Depends where I call.
I am calling my friend in Ukraine and it is 15 cents a minute to the mobile device.
Here is the rate chart from google voice
https://www.google.com/voice/rates
Hasn't worked for me on stock ji6. Installed 2 or 3 but never worked. Do you have to do something special to use google voice for international calls?

When you set it up, first run, it will ask you if you want to make all your calls via google voice, only international calls or ask every time.
I have it set to international calls only.
P.S. Also have you setup you google voice account? I am not sure if it matters when you link your phone with it, but for a good measure go to google.com/voice login with your google creds, pick the country, number and verify your acct.

Yes it works only on 2.2 roms. There is a hacked version that allows calls over 3G on droid forum. Just google. I'm not sure of posting links to modified apk files is allowed here.

i have google voice too, but i don't necessarily need to make int'l call all the time, i would love to have the chat function alone working on my phone, so i can be available for my oversea vendors most of the time
i just can't get it to work, it pretty much just froze @ the login process; i installed and uninstalled 2 or 3 times already, same result

I apologize if there is a previous post regarding this question, I have search all over for an answer with no avail...
I was wondering if there is a way to trick the App Market into thinking that the Evo is the Incredible in order to download Verizon apps, such as Skype and the Inception: Mind Crime game?
I was also curious, if this is not possible, does anyone know where I might find the .apk files for those two apps?
Feel free to PM me with any information. Thanks all.
Cheers,
Terry

There is a skype lite version apk floating around that you can install on your phone that will work on Sprint.

Re Skype
If Skype is your main concern, I found this story at Engaget:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/28/skype-mobile-with-video-support-coming-to-android-market-later-t/
Seems Skype intends to bring a "direct to consumer app to the Android marketplace later this year. This application will be available for all consumers globally to download regardless of carriers. (i.e. similar to how we offer the iPhone app today)"
The current Skype app does not work for the Evo. I have the Verizon Skype app, and after you install it, it will tell you that it can't run because you don't have a Verizon phone.
Just wait for the new version to come out for everyone, or get Fring and SIPdroid or something. There are many ways to make it work, but nothing as simple as straight Skype.
has anyone who tried this hack.
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073
try to dl skype for verizon? this hack is to use verizon towers and one of the effects is that when u dial *2 it goes to verizon customer service.
just wondering with this will it make skype work on the evo?

If you download the Android app - My Market - this app is like Market but lets you select your country / provider. Select US Verizon and you can download and install the Skype App, but you can't get it to launch. Choose US T Mobile for other apps.
Hello everyone, I downloaded the skype app from the android market a couple days ago, and I been trying to sign in over 3g or my home wifi but I get this error.
Can't sign in
We're sorry, but we couldn't sign you in. Please try again later.
and I know this is not a login/password issue because I sign in on my desktop just fine, may be something I have to tweak on the vibrant?
any help will be apreciated
thank you guys

Yes. It helps to read the description of what you are downloading. It could have said "this bricks galaxy s devices." What then?

[No Sarcasm]
So my sister just bought one of these phones. I was naturally excited because I am a huge Android honk. Had my Droid and current Fascinate for a combined 15 months now... Rooted both of them every which way, etc.
My sister on the other hand, not so much. Probably should have sticken with an iPhone. However, I would never actively promote that now that she already has an Android phone.
1st Question I told her I'd look into.... Can you use Skype Video w/o using Wifi? what are your 3G/4G Video Calling options then if Skype will not work?

Tango, ooVoo (AOSP ROMS ONLY), Fring i don't know about skype. I refuse to use it.
FWIW, the MyTouch 4g comes with Qik for video chat pre-installed. Qik was recently bought by Skype. Look for Skype to roll Qik into their app in the near future.

You can't even use Skype voice over 3G (i.e. without WiFi) in the USA, let alone Skype Video when it becomes available. They must have rolled over for the US carriers
Hello!
I've upgraded new version of the Skype and really don't understand, video working on it or not. I have EH17 Rom, stock.
On new version of the Skype I can't see icons for the video. Is it only my or New version of Skype doesn't have a video?
Please, can somebody answer it?
Or, may be somebody will give me a link on skype which works on Epic 4G?
Thank you!
There are hacked apks to force video to work on unsupported devices.
As far as I know both of these work.
Froyo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16618967&postcount=452

Have you looked in the the Development section or the original development section to see if any of the ROMs in there fit your needs? There are also a couple of index threads in the General section that list the ROMs in certain classifications to make it easy for you.

It's my understanding that AT&T blocks native video calling, at least that's what I was told when I asked about this same issue.
Basically just use Skype or another video chat app.

There is a Mod out there to enable video chat on Stock ROMs (for Google Hangouts or chats or whatever it is called now), a search would probably turn it up. AT&T is supposed to enable it on all Android phones by the end of the year...if they keep their promise.

I think OP was asking about native video calling. As in open the dialer, dial the number and hit video call. The phone can do it, AT&T still has it blocked. Again, I'm repeating what I was told about this same topic.

Blocked yet daily I see a damn commercial for the s4 with a brother and sister using it as the younger brother enters high school for 1st time . advertising it but blocking it? Wtf is that? Every time the commercial shows I have to hear my damn wife bugging me why our S4s won't do it. This is why I'm asking. Lol
Apple probably patented it and is suing the piss out of everyone who wants to use it.
