Good-bye Nexus One - Nexus One General

It has come to that time... I have sold my beloved Nexus One patiently waiting for the new Nexus S to be released... I had the original t-mobile version ordered it the day it went on sale and loved but it was getting tired of it and needed a new gadget. Using a blackberry in the interim until the new S is released, this way it will make me want a Nexus S even more when they are released.. Thanks for all the tips and help!

how much did you sell it for and where if you don't mine me asking.

guess some people need the newest of things...the phone is less than a year old.
But it would make sense to sell now rather wait till the 2nd one comes out for less $$$$

I'm not sold on the Nexus S. My buddy has a Galaxy S and I don't like it. It has a weird blue tint to the screen and feels like crap.
If they make it look sexy I might jump. I don't think the Samsungs even include a trackball/optical sensor which would suck. Having a HTC Diamond 2 without such sucked. Trying to correct a word and tapping and tapping and tapping just to get the cursor in the right spot... eg

That's exactly why I don't like the Galaxy S. If the N2 does not have a trackball, Gingerbread should integrate something like the iOS has. That zoom type thing that it is really helpful.

gah, i switched from the Captivate to the N1, and not looking back. Samsung sh*t is worthless when they fail to do testing on the products prior to release. (non-working GPS, SLOW-ass filesystem, etc)

If only I could boost my internal memory
I too have started thinking about selling my phone. With all the apps taking up more and more space and Froyo's lame app2sd feature. Unless someone's mod really can make a good app2sd use of my sd card then I too would need a new phone sooner. Thought about the Galaxy S phone but without a flash how can I find my keys in the dark. If only there was a way to add the 16 gig the Galaxy S has for internal memory to my Nexus one and I'd love it for years to come.

Root it and apply app2ext. It will give you plenty room.
I don't think trackball will ever come back. Even HTC has gone away from it. Yes Samsung S line is crap. But nexus S at least will have Google support. That's the only reason I might consider upgrading from my n1. But its not enough for me to ditch my n1.

I have over 150 apps, over 60mb left of internal phone storage. Max partitioned SD card is 1gb. FYI, the SGS only has about 1.7gb of app storage, which is nice, but not worth it over a nexus one

I do with mine, all my friends do with theirs. It's something you learn to live with, but it's the only thing that prevents me from recommending the Nexus and Desire, for example, over any other Android phone for most people. I always have to explain that there will be weird screen behavior from time to time.

I do, occasionally. Someones presses on the screen either don't respond or register as a press elsewhere on the screen.
Its very rare for me though and it's certainly not an issue I think about.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

That's happened to me once but I haven't experienced it since. The haptic buttons took about a week to get used to, but my screen is gravy.
Sent from my Google Phone

I've experienced it with the lock slider. It didn't respond. Only happened once, though.

i would keep mine if it wasn't for the unfixable keyboard issue

i would keep mine, but i'm just tired of it. listed on craigslist for $400

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't; I know Froyo on the SGS already has a similar such thing when I tried it. I very much doubt google would do away with such a thing and then not give you any alternative.

the horrible touchscreen on my nexus is just as bad as the other issues that the samsung phones have. no such thing as a perfect phone

Not as much now. But thats just part of the problem. Its A LOT easier to type on 4 inch screen then on 3.7, u would think that 0.3 is not much, but it is. Also I like that even on lowest brightness and direct sunlight I can still see on my Vibrant.....cant see **** on Nexus without using auto brightness.

[Q] Are you happy with your Atrix purchase?

Hi all,
Well it's been a good few months that you guys over in the States have had your hands on the Atrix.
The release is apparently 'imminent' here in the UK, so hopefully this thread and your feedback will help us decide whether it's worth pulling the trigger or not .
Whilst we are fortunate enough to be expecting either one or both of the HTC Sensation and the GSM EVO 3D by July, they are both 4.3" devices, and the Atrix - at the moment - still remains the only dual core device that we'll be getting here in the UK .
So, honest opinions, if you had your chance again now, would you go for the Atrix? Or hold out for something else?
Voting appreciated.
Pros/Cons would be ideal.
really loving mine. I have had two blackberries, 8330 and 9650 bold with os 6.0, all iPhone versions and numerous other stuff.
I love the Atrix for the 4" screen... the new 4.3" ers are too large for my hand.so 4" is the perfect screen size compromise in my opinion
the software is exteremely fast...
so yes, Im really loving mine to be honest.

