[Q] htc ime disabled on reboot? - Legend General

Can anyone help?
Legend, running SuperFroyo 4.2
I've successfully installed and used the HTC IMe keyboard on my phone.
However, every time I reboot, the HTC keyboard is un-selected and disabled.
Before I can use it again, I have to go back into the settings and re-enable it, and then make the choice to use it as the input method.
Is there any way I can force the phone to have this enabled and selected as the default keyboard?
Cheers.

Don't install the keyboard on the SD card.

rule #1) do not delete the factory keyboard, for any reason.
The only thing you can do is like Low&Behold said.
or if you can ADB install apps, or have a file manager i can send you a keyboard that i have on my phone.

change the keyboard on stock

i searched and all i could find was how to change the keyboard on a non stock rom.
i was wondering how to go about changing the keyboard on a stock rom, i installed thumb keyboard but as you know the stock roms do not have a place to change the keyboard in the settings.
would i need to place the files in the system data/ app (i dont remember which one it was) like i did when i had cm7 on my fire?

Have u tried this one?
Hidden Settings
I did this to get swype before I switched to CM7/CM9 I think what I ended up doing is downloading a hidden settings app, which allowed me to locate the option for keyboards. I think there is one available from amazon market, and a few in the play store.
think you mean this one:

Your new keyboard must be copied to system/app (with rooted device)
Then use nook color app to switch keyboard

Keyboard keeps changing

I've Samsung S4 running Kitkat 4.4.2 on Hasan Rom
My problem is that after every reset my device keyboard keeps going back to the default samsung keyb.. while I installed perfect keyboard and wish to always use it.. but after I restart after setting it as my default keyboard, it goes back to the samsung keyboard and I have to select perfect keyboard again from the settings menu.
Isn't there anyway to keep this keyboard permanent without it getting changed after every restart?
Thanks.
Bump!
Anyone?
Move the keyboard app you want to use as default to internal storage.

You are welcome. :fingers-crossed:
This must be application specific. SwiftKey had similar issues when Google changed the way default applications are loaded. I would have to change to SwiftKey after every reboot. But now it stays default.

The run-on-boot apps (like launcher, keyboards) should not be moved to SD card.
The SD card need a little time at boot to prepare and check for error.
At that time all apps on sd card lost "Default".

Disable Samsung Keyboard?

Hi all!
I'm trying to permanently disable the Samsung Keyboard. The problem is, randomly the keyboard will be set back as my default. If I uncheck the keyboard and reboot the device, it is checked again. I'd like to use swiftkey as my primary keyboard, but not if I have to change back every few hours.
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
I'm rooted and running Dynamic Kat v4. I have chosen to use the stock keyboard under the roms settings.
Thanks!

Once you installed a different keyboard go to /system/app and add .bak to LatinIME.apk (LatinIME.apk.bak) or delete it, reboot and the Samsung keyboard will not start up again.
As you've rooted your device, you can permanently delete samsung keyboard from system - app..
Better keep a backup first of those files which you want to delete.. So later if you face any problem, so you can restore them..

If rooted, other solution after installing other keyboard (mine's swipe keyboard) is to freeze samsung keyboard by Titanium Backup.
That's what I did and works well.
Best regards
Franky
Thanks for the help all.
I couldn't find LatinIME.apk, maybe because I have a custom rom loaded or I wasn't using the right tool to look for the file. I tried file manager and even windows explorer when connected to my PC but didn't find the file.
Used Titanium Backup and it worked like a charm.
Thanks all!

Can't enter decryption password on boot after removing Google Keyboard

I completely removed Google Keyboard from stock rom (Moto X Play, 6.0.1) and installed Hacker's Keyboard instead. Everything works fine, but when phone boots and the screen appears where you have to enter the password to decrypt the device no keyboard is present on screen. I can go around it with USB OTG and physical PC keyboard but this is not something I can do anytime as I don't carry the keyboard with me. Is there any way to use custom keyboard to decrypt the phone or is it somehow set to work with Google keyboard only? Hacker's Keyboard is installed in /system/app if that matters. TIA

Decrypt as in unlock the phone? Have you set up the keyboard as a default one?

Decrypt when you reboot. It works in TWRP, but TWRP has its own keyboard. I set HKeyboard as default, but it's not working on decrypt screen for some reason.

Hmmm..... Have you tried installing the keyboard to /system/priv-app instead? Not sure if that will work but it may be worth a try.

Thanks but it doesn't work either. I suspect Google keyboard has a special privilege built in "for security reasons".
