New email font - Galaxy Tab General

I am on the TMO variant of the Tab and one thing that annoys me is how the email client displays emails (when you first enter the client).
Typically, new / unread email is bolded or even colored differently then read email. On the Tab, it is VERY difficulty to determine if the email has been read or not.. hopefully I am making sense here ;-)
Is there a setting somewhere I am not aware of?
thanks!

Newbie questions - M5000 Email Options

Hi,
I have just upgraded from a very tired SE P900 to an Orange SPV M5000/HTC Universal and so far am loving it.
I run several email accounts and would like to be able to monitor at least two or three of them from the M5000, collecting the emails seperately as opposed to forwarding them all to a central inbox but there doesn't seem to be any logical way of doing it.
Also, what is the cheapest way of setting up some sort of push email functionality - I have only just started to look into this and see that Orange charge extra for the service.
I have updated (after problems with the Country ID error) to Orange's AKU2 ROM and have Exchange Server 2003 installed and have access to fixed IPs on the web, etc so can do a lot of things from my end.
Most of the time I will be using it at 3 different sites where I have wireless access and then occasionally would want to use either 3G or GPRS, whatever is available.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
For three seperate e-mail accounts, I'm not sure how to do that with normal POP email.
However, I myself run an IMAP server instead, and it keeps the IMAP emails in a seperate folder for each account. And as a big plus, everything you do is automatically synched between your email clients (e.g. when I read something on my phone, it's also marked as read on my PC)
I hadn't considered IMAP, however how do you deal with sending messages so that they go out of the different messages?
I need to ensure that the messages from the three accounts are kept totally separate with no confusion between sending addresses.

I'm not sure with multiple IMAP accounts, but I do know that if you press "New", it'll just start the message with the current account you're browsing. So if I'm browsing the SMS inbox and press "New" it'll send as a text message, and in IMAP it'll send as an email.
Think your best option would be to test
Sorry, I am a newbie to this. Would you tell me what is IMAP?? and how do i set it up to check my email account?? is it sort of like the push email??
Thx
Maggie
The two main protocols for collecting email on the web are POP3 and IMAP - with POP3 your mail gets delivered into a POP3 mailbox at your ISP and you then login with your mail program to download the emails to your local machine.
IMAP was developed on the basis of leaving your emails on the server and then only grabbing the headers or message bodies that you are interested in reading.
For example I run my own Exchange server and connect to exchange from my desktop to read/send emails. I can then use IMAP from my Universal to connect and give me a view of my message on the Exchange server - it downloads the headers and shows the ones I have read/not read. When I read a message on the Universal it is marked as read back on the Exchange server and appears as read on my desktop and vice versa - this way I don't have any duplicate messages.
Sorry, a bit long winded, but should give you an idea of how handy it can be - the biggest problem is that few ISPs openly support it due to the message store overhead.
Thank you Julian. What program should i use for Imap???
I wanna give it a try. Is there any other softwares out there which givesyou the blackberrry function??

Differentiating E-mail accounts

is there any way to make the envelopes of the email accounts different. I have about 4 email accounts and unless I go over them with the stylus I never know which one is which. Mabe there is a tweak that can make the envelopes different collors or something. What the hell when they made Touchflow the Htc guys tought we will have only 1 email account?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Is the name of the e-mail account on the envelop and the bar when scrolling through them not enough??

no, it is not enough because I want to know witch email has messages whithout scrolling on it. Now all I see are white envelopes with no difference beetween them.
its a good idea if can be developed i knowwhat you mean, to see emails you have to click the envelope then you could go to inbox at the top and select different folders (you see the email name there) but be a nice addition to see the email account on folder, or sysmbol, or something. like Y! for yahoo G for google mail SKY, whatever. a "O" in orange for orange etc
Yes, strange isn't it?
And if your email boxes are empty, there is no way to say which email account belongs to the white small envelope.
And there are only 4 email envelopes No way to scroll to all of them in TouchFlo...
Its like the application is not finished here....
Or are there any solutions for this?
I have 4 email accounts set up. One MAPI(Hotmail), One Exchange Server(outlook main), 1 IMAP4 and one POP3 account. It notifies which one has the new email in it with a number in green. The program is not unfinished. It it complete and does what it is supposed to do. I get notification and then hit the notification and it takes me to the mail box of my choice.
Perhaps there is a way that I am not aware of is to choose which account you want to send it from.
I totally agree, I have three accounts and it is impossible to tell wich envelope is wich account without tap/holding each one. And even worse, even then the names don't always refresh in time, so tap/holding my hotmail account and then tap/holding my work account will first display my work account it as being the hotmail account and only the second time I tap/hold it will it show the correct label.
Really don't like this. I would LOVE a way of differentiating email accounts and also the labels updating in time.....
The small email account envelopes should have been the same as the small picture icons on the right of the people tab, or the small entries on the right of the stocks tab.
Slide out, give full account name, while displaying the first letters of the account name.
And scrollable, so I can see all my 7 email accounts.
A smart Touch3d template builder could make the changes.

