I haven't seen any posts about this so I thought I'd put it out there. I know a lot of people on Froyo are disappointed about not being able to watch hulu, but if you are a Comcast subscriber, go to comcast.com and login. You can watch any show that is on-demand through xfinity. And if you subscribe to any of the premium channels, you can watch those also. I was watching Dexter earlier. It's awesome.
I can't seem to get past "Obtaining Authorization"... I've doubled checked that my device is authorized...
Any thoughts? (Which browser are you using?)
Ya, I've gotten that too on some shows. It seems to be random. Some shows work instantly. Some are stuck. Not sure the reason. Trying to see if there is some pattern.

Iv been waiting for the comcast app for a little while. Read it finally may be out by the end of the week.
Oh ya and still waiting for netflix.
Fear the beard...
I cant wait for this one... **** hulu and their blocking techiques... ;-)

I get the videos but the sound is delayed and then catches up, but goes out of sync again. The video is choppy anyways and not worth watching. I prefer just downloading the episodes and putting them on my sdcard to watch.

Without sense of adventure, we, the HD2 owners are nothing!
Okay, most of you already know this but...
Skyfire works by catching the website you are visiting and sending it to their cloud-based servers. They re-interpret it on the fly and send it back as HTML5, meaning any video you see has been converted to H.264 in real-time.
As amazing as that is, it does offer some non-inconsiderable technical obstacles that are difficult for a (thus far) free application developer to overcome.
Number one on that list is a means of obtaining more computing power during peak times.
If the makers of Skyfire could get some co-operation from Google or even Microsoft, they could get that much-needed server space when their own loads reach past 55%.
If I wait until around 3am, I can actually watch Hulu with very little lag, but at any point during the day, I get some serious lag. During the evenings, when everyone is either off work or riding the bus home, I can't seem to find anything watchable.
worked, but then stopped working after a refresh. Still getting the "not available on your platform" notice. =(
I just tried it and I get the infamous "video not avail for your platform" error still...grrrr
Was just curious if anyone else had any luck with this. I have a COX HBO subscription and received a flyer in the mail informing me that I could watch HBO movies for free via the internet thru HBOGO.com because I have an HBO subscription.
I thought well hell maybe I can watch HBO movies on my Xoom. Sure enough HBO and COX are not blocking it or anything but the damn Xoom browser gets all buggy and either freezes or crashes somewhere during the movie.
It also works if you have an HBO subscription with Verizon, Comcast and DirectTV, etc..
Was curious to see others experiences with this and their Xoom...I watched a few minutes of Vertigo, Terminator Salvation and Avatar before the Xoom browser crashes.
I tried in the stock browser, Firefox and Dolphin HD. The flash just doesn't seem to be able to handle it.

Yeah I tried skyfire and dolphin as well with no luck. Stock worked best but eventually crashes.
I did a Google search and apparently HBO is coming out with an HBOGO app for iOS and Android, so hopefully that comes out sooner rather than later...or at least we get a working stable flash player/browser at some point.
Im with directv.
I was able to get the stock browser to play but not without using unconventional methods. The video plays great once you actually get it to work.
I was able to get it to work with the stock browser. I only watched a few minutes of a show so I don't know how stable it was.
We all know Dolphin Hd isnt honeycomb friendly yet...So why not try Dolphin Mini..It works 20 times better than Dolphin Hd
Try dolphin mini works perfect once you get it to play. Kinda gotta tap it a few times to get it cuz it disapears but awesome. Just watched a movie on it. Dolphin mini is not like dolphin HD at all. Set it up though through settings as desktop user agent and flash always on

Thanks for the tips guys!!
I just tried HDMini and it worked for awhile and then the movie started skipping and freezing with the movie Vertigo. I DID get thru avatar so HD MINI sure beats stock.
Thanks again man!!!
Ha, check this out!! If you are an HBO subscriber this is HUGE news!!!

Looks like the app is coming on May 2!!!
I may need to get HBO again...
Was really excited about this until I read my cable provider (cablevision) will not be carrying this... ridiculous.

I am able to use HBO to go with the stock browser in my xoom. I found that searching for movies in the portriat oriantation helps to see all the choices. I watch them full screen in landscape over wifi. The video is a little blockie looking but its a good start!
I'm disappointed watching HBOGO on my XOOM. My wife has an iPad2 and it streams and look beautiful everytime. However, on the XOOM it will invariable get blocking and even freeze at times. There must be more overhead to display it in safari as we are both using the same high speed internet connection.
actually tried to download it for offline viewing. would not complete - error fetching license or something. Completed a form asking for a refund - and this is the response.
"Sorry you encountered this error on your first attempt to view an Android
Market movie. This error occurs if you attempt to play a movie on a rooted
device. Rooted devices are currently unsupported due to security reasons.
I've gone ahead and refunded you for your purchase. Thanks."
I'll answer you, but there are literally 3 threads on this.
If you are rooted, it ruins the DRM encryption and won't play the movie. There is not a work around ATM.
i still cant see paying 1.99 when i can pay 99 cents at redbox... i wish netflix would become available for the xoom... pLEASE

