Ok So I just sold my Nexus and my Vibrant got here today.
I love it. There is a lot to love about this phone.
First the screen is amazing.
I love how the phone is light yet solid.
I think what I really most about this device is that if it breaks I can take it to a store and get it replaced. With my Nexus if something went wrong, I had to send it in to HTC and wait for them to send it back, me phoneless the whole time.
I have yet to notice the lag issues others complain about and I don't miss the trackball or the camera flash at all.
Clockwork is getting a recovery going and Wes Garner is Deving for it.
All is well in the world of Vibrant and I have not a single regret!
Awesome welcome aboard

I too sold my n1 for the vibrant and I made agiod choice... I to like if it breaks much easier replaced...
Welcome to the Vibrant side! I'm still having a hard time selling my 3 week old Nexus One I only used it for 2 weeks worth. Never hacked or Rooted, and I have no bites. Oh well.... If I can't sell it I guess I now own 2 badass phones?

Heh, I got rid of my EVO for the Vibrant! A bit smaller screen, but SO much better! I can't wait for CM6.
Well I bought the Vibrant on day 1 of release..still have my N1, have a MyTouch Slide (my daughter is using it) and still have my G1 as well. I guess you can say I'm an Android phone collector. Whatever this "super phone" is that's rumored to be coming out in September..if its running Android I will add it to my collection as well.

+1 can't get over the speed .. and the screen is like
I still have my N1.. It is sitting in my car in my cool N1 car kit... I use it as a GPS and movie player for the kids... I am still up in the air on which phone I like better..
the Samsung because of the screen.. the N1 because of the trackball and 2.2...
I think the biggest selling points for me were:
TV out
In store customer service.
The screen.
That being said the N1 is an awesome device but right now is the time to sell it and it still have some resale. With Google Washing their hands of it, I fear what the Support will be like. I also like the dedicated GPU in the Vibrant and believe that once Wesgarner and company get CM 6 on it, it will be the fastest damn thing out there, till that dual core HTC Monster hits, anyway!
I found a brand new one on Craigslist for 300 bucks, will be picking it up tomorrow, I think I'll be keeping the Nexus S as well, unless the Nexus One just blows my mind somehow lol..
I don't think it will no true multi touch
I've never actually used a Nexus One, but am I the only one who think it's ugly as sin? I'd be turned off to it simply by aesthetics.
I've always loved the way the Nexus One looks!

i never purchased one because of that, it's hideous, and there are not enough after market full body case swaps options for it
the skins are too much work, and cost too much
I was enamored of the N1's appearance when it first came out, but not so much any more. The NS is much "sexier" in my opinion.
Why do you want an N1 now? It's over a year old in design, and has some serious hardware flaws in my opinion. The display and especially the touchscreen and capacitive buttons are all problematic in one way or another (can't see screen outdoors, can't do multitouch accurately, capacitive menu buttons misaligned.) The camera also puts a nice pink blur on every pic you take.
If you can get past those hardware flaws, it's not a bad phone otherwise. The sound quality is good on calls and the 3G speeds are really good. There's also a ton of software support with custom roms and mods and other hacks.
Surprised you could actually find one "new" this late in the game.

If its "new" probably a nexus one with an SLCD screen
from my Nexus S! hahaha i feel like the n1 is a much more solid phone. even if the processor is worse, it still feels just as snappy on cm7. the only thing that drags is that there is no true multitouch... other than that, loving trackball notifications and the solid form factor!
anyone else "upgrade" to the n1?
a year and half ago I did . Welcome to N1 its an awesome phone and since you already have CM7 on it then you're gold. Good luck w/ the device!

how bad is the wonking on cm7 nightlies?
just been reading around about wonking and i have never heard of it... i've had an xperia, desire and nexus S and never had "wonking." so just wondering about this. thanks!
Yep.. from the atrix
Well I'm using the atrix as my phone but I got a new SD card today and decided to throw the old one (the original that came with this phone) in the old n1 and decided to update this thing a few dozen new nightlies.
Wow its really weird feeling the old crappy haptic touch. This thing still holds its own tho!

I owned an ATT N1, sold it for $580 on eBay and bought a Streak, which I sold for NS to ditch ATT and then just repurchased the T-Mo N1 since they are so cheap now. N1 and NS are both nice devices for different reasons. I have CM7 on both and plan to jump between each as I feel like it. NS screen is much better to look at and touch, but there is just something about the N1 that makes me love it. Form factor and trackball alerts lead the way. I plan on keeping both and continuing to buy whatever is released under the Nexus line in the future.

the wonk has been fixed on nightly 74 and onwards. so its dead and gone! hooray.
Hmm, I was talking to a very friend (not a very nice one) and he was telling me I made a "stupid" decision upgrading from iPhone 2g to Nexus One. He said that with that kind of money, I should have simply bought a galaxy s or a g2.
This begs the question: Is the N1 slow compared to these newer phones? I mean, really, how does it compare? Can I expect to continue receive updates for the N1?
So...I've had my Nexus S 4G for 2 weeks now, and I have to say, the first few days I was having trouble justifying the off contract price of the phone, especially when my Epic was perfectly fine.....
Fast forward to the first week, I was really liking how well it fit in my pocket, not to mention the battery life stock, and the GPS lock in seconds...awesome.
I also decided to root and try CM7, and I've been running it for a week so far, and I'll say it's changed my mind, and I'm definitely keeping this phone now!
And the ONLY thing I missed from my epic was the camera button, and today fooling around with my Nexus, I found that in CM7 you can assign the volume buttons to take pictures, EFFIN AWESOME!
So, I'm in love!

