Hi,
I have the Desire HD and regularly use the Inbuilt Google Navigation. When I see the Adverts for Froyo, they show that while driving with Navigation, if you get a call, the Navigation pane will just scroll up, and show the caller details, with Accept & Reject.
But, I never seem to reproduce this behaviour. When I get a call while driving, the Navigation pane completely disappears, only the Call pane is displayed.
I have tried all settings, etc, but to no use.
I even tried the Premium Navigation but got the same result..
Any thoughts?
What you saw was the navigation HTC included. The feature you saw, you can only get it by paying some osrt of subsciption. It's the paid version so to speak
That's right..
I was not able to re-produce that behaviour until I was on the trial Premium Navigation..
As soon as I purchased the life time Premium Navigation, I am able to re-produce that behaviour.

I just received my phone today.I know that there is "Voice Search" and "Google Now" built in, but I cannot seem to launch them from the lock screen using a headset.
I have also tested the headset (3 button), and it does work; I can play and stop music both locked and unlocked screen and Google Now activates when I hold middle button unlocked, but nothing happens when the phone is on lock screen.
As far as I am concerned, "Google Now" & "Voice Search" are useless unless I can activate them while they are in my pocket, for driving and walking. Furthermore, when I ask it to send a message to someone, it simply displays the message, not repeating it to me, or asking me if I would like to send. I see lots of reviews, claiming "Google Now" is far superior to S-voice and Siri (iPhone) but in my opinion, they should not be categorized together, "Google Now" simply does not do the things I need it to do. If at any point, I need to look at the screen, or press something on the screen, the whole purpose of Voice activation is rendered useless. I cannot be the only one out there with this problem. I am open to any suggestions to solve this issue, or else I must go back to iPhone for the sake of the voice dialing that is headset activated, as well as the ability to read out my messages and send them.
I have tried 3rd party apps like Headset Button, with no luck and it still does not allow Google Now to run in the background with screen off, and requires another third party app, Screen Off & Lock to do just turn off the screen with a different combination of presses on the headset. The lack of any sort of physical button on the N4 is also another problem.
I am open to any suggestions or comments if I am simply just missing something from the features. Please excuse me if I sound rude or a hater, all I am trying to do is find out the problem to my issue, and potentially inform others if they have the same needs as me.
Cheers. :good:
So because it doesn't do the things YOU need it to do, they shouldn't be categorized together?
If you want to access Now with your headset then turn off the screen lock function.
AFAIK, I don't think Google Now will do the things you want it to do out of the box. If you're willing to use third-party apps, though, I think you may be able to get the behavior you need by using Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm). A quick search also turned up this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonalight&hl=en), which supposedly can read/send text messages by voice alone.
As far as physical buttons go, well .. that's something you're just going to have to get used to, sorry

Hi everyone who reads this, So I did my 4.3 update and now I notice the blue triangle Navigation Icon is missing, OK I might be slow here but how do I do Navigation now ? I can go into Google Now and say "Navigate to ......... " and it works, but before the 4.3 update I would turn on the navigation app and show my location on the map as I drove and t would give me traffic info etc, I can I get that back without specifying a location I am going to ? Sometimes I just want to see a map I don't want directions, like going to work, I just want to see traffic flow etc, yes sometimes I use Waze sometimes I use Google Navigation. I hope I am clear here, thanks.
They merged it all into one in maps so of you want to navigate turn on GPS and open the Google maps type in destination then on bottom right should say navigate

I thought that they might of merged into maps just not sure how to navigate, thanks for the info I will look into it .
Its confusing at first but play around with it. Type in destination in the search bar, then bottom right will show a car click on that car it'll pop up a list. Choose the desire fastest time to get to the location click on it then it'll bring you back to maps but now the bottom right should say navigate press on that and it should be on navigation