Email Icons, can there be a name under it?

On my email tab I have three email accounts. Is there any way to put a text under or behind the email icons to show wich icon is for wich account?
Now if there is no mail in the mailbox I dont know wich icon is valid for wich email account.
Mmmm...
I've not heard of anyone doing this. Had a quick search but found nothing. You're right, though, it would be helpful.
The way I get round this (not the ideal solution), is to always leave one email in the inbox of each of my accounts. At least that way, the envelope is always there in TF3D with the name of the email account on it

I also thought about your workaround but when I switch on my laptop and checking mail than the mailbox on the HTC Diamond is empty after sending and receiving the next time. So really need to have a possibility to have the name somewhere around the email icons.

GMAIL Label Push/Notification BROKEN?

There's been some sporadic posts of this around the net, but nothing concrete.
I've got a AWS N1 on WIND Mobile (Canadian company) and GMAIL push works perfectly fine (basically instantaneous) if emails lands in my Inbox.
If however, email lands in a Gmail Label (that is set to auto-archive, ie. bypass the inbox and go directly into the label), the N1 will NOT notify me that I have new mail.
So basically:
Email ---> Inbox = Notification
Email ---> Label (w/ archiving) = NO Notification
Has anyone noticed this before? Is this just the way Gmail functions on the N1?

Well, that's how Gmail works... on your PC.
Ok, gmail labels are somewhat confusing, so I'll explain how they work with an example:
Open up gmail.com on your PC.
Send an email to yourself that will get autoarchived.
Will the email show up in your inbox?
No, because it's autoarchived.
So why would you get a notification on your phone if you don't get a new email in your inbox?
Get rid of the auto-archiving if you want the notifications to pop up.
Notifications on your phone mirror your INBOX.

Which leads to a problem i occassionally have; I have my Gmail box set up for multiple inboxes; everything from my MAIN Gmail address comes into the inbox, as well as everything from 3 other gmail address; the other three however, are autolabeled upon receipt respectively; every so often, I'll get an email on one of these 3 emails. My N1 will show that I have an unread email (across the top, it'll say "Inbox (1)"), but I can't see the actual new msg. I'll then log into my main gmail account on the PC, and sure enough I have a new email in my inbox, with both the "inbox" and alternate label applied. Once I mark it as read or delete it, my N1 then shows that I have (0) unread msgs. It's random, and doesn't apply to just any single email address I have funneled into my main Gmail Inbox. I'm at a bit of a loss. If anyone has any constructive ideas (besides "don't use multiple inboxes), I'd love to hear them.

Changes labels to all mail, then change back to inbox.
You'll see the unread one there.
Thank's for straightening that out Paul.
I figured as much, but just wanted to be sure I wasn't experiencing some weird glitch. It's a little bit of a pain to have all mail in the inbox as it really does clutter up the place.
Oh well...
This did get me thinking though. Since the GMAIL app is basically running all the time on the phone, would it not be possible to write code that would have the GMAIL app issue a notification when it receives an email that goes straight into a label and not the inbox? Especially if that label is set to sync.

Unfortunately, Google Apps (like Gmail) are closed-source. Not much anyone can do with em.
You might be able to use the secondary Mail app to add Gmail as POP or IMAP and it might give notifications for other labels, not sure.

[Q] Email tiles don't update and can't send text messages

Hi folks,
I've configured my two email accounts successfuly but the tiles don't update according with the number of email received. Basically the tiles behave as if no emails are received
Other issue i'm encountering is the fact that text messages are not being delivered and on the phone i get no error. Although i don't receive any delivery reported.
Any one else experiencing any of these issues too? any solution?
Big thanks,
Ernesto
what kind of mail server you use (imap, active sync/exchange, hotmail)?
Your phone works well (do you loose settings after power off and on?)?
i dont face this issue with exchange active sync.
Same issue. I did configure Live, FB and Outlook accounts. My settings are also correctly saved.
1. I have set up my Hotmail account and dont face such issues. Number of newly arrived mails are shown correctly. But again, this might be cause i only have set up the hotmail account.
2. Concerning the text messaging problem, I havent faced the problem of undelivered text messages yet. But just for the record, the message delivered function is working for me. Might be an issue with your provider?
3. Although there is one update problem I am also facing:
When having 3 newly arrived emails, the Outlook tile shows the correct number of new Emails (in this case 3). But when I enter Outlook on my WP7 and leave right away withouth having looked at any of the new messages, the Outlook tile is back to zero, meaning showing no new messages, although i havent opend the newly arrived emails.
I am not sure if this is intended to work like this, or if this is due to that it is a ripped WP7 OS. Mayby somebody owning a real WP7 can shed light on this matter. I also is not a big deal for me, but nontheless, it would be nice to see the number of unread messages on the tile.
For me none of my tiles is updating. SMS, E-mails. Any solution yet?

Apply the file FIX system Log.zip
Worked perfectly, thank you.
