DJ05 and GPS - Fascinate General

I know there's a leaked version of this update around. Is there a way to extract the GPS portion of the update and install it while not doing the full update? I read tgag the only change is something in the GPS lib that made the GPS dead on.

I second that. It's super accurate. It just takes forever to lock.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Mine takes anywhere from a couple minutes to like 10..... IF it locks on. The only thing that worries me about applying the full DJ05 is the concerns voiced in the same link above.

It's been fixed since a month ago. I don't know why people using fascinate think that the GPS is still broken. Go get FasterFix and you'll get a lock within a second.

Fasterfix isn't in the market. You'll have to Google it to find the link. I got from a thread on androidcentral I think. It does work great once it recognizes busybox.

I use FasterFix RC3 and it still takes me several minutes to get locks. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes and that's using GPS Status after using FasterFix. My original droid locked on in half a second, I understand why people complain so much about it. Also every fix doesn't work for every phone.

I shall search

It has not been fixed. A workaround was found that doesn't always work. Dj05 is the real deal.
I opened GPS test and within 5 seconds had 8 birds showing and 7 locked.

Ummm the average person loves Android due to Free nav. With a **** gps like on fascinate it = fail!! I didn't pay big money to find a fix like fasterfix! Btw it doesn't work. Nor did 2.2 on vibrant fix its GPS issue. So it won't on fascinate either!!
When I hear people say "what gps problem" I laugh.
That's the only thing that bugs me is GPS and lack of updates.

Well, some people may not want to root -- either don't know how, or feels it's "illegal," or don't want to run the security risk.
In practice, even with lag fix, the phone still freezes on occasion (usually when a call comes in, which means I can't answear it, or when trying to unlock. It's rare, but it shouldn't be happening.
We paid our $$$, now the ball's in Samsung's court.
Sounds to me that this update that the Captive got didn't improve the GPS much. Some even say its worse after the update. MAYBE, Just maybe. T-Mobile had to see where these updates went and Then fix it before we get it. Then when it works on the vibrant we can be happy?

LOL. You have a lot of faith in T-Mobile. More likely they are lazier and don't work on weekends or overtime....
I am starting to fear that it's possible the compass (and possibly the GPS) is a hardware issue.

GPS fix, and the cause of many issues

I seen a few threads on GPS fixes. I read them and still see some people having issues after applying fixes. I found out something interesting so it's my turn to post a fix for the GPS issue.
Here is what this will fix:
taking a long time to get a fix.
Not being able to keep a fix.
Not accurate data.
GPS consuming more battery then it should.
I can tell every one who is having trouble still right off the bat that they have their TB's overclocked.
I found out something interesting while trying to get from point a to point b a few days ago. All of a sudden I was having all sorts of issue that I never had before. After futzing around to try and find a solution I focused on the only thing different then usual.
I had my TB overclocked to 1.5GHZ when I normally don't go much higher then 1.2GHZ. mostly not to drain the battery.
My unit took several minutes to get a fix, and when it did, if I started moving again,(driving down the road) it completely lost the fix, or it was sporadic at best.
I lowered the clock speed to 1.2ghz. Killed all apps for a fresh start. Started navigate again, and I got a fix in less then 10 seconds. And it held a fix.
I put the clock speed back to 1.5ghz and I lost the fix again. Problems were occurring again.
I was able to get a good fix at 1.3ghz, but it took a tad longer, still under a minute to get a fix, but at 1.2 it works flawlessly.
Apparently the chipsets used for GPS don't like too high of a frequency above normal.
If anyone is having an issue with GPS, lower your cpu to 1.2ghz or lower. Kill all apps. then restart your GPS software.
Hope this helps any one having issues out!
Great theory, and may be true to an extent. I don't oc and today I could not get a lock to save my life. And I was in wide open lake country where a lock should have been instant.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yea I dont OC at all and Still even with a couple of patches Ive tried, it still dont work right.
My gps has never worked correctly since I got the phone. So interesting theory, but purely circumstantial and unscientific testing. The issue comes about from XTRA code being incomplete in the framework.jar. This is needed for fast locks. Secondly, the radio needs updating. Both are present in a yet unreleased TB ota.
Why you see wildly different results is that eventually, even a standalone gps locks. Fiddling with settings and so forth, you eventually get a lock. Once you have lock and keep it 'warm' with somewhat regular use, you get the illusion of your gps being fixed.

Try that workaround. It involves a hacked/modified Google Videos app that disables the root check. I don't know if it works personally because I only use Netflix mobile.
Edit: Before anyone asks, that hack just gives rooted users access to the movies they legitimately paid for. IT WILL NOT MAGICALLY ALLOW YOU TO WATCH MOVIES FOR FREE.

[Bounty] $50 for a wifi calling echo fix

Straight up. I am currently using ZenDroid 2.1.1, but have encountered this problem on several roms and so have others. The person on the other side gets a horrible echo. I just moved to a house where my reception is horrible, and I need this to work properly. My wife and I both have vibrants.
The bottom line - be the first to deliver to me a non echoing, functional t-mobile wifi calling app for froyo, and I Paypal you $50. I prefer to have it work on zen droid, but if there is no other way, I will change to another froyo rom to have this work properly. I just have to confirm it has fixed my problems before payment, and $50 is yours. No BS.
Anyone up to the challenge?

Everything he said makes sense, and I will have to try the volume thing to see how it works. I posted this before I saw what he said on the ZenDroid thread.
As far as the incentive, I think it is a good idea. NP, and, certainly not trying to push. I am not an EDT fanboy, but I have tried at least 8-10 2.3.4-2.3.5 ROMs, just about giving up, and saying Nexus Prime is prolly less than 2 months away. On a final whim I tried Asgard, and with this thread:

I am on my 3rd replacement Vib. and the first 2 sucked wind as far as GPS went, so I KNOW bad GPS. I saw another poster (and I should have bookmarked the quote) say something to the effect that anything that could possibly be a GB bug he has managed to experience on his Vib. +1... The problem is that no 2 phones are the same, so YMMV, but I am now, albeit reluctantly, a believer that GB can have awesome GPS. Just my 4 cents.
I use my gps on a daily basis as a must for my business and im on miui revamped and have been for a couple months..these guys have got the gps goin on,its fast, accurate and i haven't driven off a cliff or into the ocean yet.
So if your sticking with froyo for that reason....your missing out.
Good luck with your wifi calling endeavour

Thanks nick. Is a form of wifi calling working on miui? Did not think it was, guess its the only thing keeping me off it now. Things changed for me moving to the new place, but after a few hiccups, the studio should be at 100% in about two weeks. Its always something, right?
I would have tried your rom earlier, but I just lack the time to do the switching around nowadays. Had to go back to froyo and stay for awhile.
