change the keyboard on stock - Kindle Fire General

i searched and all i could find was how to change the keyboard on a non stock rom.
i was wondering how to go about changing the keyboard on a stock rom, i installed thumb keyboard but as you know the stock roms do not have a place to change the keyboard in the settings.
would i need to place the files in the system data/ app (i dont remember which one it was) like i did when i had cm7 on my fire?

Have u tried this one?

Hidden Settings
I did this to get swype before I switched to CM7/CM9 I think what I ended up doing is downloading a hidden settings app, which allowed me to locate the option for keyboards. I think there is one available from amazon market, and a few in the play store.

think you mean this one:

Your new keyboard must be copied to system/app (with rooted device)
Then use nook color app to switch keyboard

As far as I can see, Live Wallpapers are not going to work until someone bakes a custom rom. The Live wallpaper picker just force closes on selection. So, unless I failed at installing the live wallpapers and the picker...

What launcher are you using? Did you try ADW or Launcher Pro? did you also load livewallpapers.apk?
I loaded livewallpapers.apk and the livewallapaerspicker.apk
I tried with Sense and sweeterhome
But I think I need to load the .SO files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647837
But I have to find a different SD card because I can't get into recovery mode with my 8gb sd card.
(I left my 2gb at home)
ADW gave me the same problem.
I was able to adb remount since I pushed your clean update
But now I am getting "out of memory" when I try to push the SO files.
So I guess I will have to do the push in restore mode.

Let me know if you can figure out a way to get it running in Sense. I still haven't gotten my Aria (due to show up on Monday), but the lack of wallpapers is the one thing I was disappointed with.
Well I have live wallpapers working on my aria right now in alternate launchers like adw and launcher pro.
Pulled the files from a custom rom that adds live wallpapers for legend then rebuilt them into a rom I'm working on stripped of at&t crap. Did not replace the rosie apk since at this time tha just crashed htc.launcher.
This is a fun little phone.

Hey Bob, did you find a way to fix the non-market apps toggle in settings? I am working on a modified spare parts type deal to do that now, but if you already have a fix, I am all ears. Funny, AT&T didn't like the name Liberty. How fitting that they chose not to use it.
we really should open an IRC channel
The real question is there a way to do Live Wallpapers & Sense at the same time.
I know I am being picky, but I want my tech the way I want my tech.

I havent worked at all on the market toggle, i figure since we can sideload the settings.db file and it works its very low on my care list. All i worked on today was stripping out what i didnt like and trying to make a nice clean rom that had all the default files i wanted in it (google voice, pandora, etc..). Just happened to also play with the live wallpapers and found it worked on the way home when i tried a new launcher.

Yes, Please and Thank You
Yeah all the files are on my work machine so I will do that in a bit later. Will put it into a zip able to be recovered into an existing rooted aria so anyone can add them.

Update file for adding LWP to Aria
6/28/10 - Updated to allow LWP in the Sense UI
* This assumes you have your phone rooted and have access to the Clockwork Mod to allow updating your phone with unsigned zip files *
1.) Put the file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod
4.) install zip from sdcard (option 5)
5.) choose zip from sdcard (option 2)
6.) Click on the file you downloaded and put on your sdcard
6a.) If you run into an error when installing shut off your phone,, unplug it from the USB cable, then reboot it back into Clockwork Mod and start again from step 2
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system
8.) Upon reboot you can now choose Live Wallpaper in the wallpaper options
*Issues*
The only issue that I know of at this time is you have to use the settings/personalize/lock screen wallpaper option in order to change the lockscreen wallpaper
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.
*Files*
Clean install of the LWP packages
Select this if you want to install the LWP on a clean install or install without any LWP
Update install of the LWP packages
Select this if you used the previous version with LauncherPro and Home Switcher. This will remove those packages and update to the Sense Enabled LWP.
Thanks! I just flashed it and it works great. There's Absolutely no loss with performance with it either.

* if this file downloads under a different name just rename it to aria-lwp.zip, first time using Mediafire *
Ok lets see if this works =)
1.) Put the aria-lwp.zip file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod using the rooting methods in the how to root your aria thread
3.) Go to the Partitions Menu and select the first option (mount /system)
4.) Go back to the main menu and choose to install a zip file
5.) Choose the option to install a zip from the SD Card
6.) Click on the aria-lwp.zip file
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system.
8.) Upon reboot the home menu should pop up asking you to choose which home menu to launch. Choose the LauncherPro option.
9.) Go into the wallpaper options and choose your live wallpaper, it should work with no issues.
10.) Set up your new launcher, refer to any Launcher Pro threads for more info on this nice replacement launcher.
At anytime you can use the home switcher program to go back to the HTC Sense launcher if you want to use that instead. Same with setting up which launcher is used by default when you press the home button.
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.

