Well just to let you know its a must if your ever going to root your phone.
Download rom manager from the market. Open it up and at the top it says flash clockwork. Click that to flash it. Then scroll down and click make backup.......... That's it. But... You need to make the backup before you make any changes like deleting apps etc..

Is there an easy way to set the recovery back to stock after installing a custom recovery like ClockworkMod?
If you install ClockworkMod recovery just be aware that a lot of people have the problem that the phone will automatically boot into recovery every time you plug in the charger while it's turned off.

Factory recovery image

When I started playing with my Hero I did not know about making a recovery image. Now I want to put it completely back to stock unrooted. Would it be possible for someone to give me their factory recovery image so I can flash mine back to factory stock? Also, would that make it so the ota's would work again?

You can get the ruu from the sprint website. Just flash it and it removes your root access.

Would that also put all the factory apps back on too? I want to make it like it was just bought.

That's exactly what the RUU does. Once you do it, you can't go back, i.e., you can't nandroid back since there's no custom recovery to boot to.

This sounds exactly like what I want to do. I found the file on Sprint's sit, but the instructions are a little vague, like what mode do I put my phone in when I connect the usb? Could someone give a quick rundown of how to do it? I just want to make sure I do it right so I don't brick my phone.
Also, will this work if I already removed some of the Sprint apps?
Just plug in your phone and have it on, it doesn't matter what screen it's on our what rom or apps or anything that you have

Looks like you have the same question I asked in the Sense thread. I will hold off on flashing that rom until the question is answered. Thanks
So you did a nand backup through Clockwork right?

you could try
downloading the stock g2 rom
rename it to PC10IMG.zip
put it on the root of the sd card
Power off
hold volume down + power
flash it as you did the sense rom
My phone also screwed up when flashing the sense ROM, but I manages to nand back...

Probably your only option. The thread for this can be found here.
Most ROMs on the site right now will wipe everything on your phone. You should have made a Nandroid through Clockwork and then back it up on your computer first.
Also, wrong section! This kind of stuff belongs in the General forum.
Yeah downgrade and reflash is your only option at the moment.

Yeah thats what I thought. If you were able to do a nand back up, then all you have to do is wipe and restore to it.

I should probably check b4 posting this, but.... if you boot into recovery, can u see it there? Ill check it out. One min lol
Edit:: I was able to see my backup from within recovery directly. Boot with Vol. Down. highlight Recovery and Press Power to boot into recovery.
from there, you should see clockworks recovery, green menus. Using the vol. keys, highlight the option you want, and use the trackpad to Select, and power button as a Back button.

[Q] Bricked HTC Mytouch 4G?

First off let me start by saying I now know what i did wrong. Next is there anyway i can fix it?
I didn't backup anything and then managed to erase everything... I have CM 6 but as of now all i can get is the boot screen. I tried recovery but that won't work becasue there is no backup. also Before I erased everything i managed to turn s on so now i have no way to turn that off correct? Im basicly looking for a way to restore my phone but if it cant be done then i understand. Right now I am using a samsung vibrant with Nero v3 voodo and understand how to install custom roms now
i have almost the same problem as you I don't know what to do I've looked everywhere.

What do you mean... erase everything? How?
Possible steps:
1. factory reset from H-Boot, see if it boots up normally, then re-root.
2. Install PD15IMG from development section, look it up.
Good luck.

Which recovery did you have installed and which h-boot
Did you try seeing if you could s-off through adb? Im not sure if this will work but Download the files you need to get s-off from ur computer and put it on ur SD card via a card reader or some sort, after you get the necessary files put the SD card back into ur phone. Hook it up to ur computer and maybe you can s-off through adb if you can get ur computer to recognize ur phone. Then IF it works, download a rom via computer to it SD card and boot into recovery and flash. Let me know what happens if it works or not

Should have taken my advice from this thread.
I just went thru the same thing and couldn't restore any of the backups it just kept getting stuck on the flash screen. I downloaded the ice glacier rom on to a spare sd card and flashed it thru hboot recovery and it looks like that did the trick.
hi guys if you still cant get your phones working try mobiletechvideos.com, they fixed my phone , my phone wouldn`t do anything .good reliable service, yes its in texas.
Although you didnt create any backups, is it possible that someone can create a backup of a fresh ROM and send that to you?

Just take the SD card and put a new ROM on it. Then go to recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalkik cache.
Then install zip from sd card and find it.
I like using Royal Panache 1.3.
I think it's stock Mobilicity ROM but no stock software from carrier. Good stuff.
MIUI and Cyanogenmod 7.1 are also good candidates.
I'm currently testing out ICS and you can test it out as well (but in your case, probably try a working one first =P) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383629&page=1

Wrong, he just randomly revived a thread that last post was made in July 2011.

He revived quite a few of them, trying to market what I believe to be his product. Just look at his messages. Don't want to write the name of the product, since it appears he's scoring just for that.
I've reported his posts, but didn't see mod response yet.

