is done through unlocking software but unfortunately there is no software compatible with the Vibrant as of yet. Getting another code will not work either as your IMEI will give you the same code again. i just purchased an I-Smart SIM card, hopefully this will work. I will keep you posted

Don't buy from ebay EVER!!
Unlock codes are free from TMO
The sent me my unlock code 3 days after I bought it. It didn't work at first. I called TMO apparently my IMEI was truncated. they sent new unlock code and it worked perfectly.
Remember if you put your unlock code in to many times unsuccessfully, there is nothing TMO can do to get it unlock. It has to go back to Samsung

The reason I asked if you purchased the phone from someone else but TMO you might want to contact the seller and see if they can help you out.

they must have given you the wrong unlock code. Also, if you entered wrong unlock code 3 times, your phone will freeze and you would have to buy a unfreeze code online.

I go mine unlocked on ebay. It coast me $29 but well worth it. Took the seller 3 days to get the code and it worked.
Also T-MOBILE does not hard lock these. they can become hard locked if you enter the unlock code unsuccessfully 3 to 5 times. If you got that message once... i would not try again with that code. I would just get it from Ebay... T-mobile does not have a good track record with unlock codes for the Vibrant or the Garminfone

That is the reason I bought it from eBay. It took 15 seconds of my time, and the seller sent it within a few hours. By contrast, I have to figure out whom to email at Tmo, give them time to generate it, and then get it back to me. Certainly not worth my $30 to do more and wait 3 days.

Questions About Unlocking An HTC HD2

Hola peeps. I just ordered a new T-Mobile HTC HD2 off ebay Saturday, and i'm expecting it between tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm going to need the phone unlocked, and am planning to buy a $10 code off ebay. Now, has anyone else done this and it works? Where do people normally buy their unlock codes? If I accidently put in a wrong code how many tries do I have before it locks up? What happens when it locks up? Will a hard reset fix the lockup? Would someone here be willing to call T-Mobile for me if I give them my IMEI and ask for an unlock code? Thanks, hopefully I can get all my questions answered!

I've never tried to unlock a phone myself, I've always taken them to the store and had someone there do it.
Anyone else wanna take a crack at those last three?
I think its 4 incorrect entries, and i also think it has to be reset by the carrier (or maybe manufacturer)
but maybe thats just poeple getting confused with sim card lock.
Hard reset wont affect it, its part of a different system within the phone, same with the unlock itself (when it works) and also the same with total call duration timers.
Ugh, so if I call T-Mobile, can I get an unlock code? I don't have any proof pf purchase and i'm not a customer. If I gave my IMEI to a person on T-Mobile could they unlock it for me if I cant?

T-Mobile can't unlock this one right off the bat.
As part of their new "Security", they changed the way the phones are locked now.
HTC is the only one who can get the unlock code, but they will only respond to T-Mobile.
You have to request the unlock code from T-Mobile and they will contact HTC, who will email the unlock code back to T-Mobile, who will pass it on to you. This process can take several weeks, depending on the workloads at each end of the process.
All of this is explained in those links I gave you from my first response, but some of it is buried in deep.
I am not a fan of T-Mobile's new security policy, but it seems to be effective.
I saw a post just the other day where someone with a newer phone than mine (bought mine April 4th) couldn't get it unlocked with the current commercial methods and would have no choice but to finish paying the phone off before requesting the codes from T-Mobile.
If this continues, T-Mobile should be seeing a slower attrition rate with this phone than they have others, with new customers ending their contracts and moving to AT&T or Rogers (etc.). Once they see a difference, you can bet your bottom dollar that they will continue to release phones that are manufacturer-locked, making it as difficult to unlock as possible.
So if I call, will they give me an unlock code? If not can I ask someone I know to ask for one?

How sketchy are the ebay unlockers?