^ Exactly why I'm still contemplating the Atrix. 4" is juust perfect
However, talk of everything being locked down is disappointing. Having run a HTC Legend, I'm lucky that we've had some dev backing, which has enabled me to run CM7 and a few other ROMs. Without this kind of dev work/support, I'd still be on FroYo at best...
The Atrix really, really, seems to be lacking on the dev front - it seems to put so many people off, and more significantly, the developers

this phone is really nice with a quick response. much faster than that of the galaxy s. even the original rom is already good enough.
the high resolution is really nice to let you see more on the screen
but the poor thing is the screen lost touching after touching too long!

Can you please elaborate a little on the bit in bold please?
I really like the Atrix and have owned one from its release date. Very fast and has many useful applications right out of the box. The virtual keyboard is much better than other Android phones I've owned, though I must admit that I do still prefer a physical keyboard. I have owned the G1 and Nexus One and like this phone much more than those.
There is only these "regrets". I wish the boot loader and software was easier to circumvent for custom rom installation. And I wish CyanogenMod had a ROM available for it. He does such great work.
I'm going to try to be patient and wait for the Motorola released version of Gingerbread, but I might try Gingerblur if it takes too much time to get an official release.
Very fast, great handset functionality, nice keyboard, great size, and the screen is beautiful. No regrets buying one with the exception noted above.

I love my Atrix. It's the first Android phone I've had. The iPhone 3GS was a perfect fit in my hand, and the Atrix feels exactly the same, albeit the buttons are in different places. I prefer my Atrix over the iPhone, and have found that even with it being locked down, the opportunities for customization are still way above the iPhone.
Is the Atrix fast?............Yes...............How does it compare to other Droid phones?..............I can't answer that one.
^ Thanks - a Scotman in Boston?? Can you bring me a GSM Atrix on your way back to the UK
The screen is bad. PenTile matrix is more visible on Atrix than on Amoled PenTiles despite higher resolution. Small text is blurry with visible pixels. Blue/green colored icons etc has very visible pixels. Blacks are grey and the screen suffers from banding / not showing true color. Scrolling in menus with small text results in flickering and inability to read the text. Moving the phone, like giving it a short twist makes pixel-patterns temporarily occur in bright areas.
The power-button is among the worst buttons ever put on a mobile phone. It has no feel, almost no travel and is placed in a 45 degree angle which makes it even harder to press.
Pinch zoom in the browser and photo gallery is extremely(!) choppy, much worse than many single core phones.
The camera is not good with tons of noise. The front facing camera is almost a joke as it produces cartoon-like pictures.
Other annoying thing is that it isn't possible to turn of the vibration of the google-buttons.
I have no idea what the he'll you're talking about. Because the fact that the 3.5 mm jack is on the right hand side, they couldn't have put it there. The lock button is also a biometric sensor, which saves me alot of time. It's not awkwardly placed once you think about it. Because it's a 4'' phone, the form factor is rather large. Not having to stretch my finger joints out to the very top seems like a bit of an advantage, no?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
And most if the lagging issues are w/ Motoblur. Get rid of it, and problem solved. The camera is a bit weak, but i'm not here to complain. I prefer a standalone camera anyway.
Overall, an exceptional phone that's a bit rough around the edges, but that'll sort itself out soon enough. Either from Moto, or third-party.

Wanna sell me that worthless thing for, $25.00?
I really like my atrix. I would buy it again.
Wife has an Iphone... She wants my atrix now.
Seems to be a lot of Professional phone users out here...
Hell, i'll take a second one. Never hurts to have a backup. If you want an awkward lock button, try the Galaxy S. That stupid thing is on the side. Whenever I use my friend's, I always end up locking the thing by accident or nearly ripping a hole in his USB port cover...

When I leave this phone, it will be multi core(so not a nexus s), it will not have a locked/cryptographic signed loader(so not an evo 3d), and it will preferably be a four inch or smaller screen (I may have to concede on this one though the way they are going)

Wouldn't get my hopes up for Honeycomb, Google pretty much stated HC is tablet only and Ice Cream Sandwich is going to replace both Honeycomb & Gingerbread by the end of the year. So more then likely we'll get ICS long before we see HC for phones.

