Hey everyone, my hd2 died (original 1.48 rom), I already tried soft reset, hard reset, put out my battery, charge it and everyhting that came to my mind but when i turn it on it wont go further than the first htc image.
Is there anything i cant do or should i just take it back to the shop?
Thanks
I would take it back, even if you do fix it. You don't want a phone that may still have a underlying problem.
Htc HD2 BRICK Need HELP!!!!!!!
I flashed Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.23554.5.5.0_1.72_Multi-Lang_6.5.5_Radio_2.07.51.22.2_V1.2_WWE into tmobile htc hd2 cause i was [email protected]$kin goin Rom happy and didnt double check its compatibility and my screen went blank black, cant power on, cant go into bootloader, and cant hard reset but when i plug it in to my computer it recognizes it as a device without a driver i saw it in the device manager on windows 7 ulitmate. CAN I SAVE MY HTC HD2??
I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
I used HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe i flashed like 5 roms within 24hrs i was trying them out and this one made killed my hd2.
for those stuck on the htc boot image
take off the back cover of the phone and press the little red button, this will restart the phone
AS SOON AS you press it, press and hold the volume down button this will bring you to the bootloader
connect the phone via usb to your computer and flash a different radio rom (look first which are compatible with your rom)
if this doesnt work, using the same method flash back to your original rom.

for tmous with 1gb rom NEVER flash a radio with .51. in the code.
still haven't seen anyone recover from this. if anyone has please let me know.
Damn it captain!!!!!!
I just got it on the 24th shhhhhhhh....... ummm i just will take it to TMOBILE i hope i can get an other one, they may not have one in stock or they WONT give me another. i will see as soon as the store opens.
Sorry to hear about people's problems. Just remember if you have TMobile
USA there is NOT a way to flash another rom onto the phone..Just give it time the wonderful folks here are working on it. If your still in your 14 day grace period just return the phone to the store and play dumb. You might
have to wait for another phone since apparently they did not anticipate
how many people wanted this phone and sold out quickly. I know I was there
at 6:30 and the second in line and they only had 5!
Anyway, the most important thing you can do here is DO a search!
I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
BUT I have flashed roms into Tmobiles htc hd2 like TOUCH_X_TREME_23549_TMOUS_2_30_5_49 among others and they worked! i was just try different ones and i PICKED and I BRICKED!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry? sure about that? seems to me lots of people have successfully flashed their tmous hd2.
It only goes wrong if you
1 - flash a rom based on anything less than 2.10 rom
or
2 - flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number.

I do not see a little red button under the back cover. I am in the US, just bought phone, slightly used of course, no warranty. It suddenly went dead this afternoon while charging, will sometimes try to power up but will just keep flashing that one screen "stick together" over and over.....
Tried another battery, same thing.

Mine is doing the same thing . . . in the US, the reset button is right next to the SD card slot, and it's yellow. Mine wouldn't come on Friday, and I started a web chat with Tmobile to see if they would exchange it, and then it just came back on. They said as long as the white sticker at the top of the battery compartment is still white (proving you didn't get it wet), then they will exchange it. It worked fine for me the rest of the weekend (AFTER I did a hard reset, and got it running great!!). This morning, I locked it while running MobiTV, then I couldn't unlock it, so I pulled the battery. That was 2 hours ago, and it still won't come on . . .
If it doesn't come on before I leave work, I'm taking it to Tmobile tonight!!
UPDATED 20 minutes later: Just came on . . . no rhyme or reason why?? Just started after MULTIPLE times of taking out and putting back battery, SIM, and SD card. Got the same error that I've been getting the last couple months on reboots (services.exe)?? When I did a CleanRAM, it free'd up 3.36MB . . . so SOMETHING was hung up, but nothing was running in the task manager??
Generally, few task managers show what's really going on with the phone's memory. Use an advanced task manager which will allow you to control the actual processes running on your device, Google for the names of those which seem to cause mischief and terminate them (if possible) or try to find a solution.