I have not ever done this before, but I found this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-Code-AT-...Accessories&hash=item1c138c9851#ht_4764wt_913
I was wondering if any of these are legit or do they all fall into the realm of too good to be true. I have called at&t and they stated that I could not have an unlock code so that is why I am going down this route, if it turns out to be legit.
Anyway I welcome your feedback about what may be just a dumbass question, LOL.
p.s. the only reason I am looking at this guy's page is that he has +50000 reviews with 99.8% quality.
my one experience with an ebay unlock code was it bricked the phone I was using. After doing further research I found that this was a constant for that phone. I have not seen any posts about unlocking an Aria yet but I also have not been looking for them since I am on AT&T so there is no need to unlock the phone for a different carrier currently.
that's the same guy i used to unlock 3 at&t phone. i never had a problem
If you are going out of the country then call att and tell them that. they will give you your unlock code for free all youll have to do is get a different (Non att) sim.

They changed that policy. Now you have to wait for your contract to run out before they will unlock your phone, even if you tell them you're traveling. I tried calling them and having them unlock it, and that's what they told me. I was really disappointed too, because they've unlocked my phone before and never gave me any trouble because of the contract.
Maybe if I had threatened to unlock it anyhow, I might have had better luck– but I doubt it.
Ya I tried calling them too. Told them my situation and it was denied. I guess I will try this guy. At the most I am out 10 bucks.

Strange, I just re-upped my contract when buying my Aria, and unlocked my phone with the code from ATT tech support for free. I do go internation a few times/year, so that may be a flag that I am not entirely lying, but it was no problem. Also, I used chat, instead of phone...they gave the my code in 10 seconds.
So I took the plunge. Fast service from this guy. Bought yesterday and got today. Went by t-mobile store and borrowed a sim. Put in unlock code and let me in the system. Rebooted to verify with t-mobile sim. Did not ask for code the second time.
Altogether happy. Me -$13.00. Phone unlocked.
Buyer beware. Cannot guarantee same results.

just curious so please forgive me but how did that go, you walked into store..umm, can I borrow a sim ? they just hand them out to try out ?
I spoke with ATT tech (actually chat and then called to verify..) and they said they will give unlock code in 90 days from day of activation, no problem on their part, no cost.
i'm curious about all this too and still with a locked HTC Aria.
I went to the ebay link and read everything.
At some point it says:
"...be advised I cannot do refunds if phone asking for a PIN (personal code) which is password set on the phone (?)"

Well if this is my phone and I have the personal password, then I might have it.
When inserting a SIM card the phone says:
"SIM network unlock PIN", SOOOOO, I don't get it... will write the guy an email about it and hear what he says about it...
Eager to unlock this phone!
So..
1. I have heard various things from people regarding what AT&T will do for them. I would call them first and if they will unlock it for you then great. I spoke to them and they would not give it to me and told me that they had an exclusive right to the phone for the foreseeable future.
2. I did just walk into the t-mobile store and ask for a sim. The girl looked at me puzzled and said they are 20 bucks. I told here I need it for five seconds to unlock my phone. She said that Phones don't do that. I said that I have the code. She gave me a used sim.
In conclusion I think that I did go searching for a credible way to do this. I don't want a million people telling me what at&t's policy is since I did call them though. At any rate I did unlock my phone so I am good.

May I ask you and if you remember what was the message the phone displayed before you unlock it with the t-moblie SIM card?
It was the message "SIM network unlock PIN" or what did it say?
I believe what you did, I've done certain type of things in past, walking into a store and asking for those sort of things... lol... great that it worked!
Ya it was something like "SIM NETWORK UNLOCK" not a personal unlock and I had to put in the 8 digit unlock code I bought off ebay. The previous post of mine was just about all the people stating all the AT&T policies that they have heard of and asking why I didn't just call them when I stated in my first post that I did. Also ya social engineering worked great there as they gave me some old sim to use they they found in a desk that didn't work but had a different network ID on it so it would prompt me for the SIM UNLOCK code.
seems then that I 'm having the same message, will try buying a code from the ebay guy then.
thanks a lot for your response.
PS. Calling AT&T wont work for me either as I bought the phone through ebay and I have not and will never have AT&T phone # or something to just simply call them and say 'hey I bought one of your phones over ebay, would you please give me the unlock code?' lol...
just bought a code from the ebay seller... will see how it develops and if the code works.
I will post results and everything related once I have the code
universal Sim
I have tried a few online sellers and they say a code is not available for my aria. Bummer, hopefully that will change. I remembered I had one of those universal sim chips like a Rebel Sim. I sort of works. Sometimes when I turn the phone on I can manually choose the network and get service, but most of the time it won't connect. Maybe I can buy a newer version of the universal sim.
Well dude, I got to say that the ebay deal really worked for me!!! Couldn't be more happy!
Was a little skeptical about it but just got the code on the email minutes ago and worked right away!!!
Cost me 9.95 because the price was reduced and paid with PayPal. Bought it in the morning and got the code minutes ago.
There's another ebay seller with the same price/offer which seems to work too (good feedback too)

