I've had my device since Tuesday and I'm loving the experience so far with the exception of this one problem - HTC Sync. I've searched this forum but couldn't find a solution. Basically I've installed the latest version of HTC Sync which installs fine on win7 64bit, however when I connect my phone to my PC, I need to manually run HTC sync and then it sits on the version screen saying that it's updating the HTC library. About 15mins later, I get the device screen were I can then select my device and what I want to sync. At the moment I just simply want to sync a few of my WM playlists (everything else syncs fine via google, FB etc). I managed to do this once and it took nearly an hour to sync 65 mp3.
It doesn't seem like anyone else is having this problem but it could be that I've got a setting on my phone that is incorrect. Thinking that it might be my 8gig storage card, I formatted it and started a fresh (all original content was backed up first). This had no effect. Surely it's not going to take hours to sync my phone every single time?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi all. Heard there's a newer version of ActiveSync on another thread. namely Activesync 4.1. Can anyone give any feedback confirming this (although I think it's still in Beta stage). If so, isn't it worth a try given the problems encountered on the Universal using just Activesync 4.0.
Someone must know!
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28535
Well I have it installed and I don't see anything different. Probably bug fixes. Won't harm to upgrade.
i have 4.1 running, dont know if its connected to the activesync on universal always restarting but i can only sync with pc if i have the universal powered off, then when plugging it in i see the orange power led kick in, 10secs ish later active sync will start,
if i plug in when switched on i get a error bubble on pc saying i have a malfunctioning device, power off and plug back in, wait a bit, i have a working syncing device. wierd!!!!
i only got usb1 on this lappy and my other has 2.0 had same problem, so i dont think its a usb problem
no bugs on my side
i installed 4.1, and it works like a charm on both pda2k and universal

It took a while to work out, but here it is: Skype works fine as long Activesync is not on. In the old machines, AS would kick in and appear in the memory only after you sync'd. Here it comes up automatically, whether you sync or not. In fact, you should see Active sync running in the background virtually always.
Clicking on the memory you'll see its always on, you press stop, and Skype works for 5-10 minutes, until AS turns tiself back on.
Any fixes for this in the registry?

Great stuff Nabil! Now, can someone please check if there are still issues with ActiveSync causing problems with Skype? I would do it, but I don't have my Universal yet! Waiting on the MDA Pro or Exec.
I'm not entirely happy that Activesync is workig the way it was intended & as I was unable to get this confirmed from several forum members, I ventured out of Xda developers.com to seek confirmation of my doubts.
I ended up reading a review of the new Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC, which as you may or may not know, uses WM 5.0 (but less the phone side of things). Not exactly to my surprise, i found that even in non-phone PPC devices, Active sync is a bit of a cause for concern!

Windows Mobile 5: Not All is Golden
I won't delve too much into Windows Mobile 5 in this review, since I'm focusing on the X51v itself, but I found Windows Mobile 5 very painful in two ways when I was setting up and using the X51v. First, after a hard reset I connected the X51v to my PC and set up a new partnership. ActiveSync 4.0 has a different partnership wizard if you have a Windows Mobile 5 device, and it's quite intuitive. I entered my hosted Exchange account information, then watched as basically nothing happened. The X51v synchronized with my desktop PC, but coughed up an 0x85020006 error when the device tried to sync with the Exchange server. ActiveSync 4.0 removes the option for Internet passthrough - I assumed that meant it was automatic, but after fighting with Connection Manager on the X51v for 15 minutes I gave up and disconnected. I turned on WiFi, and the X51v saw my access point - I entered my WEP key, started ActiveSync, and clicked sync. It worked! Within a few minutes I had all my data on the X51v - but why wouldn't the synchronization work in the cradle? I have no idea, but it's a serious problem.
Later, I wanted to see if a particular ActiveSync bug had been fixed: I've always had the problem where, after a backup and restore, the Pocket PC has been unable to synchronize against the Exchange server again. Only a hard reset would allow the Pocket PC to sync again. On the X51v, I did a backup using the included application, then hard reset and a restore. I restore the device, then after a soft reset I noticed the date was wrong. No matter, I fixed it and started a sync session. Much to my delight, the sync actually started, which is sometime that wouldn't have happened under Windows Mobile 2003SE.
My delight turned to disbelief, then anger as I saw what ActiveSync was doing: it duplicated 900 contacts, 50 emails, and 6 months worth of appointments! No warning, no "Replace, Remove, or Combine" dialogue box, simply a duplication. It will take me hours to fix this manually, unless I can find a tool to remove duplicates. I have memories of such a tool, but at this point I haven't had time to track one down. Any suggestions for one that will work with Outlook 2003 and an Exchange server? I'm unsure as to whether this is a problem with Dell's backup application, or with ActiveSync. The bottom line is that in this instance Exchange ActiveSync remains broken after a restore - and I'd rather have it break completely then duplicate all my data, so from my point of view it's actually gotten worse. I didn't think that was even possible!
Suffice it to say that while Windows Mobile 5 brings with it several key advantages - persistent storage is amazingly helpful - my experience with it so far has been mixed (WMP 10 Mobile retains its horrible library functions), and I have no shortage of feedback for Microsoft at the MVP Summit coming up in a few weeks. Windows Mobile 5 feels like one step forward and two sideways.