So did the Sprint employees look at you funny when you bought it off contract for full retail?
I've always wondered what they think when enthusiasts come in and lay down half a grand on a phone... It's an expensive hobby.
I also came from the Epic... it's hard to tell they have the same hardware inside.
I don't see myself ever buying a non nexus device again..(here is hoping Sprint continues to play a role in the Nexus devices!!) Android is at it's best when it's running as Google intended. Not to mention the updates and development..
Anyways. Welcome glad you like it.

The sprint stores always seemed surprised. Best buy and the T-Mobile stores never blinked an eye. I've purchased 6 phones at full retail and only got an odd response once (from a Sprint employee).
Having gone from the Nexus One to this phone (and I'll buy the next Nexus phone as well) I hope it comes to Sprint. Otherwise I'll have to jump carriers again.

So I just bought the Evo Thursday unaware I can't root the phone. That was the main reason I bought it was to root it, but now it seems im screwed. I need help deciding should I get the Nexus s or keep the Evo, I did some research and the Nexus sounds great and I know it doesn't have a sd slot but it has 16gb built in. Im using a 8gb card and not planning on upgrading. So what should I do I hate a stock phone and most of my apps is for a rooted phone. What would you do?

you should wait until devs find an exploit for evo, its way better than the NS4G
You got 30 days to return it so you could wait, there are some rumors that a few devs are close to getting root on the Evo 4, or just go ahead and take it back. It's really up to you. I liked the Nexus but the fact it didn't have a removable sd card makes me not like it, maybe thats a dumb reason but thats why I didn't like it.

I have both, the NS4G is without a doubt better. There was a issue with the performance of the radio for some people, and that was a major gripe for some people that I think would stop be me from fully recommending but it's a getting updated to Android 2.3.5 with fixes to the radio on Monday.
It's waaaayyy too late to get the EVO 4G. The NS4G is half as old and the tech while slightly better/same (and in the case of the GPU, way more), will get STABLE updates through 2012 I bet. You'll feel a lot better having a NS4G late 2011 - early 2012 guaranteed.
Way better is a little bit of a stretch, but you will be better off with a ROOTED evo. But its anyone's guess when s-off will be achieved with the new h-boot so if you need to be rooted the Nexus is a good choice. I own both phones and I wouldn't keep an unrootable GB evo, no way. I got lucky and scored 2 new in the box s-off evos last weekend so my Nexus is on the nightstand till we get the ota to hopefully fix its only downfall, a horrible radio. Upside of nexus is no workarounds for GPS to work running aosp, it always works and no battery issues that I've experienced. I've tried every GPS driver and fix on my evo and android sytem just kills my battery. If I don't install maps and turn off location and GPS battery life on the evo is as good as the nexus.
Just wanted to chime in since I do own both phones. I'd get a nexus for now and if you don't like it, you will have no problems getting a mint s-off evo down the road.

Thanks for the video and reply I love what im hearing because I had a MT4g and all I used was CM7 because I cant stand sense so this is perfect for me. The only real plus I have for the EVO IMO is the screen size and camera but I dont take many pics maybe a couple a month if that so I think I will do the trade in.

Thats was a concern going in was the EVO too old to be buying
FWIW, the Nexus S line is pretty old too, but still younger than the EVO.
My vote is for the Nexus S 4G. You already said you don't like Sense. So it makes 'sense' to just get the NS4G. Like others have said, you have 30 days so you could wait and keep the EVO and hope for root if you are sold on the phones hardware.

Great idea and if/when all is fix I can root because sprint will charge me 35 extra to restock
Here's my two cents.
On topic, Nexus s.
Off topic a bit, if at all possible go with the evo 3d.
It is the 4g with more ram and processor than the nexus s and the 4g. The 4G is a year old and past its prime. The NS is 6months old and not as good as the 3d.
Back on topic for a lower price the NS4G is the way to go.

I owned two Nexus 4g phones and sold them both (returning to my Evo 4G) for the following reasons:
-radio issues = miserable battery life! No joke, 5-6 hours with moderate use. I get twice that time with the Evo 4G. (The new OTA update is supposed to help with WIFI and 4G, NOT 3G, which is where part of the problem lies.
-feels cheap! flimsy, hard, slippery plastic does not feel good in the hand.
-the screen is not better than the Evo 3D. Nexus colors are over saturated, so skin tones are RED, etc. I guess some people like that, but I prefer more accurate colors. And the screen have a green tint.
I suggest you do to a Sprint store and try them out side-by-side. That is the only way to really compare them IMO.
If the ns4g doesn't have synergy then it just isn't cool.

Do not listen to this advice. It couldn't be more bias and wrong. I would say get the nexus s if you like aosp roms. If you want sense then you will need to wait until an exploit is found for root.
