Adventures in Bluetooth - Galaxy Tab General

Ok, I have the T-Mobile Tab, I have Skype and Google Voice working via 3G and Wifi but here is the issue...
I have tried 4 different wireless bluetooth headsets and they all react the same... They connect and pair with no issues BUT...
When you place a call the other callers voice is routed, as it should be, to the BT headset, however, my voice is not routed through the BT microphone and it uses the Tab's built in mic...
This is pretty unacceptable as you can imagine and pretty much defeats the purpose of a BT headset...
Any ideas, thoughts, or help on how to get the Tab to route voice via the BT headset as opposed to it's built in mic would be MUCH appreciated!!!!
Thanks in advance!

This was kind of discussed in another thread. Current thinking is that they modified the profile to not support a mic on the BT headset.
Until someone creates a patch, update or a custom rom, there probably won't be a solution.
This is the price we pay for getting the new toys right away. Once the dev's start rolling out the mods, I am sure it will be corrected.

Whilst this may be true for US Tabs, FWIW bluetooth headset profiles do not work with Skype on Euro Tabs either.
I've been trying it out this afternoon, and whilst my headset (well, wristset to be totally accurate) works fine for regular cellular calls, when I try to use Skype I only get audio out.
If I check the options for the connected device in the bluetooth settings, I have both Media and Phone profiles checked. If I uncheck Media, I no longer even get audio out with Skype (though regular phone calls still work ok on the headset), which shows that Skype is not using the Phone profile at all.
So, I suggest you look at the options for your bluetooth device to see if it even has the option for Phone. If it does, it seems that the headset profile is still there and it is actually Skype which is not using it.
Regards,
Dave

If you read some of the comments here, it seems that Skype for Android doesn't support bluetooth anyway.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the info man. I'll check it out on my Sprint GT.

Wonder if it's possible to put the Samsung Galaxy S BT on the Tab?

It is because the sound of these apps is being routed via the A2DP profile and not Headset provide is you are hearing the sound via the BT headset but the mic used is the Tab's

Since my headset didn't work with Skype at all with the Phone profile awhen I switched of the Media (A2DP) profile, I doubt a non-A2DP headset will help.
The problem is Skype doesn't use the phone profile.

Dave

I dont think its limited to skype either. I tried two other programs last night, neither one had working mic.
Sent from my SGH-T849 using XDA App

BT works just fine within Skype when using it on my MacBook Pro and my iMac.... The only issues I am having is on the Tab...

I wonder if it would be possible to flash or install the euro BT .apk?

Why? Still won't work because the problem is with Skype on Android - it does not use the phone BT profile.

Dave

No BT Headset Profile in any of the US Galaxy Tabs
The reason that none of can use their Bluetooth headsets with a program like Skype (or better yet, Line2, which I am a beta tester for) is that the Amrican carriers ripped out the ability to use BT Headset profile. Now some headset (such as te Jabra Stone) uses Audio profile, so it will work with the GalaxyTab, but we definitely need someone to break that an hack in a great fix so that we can get Line2, install it on the Tab, then us Bluetooth Headsets to do our communcating. This because the best (and cheapest) phone/data device in the world at that point. Is anyone working on that?

Also works with nokia bh-104 but no a2dp and kenwood DNX6160 no a2dp

Dont know if this helps but...
Im able to use my Motorola BT S9 head set as headphones and make Unlocked Skype 3g calls no problem. US Sprint version.

And these headphones have a mic built into them? And that mic worked for your Skype calls?

Upgrade Pocket Bluetooth Tools 1.0.1.2

The current version 1.60 of the ROM includes already a virtual serial port but unfortunately it is a dynamic port, which is not visible to many applications. Also the ActiveSync support is difficult and complicated to use and if you want to synchronize with different computers you have always to couple the device again.
For future releases I plan the following improvements:
Support for Bluetooth headsets
Support for Bluetooth network access points
Send contacts and files through Bluetooth
http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth/
i am looking also for handsfree bluetooth support if any help on that
Yeah, headset works fine, it's the handsfree profile we need, that's the one adding enhanced features....
Do you know why some headsets work better than others? I understand that the profile does not work and therefore you can not use the functions on the headsets, but I'm curious if your recent fix will help headsets such as the Jabra BT250 communicate better with the device. The HBH-65 has no issues, but Jabra does note, often very slow to connect. I like the Jabra because I can hear better-age you know.