I've just updated to 4.3 and I have a Tasker task that open the Navigation app and despite there beig no navigation app on the phone, it still works.
It's indeed possible to still have the navigate shortcut working. I don't know how you should do it manually, but I did a nova launcher restore after upgrading to 4.3 and got the shortcut icon back. Still working fine, can enter a 'from' and 'to' and select the 'car', 'train', 'bike' and 'walk' method.
I think Navigation was always a part of Maps, not a separate apk, now just no separate icon.
It was weird how they came out with several updates over a couple weeks and how they tweaked the interface. First they let the Nav and Places icons stay. But then on a subsequent update they deleted them.
It's also weird how when you search for a destination you want to Nav to, you never know exactly how Google is going to present the Nav steps to you, huh?
What's really annoying is the decreased functionality of the Local/Places part of Maps. Way harder to get to and way less useful info.
About the only thing I like better in the new version of Nav is more accurate arrival time (but Waze still better), complete list of previous destinations, and switchable arrival time, minutes left and miles left.
But, you can't get to Local without quitting Nav, and Nav no longer clearly displays the name of the street you are traveling on. It always used to be listed at the bottom of the screen.
Sorry to resurrect this dead thread but I just had the same issue with the latest (11/5) maps update and I too lost the navigation icon. Here is how I got it back:
Note that I am using Nova launcher but might be the same on yours:
1. Find empty location on the home screen and press for a second or so until "Add to Home screen" appears
2. Select "Shortcuts"
3. Select "Activities"
4. Scroll down until you find "Maps", click once to expand the list.
5. Select "Navigation"
And that should be it.
My father has this device and has vision limitations and I set the display to use the Easy Mode. He told me that when he is on a call the mute and headset buttons don't show up. He has difficulty reading the top bar even with the large font selected. I think what would work for him instead of enlarging text in the bar would be to have a lock screen that has large icons/widgets that would be a way to fix this? Also is there a way for him to open either Waze or Google Navigation from a contact and also if S Voice would do this.
Also I don't want to anything that could be an issue with AT&T and his warranty. I know this might be a lot do but any help is appreciated.
Thanks

1.) Easy Mode does disable those functions when you're in a call. On a phone call, the only options displayed are "Mute", "Hide/Unhide Keypad" and "End Call".
2.) There isn't a way to "fix" the native lock screen with larger icons/widgets. The only enhancements you can make is the clock/date size from small, medium or large. If you do want customization for the lock screen, maybe search the Play Store for a lock screen launcher they may add the customization you want.
3.) If he is using a Galaxy S 4, Google Navigation is integrated into Google Maps now. Voice commands with S Voice will open native apps pre-installed on the phone such as this. That shouldn't be a problem. Waze, which is not native and is installed via the Play Store, probably will not open via S Voice. Again, there may be easier ways to do it. For example, I don't use S Voice on my GS4, I use Google Now.

Easier and integrates well with Android devices.
Hope this info helps!
Is there any method to turn off Google Maps notifications for Drive mode? While in Walking (or maybe even Bike mode) the notifications can be useful. Yet, when driving (especially for multiple hours), and having a phone as your main navigation the notification on the wrist are pretty annoying and also consuming the battery quite fast.
I know I can kill all notifications coming from Google Map in Android Wear app on the phone, but that would need me to re-enable it for every new Walk/Bike navigation, so that do not really solve my issue. Any ideas?
I really like it while walking in the city but while driving I just mute all notifications on the watch (Swipe down from top). I found it distracting otherwise.

Maybe this is simple answer. Given the fact that during the driving you have the screen in front of you anyway, why would you need notifications on the wrirst?
On the other hand it needs to remember to switch it off while you start driving (easy, you can do it once first uneeded GM notification pop-up), and, to switch it back on after arriving. And the latter one is more problematic. When I silence down my phone (i.e. due to meeting attendance) I often forgot re-enable sound after it. Same case, as here.
Seems Google needs to address it in upcoming Google Maps updates.
I agree. Very annoying to be driving and looking at your screen whole your wrist constantly vibrates.
When I make a call the nav bar is present, when I get a call while using the phone the call interface is smaller so I can still use the phone. But when I get a call while not using it the nav bar is gone (both while ringing and after answering) and the interface feels the need to take all 5.8" of space so I can't use the rest of the phone at the same time.
This is so annoying for me, anyone has the same problem? Some information : I'm using ExDialer but the actual call interface is stock. Nova launcher and I don't lock my phone.
