Vibrant VS Nexus - Vibrant General

Ok So I just sold my Nexus and my Vibrant got here today.
I love it. There is a lot to love about this phone.
First the screen is amazing.
I love how the phone is light yet solid.
I think what I really most about this device is that if it breaks I can take it to a store and get it replaced. With my Nexus if something went wrong, I had to send it in to HTC and wait for them to send it back, me phoneless the whole time.
I have yet to notice the lag issues others complain about and I don't miss the trackball or the camera flash at all.
Clockwork is getting a recovery going and Wes Garner is Deving for it.
All is well in the world of Vibrant and I have not a single regret!

Awesome welcome aboard

I too sold my n1 for the vibrant and I made agiod choice... I to like if it breaks much easier replaced...

Welcome to the Vibrant side! I'm still having a hard time selling my 3 week old Nexus One I only used it for 2 weeks worth. Never hacked or Rooted, and I have no bites. Oh well.... If I can't sell it I guess I now own 2 badass phones?

Heh, I got rid of my EVO for the Vibrant! A bit smaller screen, but SO much better! I can't wait for CM6.

Well I bought the Vibrant on day 1 of release..still have my N1, have a MyTouch Slide (my daughter is using it) and still have my G1 as well. I guess you can say I'm an Android phone collector. Whatever this "super phone" is that's rumored to be coming out in September..if its running Android I will add it to my collection as well.

+1 can't get over the speed .. and the screen is like

I still have my N1.. It is sitting in my car in my cool N1 car kit... I use it as a GPS and movie player for the kids... I am still up in the air on which phone I like better..
the Samsung because of the screen.. the N1 because of the trackball and 2.2...

I think the biggest selling points for me were:
TV out
In store customer service.
The screen.
That being said the N1 is an awesome device but right now is the time to sell it and it still have some resale. With Google Washing their hands of it, I fear what the Support will be like. I also like the dedicated GPU in the Vibrant and believe that once Wesgarner and company get CM 6 on it, it will be the fastest damn thing out there, till that dual core HTC Monster hits, anyway!

No going back from Nexus One

Ever since I got the Nexus One, I am unable to pick up much less use MyTouch 3G device. I enjoyed the MT 3G very much rooted with Cyanogen's Mod., but now I have to move on. The Nexus One is light years ahead that the MT 3G. Sadly it is now placed in my gear bag to collect dust with other devices. Anyone else having this experience?
nope, I ebay'd my MT3G for $295
Haha definitely, I have a G1 and mytouch on different lines and everytime I pick them up its just depressing now, gonna go down to 2 lines and give the mytouch to my roommate unless i cant talk her into a nexus one also

Holy crap! You got that much for a MT3G?!
It makes my old G1 feel like a gameboy color or something, no joke that phone was such a great device. I'm still getting used to the software keyboard but this thing is hard to put down.

yes, granted it was in mint condition, as most of my stuff is (i did sell it as used though).
I sold my myTouch 3G the Nexus One is so much better. I don't regret spending $529 now :]
sold my g1 for 200 and got the nexus im not sad at alllll lol
dang you guys are lucky I couldnt get more than $195 for my MyTouch
I picked up my G1 a few minutes ago to test something out...... and it felt so awkward and bulky and fat and slow. I doubt I can go back. I may not be 100% used to only using a vk all the time, but the phone just feels so nice compared to the G1. Just the way it felt in my hand was like damn. I love my Nexus One.

Not saying I didn't love my G1, but after using this beast for a few days it just felt so puny in my hands again.
I attempted to try T-Mo in my area to get this phone. No go for me. I can only wish and hope it goes to Sprint, as I wouldn't piss on a Verizon store if it was on fire.