Maybe because of the headsets itself ? I bought a HBH-35 and can do [/quote]anything with it, walk out of range and back, turn it off and on, reset the MDA, chanrge the headset etc etc. without having to re-pair...

What headset-functions do you mean ? Caller ID ? Voicedial etc. ?
That's not in the headsetprofile, that's in the handsfree profile. the headsets with enhanced functions use the handsfreeprofile also, nut just the headsetprofile...
downloaded and installed 1.0.1.2 fantastic my new bt gps works! However I can not use my gps and hbh-65 headset at the same time, any ideas please
Simply stated I was wondering if the new blutooth fix might help the Jabra BT250 work better. I know other headsets work without issue, but Jabra seems to have some problems, and I doubt that this is a Jabra problem, I believe it is a BT Device profile issue.
Can I have another link to the software cause the link is blocked from my ISP, or can any body upload it here or any other palce...
Best regards,,,
I have a new HBH-200, it works ok to answer a call but all the other features are not working, such as caller number etc.
Like i said; It's not i the headsetprofile. The headsetprofile doesn't do much except making a wireless headset possible. Answer, dosconnect and talk and listen, that's all...
Everyting else is in the handsfreeprofile (handsfree is used for advanced options for headsets and carkits)...
Link down????? :?:
not for me
Handfree Profile
I have 2 phones, XDA II and a Nokia 8910i.
My bluetooth Headset is the Ericsson HBH65.
To my surprise, I have paired the HBH65 with both phones and I am able to receive calls from both phones (not at the same time of course) without any problems. Whichever phone rings first get the use of the HBH65. In conflicts however, the Nokia seems to have priority over the XDAII, which is fine with me, but I am so happy that it actually works.
As others are mentioning, I am really missing the enhanced functions of the Handsfree Profile. Can anyone suggest any solution or perhaps work on resolving this issue as a lot of people are waiting for this. I was aware that Towas was planning to release a new version to his BT Stack Fix, has he got anywhere with that by any chance? or anyone else?

Skype and Bluetooth headsets

I have a Vario II with Skype installed.
I realise that Skype recommends that you use the supplied headset when using the product for calling (rather than the speakerphone) but I was wondering if I can use my Bluetooth headset instead of the wired headset?
Bluetooth works fine with ordinary phone calls so I sort of expected it to work with Skype (doesn't the phone just see a Bluetooth headset as a standard headset once a partnership has been established?) - but it doesn't appear to work.
Am I missing something or does Skype for Pocket PC not support Bluetooth? And, if not, why not?
Skype probably doesn't use BT Headset profile. They probably should. But look at how long it took MS to make Voice Command work with BT and on our phones it didn't even work. I bet A2DP stereo headsets would work since it is an audio sending profile and not related to calls but you wouldn't be able to use the MIC except for the one on the phone. This might be enough functionality someone could try if they haven't already. However, there is the utility that someone wrote for the Samsung SCH-i730 that redirect all audio to the BT headset. There is no reason it shouldn't work on any PPC that uses the Microsoft BT stack. So try it out and see if it works.

You need to create shortcuts to the toggle executable to make it easy to use.
There is a reg entry that will allow you to patch all sound to a BT headset.
HKLM\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand
LaunchAPEnable should be 0 instead of 1. Once done the headset hardware button will be remapped to connect to the device instead of launching voice command.
You will still be able to press the button to answer calls, it just won't initiate voice dial for new calls.
I would suggest one of those small freeware that allow to remap the hardware button (my button right softw key's been remapped to display a full program menu, that includes the voice command). I'm using a program called New Menu for Windows Mobile 5.
Hope this will help,
Sam

read my previous post.
To toggle Audio to A2DP you might want to see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1485391#post1485391
It's an easy way of switching audio to the headset and back to the device. This is for A2DP only.
hey guys,i was hoping for a different thing..is it possible to change the sound from the loudspeaker to the small speaker?? like using a real phone instead of using earphones..i dont have any earphones or bt headsets for the moment so i was hoping that someone can help me out here..its annoying if ur using skype while other people can hear the person you are talking to..
p/s:i've search everywhere including this forum, but still no solution..
No. Apparently it's a flaw in WM: it doesn't give apps access to the phone speaker.
that's a shame..hope microsoft will consider this for their future product

