[Q] Swype on Evo?

I have searched forms and know the .apk isnt allowed to be posted.
but i also have a rooted epic 4g and able to move apks such as swype.
is there a way i can move the swype to my computer then evo or will this not work?
liking the evo, the keyboard not so much.
any help would be awesome!
also i dont have to root the evo to get the swype right?
its a family member's who refuses to root =/

I can't say if the apk from the epic will work or not, but I do know there is evo specific apk out on the web that does work. I do not believe you have to be rooted.

the epic swype will not work for the evo i tried its a fail

Just sign up for the beta at the swype site. Its free and you don’t have to worry about where to find a version that works on the evo

Just google it and you can find the apk online somewhere.

There is an app in the market called slide it keyboard. The trial is free bit the pro version is like 8 bucks.

search swype 2.10.52
Also I used apk from droid incredible for awhile and it worked fine. I now use version 2.6.47 (No voice and not sure what device it came from) and it works flawlessly. I am not rooted, no need to for swype install.

I have the voice version... its 2.10.52.13753.t100
it works great on my EVO - works good un rooted and rooted... i had to do some searching for it, but I finally found it and I saved the apk in my dropbox, any one want it - just hit me up and I will send it to your email for you...

Because it does not have a link to the app. Right now it is all talk but if someone posts the app it'll be gone.

Haha, these codes are for the phones market signature - similar to the app MarketEnabler.
It allows you to spoof a network location and have access to apps you wouldn't normally have access too.
For example, if you set your code to Verizon (I always used 310012) you have a "Verizon" tab instead of 'Sprint'
You will also be able to download their NFL app, etc.

Tried this yesterday, It does work but the verizon nfl app still knows your not a verizon customer.Not sure what the benefit is when you still cant use the apps.

Hmm, the verizon nfl app should work if you still have it set as a verizon code. I know last time I had it on my phone it worked until I changed the code back to sprints. After that point, even if I switched it to Verizon it wouldn't let me use it.
Maybe they have a newer update for it that checks the actual phone number or something.

I Believe The "ONLY" Way The NFL App Will Work Is If You Turn WiFi On, & The Mobile Connection "OFF"
For Some Reason I Think The NFL App Can Tell Who Your Carrier Is With Your Mobile Connection Enabled!! Also Try To Clear Your Cache Before Trying To Enter NFL Mobile Again!!

anyone else catch this little golden nugget in reference to hands on with the LG Revolution and see it on the video. they did not say if its a streaming app or the one from the market that only lets you manage your queue but i doubt they would release a phone with an unofficial 3rd party app pre-installed on it.

The netflix app isn't out yet. I think its going to come pre installed on that phone, and the app should be in. the market by the time the phone comes out. And that app in the market now isn't made by netflix.

Exactly. It's not the official app.
BTW the Thunderbolt RUU leaked and maybe a dev can look in the ROM file and pull the apk if it exists in that phone.

Most likely it won't be as good. The iPhone apps tend to be better than the Android version.

Even if the apk is in the ruu for a different phone, will it even work on the Evo?

It should. They may need to tweak it like they did the NFL verizon app.

It probably has a bunch of deep DRM stuff in the ROM. I don't think it will be as simple as inserting DB file into a system folder.

Really?? Have you tried the Android market? There is a tab that says "Top Free".

Unlike Windows Mobile, most of Android apps or not "HD2 only" ! You should better search on general Android forum, but like said before there's plenty of nice things on the Android Market

If anyone gives this guy a method of obtaining paid apps without paying for them, you are volunteering yourself for a 3 day vacation.

I'm using the Motorala Razr from Verizon. I downloaded the apk yesterday and it force closed on me. I am not rooted and I'm still running a stock rom. Is this apk Sense specific or HTC specific?

You seem like the person to ask with as much knowledge as you know about phones and all the work you've created; good grief. I am stuck with Sprint and cant leave until next year without paying ETF; long story short; get terrible service and have airave (only works half the time and have 3 replacements-sprint does not want to address to issue; and me being on a SERO account probably doesn't help either) but someone in a different thread mentioned about a sprint diagnostic tool that you can use to force your phone to Roam verizon towers and get the boot rather quickly from sprint; unfortunately he said it was only for samsung devices; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774503

I didn't know if there was such a tool that could work for the evo shift that you knew of since you work with other devs and know A LOT about A LOT of stuff. I searched google a bit then headed over here of the forums, but couldnt find much in regards to it for my phone. thanks in advance

I thought the PRL would need to be changed to something different; I will give Roam Control a go and keep in Roaming...thanks

No you don't need to change your prl. Also, Several Shift ROMs like newSENSE Supreme Sense and StockMod have roam only as an option built in so you don't have to buy roam control if you don't want too.