Hey I am also Tmobile User and I have flashed a few ROMS luckily I have not Bricked my phone (knock on wood.) I was just wondering how your return went? I have insurance on mine and figured I would just take it back if that happened. I just didn't know if that would work? Did you ever get a new one
Another update . . . used my phone all afternoon, and tried to charge it, and it wouldn't charge??? Luckily, my husband has the same phone, so I checked his with the same charger. Compared the two phones, and the prongs that hit the battery were bent back. I folded them back down, and now it can charge again. Makes me wonder if that is the problem with the phone not coming back on? Maybe putting the battery back in so that it wasn't hitting the prongs has been keeping it from turning back on . . .
okay so i flashed my unbranded HD2 phone many times over with chuckydroid rom and used shubCrafts build on my phone.
now my friend wanted android on his Tmobile HD2 phone also so i flashed his with chuckydroid rom and then with mattC's android with sense. turns out he de didnt like it and wanted to switch back to the stock rom.
now i acidentally flashed an unbranded HD2 stock rom back onto his Tmobile HD2 instead of the stock Tmobile rom and now its bricked. (wasnt thinking because ive done it this way with my phone all the time not even thinking that his was a different model)
light doesnt turn on when charged. cant even get into bootloader. phone doesnt work. i DID FLASH HSPL3 before it got bricked so iono if that helps any if any at all...
i feel really bad right now. can someone please help?
im sorry to say i think the phone is bricked for good...that's if the international ROM you flashed included a radio....it most probably was a .51 radio that is not compatible with t-mobile us hd2....

I don't have a suggestion to unbrick the phone, but I do for a reasonable price on a replacement. I bought my T-Mo branded HD2 a few months ago for $225 off Craigslist. I just checked locally (Portland) and there's three listed today at or under $250.....and sorry for your friends loss.

i cant flash another rom because his device wont even turn on. its dead as a rock. can i return this for warranty? i flashed HSPL3 before flashing it back to the original (but wrong) rom.
is the HSPL3 still in the device meaning i cant return it? or like first poster said, the new radio is now on the device? meaning im still able to return it?
Well if it won't turn on then they won't be able to see its unlocked.. as for a solution did u try manual bootload (volume up + down and press power and keep holding volume up and down) that should get u into bootload if it doesn't then its a different issue.

You could try to flash the official tmou rom via SDCard. Just use a card reader, place the rom at the root of the card, put the card back in phone, hold volume key down + power and you *might* be able to get back to bootloader.
The issue here is that if you flashed official (non tmou) rom from the sdcard when you bricked it, it might have removed the HSPL. From what I can recall, official roms flashed from sdcard will wipe hspl.
It's worth giving it a shot. In any case, I just received an EDM from microsoft through my hotmail acct where they are doing a buy 1 get 1 free for the HD2. Might want to check it out. I'm tempted to take them up on it and have 3 HD2's.

INSURANCE
If he has insurance on the phone just call tmobile say that the hd2 wont turn on anymore! You have no clue how it happened ! They will send a replacement! Then he has to send his phone back within a week of receiving the new one! It does have a one year warrenty but if u have to send the phone in to htc they will probably know u bricked it and void the warranty! Tmobile is really cool about warranty's so try to get one from them even if its refurbished and then leave it stock!!
The ROM probably had a .51 radio like the last post said.
When you flash a .51 on a TMOUS HD2 you lose. Game over.
well my phone was stuck ina bootloop kinda thing... if i conected it to a charger it wud turn on and keep restarting on me, if i removed batery while still plugged in it wudnt respond nor charge... i fixed it by leaving it like that for a few minites then i un pluged and held down volume roker as i pluged in to acces bootloader and flashed a diff rom
hmm this sucks try what the others said with the volume keys and report back. This makes me think it would be cool if the developers created a pandora battery like service battery and memory stick for the hd2 as how people brought back bricked psps to life with those methods, would be so awesome then we wouldn't have to really worry about stupid crap like this !
yes. im dumb. it was a .51 radio. doesnt turn on. i did it to my own phone so many times and it just became repetitive when i was flashing his phone that i didnt even stop to think that it was a TMobile model. and yes the power button + volume button is not working since MY PHONE (originally his phone since i have to give him my phone now) doesnt have power.
so my best bet right now is to return it to tmobile and not HTC correct?
The only way to unbrick your phone is whit a jtag interface , ( http://www.omnia-repair.com/forum/topic/htc-hd2-repair-guide , http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f47...z-jtag-pinouts-htc-topaz-repair-file-1047977/ ) but maybe this kind of tools are illegal in some countries.
Check Copper battery contacts
Hey mate, I had the same issue you did. I took the battery out often during my flashing and once it stopped responding ie. not charging not turning on etc.
I checked where the battery sat and found one of the copper contacts (I think there are 3 spring-like ones) was stuck inwards and therefor not offering or receiving power.
Give that a shot buddy. good luck
Sucks, but at least you swapped phones with him. If the phones under warranty give T-Mobile a call, tell them it wont turn on...but you might want to have your buddy handle it (he is the original owner I hope?) since the phone should be on his account.