Any chance we'll ever get this working in Sense?
Well, that didn't work.
I am still getting force quit
I might needs to do a clean flash.
Ok, I got stock to run, but I also want to get rid of the lockscreen and make it default as well. Any ideas?
Ok, reflashed with the clean install and it worked.

Lost my dailer

Hi,
I'm using Jellyfish's 2.2 build3 ROM on my blade. I deleted an app called smartdailer.apk and now i have lost the ability to actually type in and dial phone numbers.
I am presuming the default dialer is still there as i can call my contacts (the default dialer is bundled with the contacts app) but i do not have a link to it nor any icon I can click on to access it.
Does anyone know how to restore the froyo 2.2 default dailer?
I'm using ADW launcher and want to place an icon on my home screen
SmartDialer.apk is the default dialler app from ZTE. You can use adb to push this file back after extracting a copy from the ROM zip, or (if you've not changed other bits of the /system directory) you could just flash the ROM again without wiping your data.
Hmm well i reinstalled it so no worries there, but this isn't the dialier i had when i first flashed my phone (different froyo rom)
I'm sure that was the default android one it offered easy access to contacts via tabs at the top of the screen.
I tried posting an image but i'm not allowed as i have less than 8 posts.

restoring default keyboard

UPDATE: rather than try to restore the original nook keyboard, that I'm not interested in except to allow reinstallion of go keyboard, I installed another popular keyboard, SlideIT, and enabled it with a modified Sqlite3 code of Renate. Provider for the SlideIT is
com.dasur.slideit/.SlideITIME
Now if I don't like the SlideIT keyboard, I can always reinstall go keyboard after uninstalling the SlideIT.
===
Unfortunately I still have problems with the go keyboard, and this time it is completely my fault. Following Renate's instructions about sqlite3, I was able to install the free version of the keyboard, but hated the ads that came with it. My mistake was in uninstalling the ad-ridden version when I think I should have replaced the it with my other version (although that might not work either because the new install might require unstalling the old app). After unstalling it, I tried installing the new version but was unable to do so - I've tried everything I can do to install it. Rebooted - reinstalled. No luck. Deleted the old version from the system/ap folder using root explorer, then tried reinstalling - again no luck. Tried repeating the sqlite commands - nope! etc.
Using Nook Color Tools, I find that the go keyboard.pad process is still running and cannot be shut off. I suppose that is the problem.
It seems like what I need to do is to reverse the 'enable' go keyboard sqlite commands, with another sest of sqlite commands that restores the default keyboard. Is that possible, and if so what would I use to replace the 'go keyboard' material in sqlite for the 'default keyboard'?
I suppose I need the provider for the default keyboard, and the name of the keyboard.
Once that's done, then I think I can install my go keyboard using sqlite (?)

[Q] Need help installing ICS Keyboard

So I grab the ics keyboard app from google play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/....android.inputmethod.latin.ice_cream_sandwich
Itinstalls fine. Launch it tells me it needs to be set up. Fine. I'd already gotten NookColor Tools since it lets you do this. Trouble is it doesn't see anything other than the 'stock' keyboard. I'm guessing ADB is going to be needed for this?
Edit: Solved. Used RootManager to move the apk over. Went with Jellybean instead. Same process as above except it worked.
You need to convert the keyboard to a system app.

Lemme guess. ADB involved? I'd tried a different filemanager (root Explorer) and gotten the ics apk moved over and still nada.
Could probably do it with ADB, but I usually use Titanium Backup for that. Not sure if you need Pro to do that though. Might just have to reboot after moving the apk.
Got it done with jellybean keyboard. Same process dunno why one worked and the other didn't. Ah well.
Used RootManager to move the files from A to B.

Disable Samsung Keyboard?

Hi all!
I'm trying to permanently disable the Samsung Keyboard. The problem is, randomly the keyboard will be set back as my default. If I uncheck the keyboard and reboot the device, it is checked again. I'd like to use swiftkey as my primary keyboard, but not if I have to change back every few hours.
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
I'm rooted and running Dynamic Kat v4. I have chosen to use the stock keyboard under the roms settings.
Thanks!

Once you installed a different keyboard go to /system/app and add .bak to LatinIME.apk (LatinIME.apk.bak) or delete it, reboot and the Samsung keyboard will not start up again.
As you've rooted your device, you can permanently delete samsung keyboard from system - app..
Better keep a backup first of those files which you want to delete.. So later if you face any problem, so you can restore them..

If rooted, other solution after installing other keyboard (mine's swipe keyboard) is to freeze samsung keyboard by Titanium Backup.
That's what I did and works well.
Best regards
Franky
Thanks for the help all.
I couldn't find LatinIME.apk, maybe because I have a custom rom loaded or I wasn't using the right tool to look for the file. I tried file manager and even windows explorer when connected to my PC but didn't find the file.
Used Titanium Backup and it worked like a charm.
Thanks all!
