I just purchased a HTC Tytn (unbranded). I have so many questions and can't seem to find the answers. First, does anyone know a program that will update the clock with the network without doing the At&t rom update. Second, Will it hurt to do the at&t update to my phone or will I loose the voicedial function and 2nd video cam ect. Is the ms voicedial ver 1.6 worth it. So many more I'll make another thread later. By the way thanks for the forum. You all are great and I hope to learn alot.
I am on cing/att and using an unbranded tytn... i have also flashed the official att rom on it (yes, its wm5, but i needed PTT)... anyway, smartdial is there, but you will lose video calling (which att dont support anyway) but the fron cam will still function, i used atek software's cool camera to prove the drivers were still on the phone and working.. and i dont use MS VC 1.6 so i cant answer that one...
Tytn vs 8525
Shogun, Thanks for the info. I don't need the PTT. I do like the auto update feature for the clock using the network though. So far I like the phone, (I'm just starting to get used to it. Can you remap the PTT. I will start doing a lot of international flying soon and needed the unbranded phone. Does the At&t service determine the video or can 2 people with a tytn and a 3g signal just start video calling? So many questions!

Not sure about the auto-update feature and working on other roms... but they should support it..
The PTT can be remapped, use a different rom, or search for sleuth's PTT fix.
The video calling is dependant on the dialer on the phone (in the rom, or installable otherwise), it requires a certain dpadmenu.dll in order to work, but if your ATT its not going to work anyway.. it is provider dependant.. and 3G dependant
I've been surfing XDA for a while now on the hermes boards.
I'm a Rogers wireless user for Tytn (got it about 2 months ago with the $30/6gb option) and I just wanted to see how other rogers users are using their phones. I notice most people on the threads here are not rogers users. so if there's any of you out there, please reply.
I'm running TNT 2.0 rom by it's right at the moment. the newest one with wm6. I've used his old beta previously.
and I'm currently using Radio 1.51.00.10
I got this phone recently and after using it for quite some time. I've come to think it may have been better if I got an iPhone 3G instead due to the tytn's slow speed (multitasking+internet). the TNT 2.0 rom is quite fast though in terms of responsiveness. my main issue is internet speed.
I'm a graphic artist and my main reason for getting the phone was so i could sketch on it away from home with vspainter (virtual spaghetti) since iphone had no drawing program. plus the ability to have office on the phone is nice for work. only issue here is taht I have to be using the drawing program alone. if I have mp3s running on it, the drawing slows down to a unusable point.
I have a good friend that works at a fido store (i know I'm on rogers though), so I play around with the stuff there frequently. the iphone speedtests on 3G are blazing fast. and the samsung jack's speed on PIE are 1.5mbs, like telus desktop speed (http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/) which is astounding. my tytn on ROGERS 3G in the same area, can't even finish the test. anyone on rogers there know how to make it go faster? I've used settings I've read other people use, and even called rogers to get the settngs from customer service. it still won't pull faster than 400kbit/sec (www.dslreports.com). the samsung jack on fido was ripping 1000kbit/sec in the same place.
the jack can also play youtube on 3G PIE. I once got youtube to play on my phone when I was on wifi. but once Im on 3G I never got it to work. I was running TMPCE and coreplayer.
another issue is multitasking. I've found listening to music A2DP. playing on msn live. and surfing PIE would reduce my phone's battery life to about 6 hours. using Opera would stop my mp3 player. so far I found that opera mini is the best browser to use on the phone to surf sites and read things. anyone have some opinions to share with me? any msn client I can run on the phone all day long with no issues for battery or multitasking??
a good thing I've tried was using the phone with just 2G settings. so I turn off the HSDPA and 3G network and just use GSM gprs. the phone lasted over 19 hours in a day. that was great.
Im about to try out the spb mobile (www.spbsoftwarehouse.com) programs on a plain flash to if they can increase the usability and multitasking of the phone.
if any rogers users out there want to talk about their tytn experience on the phone is, please share!