What do you guys think? I think quite a few problems Universal owners are experiencing will dissapear once MS fix their ActivShite application!
Hi there,
Over the last few weeks I have had a problem syncing mu phone, I am able to connect and browse and install software via my PC but it refuses to sync, it starts good by saying that it is looking for changes, then it asks me if I want to combine, overwrite and so on and then after I make my selection it simply says 'Synchronization Error' and remains connected but that is it.
I have tried upgrading and downgrading activesync and my ROM, but what ever I do I get the same result, I have tried on another computer also and still the same.
Please help me as I am going mad, it is not quite a brick, bu is not far from it if I can not get my information on to it.
Cheers
Update
After going back anf forth with versions, I managed to do one full sync ( thank God, now I have my data back at least). but now again, it is failing,WHY ? connection exists, browse and so on works, only the sync does not work.
Do you have bluetooth?
I has a similar problem, I setup a sync profile with my PC via bluetooth and synchronised it through BT. After plugging in the cable afterwards my Syncing was fine...
worth a try
syncing problems
I had the same problem but I seemed to work through it by removing the Mobile Sync 4.5 and re-installing it. It looks like it's not working, but after the install bar goes about half way, everything is on, including the calendar and the Outlook Database. Good luck!

don't know how or why, but 15 min ago i was trying to sync it with my office's computer and it worked.
now i came home to have my lunch, and it's working now...
I had this occur yesterday on my office and home PC. The PPC would connect via active sync, and files can be browes etc, but it will not sync with outlook. It just stays on 'looking for changes'
The only change I made was installing a trial of Spb Wallet - the PPC sync'd before the install but not afterwards.
I have uninstalled the trial, but the PPC still wont sync
It's like hit or miss every time I try to sync with my laptops.
I have 2 laptops, & I find it difficult to get my phone synced on the first plug. I find myself trying to sync again & again & I have to switch the laptop but having the same problems.
Sometimes it syncs, sometimes the phone couldn't find the HTC sync on the laptops.
What am I missing?
Please advice.
D
Hi dsymbol,
You are not missing anything. Unfortunately HTC Sync is very buggy and usually need to reboot PDA or PC to be able to sync.
since the Nodo update i've been having issues syncing with Zune. Zune recognizes my phone and all, a listing of photos it could not sync is listed with a yellow exclamation point next to it. followed the link to correct the issue, plus spent weeks searching for a way to solve the issue. with no avail. along with the listing of unsyncable photos, looking in the PC folders it monitors and generates for "camera roll" and "saved photos" from the phone is a huge list of .tmp files it generated.
i tried everything...uninstalled and reinstalled zune, updated zune, used an MS tool to reset the media files for zune...nothing worked. decided to give one last shot...wireless wifi sycning. which i'm happy to say WORKED.
which works out great. it's pretty quick over my wpa2 secured wifi at home and it allows the girlfriend to use the laptop and sync my phone without disturbing her
wondering if anyone is having this issue though with syncing??
Usually, if i try to sync around 10 or more songs, it says that there was a connection issue and i should unplug my phone and plug it back in. Any less than that and it does fine. Same goes for pictures, videos, and podcasts. If i only sync a few items, its no big deal, but if i want to sync more than ten different items, it becomes a pain.
Very interesting that you bring this up. My experience was opposite, detailed here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ws-phone/a495b87a-6361-4791-a2f7-ab5642dc9086
Basically, my wireless sync wasn't working, which led me to connect with USB, which revealed that there were some podcast items that wouldn't sync. However, all 30+ podcasts were syncing just fine for months...now suddenly 2/3 of them have corrupt items? Unlikely. I suspect the phone.
The error code I get is c00d124d.
after the nodo 7390 update it becomes a pain always receiving C00d124d message. I restore to 7008 and it worked perfectly again. i tried again to update the SW and the message appeared again