Quick side note, I don't necessarily agree that you owe this guy a phone. If you flashed it as a favor, then I think that all risks associated with the flash were his just as if he flashed it himself. There is an implied risk even when flashing the correct ROM/Radio etc, and if he didn't want to take the time to learn how to do it himself, you shouldn't be held 100% liable. If he is a good friend, then it would be a nice gesture to go in with him on a craigslist replacement (I too got mine for $225).
Now if he paid you for the service, then yeah, you owe him a phone.

I completely agree, unless he's a n00b and you didn't explain that there were any potential dangers.
Just as another side note, if I'm doing anything for a friend that involves firmware flashing of any kind whatsoever, just say.
"Look I'm happy to do this, however there is always a risk involved in that your phone might die! It's rare, but are you happy for me to proceed?"
Always gets me out of potentially tricky situations! Stick those caveats in before it's too late
In my opinion you owe him a phone unless you told him about the risk and asked if he was willing to try it.. I would still feel sick to my stomach over him buying a new phone himself.. Another point is that the "risk" didn't damage the phone, your obliviousness did..
It sucks, but I would try to get him a used phone and pay the cost.. and accepted it if he offered to pay parts of it
When I picked it up it would only boot to a screen with a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and it says Software Update Failed! Please try again. He said he was trying to load Android but didn't know what he was doing and every time he pulls the battery that's as far as it gets. I figured for $20 maybe I can get it into bootloader and do something with it. I got it home and did a battery pull, put it back in and held the power button and volume down and nothing. Now it won't even turn on at all. When I picked it up he did a battery pull and turned it on to the Software Failed screen but now nothing. I've left the battery out for an hour, had it plugged in to 2 different wall chargers and every USB port on my computer and nothing. I even stripped a USB cable and held the wires to the + - terminals on the battery for 15 minutes and nothing. I'm hoping the battery is just shot or not taking any charge and a new one might at least get me to the bootloader.
I suggest you make a Gold Card to flash it with. This is like the one almost assured flash of Windows Mobile to your HD2. a Gold Card will force a flash sometimes. If you do not know what a Gold Card is just Google Gold Card for HTC HD2.
If you can flash Windows Mobile back to the HD2 you can then try Android again on it if you want.

Because at the moment it's a $20 paperweight. Black screen, no charging light, won't even go to the software failed screen. I don't know anyone else with another HD2 I can use to check the battery or to use to charge it if it is dead. If worse comes to worse I'll send it off to HTC.

I read the tutorial a couple times and I'm guessing the phone would have to have power to do this. This puppy is dead at the moment. For all I know it was Raptured during the night.
check the battery pins carefully for bent pins, and also, just to check, when you did the bare usb cable charging, you put neg to neg, live to live, right?(black to - red to +, , + being the outer one)
Id probably try a phone shop, see if they'l let you put a battery in for a few seconds, just to confirm if its the battery that has died, and if theyre really nice maybe theyl let you try your battery in their hd2.
If it IS the battery and you get it working, its dead simple, no goldcard or anything like that needed,, , the exclamation screen you got is from flashing an incorrect (wrong carrier/region) stock rom via sd card whilst hspl was installed, (its been removed now, by the start of teh sd card flash, thats why it gave rom update fail) and simply entering bootloader and reflashing using a rom correct for your serial will fix that.
(or indeed entering bootloader, applying hspl then flashing your chosen cooked rom and radio, , , or radio and magldr, whatever you want to do. Its a scary screen the exclamation one, but its one of the easiest to get past)
Yeah a phone shop is probably a good idea. There's a T-Mobile pretty close. I had an HD2 I sold last year that I had put some different ROMs on and Android so I figured if this one was stuck at the software failed screen it would be a pretty easy fix. I used it in the Yucatan for the GSM signal plus it doubles as a pretty good camera and bought this one because I'm going back. But reading the threads about it just being dead and not booting to anything makes me think it might be trashed. If it is I'm only out $20. If it's to pricey for HTC to fix it there are a couple on craigslist cheap with broken LCD's. Might try piecing 2 together.

