Support for rom and modem DK05 (Community) - Epic 4G General

I'm posting this in hopes of creating a thread pertaining to the issues being discussed in DK05
Feel free to post any issues that you may have came across. I personally have had no issues whatsoever with flashing this rom and modem combo. Except the LockScreen lag. LETS FIX THIS!!!! I will also post my Quadrant Scores, and FPS2D scores. The GPS locks have been MUCH more accurate and faster to lock as well.

I love how the evo scores higher, mainly because of JIT i'd assume. I have an evo as well and man is that thing slow as hell. Every aspect of the Epic is faster and Quadrant is a joke.
If you're coming here to flame don't do it. I don't want it and we don't need it. So do us a favor and grow up.

I believe the issue of the lockscreen lag has perhaps been fixed however its simply not being shared. My aim is to attempt to get the community moving on improving this near perfect build of DK05.

i installed it, but the lag is too much for me.. deleted this rom until a fix will come...

I really hope that everyone here at XDA can start to get along. I thought this was supposed to be a team effort. Well, that doesnt seem to be the case, at times.. SAD... But with that being said, installed and flashed fine for me, but it's way too early to tell... Thank you for taking the innicietive to start a thread on some support for DK07..
On another note, Hey Noobnl, whats up with the JiT for 2.2? I sure hope your cooking something up something nice for us!!

question on the updating modem with odin
So far this DK05 ROM and Modem is working great. I can confirm the GPS has improved. I can now get lock indoor and it is more accurate too. Thx
My question is in regards to the modem (odin). If I have to reflash the DK05 ROM with CW Recovery, do I need to redo the modem by using odin again?
thanks!

Apparently DK05 is old news already lol
(( DK17 ))is amongst some of us now
we need to be talking about that

No you do not, the Modem is COMPLETELY seperate from the .zips now because Clockwork mod cannot flash modems currently.

We're working with what we got man. I know that DK17 is somewhere but people won't let us develop it. :/

Why waste time on a beta, when it's becoming pretty apparent that the official release is not too far away?
This is just a huge waste of time, to get a jump on 2.2 a few weeks early. You've waited this long, whats keeping you from waiting now?

The fact that its taking even this long for 2.2 to come out in the first place. This is a JOKE. Samsung must have maybe one person working on the release, and if these leaks are any evidence they haven't made a whole ton of progress. We also got Samsung needing to update the kernel still. So I'd say we have more than a couple weeks of waiting. Maybe a month? Well either way, I want a jump now. Especially if it helps us create kernels for 2.2 or something, its about getting a jump on something before it even releases. You learn something.

Who said there isn't a 2.2 kernel running around for us? There probably is, he just didn't release it, infact...doesn't the original have a kernel with it? We just don't have the source so we can't make our own..could be wrong but who knows.
I agree, it's pretty beat that we've not got 2.2 officially yet, our time will come. I'm saying by the end of the year

I agreed. For one, I am extremely happy and grateful to have the DK05. The modem itself (with the improved GPS) is well worth jumping even if the official Froyo is one week away (I am just saying). The GPS lock & accuracy is day and night.

This thread is pointless. DK05 has known bugs and issues. DK17 will be out soon enough. I'm getting ridiculously peeved at the number of non-development threads in the development section. Not only that, Ranger88 stop spamming half the other threads with links to this utterly mindless thread.
We've all been waiting for froyo for weeks. You can wait another week or 2 at this point. You can't create kernels etc because we don't have the source. Sit your impatient ass down and stop spamming the forum.

Next is going to be 3.0 (gingerbread) which, tbh...will just be a marketing scheme meaning..just the new phones will get it for a while then MAYBE we'll be lucky enough to see it on our end.

Dj29, dk05 an dk17 all use a different kernel from what 2.1 used. We just don't have the source code for it (and won't until after release)

Gingerbread is 2.3 now. Honeycomb is 3.0 (fyi)

Why not just wait

Ok i know most here like myself want froyo pretty badly. Much respect to the devs here and cm for bringing us froyo but honestly until htc releases the kernel whats the point. From the froyo flashes i have ran they all are nice but there isnt any performance increase over the rest of the roms that have been released so far. Yes according to linpack and quadrant the current froyo is faster but in real world situations it isnt.
This is no way a bash to the developers. They have worked extremely hard so far to get us what we do have. I just say to wait for the kernel to be released and then let the magic happen.

I like trying new things. I just don't like that eugene and other devs release broken roms and tell us not to "complain" when all we are doing is stating what's broken
Let it be known I'm not trying to start anything. I guess its a reason to wait for offical release because nothin will be broken

Im not necessarily saying to wait for an official release. Take cyanogen mod 6 for example. They are putting alot of hard work into getting froyo to us but on the stock kernel. Once the kernel is released then there going to have more work on their hands.