Bluetooth audio "piping" APP needed

I have looked and read and Googled the interweb for several days now, I am in search for an app similar to MS Voice Commander, which is for WM devices? I loved the app immensely on my tytan/touch pro etc and was trying to find anything remotely close to it for Android. Any help is appreciated. At bare bones minimum I would like to find some way somehow to pipe all audio through a mono Bluetooth, which this did on my WM devices.
I do not know if it is possible to do so on current Android builds, but I never assume anything to be impossible when it comes to this site.
same thing
I found a few solutions, but non of them worked for me. You should try to call ** (dial ** and than call). Maybe it'll work for you.
There's an app too, called Sound route switcher http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.omercade.headsetProjectII
It couldn't help either.
I hope somebody can help us.
Same problem
At WM6 there is a registry tweak to transfer a ringtone to the bluetooth headset. It's very usefull when you don't want to take a look at the screen everytime you want to know who is calling.
Is there any way to do it at Android?
Help us, please.
Ill give the app a shot, although im sure its a long shot at that. I find it amazing that the demand is not higher for this.

I'm trying to figure out the same trick on android. I want to hear my custom ringtones through my bluetooth headset. I have a milestone and a jawbone.
I am really surprised we haven't found a solution for this. I would be willing to pay a good chunk of cash to make this happen.

You and i both! I was finally able to get my Blueant Q1 to update to firmware 2.1 (not the android OS) so now i can do a2dp with it. However i would pay for the ability to hear ALL sounds through the headset of my choice. I know my Jawbone Icon is supposably slated for a2dp firware upgrade in the future, but neither one of these are my headset of choice - and its ever changing.
*update* Icon has been updated to a2dp firmware!! Im getting closer, now if i could getting piping on any headset.
Bounty on Bluetooth voice dialing
$100 to the first one who can enable decent Bluetooth initiated voice dialing and voice prompts on the Incredible. If you need an example just pick up and featurephone like my E815...works great.
ill pony up
Ill offer $50 for an app that will work for android 2.1+ that will pipe bluetooth audio to mono BT headsets. Much like the before mentioned winMO app. My testing BT headset will be the MOTO HX1

I have the Q1 too. I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago. How can I make it send audio to BT?? I have a spring hero.
Just something I have been working with -
Does anyone know the android bluetooth service name? can we pipe audio from "MediaPlaybackService | Bluez" ?? I just don't know what the bluetooth service is I guess.
no idea on the service name.....The q1 can be updated by d/l and installing the firmware on the blueant website.

did anyone find out anything about this? im having the same problem on my hero200 i have a mono bt headset and no music will play, no matter what app i use through the bt headset, i tried everything. if you have found out anything to this old post please pm me or something i would love to find out how to get audio through the bt mono headset on the hero 200
Here is the solution I use.
Super BT mono. It is in the app Market. It is $3. Money well spent in my opinion. It has a widget you can toggle that sends all played audio to BT Mono headset. I am using an LG 235 and it works great. The audio quality leaves a lot to be desired but I am only listening to podcasts while at work. This $3 app and cheap $15 mono bt headset sure beats the crap out of a $50 set of stereo a2dp headset for casual listening. Here is link to where I found my solution.
Crank my tunes through EVO to Plantronics Voyager Pro via Super BT Mono Froyo Pro. Funny name but it is a one of a kind app. Its in the market.
I have a jabra halo stereo headset. I can listen to music just fine. However, ringtones don't get routed properly to the headset - instead its the default jabra ringer. As a result, I have to look at my phone to see who is calling.
Is there any solution to getting ringtones to play on the headset?
bump bump for bluetooth
Works for me
SuperMonoBT Froyo works great on my HTC Inspire / ATT / Plantronics Voyager Pro. A bit of static from time to time, but otherwise fine. It automatically switches back to speakers if you turn off the BT. Menu includes an item to automatically pipe to the heatset if it is connected, which it did when launching Google Maps Navigation.

