So my dad is a photographer and uses google calendar for all his events. My mom is his assistant. After I got my g1, he loved it so much he got a mytouch 3g. His mytouch is god-awful slow, worse than my g1 when it wasn't rooted. As a result he doesn't use it much. I proposed the idea of rooting it and putting cyanogen on, but he's not so keen on the idea of roms and everything. So what phone should we get with my mom's 2 year upgrade for him? (we would give the mytouch to my mom (after I rooted it of course))
Nexus *cough**cough*
Yell him to wait on line at A&TT and get that IPhone 4GS and pick up a Ipad and a dock for it.
Just joking...The mytouch-Slide might be good since it will have espresso.
I suggest an Acer Liquid
It looks quite nice, its cheaper than all the other SnapDragons
Underclocked yes, but still quite speedy
Its a big improvement over the old G1 I had
thank you all for your help, we'll consider the liquid

My pops has one and its pretty good but unfortunately the Shadow should have been a choice.
Plus the Galaxy 2 will also have the Nexus launcher and UI.
Ahh but then again the Dragon will soon be awake based on this:

we're on a family plan so subsidized is something that appeals to us a bit more.
Mytouch 4g just has a ffc but nothing to die for same phone without a keyboard and a .1 inch bigger screen
Im keeping my G2 because my last MyTouch 3g 1.5 was a piece of junk.
Also, you get stock Android with the G2.
It appears that the reason you're giving is an opinion. Does this REALLY require a new thread?
There are some people here that would use a front facing camera, myself included.
Also, it's been said that the new mytouch is very well built, and running a next generation snapdragon cpu. Spec-wise, this will be a very nice phone.
well actually i like how thin the new mytouch 4g is and the OS runs pretty well. Plus u get the wifi tethering, uma, and has htc sense ui on top.
at least wen i press the trackpad it will allow me to unlock the screen instead of pressing the power button up top.
also the ffc is not very good video was choppy and laggy...it is using the quik app same as the one on the EVO
the material on the mytouch is not good as the G2

FFC helps future-proof your phone since more devices will ship with FFCs in the future. Vanilla android is more of a reason to keep the G2 since we SHOULD receive updates faster than skinned versions of android. The physical keyboard is nice but it definitely isn't needed by most people or necessary for most applications to function (can''t think of anything outside of emulators).

*buzzer sound* Nope, it's not truly Sense UI. It's Sense with a custom skin on TOP of Sense, the Expresso skin that came on the Slide. So it's really a bastardized Sense. *vomits*

To be honest does anyone even really use a ffc? I sure don't so that isn't a sale factor to me. G2 is perfect to me. Has everything I need. I don't need a bunch of useless crap and crappy ui.

Seeing as I own both I can tell you they only thing I miss is the SLCD. Such a difference. Also the MT4G has 768mb of ram. As for stock ui I already use ADW Launcher so it looks the same. It really all just comes down to what your needs are. As far as build quality this mt is very solid, Same if not better than G2, no moving parts =)

Why do you want them to love their G2? If people want to switch to another phone than so what? I love my g2. Itz an amazing phone. I'm going to switch it with a mytouch 4g. Why? I know what a g2 can do. If I don't like the mytouch, tmobile had this thing called a remorse period. Its not that difficult. Well I'm guessing the people that ordered theirs online are SOL

Cool man. You treat that g2 like its your all. Will I use the ffc? Ehh most likely not, don't care much for video chatting. But I have the option Am I going to get the mytouch 4g since I already know what the g2 has to offer? Ehh hell yea. The only reason why my g2 is rooted is because I tether heavily. If the mytouch already have it as a native app, why not.

Because it's not based on the stock android. Please someone, correct me if i'm wrong, but the tethering option on the MT4G is the one T-Mo will use to charge you $15 a month on for using. With the G2 you are currently tethering for free without the providers discretion.
Native tethering on the MT4G, (and possibly on the G2 from the OTA) will mean T-Mobile will be charging that tethering fee just like the other carriers.
That's why they are implementing the 5GB data cap so even if you are tethering on a rooted phone, you won't cost them tons of money.
I'm really liking the nexus one over my G2 for now. It could be the new factor. I love how all the roms work perfect on the device. With the G2 the sense rom lagged and the miui rom would reboot randomly. I really miss the keyboard of the G2. I really would love to see the G2 get official miui support. The development on the nexus one is outrageous.
PS. I didn't mean to put down any G2 developers. You all are awesome and you guys are the reason I'm still holding onto the phone.