I'm guessing you had a Moment? The Transform is actually pretty nice for a low to mid level device.
I would also have to agree that when I switch from my shift a dual core is a must. As far as the Nexus S I wasn't impressed by it's design nor its specs. No expandable memory being on of the biggies. And no improvement in processor versus previous galaxy s phones, not 100% sure. I can't see what this device has that makes it superior to others, rather than just being vanilla android.
I'm not happy with Samsung's plasticy feel of their devices either. Makes them feel cheap. I do like the AMOLED screens but not the dotted effect that some (including me) can see.
However, I am seriously giving the Galaxy S II phones consideration when choosing my next device. Specs wise seems rather nice. Has dual core processor, nice camera, and expandable memory. And the Super Amoled Plus screen seems to correct the dotted effect of the previous Amoled screens as the rgb colors are evenly presented.

You my friend need to root your phone. Secondly, the nexus S 4G has not been out very long, and samsung is typically slow on the updates. I do not know if you ever had an EVO 4G (not shift), but when i originally had mine, it was absolutly horrible in terms of responsiveness and battery life (battery still sucks). This was 3 months after its release.
Why is this in the shift forum? Not to be an ass but I don't think this is necessary or productive. We need an offtopic forum lol

This is just a guess, but I think ALOT when on behind the scenes on the Nexus that we don't know about. I mean how would google allow their flagship phone to come out with technology that is outdated by almost a year? I think this phone was in development, and got held up, and by the time assembly on it started it was too late to scrap it. That's why there is another rumored Nexus that should be ready come Holiday season. Have to make up for your mistake somehow.

Screen Comparison - LG G2x vs Samsung Vibrant

I am getting tired of waiting for a new phone, and am interested in getting the LG G2x. I understand it has its issues, but im willing to give it a shot, plus i will be putting CM7 on, which I believe fixes some of the said issues.
But my question is, how is the display (screen) of the LG in comparison to the Super Amoled of the Vibrant.
Is the Vibrant Significantly better? are they similar?
Any input would be appreciated.
Regards,
i have had both. vibrant and g2x. im going to go stick to my vibrant.

Us Galaxy S users have gotten spoiled by the AMOLED screen, I could never use another device that didn't have one, I even find the screen on the iPhone 4 to be lacking, but thats personal opinion.
As for upgrading to the G2x, save your cash and upgrade, my mother has one, basically no difference from the vibrant, except the lack of the AMOLED, which is the first thing you notice.

I was going to ask about the gps. I am really getting tired of not having a phone with a gps that I can trust to take me to my destination. I had the G1 and the HD2 and could trust both of those phones to take me to ther right place and not lose the signal 10 times on the way.
Working GPS doesn't mean a whole lot if the phone reboots or hard freezes to the point of requiring a battery pull at least 5 times a day.
I went through FOUR G2x's in a month and each and every one of them had the same problems...
I tried all of these:
Stock
Stock with absolutely no apps installed except for what came from the factory.
Stock with root
Stock with root , again with nothing but what came from the factory and superuser.
Custom ROM with root
CM7 with root
Under ALL of those conditions it had the same problems.
They should have named it the LG Crash-o-matic.
I'll take my Vibrant any day of the week over it.
By the way - don't let the "speed" fool you - they actually sped up the speed of the animations to make it look like it was faster.

actually my gps works fine (well as good as a vibrant can be expected to. on cm7 and i bought my vib on release date), since you didn't pick up on the obvious sarcasm....
I just got a G2x a few days ago and updated to official Gingerbread right away. So far, I have not experienced a single freeze or reboot. The GPS locks almost right away. I came from the Samsung Mesmerize (Galaxy S, SCH-I500) which had a TERRIBLE GPS.
As for the screen, the Mes may have been a little better but honestly the G2X still has a fantastic screen, one of the better ones. It's an IPS LCD just like the iPhone 4.
And the phone is FAST.

Umm, really? The Vibrant is a wonderful phone, but it's not nearly as powerful as the G2X. OP: Go to your local t-mobile store and compare the two side by side for yourself. That's the only way you'll know. But as others have said, unless you're going to another Samsung device, prepare to get a crummier screen.
I love everything about my new sensation, but I really miss SAMOLED.