conservatively:
Current avg for gas: $3.98/gal
Your car's MPG: 24mpg
Distance to Redbox: 3mi (6mi roundtrip)
Gas burnt: .25 gal
Gas cost: $0.96
Consider wear and tear on the vehicle as well (tires, oil, engine, etc), I'm pretty sure it'd rise well above the $1 you are spending to have it.
Not to mention the convenience of having it instantly. I understand the quality may be lower, you may rather watch it on the big screen instead of the Xoom, etc. But as far as price goes... you aren't paying $1 more overall.
That being said - I'm with you. I'd kill to have the Netflix app working on my Xoom.
i got my 3.1 update but no damm movie tab.. I erased the cache but dont see it.. im stock, no root ever.

Is that what it is? I can't see it on my Wifi Xoom either. Lame.
I see it fine :O)
yep. Google confirmed it's not available on the wifi Xoom. We will getting it in a few weeks. It will also be available for other devices. Wonder if Google had some kind of agreement with Verizon? Don't see why it wouldn't work on the wifi Xoom.
I was just thinking about the whole movie rental thing not being available to root users because they are lumping us all in with thieves. How's this for a solution?
Instead of making it where we can't rent movies, can't they just make it where we aren't able to download them to the device (in other words, no pinning.) and only make them streamable? I would be happy with that. I mean, it would suck for flights and stuff where you don't have a connection, but It'd be better than the solution that they've currently got going.
Thoughts?
screw that they get no money
the movie industry can continue to screw themselves over
Yeah I dont understand... it just gives people a REASON to Pirate movies.
"oh I cant rent this movie on my tablet? Fine then I'll just hit up a torrent site"
Expecting the media copyright holders to be reasonable might be a bit naive
Google has to go along with whatever crazy **** they demand to license their content.
I have no problem whatsoever paying for a rental. I pay for netflix, hulu and frequently comcast on-demand stuff already. If I want to watch a movie on my tablet though, and the easiest thing to do is hit up usenet, then so be it. It usually downloads faster that way anyway.
If they want my money, they just have to make it convenient or at the very least not annoying...

Amen, brother.
Has anyone tried Amazon's video service? Not sure if it works on the Xoom / if it uses a special player.

On another thread someone said that rooted Xooms could rent Google movies, just rent them through the web-based market. I haven't tried it yet.
web market works
Web market works for movie rentals through the native browser, helps to be logged into YouTube with the purchasing account through the browser as well. Also u have to set the quality lower if u didn't purchase the HD version. Works fine on my rooted 3.1 xoom. I have the hulu 10.3 and I believe the root 3.1 included the ua-string. I get errors trying to watch it through the native video app and I can't figure out how to open it in the native YouTube app, but full screen works fine through the browser streaming.
Same applies to watching it through browser on any computer too, we should get more then a day to watch it through...
Just purchase mega viewer pro... problem solved lol

Does it allowed to be downloaded/pinned? I'd like to find a solution for watching offline as I travel often.
All this is going to do is make people want to pirate movies. If it isn't easy to just purchase the movie than people are just going to go through other routes to get it on their device.
They are targeting root users, root users are the ones that know how to get stuff on the device without having to go through the market. In my opinion they will for sure lose more money by doing this.
Just like the title says.

EDIT; Well I was trying to post a single tweet, but I guess you can't. Anyways according to HTC's twitter EVO (among a few others) are supported on Hulu Plus. Anybody tried it yet?
Do people even care about hulu plus? I know it is more centered around tv shows and netflix is more about movies, but why would you pay for something that still has commercials?
IDK. I've just seen a few threads where people were asking about it, so I thought I'd throw it out there....
I can not download from market.. Says my Evo is not compatible. PC3600 is how my device shows up in Market.
Has anyone tried this? I have a temporary trial of HuluPlus but would like to give it a try.
Thanks,
Rick
Well, it installed fine for me....

It has 3-5 commercials per episode, it costs $8 bucks a month and I can watch on my phone, on the computer and my HDTV. I was paying $100/mo for cable and I couldn't take it with me anywhere and it had even more commercials. HULU+ is win IMO. Netflix streaming kinda sucks, lame selection and not enough HD.
Just came in here to say Hulu sucks ass. Netflix is better.

3-5 commercials per episode is 3 - 5 too many
netflix rocks, period zero commercials, zero ads and they are still rockin
ive never liked hulu, and even less now that i know the plus service still has commercials ( meaning i probably will have to watch the SAME dam commercial 5 times per episode? gimme a break)

Exactly. I dont want to pay for loads of ads. They only have shows. I wanted to watch "how i met your mother " on hulu but to no avail. I cancelled my service right after that.