I guess that is one of the reason I have not upgrade to new device. Every Rom available for nexus pretty much q good choice. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Nexus one is the one for me, fortunately, i owned it over a year...
if you think development for the nexus one is good now, you should have seen it a few months ago. the development on this phone is just through the roof.
it really is a great phone, all this time later, and why many of us cant find a replacement for our nexus one. it still matches most phones out now approximately, and its perfect size and build with color trackball. nothing else can match it for me but i'm thinking of going with desire s maybe...
The Desire S would be a good choice as it's the closest thing to a N1
I would only buy it though once a CM ROM was available.
The N1 is an awesome phone but has it's issues. Flawed to perfection in my mind!
I get my first N1 soon...stoked to add it to my stable.

Get CM7 on there sharpish and enjoy
I can see myself hanging onto my N1 for as long as possible. Perhaps when the Nexus comes back to the HTC camp again... For now we still have a top flight device that's on par with the best of the competition.
I'd miss the great dock capability, with the gold contacts on the phone, and simple things like the pouch, (been using it since day 1 and after a year it's still pristine), too much to want to change to something that's lacking those nice extras.
it's stupid, I know, but one of the reasons I don't wanna switch from N1 to anything else is the position of the "BACK" button (I like where the buttons are now... Back, Menu, Home, Search)
other factors:
- other phones aren't vanilla-friendly
- trackball
- nexus s feels like something from the dollar store
I really hope another nexus-type phone comes out from HTC, not Samsung (terrible build quality)
oh yeah AND THE POUCH !

The N1 package, with the official docks too, is the best i've ever seen! Docking contacts should be mandatory on all new phones and they should be supplied with pouches!

For Cyanogen Mod alone, nope.
I like Miui which i find to be a little buggy for the G2. So for me it's perfect. I really like the Nexus One, but my G2 isn't going anywhere.
Only problem with the Nexus One is the occasionally erratic touch screen.
And of course at some point the CPU and/or GPU power will become a problem... then we'll have to upgrade.
nexus one is one hell of a phone..
great combination of google(the best os co.)
and htc (the craziest and best phone manufacturer)
I think that until more and more applications are developed for dual core phones or take up more RAM and require more processing power, the phone will always be here.
I personally dony think that we need dual core phones at this point, and I'm only interested in the GS2 because of the screen size and specs.
Ill definitely be keeping this phone for a long time.

you make a great point that is never mentioned, the BACK button should ALWAYS be on the left most part of the bottom. its just natural. we read left to right, and something backwards is to the left, forwards is to the right. so moving your thumb LEFT to hit the back button is the most natural feeling, and the way it should be. moving your thumb RIGHT to go LEFT is just counter intuitive and opposite of how it should be. not sure how these manufacturers dont realize this fact and test it.

That messed me up a little when I first got my Nexus coming from the Captivate in which the back button is tthe 3rd slot.

I completely agree about the buttons, that is the first thing I look for on a new android device, and they never get it right! Also, I absolutely LOVE trackball notifications! I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Nexus One is an amazing device that I see myself holding on to for a long time.
How will this help us epic users on may 8th?
The answer is still: We will have to wait and see how the source code from the Nexus is useful, which depends on which hardware elements it shares with our Epics.
Uh, well is someone going to supply an epic dev with what they need?

Or someone who's happy with they'd phone but hates the bugs. Hardware wise both phones may share the same cpu and gpu but everything else is better in the nexus s. Like the gps chip for one. While I do prefer the epic 4Gs looks the nexus a is a better handset in the end. I'm tired of constantly searching for that "perfect" rom. A pure google experience is the closest thing I can think of.