That's what I was thinking. But I didn't do it, all I did was pull the battery. If it is it's only $20
Its not the famous tmous radio brick, unless you didnt mention something you did in your first post.
the only way it gets that kind of brick is flashing a radio from a regular HD2, the fact that the flash failed (exclamation screen) and you say you didnt try to flash anything else would point to a different problem. If the radio HAD flashed, the phone wouldnt have booted even to the excl screen.
You see, when you flash a stock rom via sd card, if hspl is installed it will allow the flash to start, but step 1 is first changing the spl(removing hspl) then the phone restarts into the new spl, and flashing continues. But because hspl is no longer there, cid checks fail and the flashing stops, so no radio gets flashed, so no radio brick.
radio bricks happen when you flash a non tmous stock rom via Goldcard or via usb whilst hspl is installed, because over USB, hspl is NOT removed at step 1 so the flashing is allowed to continue, the radio gets flashed, the phone dies.

exactly, which is why im suspecting battery/battery pins/power issue, because it DID come on for you, meaning it isnt a radio brick, and the pins are very easily bent when the battery is pulled, one slight twist to the angle of rotation and the casing on the battery around the flat connectors catches the pins on the way up and out.
If he was installing android, he most likely installed magldr, which prevents teh battery from charging when the phone is off, hence me wanting to double check you were doing the USB bare wire charger correctly, because a totally dead battery won't charge in the phone, if magldr is there. And so, back to testing if its teh battery, thats what you need to confirm before you can move on,,,,, is the battery alive but flat? ten seconds with a known good battery, or a HD2 running winmo (can charge when off with winmo installed) will answer it for you.
Yes I made sure it was hooked up correctly. I held the wires on the terminals for what I thought would be long enough. Maybe the battery is junk? Thanks for the pointers though. I do appreciate the help.
In my first post last night I took it you were having a issue with getting a ROM to flash. I see now your issue is not this so I do apologize.
Samsamuel has givin you some great advice. Have you tried connecting your wall charger to the HD2 and then power it on? This is how I would get my HD2 to boot back up so I could charge if I accidentally let the battery drain all the way down and I was using MAGLDR. (Not a problem anymore thanks to cLK)
Now seeing as you do not have a ROM to boot into this will not charge your battery but just maybe prove the HD2 is not dead. I agree with Samamuel about it not being bricked, I think you just have battery/power issues right now, namely the lack of power.
Go to this thread that just sprung up last Tuesday in the HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A and General forum. Read the first post as it gives a method of charging your battery when dead using MAGLDR. I have not personally tested this cause I no longer use MAGLDR. I can not promise you it works but it is worth a shot. Let us know if this worked for you and post in the thread I linked as well if it works. That thread needs a confirmation post.
I tried 2 different wall chargers and just tried to tip in the thread you suggested. Nothing. Even tried a PowerMat for 3 hours.

Hey guys I'm about to buy an HD2 on ebay and it reads this description :
when you start up the phone, it stops at the first screen and freezes... or sometimes stays on black screen.
so it could be a simple fix for repairs, or use for parts.
im winning the bid so now my question is. Is this a hardware problem or like i can restore it with a new rom and see if it works.
It could be either. If you do get it, my suggestion would be to install cLk or MaGLDR to bypass the bootloader - that would be the most likely thing that would be broken if it freezes. If they do work, then your phone should be fine.
Schweet man! Congrats I bet you picked it up at a decent price too.
First get the hd2 toolkit ( this this is invaluable when it comes to getting this baby where she needs to be!)
I would task 29 and start her out from scratch! Good luck !!!
Here's the link to the HD2 toolkit.
I bought a HD2 off ebay in 09 for $80 that was in mint condition with the same issues listed. Now i've learned a lot since then but at the time i could not get it working no matter what i did. I called HTC who repairded it for free since it was still under warranty. With that said you may run into some problems fixing this but I feel if you get the phone around $150 and under and you dont get it working you should still be able to resell it and get most if not all of your money back. There has always been a demand for this model phone so i would go ahead and buy it.