Nexus S Pictures

Also coming out for T-Mobile, made by Samsung. The newest Nexus?
http://an.droid-life.com/2010/11/11/first-real-photos-of-samsung-nexus-s-appear/
what do you guys think?
I'm not a fan of Samsung, but their hardware in the Galaxy S is awesome, and with Google's vanilla.... it could be gold, pending GPS fixes and whatnot.
let me see... everything the samsung vibrant should of had but failed to include... so that 6 mos later repackage and call it nexus s? typical samsung
Anyone know the off contract price? I wonder if its going to have dev support like the nexus 1.

hmm still within my remorse period... Theres a whole lot plastic going on right there but the internals and 2.3 gingerbread is hard to pass up. That and it should be the new developer phone makes this a pretty good buy but is it worth return the G2 for?
yeah I'm wondering about that too... Nexus S or G2?
I like the internals of the Nexus S but the externals of the G2... not sure I wanna pay ~$500+ for a plastic phone
No thanks. Samsung will not receive not one penny from me.

^ yea me either,
Looks like if it fell it would burst into a ton of pieces...
And those of us that bought the Vibrant/Galaxy S hoping it would/could have been this phone...
I gave my vibrant to the wife and personally went to G2. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to get another phone, the "Nexus3" will be out and HTC will be the manufacturer.

I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola was the next Nexus's manufacturer lol
It is likely I will buy this instead of a Galaxy Tab. Anyway, I have a Vibrator, G2, and MyTouch 4G. Actually selling the G2 and keeping the other two. Why you might ask? I wanted the extra RAM in the MyTouch, G2 was a bit bulky for my tastes, although the keyboard was pretty sweet.
The truth was I needed to sell one either the Vibrator or the G2 and the G2 brought more cash so that was the one I chose to sell. Even though I much rather would have kept it instead of the Vibrant.
It's cool CM will be on MyTouch 4G soon enough!
after samsung moment, i realized never again with samsung. such beautiful phones with potentials they make, yet they fail to give a damn about their phones, also that phone does look like 1 drop results to epic destruction

with this phone you wont have to worry about samsung giving you updates, it will be like the nexus, the updates will come straight from google so all you have to worry is that the actual hardware is good, with that said, ill wait until it checks out that the hardware is in fact good and doesnt have a garbage gps and memory storage like my vibrant did
No thanks Samsung. I'm not going to support your overly corrupt company. Thanks.
Ewwww. It looks like an iphone gaxaly s mix. Ill be sticking with my g2, and the g2 will be next in line for new updates, first being nexus one

Really?
I'll go with the lack of Dev support and poor manufacturer support. Samsung is concerned with pushing new products on you, not with supporting products you have already purchased. Everyone knows the over hyped galaxy S line is still on 2.1 while everyone else is about to go to 2.3 and beyond.
If that's "FSD", then I have it too.

I have an HTC Touch I'm willing to trade.
This has been a telepathic transmission from the Outer Limits.
I actually LOVED my last Samsung.. (forget the name, it was the flat flip phone a couple yrs back)... BUT....
That being said, I actually GOT an epic the 1st week it was out... when the stores were out of the Evo's.
I played with a friends Evo and returned the Epic the next day.
It was mostly because of the "feel" of the phone. Cheap imo compared to the bulk feel of the Evo.
I'm hard on phones and the wobbly slider moved everytime I lifted it to my ear. It just felt too plastic-y to me.
The screen was def. beautiful but not worth it to be. If I watching movies or playing games, or wasn't so rough on phones I may have very well stuck with the Epic. But the Evo is for me. I think it just depends on what you are wanting out of your phone.

The Evo takes damn good pictures. So good, in fact, that I gave my camera to a friend of mine because her phone sucks at taking pictures.
As for the Epic, I still have the files to restore Epic to stock and unrooted because my friend owns an Epic and can't seem to get any decent rom installed without a plethora of instructions.
Instructions for flashing a rom on an evo:
boot into recovery
wipe all
flash rom
*flash kernel (optional)*
*flash themes (optional)*
reboot
enjoy
for like 95% of our roms and only the really experimental ones don't follow that process. The epic? you have to use odin, you have to install multiple files (like CM, but more frustrating), then you have to worry about compatibility. My friend hasn't been able to flash a stable froyo rom yet and we have stable gingerbread roms with 4g. Ridiculous.
Samsung used to build a great phone, I was a big fan of the Rant for awhile. It was heavy, durable and actually good looking. The epic looks like a slider smartphone would've looked 2 years ago. Thick, plastic, cheap feeling, light and thick. However, it is an Android phone, which makes it 100 times better than an iPhone.
I'm an Android fanboy, I'll admit it. I've used W7 and iOS and I just don't feel the power user love that I feel with an Android phone

LOVE!!!!!!