---------------
Thanks to breakeven and xda-developers forum!!!
I decided to test this out today for fun.
I tried 3 different ebay unlockers (all were rated as top-sellers) and all 3 were unable to unlock my off-contract Aria (from Amazon). They did, however, offer to try on another server, at around 2-3x the original cost, which I refused and was refunded my money.
I really don't care if my Aria can be unlocked since I have no intention of leaving AT&T anyway, but I thought I'd share MY experience with the rest of you. YOUR experience may vary.
On a side note, I unlocked 2 different models of Blackberry (again, just for fun) a few days ago using one of those ebay sellers with no problem. So I wouldn't worry too much about getting ripped off (as long as they are top rated sellers).
tongas
hey tongas would you mind telling us which ebay seller unlocked you Aria?

T-mobile samsung vibrant - 3rd party unlockers

I'm looking at getting a Samsung Vibrant locked to the T-mobile network. I need the device unlocked to use on a network in Canada. Due to not being a past or current t-mobile US customer I won't be able to get the unlock code directly. Does anyone know of a reliable 3rd part unlocker that sells codes to this device?
Thanks in advance!
2 options
1. Get an unlocked one (buy it outright). If it is locked, a quick call to T-Mobile should get it unlocked. Anyone know any different?
2. Wait 90 days, then ask T-Mobile to unlock it. They've always been good about that in my experience.
Call T-Mobile and see what their policies are WRT this.
Call Customer Care and request an unlock code. TMo emailed me the code in under 48hrs.
I tried calling tmobile customer care. They won’t process the request since I don’t have a tmobile account. I’ve purchased unlock codes from two sources: unlockallcellular.com and ebay seller "unlockadic". Hopefully at least one of them comes through with a code.
UPDATE: I received the 8 digit unlock code from the source below. Unfortunately I do not have the device yet. Hopefully it works when I get the phone next week.

I had the IMEI to the phone I purchased before it was shipped. The seller took a picture of the device information sticker on the box which has the IMEI on it. I wanted to get a head start on finding a unlock source since the device was so new. Just in case it took days to weeks.

If you don't mind, can you outline the process for requesting the unlock code from t-mobile given you have a copy of the receipt? I've heard of a few individuals successfully doing this. I called T-mobile customer care directly and they refused to provide an unlock code unless I have a current or past account.

Just call customer care, say you purchased the device at full cost and would like to unlock it. If the representative refuses saying you need an account then they didn't verify the policy before they told you that. At that point you have a choice between simply giving up and going to ebay, insisting that you were told you could unlock it, you can hang up and call back, or you can request a supervisor. They will request that you fax the receipt it, and you will definitely want to get the unlock request #, as there is no account to note the unlock request on.
I may be bias in saying this, but its preferred that you just go with T-Mobile as your carrier anyway... (though that may require a substantial move on your part or significant roaming charges...)