Playing with the phone at the store and having one in your possession for more than just a few minutes are two TOTALLY different things... Sure, it may have a 1000 horsepower engine, but when it's running with only 1 quart of oil when it's supposed to have 4 or 5, things aren't going to run right.
The phone may be powerful, but it's a piece of junk when you get right down to it.
Yeah the screen on both phones are great, but why sacrifice a small screen difference for stock gingerbread, raw power (tegra 2 dual core) and a better camera, capable of 1080p. The gingerbread update fixed almost every single problem. The phone just flies. Yes our phones are great and I love the vibrant, but if you're looking for a powerhouse update soon, I'd go for the g2x

coming from the nexus one...

I've been using my trusty Nexus One for 2 years now, and I rooted and plagued it with custom roms since day 1 and stands strong till this day....however I want a new phone.
The Note appeals to me very much. I like the Note a lot, but the size....just seems too impractical?
Is it practical for field work? Like sales reps?
I don;t want the SG2 as everyone I know has it....i like to be different! XD
Suggestions?
*i know opinions might be biased since i'm posting is this thread, but guys, try to be neutral, plz
I had a Nexus One for 2 years and thought about getting a new phone.
galaxy nexus was 4 weeks away and it didn't have a sdcard slot (I use about 7gb for spotify, 5gb for offline maps, Podcats, Gamefiles, etc.).
In the meantime the Note came out and I gave it a try.
It's great, love it.
The size is fine for me.
I would have a Nexus if the Nexus was first. But don't know how I would have get around the 16gb.
i went from a G2 which is around the same size as the Nexus One, and i've owned a Nexus one as well.
anyway, you won't have any trouble with the phone for 'field' use. with the exception of everyone stopping and asking you where you got that gigantic phone. maybe consider getting a case for the phone as it feels too thin for as large as it is when your trying to get it out of your pocket.
The Galaxy Nexus should be your choice, you might find it hard to live with a non google reference device.

he's talking about the infrequent software updates. so far development on this phone has been somewhat lacking compared to the Galaxy Nexus and the SGSII. or maybe they're just waiting for better ICS sources. either way it's troubling at the moment.
Well it's still a niche phone. Not many people will use something this large. I however LOVE it. I did have an issue with my first one as the screen would pulsate a green hue. I didn't want to be a whiner but eventually decided to send it back. GLAD I DID! The new one I got has a much better screen with whites and no issues. It's good.
However I recommend it for people with larger hands and I highly recommend getting one of those TPU cases with the grips on the side. It makes it MUCH easier to handle.
Just moved from the outdated 4.3" HTC HD2. It was a window phone and the biggest at that time. A good phone with lots of possibilities and can port Android and also Window 7. A great feature of that phone is the ability to use dedicated GPS such as Garmin, Papago etc - a feature I missed in the Android.
I am new to Android and just got my note over a week ago. I love the enlarged screen and seem to function as small tablet. I am not familiar with using Google map as a GPS and realized that it is not so detailed in my country. So I am still using my HTC HD2 for navigating here.
All said, I still love this Note and size is not a problem with me. Now I can defer getting the Tablet and need not carry too many devices.
I use a belt pouch to carry it around and have to problem with it.
came from a nexus one as well. The N1 screen size made browsing and gaming pointless and chore-ish for me. I really wanted to get an ipad2 but didn't really like its low res screen, and was afraid I would get a new phone as well to replace the aging N1. Then the note came out, made perfect sense to me.
Everyone asks about the phone, most love the size but are afraid it's too big to pocket, and then I show them it fits even in my slim-fit levis.
Great!
I just got myself a Note and it's fantastic!!!

Updates and developments are better and faster on a google reference device. I could possible by the most trouble free device ever as far as andriod is concerned.

Day 1 Note 1 user on using new Note 2 for 1hour.

I have never been more thrilled with a new phone as my first hour with this....and Ive been using Smartphones since 1998...they were smart then werent they?...well we thought they were.
Usually
I'm always dealing with something out of the box..not one dissatisfaction here..
Significant upgrade...which I had my doubts about.
A simply brilliant piece of technology.
A big salute to Samsung!
Note 2 is the smartphone to rule them all! Lol!