Bought Evo on eBay... has s-off but recovery goes to red triangle

Ok bought an evo on eBay, after getting rid of my evo for a blackberry and realizing I made a huge mistake. It's used but like new.
I go to the boot screen and it says s-off. Then I select recovery but it goes to an evo with a red triangle.
What can I do?
Thanks

If you can acess the bootloader, I would recommend searching in the rooting wiki and look for a PCIMG file place that in the root of the sd card(hopefully your comp has a media reader) and insert the sd card with that file and the bootloader should detect when you select recovery.
What that file does is resets everything on the phone to stock. if you could find a RUU that might work but if your comp cant see the phone its useless i hope this helps

If you're s off, your rooted. The triangle means you have no recovery. All you need to do is flash a PC36IMG of recovery, using the bootloader. Once you do that, you'll have recovery, and can flash a rom of your choice. That's it. No need to re root or ruu or anything like that. Just recovery, that's it.

This would probably be the easiest thing. DL clockwork from the market and install the recovery I prefer amon_ra it will be at the bottom under alternate recoveries. Also do a nand backup as soon as you have a recovery.
I agree with above, just get rom manager from the market and flash a recovery...simple
We're comin from a pure power source.

SUre, give me one sec to upload a file for you. And as the other guys suggested, flashing a recovery using ROM manager would be your easiest bet. HOWEVER, if you dont have the SUPER USER app, (which i bet you do not), rom manager wont work. t herefore you cant flash anything with it.
So give me one sec, and i'll upload what you need to flash, with instructions for ya
EDIT: I attatched a recovery for you. It's Amon Ra V2.3. Download the PC36IMG, and leave it named exactly as it is. Place the file on the main directory (root) of your sd card. Power your phone off completely. Then boot to the bootloader by holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously. When it gets to the bootloader, after a sec it will scan for files, and find the PC36IMG. It will then ask you if you want to update, so select yes (volume UP). Once it's done flashing, it'll ask you to reboot. Select no. Then choose the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should now successfully boot into Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From that point, you can create a backup of your current setup. Then you can perform a full wipe, and then flash the rom of your choice.
And what ever you do DON'T restore a nandroid from your old phone. You will wipe out your 4g if the wimax partition is included in the nandroid.

Ok that worked. I now have Amon ra recovery
But, lol, one more question. Amon ra has changed since I've had an evo.. now when I select backup, it has a list of things I want to back up with "[x]" next to them. Which items should I select? It didn't have that feature in the past so I'm a little lost.

Right, that feature was added after version 1.8.0 (which I still use). I believe you want to check all of the boxes, for your first backup. (I'm not sure if you need to have everything checked after that, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt). I've seen people say that you only need to back up your wimax one time, then keep the file in a safe place (it's your RSA keys), however I just can't see what the problem is with backing it up each time. I kind of like the simplicity of 1.8.0, just hit backup and let it do it's thing. Whatever the heck 1.8.0 automatically backs up on its own, works perfectly fine for me, lol.
So I would just check everything off, and then let it perform the backup.
EDIT: and sorry I don't have more info on that for ya. I'm sure someone else who regulrarly uses ar 2.3 will chime in, and give you a more solid answer. I just simply don't use that recovery, as I never saw a need to 'upgrade' from 1.8.0, because it has always worked flawlessly for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd say you could use 1.8.0 if you wanted to, but I believe it won't work on the 004 hardware phones with the 0040000 size erase block.
Ok cool.
Thanks again
And yes i remember the simple way, things are supposed to get easier as time goes on, not more complicated, haha!

[Q] My phone took rom off itself

hi there i have my my touch 4g running jellybean 4.1.1 and some reason today when i went to go in the boot menu and change my splash screen it like restarted itself. Every time i try to click recovery in the boot menu it shows the pd15 files and then shows you need to update it. So basically i guess it went back to its original skin ,but still has everything. I see the s is off. Is there a way to be able to go back or do i have do the whole entire rooting process over again? I really appreciate all your help.
You need to remove the PDxx.img file from your SDcard otherwise evertime you go to the bootloader it will boot the stock ROM.

If you flashed a ROM of some sort using the PD15IMG.ZIP method (such as a stock Froyo or GB ROM), it exists in the root of your SD card (so, under /sdcard). You should see it by hooking up the phone and browsing to the top level of the card, or you could take the SD card out and examine it directly. If you don't rename if after an install, every time you try to boot the bootloader will look for it and try to reinstall it.
Whether you need to reroot again kind of depends on what the PD15IMG was. If you went back down to a stock ROM, then you would probably have to at least go through the rooting steps again (but not the S-off part).

I've only had that happen a couple of times when a ROM did not load successfully. Usually it's recoverable, but it sounds like in this case you *might* (I would ask somebody with more experience) need to reflash the CWM recovery via adb in order to get it working once again.

Yeah. The PD15IMG.zip put the stock recovery back on. Just flash the custom recovery of your choice.