So what person did you get the unlock code from? I'm about to buy a Vibrant myself, also which carrier did you end up getting it unlocked for. Just curious.
The calling option only works if you have a TMO account. If you are using a pre-paid (tmo) type they wont do it.
You need to buy the code. I can get the unlock codes for around $25 dollars or so.
Sometimes less. There is no direct PC unlock (cable unlock yet). Best is IMEI unlocks.
I just purchased the vibrant as well and am currently awaiting an unlock code from "unlockadic" I will also update just to show support for any others that want to have a different carrier
Just had my vibrant unlocked. Yesterday I did a online chat with at mobile csr, told him I'll be traveling soon so I need the unlock code. The csr asked for my email, phone model and IMEI and replied me with the unlock request #. Today I got the code from t mobile by email and it works! You can pay $30 on eBay and get unlock code for it - that will get it unlocked and then you can use it on any other network.
BTW - if you get the unlocking code while you have Android on your phone you can still unlock it with your code you get.
yea i've seen unlock codes on ebay as low as $10, it all depends on your phone.
i would still try t-mobile anyway and say you use to be a customer and you wanted to unlock your old phone so you can sell and use it on a different network. the most they can do is say no so there wouldn't be any harm done in still calling. i think that they would still do it. if you reach someone and they say no, hang up and try 1 last time. i always get conflicting stories everytime i call t-mobile anyway so you might just luck out.
(they unlocked an old phone i wasn't using with t-mobile, giving i still was under contract but they still unlocked a phone that wasn't on my contract)
I called T Mobile and told them I am going overseas and I need it unlocked the rep told me he would submit the request and I will get an email within 5 -7 days with instructions on how to unlock the phone. That is a long wait I did not know it took 7 days to do anything anymore. Oh well .
Thank you all for helping I appreciate it.
if you need to unlock a phone to go overseas i think its a different process so maybe thats why its so long because it only took me 10 mins to get the code from them.
T-Mobile uk charge £25 and theres a 28 day wait for them to snailmail the code to you.

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the unlock code at this time. After review of the account we have determined that the device is not in use with the corresponding mobile number. T-Mobile policies and procedures state that the device must be in use on the mobile number requesting the unlock code. If this is a new device please allow 3-4 business days prior to submitting a new request to allow your usage to update in our system.
Looks like I will have to pay...
That really doesn't make much sence because they unlocked a phone I no longer was using. I think I was using my hd2 for 6 months when they gave me the unlock code for my mytouch 3g slide. Well it was worth a shot...kinda goes back to me saying I always hear conflicting things from t-mobile.

Hello,
I don't think there is any other way to unlock the atrix besides buying an unlock code. Unlock codes are fairly cheap on ebay, where I got mine. These are the guys that I used http://www.ebay.ca/itm/UNLOCK-CODE-...742?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb89f6246 .
hope that this helps!
hey i know about the site giving unlock codes ,i have tried cellunlock.net site but they said they cant get me the unlock code so i am confused is it worth trying on other site as i heart cellunlock.net is quite best in its work.Give me a suggestion should i try this on other site. They give this message like this
Hi
We checked the IMEI you provided again and the code is not available for that phone. If you have another phone you would like to unlock, email us the IMEI/Provider and we will try to get the code for that phone.
If not please reply to this email with "REFUND" in the email subject and we will issue refund.
What should i do?
If the phone is on AT&T, call them.
They give out the unlock codes for free as long as your account is in good standing.
The easiest way is to use their online chat support.

I've been with AT&T for over five years in good standing and they wouldn't give me the code either. Their excuse was that Motorola wouldn't release the codes.
I ended up unlocking mine through cellularunlock. Then went to wwwDOTpsouza4.com/bionic/#root to root.

They give out the unlock codes for free as long as your account is in good standing.
I've been with AT&T for over five years in good standing and they wouldn't give me the code either. Their excuse was that Motorola wouldn't release the codes.
I ended up unlocking mine through cellularunlock. Then went to wwwDOTpsouza4.com/bionic/#root to root.

The codes are available. AT&T unlocked my ATRIX over chat.
Took 5 minutes.

Cellular unlock works great, pretty fast too. Only option really if you're not in the states. If you have an at &t number online chat supposedly works great.

yeh i have given my order for the unlock code to cellunlocker.net ,on the site u jst have to put imei no and see that ur phone is available in their database. Also they say on there FAQ that if the code is not found on the AT&T database than there r other options to get the code directly from the manufacture,as i put my imei no on the site they say that the code is there in there database, but i dont think they wll be able to provide me through AT&t .I am waiting for there reply if they say they cant get me the code through AT&T i wll go to the manufacture method.Hope my code come this time.
I am skeptical about unlock codes. At first I bought one on ebay it did not work. Then I got one from at&t , it did not work either. I had at&t sim inside while unlocking. I think I blocked the unlock feature by trying too many times.
YES it is possible to enter an unlock code with at&t sim inside if you enter special service code first which bring the unlock menu.
Any thoughts?

obviously it's not if you used this method and none of your codes worked.
This may have changed, but the guy at the at&t store told me a few months ago that once your phone is over six months old you can just call at&t and they will give you the code.