*double take* What? Is everyone here daft? They do this out of the kindness of their cockles and tease us about not complaining and then make updates, anyway! I'm having fun, son! Lighten up, homeslice. Let's kiss.
Personally I really like that these ROMs are out. It's like a ray of hope that 2.2 is coming, regardless of what T-Mobile or HTC decide to do. The one thing I've been really irked about when it comes to the carriers and handset makers is that they don't seem as interested in new technology. When T-Mo says that the myTouch is going to get froyo, I am kind of thinking that there's no reason to hold your breath. Maybe froyo will come, maybe next year, and honestly I don't want to wait that long. So it's nice to see even these ROMs because it means that the stable version is coming, and not on a T-Mo schedule...
im waiting !!!! lol
First off, I really appreciate all the hard work the devs are putting in. I kinda notice that the other new devices are getting more love then the slide but I guess that's due to its lack of "hype" or maybe since it's still fairly new.
I must say I'm joining the waiting boat though. My first slide was a breeze to root and mod. Unfortunately, I took it in for exchange (squeeky battery door and dust under the screen). The new one hasn't been so easy to mod. I managed to root and flash Eugene's SMR5r1, which I had on the old phone and loved. Since then all attempts to get into Clockwork have failed. I'm chillin' until there's an easier method.

Did you flash Eng-Build? If you didn't then you won't be able to get into Clockwork.
you guys complain way too much. threads like these make the devs shut it down all together. eugene373 has done that before and if these bs threads keep getting created then we can for sure hang it up and wait for the official release. so just be a lil...(f*ck that), A LOT more appreciative of the devs and their work on froyo
we put out buggy alphas because you cant wait.
we say no feedback because we know its broken. we also run our own roms so we are also testing and fixing on fly

Anyways, I'm waiting for the official 2.2 as of now, I don't mind the wait, and I don't really like the roms put out right now, I enjoy using the custom Sense UI, that's one of the main reasons I got the slide. I really hope a dev starts improving on the espresso UI more. I appreciate all of the other work devs are doing, but it's too much vanilla android for my taste. After having a G1 and MT3G for a year you kind of want something new

Is the epic development thread dead?

We have lost our only true developer...we probably have about 2 or 3 working roms in total....and everytime someone tries to add something new they either get trashed or treated like crap by this so called "community"..i really wish this was more like vibrant or captivate threads...but i guess its not happening
Maybe we need to pony up the cash and buy a dev an epic.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Quit your yappin. Its not dead, devs are just waiting for a better working Froyo leak.
Android Central: We know everyone out there is waiting on Froyo for their Fascinates, Epics, Captivates, and Vibrants. Samsung has given the carriers their code, and the carriers are testing. We are waiting on them now.
Are you serous? There are devs still here, and they are busy. The only true dev? were you using andromeda before froyo came out? Why don't you be patient until the official froyo is out, the work is coming! Its hard to develop a rom without thee source code and no one is putting their time into 2.1 this late?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It's not that the dev community is dead. It's more like the calm before the storm. the anticipated official release of froyo is what everyone preparing for. Some are busy cooking roms for the leaked releases while some are digging into other similar official releases to hopefully get a jump start for the epic release.

I've been worried about this as well. While "the only true dev" might be an exaggeration, noobnl was one of our greatest assets. Isn't his Eclair ROM what basically all other ROMs are based off of? How about his Andromeda kernel? One-Click Root? His work with ClockworkMod Recovery? CyanogenMod? I'm hoping collectively all our amazing devs can fill his ginormous shoes. His innovations gave us so much.

Ok I may be wrong about "the only true dev thing"...I just want to understand why our community is isolated from each other...just take a quick peak at the facinate thread,a phone that came out almost a month after the epic...the development area its going smothly there. Even our own carrier has left us on the backdoor...how many updates had we have ...2....compare to 8 0r 7 on the EVO.

One-Click Root: A script. Very simple. The hack on the adb daemon (rageagainstthecage) that it uses works on every > 2.1 Android phone and was done by a brilliant dev at c-skills.blogspot.com I believe.
Andromeda: Another kernel. Mine wasn't based of his at all. Devins is based off mine, and possibly a few of noobs tweaks haven't checked. Hero's wasn't based on it. Not sure about fluffkernel or any of the others.
Clockwork: Point for you. He did get the ramdisk working with it, but koush did most of the work on the final version.
Cyanogenmod: WesGarner's work for the Vibrant, but with an Epic kernel & ramdisk.
Not saying he didn't do anything, but I AM saying that people blow everything out of proportion without realizing how simple some of it is, either from ignorance or just misunderstanding.
It's the holidays. Cut them some slack.