I currently have a 8925 (ie HTC Tilt) I have an ATT Simcard and unlimited data plan I can easilly burn a battery a day working remotely via remote desktop and VPN clients so I am staring at the TINY 8925 screen A LOT!
I was considering getting a HTC Advantage X75XX to replace my tilt, I have never seen the HTC Advantage X75XX I don't know anyone that has seen one or even anyone that has used one I googled the athena 7500, 7501 and 7510 found a few reviews and a TON of them on ebay what I would like is a nice stright forward answer to a few questions.
1. I can unlock the 7500 and 7501 can I use it on my data plan with my ATT sim card (I am assuming yes to this question)
2. Any Major issues with this device I should know before I plop down money?
3. It has GPs and will work on Hspda? (from some of the videos on youtube I think this is correct I use tomtom 7 in my tilt running a custom mobile 6 rom.
4. It looks like to flash it is the standard jump a few hops hard spl deal as the tilt is this correct?
5. would selling/trading my tilt be an upgrade or a down grade?
1. Yes.
2. Some people have had issues with the GPS. If you will rarely use the GPS, don't worry about it. Make sure you install RealVGA to get the most out of the screen. Some people have had issues with the 8gb HD (on 7500 and 7501).
3. Yes, works on HSDPA.
4. Yes.
5. I'd keep your Tilt. When you want a phone, take the Tilt with you. When you need to browse the net or use VNC, take the Athena.

I would agree under normal use but I am not Normal (not by a long shot) I use less then 60 minutes of talk time in a month but get nearly 3000 txt messages and my data useage is well into the Gig range I get pages via SMS on my tilt I remote into them and fix the issues on that tiny little screen (and that ain't easy. even with the Athena being a Quisi-phone it would still work for me I think
I'm thinking of upgrading from my Diamond Touch to the new Blackstone.
Got a simple question. I like the way I've got my Touch setup. Can I just use my backup on the blackstone since it's running the same OS or do I have to start from scratch?
Thanks.
Mark
PS. Well, two questions.... does the 3G work in the US? I was reading a review that said that 3G for that phone doesn't work in the US. I don't understand, what is different than the 3G we use on the Touch Diamond.
I'm not sure bout about moving stuff over from the diamond, but I'd put my money on no. Although they both use WM and TF3D, the ROMs of the phones are different.
As for 3g, the short answer is also no. However (and there is a plethra of threads on the subject) people are now saying that there is a shot that one of the version of the HD (Telstra) that just came out support the necessary frequency (and that answers your other question as to why the diamond works on 3g but the HD doesn't; because the antenas pick up different frequencies) to possibly work on one of the At&T 3g bands.
However, to summarize, you'll prolly have to add the programs manually to the HD and you're stuck on Edge in the US
I end up getting a Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-l337 for free. It had a broken screen which I was able to fix for $7(was a pain to fix). I've been having a problem with the WiFi though. It works fine at first after a factory reset and I wipe everything, but after a bit it doesn't work anymore. If the WiFi is left on and I try to connect to a different network it will show as a green dim icon, but I can't turn it on. If the WiFi is turned on like if I turn off my phone then it won't turn back on as well. Is there any way I could fix this with a custom kernal or new modem firmware? Also is there any cool things I should get or install on my phone? I've been wanting to use it for Kodi and stream to it from my pc over wifi then use the screen mirroring. I've also been using it as a google cardboard which is really cool if anyone hasn't tried that before. You can play wii, psp and gamecube games on your computer and stream the video to your phone in 3D and play on it. Works pretty good.
Since you have an AT&T Galaxy S4, you really should be heading over to the AT&T Galaxy S4 Forums on XDA for information regarding your device, including custom ROMs, kernels, and firmware.
The most important piece of information I can give you about that device is this: depending on whether the phone has had its firmware upgraded or not, the bootloader may be locked (i.e. encrypted), which will make rooting and custom ROMs difficult. There are ways to work around the problem, but they are not located here, as this is the International S4 forum, and we don't have devices with locked bootloaders.