So...I've had my Nexus S 4G for 2 weeks now, and I have to say, the first few days I was having trouble justifying the off contract price of the phone, especially when my Epic was perfectly fine.....
Fast forward to the first week, I was really liking how well it fit in my pocket, not to mention the battery life stock, and the GPS lock in seconds...awesome.
I also decided to root and try CM7, and I've been running it for a week so far, and I'll say it's changed my mind, and I'm definitely keeping this phone now!
And the ONLY thing I missed from my epic was the camera button, and today fooling around with my Nexus, I found that in CM7 you can assign the volume buttons to take pictures, EFFIN AWESOME!
So, I'm in love!

So did the Sprint employees look at you funny when you bought it off contract for full retail?
I've always wondered what they think when enthusiasts come in and lay down half a grand on a phone... It's an expensive hobby.
I also came from the Epic... it's hard to tell they have the same hardware inside.
I don't see myself ever buying a non nexus device again..(here is hoping Sprint continues to play a role in the Nexus devices!!) Android is at it's best when it's running as Google intended. Not to mention the updates and development..
Anyways. Welcome glad you like it.

The sprint stores always seemed surprised. Best buy and the T-Mobile stores never blinked an eye. I've purchased 6 phones at full retail and only got an odd response once (from a Sprint employee).
Having gone from the Nexus One to this phone (and I'll buy the next Nexus phone as well) I hope it comes to Sprint. Otherwise I'll have to jump carriers again.

I use my vibrant everyday until i get my new hercules....
Still using mine, although i got a warranty exchange for a jankey usb port. what a trip it has been. went from stock eclair at release. I remember when ext2 was the shizzle. then to froyo w/o gps, then to froyo w/gps. Wow, you mean i can put a FFC in my phone! Holy crap, cm7 works now. Then 2.3 w/o gps, now 2.3.4 w/gps, ffc, ext4, streaming netflix, gtalk with video, gamehub, 10 lockscreen options, hulu, fun nordic names for my roms. will most likely stay with ol' bess for a while
Same here, got it on Juuly 16th 2010 and still using it. Great phone, well built, slim and feels like made from HQ plastic. Loved showing off the screen to droid X, iphone buddies
Sad to see a lot of devs leave. EDT also acquired G2X's. Hope they keep up the great work with Vibrant.
I use mine when I feel like flashing roms or just messing around. Since odin makes this thing pretty much unbrickable. I still love my vibrant great phone.
Sent from my Moto Atrix
i also got mine in july last year. it had almost-working gps (better than some, but not as good at my old G1). i recently called tmo and made up some bull**** excuse to get a warranty replacement and now the gps locks faster than wifes G2 (but we'll see how long that last). either way, i'm much happier now and will be able to wait for quadcore goodness (whenever that will be) or at least until my contract is up.

I have an update right now but not going to waste it on the sensation. Waiting for the hercules or maybe the nexus 2 4g. That and the hercules looks awesome.
Preordered mine, although this is my second one, first fell screen first onto a tile floor. I hope to replace it with a sgs2 or Hercules.

Still using mine. Looking to get a FFC asap. Its a great phone honestly, I dont see the need to jump ship just yet, especially with these 2.3 roms with semi working GPS coming out. As soon as my contract expires this fall, i'll be switching to a no contract plan until the Att/T-Mobile merger either happens or doesn't next year. If it does, i'll end my service plan and move over to Sprint, if it doesn't, i'll probably still end up moving to Sprint once they have their 4G LTE up.
Still have mine. Also got it the first day it came out. Ill use until I can get an SGS 2!

Still using mine, but this weekend it will be handed over to my wife as I'll be replacing it with the Sensation. The Vibrant is still a great device and is still one of the best gaming devices out there.
I think I'll wait until a new quad-core phone comes out ...
Everyday. Got mine in Sept. of 2010. GPS worked out of the box. This phone will stay close to my heart, its my first dev phone. I know a *dev* phone is like a nexus, or along the lines of, but its the first phone I dev'd on. Great phone.