There are lots of great developers/modders on the EPIC forum including noobl. Right now, without the final release of FROYO and without FROYO sources, everyone is on a standby.
For the 2.1 ROMS, EPIC Exp and Syndicate are both great 2.1 ROMS. There are several great 2.1 kernals as well. With so many great 2.1 options, not much more that can be tweaked that is truly interesting.
If you're interested in playing with beta 2.2 roms, there are few great options there as well. In fact, within 24 hours of the DK18 leak, there were three ROMS to choose from. Not bad.
Regardless, you'll see this forum pick up pretty quick after the final release of 2.2 and 2.2 sources.
Of course by the time 2.2 comes out for EPIC, google will release gingerbread and everyone will be asking when gingerbread will be coming out for EPIC. Not going to hold my breath for that one.
I came from the hero and that dev community was amazing. The debs here are great but it definitely isn't as exciting as I feel the hero rout experience was. I recall thread suggestions and devs quickly entering with an affirmative answer or why it wasnt possible. I made a simple request about the vanilla lock screen and never heard anything. I do love what the devs have done though.

Please tell us the reason for that is Samsung is actually trying to fix all the issues..and not them implementing say bloat ware or being slackers,,right?
Selling your EPICs or switch them back for the EVO won't help minimize the problem that we have here....we need to think of a way to get the drama out of this forums ....to keep it clean of negativate things, come on pleople...this isn't the place to start whining cus your girlfriend dumped you or cuz you personal issues with yourself....we all have different reason to be here....beta testing, developing, to improve our phones or even to mess with it up to point we either break our phone or make them better than anybody else's
A lot of what you guys are seeing is vert similar to the moment community. When I had my moment things always got dramatic. I think it was mainly out of frustration towards sprint. You see it even now there are rumors that froyo is being pushed back but sprint won't say a damn word either way and in the end they will conduct themselves in a way that will make epic owners feel slighted their pr dept must suck. I say e ask ban together and make this pioneer great because like with rhett moment spring isn't going to make out great our dev's are going too. And fyi i don't think noob will ever be gone he just went underground. He's working behind the scenes he loves deving too much

[Q] Pace of ROM development?

If this question just irritates anyone, mods feel free to delete it.
I'm curious at what is holding up the pace of ROM development for the Shift? There have been some nice quality ROMs out so far (BCNice in particular, some great work), but it seems like development has stalled slightly. Is there something that HTC hasn't released yet, or some major firmware hurdle?
Remember, this is NOT a complaint about the devs, far from it, just curiosity.
I here where you are coming from. I don't have a shift I have an evo. But if you really feel that strongly about it you should try just making your own. When I was using sense rom's that's what I did. I was able to customize the rom how I wanted put in what I wanted and so on. You should try that.
And please don't see this as me flaming you or hope this didn't offend you in any way, just a suggestion.

I had thought about that, but it's not so much that I don't like the ROMs available, it just seemed like development abruptly slowed down, and I was curious why.

Oh, I'm not debating how hard the devs work...they do great work and once my money situation settles I plan on donating to several of them.
I was just wondering if they had hit some kind of a development roadblock, like I saw when I had an Epic and Samsung refused to release the kernel source.
Sorry if I was mis-understood...this thread was never meant to be a shot at any of the devs.

Hang around IRC. Good stuff going on in there. Still some beta stage stuff (which works quite well), but before you know it, they'll be here.
I like a lot of what has been done. When we get to the point of a fully working 2.3 I'll do cartwheels...and I can't do cartwheels...
Either way, you get the point.
I was just about to pose this question as well. I have the Evo and my brother has the Evo shift and I was curious about the rom development support. I hope someone is able to do a One Click Root as well since i'm really not comfortable not using it.
Would love to see Myn's roms on here, cm7 and miui on here. We both would definitely donate.
I also wondered what happened. It was like we got S-OFF and the kernel source and people tinkered with the phone for 2 weeks and just stopped.

I think the OP is questioning exactly what everyone's been up to. Care to shed some light on where he's heading (Sense 2.0, CM7, etc)
Was wondering the same thing. Keep checking here everyday and nothing.

HA HA your probably about the last person on XDA to receive it. You could have had it last Friday you would have made your phone check for it. You probably don't know how to do that though. Anyway enjoy the update better late then never I guess.

Enjoy being stuck with a Stock phone, too....
NOT! This homey don't play dat! Patience is a virtue... and ignorance isn't In my vocabulary.
Rule #1. Never accept ota if you want to keep or gain root on your phone.