I don't see why you need to be insulting people who want to get a Nexus S 4G. It seems like a good phone for someone who wants to have the latest android releases immediately available to them. My wife is probably getting the Nexus S 4G as an upgrade from her HTC Hero. The main reason is that she loves CM7 on her Hero and I can't guarantee her CM7 (or future CM releases) on any other phone for sprint. You calling her stupid or in your words "nobody smart" is pretty ridiculous on multiple levels, but mostly because her reasons for getting the Nexus are sound.

That bug wasn't Nexus specific, it was common to android. One of the developers at Google made a blog post about it a while ago.

Yes the 3D is a gimmick but the specs of the phone is so tempting.
GS2 will be out like 2-3 months after and i don't see them getting updated till next year by sammy because we all know how that goes....

When I get a new phone....hopefully...soon, I'm not real sure what it will be. The Nexus just feels AWESOME in your hand but I'm used to the slide out keyboard. The GSII sounds awesome as well but we saw how the support was on the Samsung side plus TW makes development SO much more difficult.
The Nexus S 4G isn't really a step forward like the GSII or the EVO 3D will be. It would also be hard to leave the SAMOLED screen for Super LCD/TFT. Decisions...Decisions...
Been using a 3 years old Palm Pre and have been amazed at how it just works. The specs of the HP Pre 3 look to be pretty solid. I love how emails works correctly on the Pre. I hate the unreliability of email polling on Android in general.

I think he meant the Evo 3D. Hes torn between choosing the SAMOLED Nexus S or the SLCD Evo 3D (which in reality is a qHD screen).
I miss the Super amoled screen
Pros:
FFC
HSPA+
LED FLASH
FM RADIO
Physical Buttons + Dedicated Camera Button
Great build quality
Cons:
No Super Amoled Screen
No 16GB Internal Memory
No more Bionix :/
I don't regret it as much but going from a Super Amoled screen to a standard screen really made me realize how great my Sammy Vibe really was! I took it for granted!! You will be missed! (EXCEPT THE GPS ISSUE)
Well i jumped ship.. can't wait for the SGS2 though! Hope to catch up with some of you guys later in the SGS2/HTC SENSATION threads!

To any CM7 users of vibrant and another phone with CM7(nexus one,MT4g,G2 etc.) are there any other difference in speed? I'm using Cm7 on vibrant but i can't compare it cause it's my only phone.
I picked up a g2 for cheap but still have my vibrant. I don't know what all the fuss was about. This doesn't feel any faster than my kb5 vibrant, and the "build quality" just makes it feel heavy and bulky. Its a decent phone overall, but not any better overall than my vibrant.

Traded the Mytouch 4G for a G2.. G2 is a way better phone than the Mytouch 4G. Some people don't miss keyboards.. but you are crazy not to have a keyboard!! Bought the game gripper and wow.. just wow. The G2 is an overall fun phone and great speed/development/great everything!! Even the hinges on this unit are amazingly stronger than the other g2's i have used.
I really like my wifes mt4g. I began to dislike my G2 before I sold it. It felt like a phone meant for someone that doesn't know how to dress themself. It's hard to explain.
My Vibrant is starting to get old, but I have a sgs4g on the way that should renew my interest in the galaxy line.

Not quite sure what about the SGS 4G would renew your interest in comparison to the Vibrant, unless you are in a 4G area and just really CRAVE the extra bandwidth so much that you won't miss the internal 16GB from the Vibrant (4G only has 1GB internal).. And of course, FFC.... which really AFAIC is a "bell and whistle" that 99% of people use once and never use again.

Add the bad/good screens, dust under the screen issues, bad eMMC chips that are said to cause bricking, creaky buttons on a few units, and off centered FFCs on a few. I wanted to trade as well, but a look at the forums steered me right away.
Well, the only phone I'm moving to when I get the chance is the SGSII, no matter what.
I love HTC phones but plenty of those are CDMA only and that doesnt work in my country :[
I bought the mytouch4g back in January and it was so great to have a phone that worked well right out the box and every custom gingerbread rom I've put on it has ran smoothly. However, I find myself constantly going back to my Vibrant. I miss the screen and I feel like the Vibrant has a lot more devs working on roms. I was just about to sell my Vibrant so I could have a few extra bucks when I read about the GPS fix. If I can find the perfect Gingerbread rom I will be keeping my vibrant until Samsung releases a dual-core phone for T-Mobile.