T-Mo Galaxy tab cannot pair with phone BT headsets

It seems that the BT headset function is disabled in the T-Mo Tab so even if you use Skype you cannot use BT which is very annoying for a device of this size
I have tried to pair a few of them and they are all not visible when BT scanning to pair
Is there a way to patch that with some of the EU tab files?
Thanks
Eric
Note: it is possible to pair stereo headsets but they will not work with skype or a VOIP app
My plantronics voyager pro+ works great with my tab. There is actually a thread already with tab owners talking about what all bluetooths work and which ones dont. My tab is a tmo tab.
Sent from Jt's Samsung Galaxy Tab!!
Thanks JTC442
Your plantronics voyager pro+ is supporting A2DP and all (or most of) the A2DP headsets are connecting to the Galaxy Tab
Have you been able to use this headset for a VOIP call?
Eric
No, only using actual phone. No mic with voip.

That is why I am looking for a file patch in this thread to get access to these features
It is interesting to inventory the handsets that works but at the end of the day,
None works in headset mode and most of them work in headphone mode
I would bet that the EU FW has BT headsets working just fine

yeah my bt headsets were working fine with the EU firmware , i have the plantroics 975 and jabra stone, also the Motorola MOTOROKR S9-HD worked great.. only thing i did notice i was having some issues reconnecting to the my bt headsets sometimes either a bad flash or something to do with the wifi ad-hoc mod, when i get my tab again i will try with the new euro firmware and see if i have the same issues, the Motorola MOTOROKR S9-HD did work on the US firmware just fine as well as my jabra stone but did not detect my plantronics 975
I have a feeling bluetooth headsets have been blocked on u.s. Tablets to prevent phone use. I have tried 2, both work fine on othet devices, but are not found in my GT's settings-bluetooth-scan menu... However I downloaded the google bluetooth app, and it does see the headset, even though its not the proper device type for that app.

Can you be a bit more specific? What Google Bluetooth app??
Its called "bluetooth talk" by google market inc on applanet. Not in the normal market, not sure why or if its really a google thing now. But "bluetooth chat" in the market sees my headset just fine also.

Not fond of Applanet, I rather pay for shareware when I need it and support the developers. What does this Bluetooth Talk does? Does it help in anyway?
E
The apps wont pair with the device but will show that the device is actually viewable to the tab. Just search "bluetooth chat" in market. Hit search and it will discover the headset. You still cant pair, but it shows there is no problem with the bluetooth protocol stack, but the pairing program settings compromised.

[Q] Bluetooth headset and Skype/VOIP software

I tried to use Nokia BH=503 Bluetooth headset with GTAB and it works fine, but I cannot answer calls on skype/nimbus
I have to answer on the tablet, and then switch to headset.
Is there any way to answer a call from any SIP application from a Bluetooth headset ?
I have tried some BT headset, and I encountered the same problem. Skype cannot work with them. However, I tried Nokia BH905 BT headphone, it works for both phone and Skype. So, I think the issue doesn't lies on the Skype apps, rather, I think it is the compatibility of the BT headset/headphone.
Nokia used to be notorious for not adhering to bluetooth "standards" with their devices, this is potentially still the case with some of their units. They'd work fine with Nokia phones but often with minor caveats with other brands, so different models might have different "issues".
Actually my Jabra bt530 easily pairs on Sipdroid, no luck on Skype thou
Skype is not using a bluetooth headset profile, just A2DP so you will get sound, but the microphone will still be the one on the Tab.

Hi Dave, I used the voice test on Skype (away from the tab), it works. When I leave my tab on my bed and I was having conversation with my headphone in the toilet, it works. Do I need to say more.
I too suspect that no BT headphone can work with Skype, but it happens, I am happy.

I believe that there are some headsets out there that can supply a mic input over A2DP, but most cannot it would seem. I only say this because I've heard anecdotal stories of some users being able to use a BT headset with Skype, but the vast majority cannot.
The general difference seems to be using a stereo headset, though I don't have a stereo headset which has a mic so I can't check.
Regards,
Dave
Yes, as mentioned, I tried Motorola, no way. Maybe it is because the model can support both mono Headset and Hands Free profiles and stereo A2DP and AVRCP. Or maybe it has a dual microphone for making voice calls ??????
There is a new model, BH-905i, I think if you guys love music and travel quite a bit, I think this is a good headphone to consider. Battery life is superb as well. I used it to play games too, and it has amazing sound without actually disturbing your neighbours.