Hey Please give more details is it really worth the upgrade from note one... what did you really like compared to note

Please stop - finding it harder to resist the Note 2 every day!
Seriously though, every video review I've read makes it clear just how full this phone is of great features. I've never been a fan of TouchWiz and I personally think it looks dog ugly compared to stock Jelly Bean, but I can't deny that Samsung have built in some really useful features combined with the fastest technology available. I've heard complaints about price, but when I compared Amazon's price for SIM free to Apple's price for the iPhone 5, the Note 2 is marginally cheaper.
Have a ton of apps already loaded.
Take the N1 custom Rom that claims is the buttery smoothest and this kicks its ass without modding.
Take the fastest tweaked N1 custom Rom (tried em all) and this runs circles around it.
The screen clarity is better..more vivid...had doubts from comments here.
If you liked using the S-pen on N1...you'll love it here.
Multi Window functionality really is a revolutionary feature in a stock rom. Being able to have my notes app on the bottom and comment on a document displayed above it is superb. All the features Samsung hyped about in their release announcement....aint hype!
Its that good...and more.
Oh and I really like it!
So....all the many other new features on this that Samsung you can read a

I am also a Note 1 user/lover and have bought a Note 2.
Here are my initial thoughts:
Note 2 is much easier to hold... feels more like a phone then a tablet.
Note 2 screen seemed to be less bright/colourful as Note 1 but with a few minor adjustments from the default settings it is much better. Though i am still in 2 minds about which screen is superior.
Multi window feature is awesome.
Speed of the device is excellent.
S-Pen implementation is much better on Note 2 then Note 1.
Signature unlock has been removed (must have had issues), but we now have 'motion' unlock and a 'face and voice' unlock feature to compliment.
Apps do not have access to the external SD card... at all. The only app that can access the external SD is the built in File Explorer.
Swype is now fully integrated (ie/ it is the default keyboard and all Swype branding has been removed).
That's all i can think of for now!
its fantastic phone better then n1 in every department other then camera, images, text and icons. not as crisp or clear.
fixed all the parts i didn't like with the first note.
More ergonomic pen.
More uses for the pen.
Better battery-life.
feels better to hold.
LED notifications.
Smoother overall experience.
Screen don't feel as crisp but its still sharp and nice in my opinion. actually i find it just as good as the first Notes screen.
Camera is fast.
Speaker is great, even covering it with your finger it still hearable.
power and volume buttons moved down a bit for easier access.
micro SD card slot moved to a better location.
faster WI-FI.
GPS finds location quicker then my note, and finds satellites when the note dont. got 7 in view right now side by side with my old note.. the old note got 0 in view...
100% worth the money :victory:

I could not agree with you more. I have never been totally satisfied with a device before, but I am with my Note2. I usually change phones every few months, but I think this one will hold me until the Note 3 releases. How could anyone top this?

For now... a year later, frustrations as I said in my rants.
Delayed updates, no drivers, and that AMOLED screen will degrade to a point until you scream!

We get it, you have your thread complaining about the Galaxy Note II, now whilst you have the right to express yourself and your feelings about the phone. I'm tired of seeing you say the same old thing over and over and over again about the Galaxy Note I, which may or may not happen with the Galaxy Note II. We get it, sammy screwed you over, now get over it and go get your iPhone or whatever. Sheesh.

I think you really want the note 2, why do you stick around if you're that disappointed? I'm not a big fan of iPhones and I certainly don't hang around in iPhone forums. We get it you don't like it but we do and you won't change our mind. Go enjoy whatever phone you enjoy and let us be for crying out loud.
Overall I am very satisfied. Only 2 things is a little let down for me
- No preinstall polaris office
- Cannot change input method by long press on a text area (this feature was very usefull for me in note 1)
Apart from these...I am very very happy

Whenever you open the keyboard you can change the input method via the notification tray (long pressing a text area was removed in ICS)
Any comment on the feeling of the home button? I have tried my friend's GS3 and don't like the cheap (like a toy) feeling when I press it. I hope the GN2 home button is smooth like the iPhone one

Wat? My Galaxy S1 (Which I preordered back then) is still in use by one of my friends. The display does not look degraded in any way.