To me, it's like going to the Doctor for a health problem, and getting great results from his prescribed treatment, then someone tells you about some new trendy cure, and without even asking your doc, you just jump on the bandwagon....
Why would people have not come here and checked with the experts for just taking the OTA, I will never figure out.
So is there a stock root for 2.3 yet? I am rooted on a stock kernal of Froyo right now and would like to go to 2.3 but only if I can keep root.
Did you get a popup or something notifying you (and allowing you the choice to install it or not)? I have a friend with a rooted phone, and I gave her the warning not to install it if she got warning.
If it installs automatically, I guess she's out of luck for wireless tethering for a while (and not going to be happy about it).

Don't you mean Stock ROM Froyo? It has been mentioned countless times. No Root method is available for the 2.3 OTA yet.

There is no way to root the OTA update once it's been installed. yet.
However, that doesn't mean that there aren't any rooted stock roms. I found 3 with just a couple minutes browsing the Android Development subforum.

For one I was in Rio last week so didn't really have time to manually look for the update cause i had no service there. I don't PMS like some here cause 2.3 didn't come fast enuff. I been rooting phones for a long time now and the stock EVO has been doing the trick for me sorry you guys think Im behind times but if this post dose not apply to you then why reply??
So does the new OTA cone with the GB battery icon in the top bar ? I flashed the rooted 4.xx OTA and couldn't find an option to enable it...

I think the point is you're posting on an enthusiast board about a stock update that has nothing to do with rooting. Why would anyone here care about that, most people have been running some form of GingerBread for months now. So to post about an OTA which every single customer gets, and then wondering why people are making fun is really just strange.
I accepted the OTA and still have full root.

Whats strange to me is how people get off on getting on other post to prove a point. I know about CM7 and all the other Roms they are all good but i didn't post in the rooted section this is just general EVO talk section bro you guy r a trip.
You seem to be making this out to be a bigger deal than it is. You made a somewhat (unintentionally) funny post, a few people had laughs and the discussion evolved from there. There's not much reason to get upset over it.

I'm seeing you as the trip
I didn't say you posted in the rooted section, because there is no such thing. I said you posted on a phone enthusiast board, as in xda-developers. All I'm saying is it's a bit strange for you to get worked up that people found your post funny, or had joking comments. I wasn't mocking, simply stating why people were mocking.
If I had actually been throwing out insults you would have known it.

EI22 rdf page

Didn't see this posted anywhere, except in the rumor thread.
So, EI22 gets its own thread. Now, time to pull out the flame hammers, and start bashing Samsprint!

why 2.3.6... the nexus s 4g has 2.3.7
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't 2.3.6 and 2.3.7 made to fix problems specific to the Nexus?

as was 2.3.5... but as zander pointed out to me the original glaxay s got a 2.3.5 update from samfirmware... but 2.3.5 was for the ns4g to fix the speaker and signal... so idk... the original nexus skipped 2.3.5 and got 2.3.6.. then the nexus s 4g skipped 2.3.6 and got 2.3.7.... and that included google wallet... so i can now pay for my gas with my phone... oh and google even gave every ns4g owner 10$ in google wallet... which was cool lol
At least they're still working on it huh?...that's good to know.
Latest leak for T-Mobile's Galaxy S 4G the other day was updated to 2.3.5 so kinda surprising they haven't also switched to that while working on our Epic 4G.
If we get 2.3.4, it wnt even matter, case we'll be able to get CM7 working, then it won't matter what version samsprint gave us
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G Touch+Keyboard
Yeah, I don't care if official is 2.3.4, as long as it comes out soon, and they release source with it. Then we'll have out fully working CM7, and awesome custom roms/kernels..
I'd rather them NOT continue working on it and just release it so devs here can fix all their f-ups. Samsprint sucks balls. After the delays Samsung has caused for both Froyo and GB, the only way I'm getting another Samsung phone is if a gun is held to my head.
I should have learned better after dealing with the Samsung Rant for 8 months.

So the millions (exaggerating) of uneducated people can blow up samsprint's phone lines and be like wtf this isn't an upgrade? Not everyone knows what root is... Samsung is just playing it safe. To the uneducated MASSES, they don't even know what gingerbread is.
[edit] that seemed kinda rude...but samsuck could care less. they could drop everything now and we couldn't do anything about it

+1
This happens everytime we go more than a week without a new rdf. Don't ya love how they assume that root users are the majority?? Lol
Nevermind the fact that Samsung/Sprint have many PAID developers that have JOBS to do this development, compared to the dwindling number of UNPAID hackers that we have here.
Some people just get too worked up.
I really can't promise I won't get a samsung phone. Right now, they're so far ahead of the competition. My next will probably be Nexus or Samsung, which ever has higher specs and is on Sprint.