It could be either. If you do get it, my suggestion would be to install cLk or MaGLDR to bypass the bootloader - that would be the most likely thing that would be broken if it freezes. If they do work, then your phone should be fine.

that depends a lot on whats wrong, those do not bypass the bootloader as such, they extend it, if the SPL is buggered then its buggered unless you can replace it.
your issue could be a number of things, it might just need a reflash, if at all possible get it in to the original bootloader, and SD card flash an original stock ROM for that device, that will overwrite everything.
Course if you cant get the bootloader working then unless you know someone that can connect it up and reflash it your looking at sending it away
another problem could be the RAM, or NAND, several times folk have run in to problems with these getting buggered up, if so your screwed.
On a side note I would ask about screen bleeding, on second hard devices you can sometimes get a lot of leakage through the screen from the back light making lighter blobs on the screen, this is very noticeable on light or white background, dark backgrounds doesn't really show to bad but its worth asking for... good luck!
Hey thanks guys for the reply. I picked it up for 65$ it's coming today free shipping and everything. I had a HD2 before but sold it for a iPhone 4 (Horrible Decision) So I picked up another one. The thing is with this HD2 it has no Rom, Radio information in the bottom left at boot up. I'm assuming it's Task29'd right.
Once you got it, we'll be happy to help

Alright guys. Today I received my HD2 in the mail and I had one once before in the past. I bought this on Ebay claimed it was broken because it was stuck on the stick together screen I got it for 65$ and now I turned it on it was stuck there. I went to the bootloader it was SPL 2.08 and now I removed the battery but I can't get any response to turn on anymore. When I plug in a charger theres no orange led. I checked the back on the phone it looked like it was opened up before because the void label is all smashed but visible. Is it bricked? The seller said it would sometimes go stick together or stay black. I'm trying my best to turn it back on atleast to bootloader because I have no ****ing working USB to PC cable. and keep it like that till I get one. Any help?
Okay i just got it to turn on but I didn't get the chance to enter the bootloader just Stick Together. I have no clue if it's just random or the battery is going poop. I will try to get it to respond at least so I can enter the bootloader and find a working usb cable. It doesn't even say "Serial" when i enter it.
IT TOOK ME FREAKING FOREVER. But. I got it working on the bootloader with "Serial" SPL 2.10. I'm hopping this thing can stay on long enough to go get a working usb charger.

do you have anyPC- USB cables or USB mains charger.
it sounds like your first problem is the battery is dead, get it in bootloader and leave it plugged in, it takes ages but it will charge up assuming your charger is give it more than 200mA, failing that, get an external charger, to be honest with the current state of the HD2 and WP7 battery usage its worth while getting a charger an second battery any way!

first, the not turning on when it was on a moment before - check the battery pins, they bend easily, and can sometimes crack.
there are a number of faults that can cause hanging on splashscreen, and also that can cause inability to enter bootloader, some hardware, some software.
Im assuming its a tmous, in which case hunt down the link to the tmous rom on the htc website (start at t-mobile.com, i think its still linked there)
get the latest rom and then all you can do is try to get into bootloader and try flashing.
If you get it to start turning on but cant get into bootloader with voldown, ive seen threads where disconnecting the bottom hard buttons has helped, and also threads where a faulty vol-down was to blame and shorting the pins manually was the solution.
But there's no orange led light when I plug in a charger. I've looked at topics and it has 2.10 SPL and no rom or radio it's been task29'd

Nvm, I got the it to charge a little. It's been booting up everytime i turn it on now. I'm just wanting for my usb cable to work because right now it's not working on any phone i have with me other than the HD2 so it's the cable. It works fine charging but when i try to use my usb cable on my pc with ANY phone it doesn't seem to work. Gotta find one.

it does have a radio, you cant not have one. task 29 doesn't remove it. the radio it has will already be fine for running android, its not something you need worry about until you have a working phone.
Okay. For some weird reason it vibrates 7 times indicating a hardware failure. So that's it. I wasted 65$ that's awesome. Before i can even try to flash a new rom or anything. Ugh.
I got it to work on a freezer and it works till it gets slightly warm or hot.

As stevedebi stated you will need a new motherboard. Unfortunately its not cheep even if you know what your doing and was able to do the labor yourself. I will say that all is not lost though because you could re-sell it on ebay and get your money back. Even in its current state it should sell for around $80-$120. Personally i would list it at $100 obo. You got it so cheep that eventhough you are unable to fix it for a low price you should still be able to get all of your money back.
