ANSWER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88

Any of you guys who's got the files for flashing back to jm8? I downloaded the file from samfirmware.com but it seems to be corrupt and winrar only gives med a attention message teeling me that the file doesn't work. I need JM8 and also I would need the working files for jpa. When I downloaded JPA I only seemed to get one .tar-file
Thanks for any help you could give me

[Q] anyone mind extracting the rfs files from JMA firmware?

I dont have access to a linux box and I think in order to flash the latest JMA firmware from samfirmware i need to extract the rfs files in order to load them up via odin...if im completely off please disregard or point me to the correct path..
if any helpful souls out there that wouldnt mind extracting the files and uploading them here?
thanks
Im just a noob trying to flash the latest JMA firmware on my JM6 tab
thanks again..
EDIT - Thank you all for explaining it:
For anyone else presented with the same issue; use the zipped JMA file in odin in the PDA box and the pit file located at the bottom of the samfirm page when flashing the latest JMA firmware.

Extract them yourself by opening the file with 7Zip or WinZip. They're just archives.
Also - Should be in the General section.

The file you download is a zip file. Unzip it. There should be a tar file in there, tar is an archive format (similar to the way zip is, only it's uncompressed), so use 7zip or other unarchiving software to untar the file. There will be all of the JMA files including the RFS images contained in the tar file.

I see, so i downloaded a ziped file from samfirmware with the JMA firmware, unziped it down and got the pit file but there were no tar files in there for me to use in odin under the PDA box.
when flashing JMA what file do i put in PDA box? i pressume thats the only file i will use besides the pit file given that i dont want to replace the modem (phone) file...
I'm sorry if this is not making any sense

Use the JMA file here on XDA. Extra JMA.tar. Select that file ALONE as PDA. No repartition, PIT, Phone or CSC. It'll update PDA, Phone and CSC automatically.
If it doesn't reboot on its own after flash is complete, reboot into recovery.
You should be upgrading to JMA from JM6.
If you still need to extract/unpackage RFS->
Reffer to my guide here

Extracting new CSC (i9000OXXJP9) from cache.rfs

Hi Guys,
im wondering if anybody could help me.
There is a new Multi-CSC File existing which is updated and ready to use. This CSC is very important for all users who are hazzling with so called "Virtual Network Providers" which are located in many countries. (i.e. BOB in Austria)
as these people need to activate data roaming - this is very harming - now the new multi CSC is the solution!!
I see that all of that data is stored in cache.rfs and i can already extract/copy them.
But now i need to know what do i need all to extract, and how to pack it for flashing as a single file for odin.
This new Multi-CSC comes from stock firmware JPH/JPP/JP9
there is also an directory in system dir of cache.rfs called "T9DB" ...i think this could be deleted?
anyway.....there is nothing more in it .....so it would be able to flash the complete cache.rfs (tar it and make md5sum for odin compatibility)
just flashing complete cache.rfs is then without dangerous?
thanks for any hints!
furthermore i want to provide the new multi-csc as i think this could be very useful for us all.
thanks and regards,
You can use MagicISO or Poweriso to extract the new CSC from cache.rfs, and the T9DB I think that is the dictionary, and then read here:

HOW TO extract CSC, PDA, PHONE of different Firmwares

Hi @All,
maybe, there is a Thread bout this HOWTO, but I found nothing to use...
There are now different unofficial Firmwares, I flashed JM6-JMI, I cant remember, which CSC, PDA or PHone is really good, some FW dont have all these three things, so I want to extract this Files to have the ability testing JM6 up to the newest JMI....
My really problem is, how to extract these files and got it accurate!
jammysunny
It seems, there are no person to tell me how.....
This has already been answered.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879569
This will help. Galaxy S forum also has extra quality knowledge.
(Extract JMA.tar (for example) using 7zip to a directory. Then use MagicISO to open the cache.rfs to find a folder called "Recovery" Inside are two files. One says "command" and one says "sec_csc.zip")

make sure the radio is correct (phone.csc) since that contains the telephony device drivers and you must exersise extra care,
remember most SGY roms are built for GSM/Intl. Version,
try and asking anyone with a CDMA version if they have successfully flashed a custom rom with it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777579
From the link above - there are several dump codes fro example system , recovery, modem etc.
I want to know
is PDA = SYSTEM ?
Modem = Modem ?
then Which dump to take as CSC ?

I downloaded the latest firmware (so far) for the SM-G920F extracted the bootlader and modem files and converted them with this tool to .tar.md5 files to use with the latest odin.
You can use them to update to the latest firmware version without having to wipe your data or flash the official ROM.

I will tell you how to do it for the modem, but the same applies for the bootloader as well.
You download the program i linked you and extract it in a folder on you C drive (example C:\img2tar ).
You open the firmware you downloaded from sammobile with winrar or 7zip.
You extract the modem.bin from inside.
You place the modem.bim inside the program's folder (example img2tar) and run the batch.bat
A file named modem.tar.md5 has been created.Flash that file via odin.

Awrsome man, nice job. It's really slow to download the whole firmware so theese tars are handy .
I didn't downloaded it yet but from its name i saw that on bootloader you packed only the sboot.bin.
If you look at my release and open the allfiles.tar.md5 with 7zip or winrar you will see two files inside : sboot.bin and cm.bin.
Those two files are needed for the boot loader.
Now to make those two files a single .tar.md5 you need to copy them both inside the program directory (example C:\img2tar)
Then you run the batch.bat file like normal.
This time you go inside the created folder mame AllFiles and there you have the allfiles.tar.md5 witch is the complete bootloader with both files inside (you can open it with winrar or 7zip to be sure)
I kinda forgot to tell you the method above.By the way it would be a bad idea to renane the files.
