You might be better off finding the ribbon cable. Check ebay.
If you replace the screen you'll need a digitizer too for the touch.

He should be able to separate the two, that would save some money. Just re-use the digitizer with the new screen.

Did you check Ebay or Craigs list to see if anyone is selling a broken Slide? Maybe you can but one cheap for parts.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
There were a few sites that I found a few weeks back that had stock parts for almost every phone. I'll see what I can dig up and I'll update this post when I find something.

hey guys, i have a big problem. the center of my MDA's screen will not work. I noticed this while playing warfare incorporated.... I have re-flashed it and it goes to the align screen step and obviously i cant get past this point.........
Any ideas, im sure its hardware but what would make just the center die?
i was just thinking of selling my phone (work provides free crackberry) and this happens.... anyone want an MDA with a (partially) bad touchscreen?
please let me know any ideas you may have.
Thanks guys
Try this...
slide the stylus all around the edges of the screen. I dunno why, but that usually works.
It kinda sounds like your touch screen is going bad. It can be replaced, and there nt to expensive. Try ebay!
Hi Tsumi,
I am also having this issue with a UK XDA Mini S that is about 13 months old.
If I go into 'Notes' and draw Horizontal straight lines across the screen they are straight at the top and bottom but curve around the middle of the screen, very annoying. Brilliant phone apart from that.
no go
i tried the "around the screen" thing and that didnt work.... i think i may just have to sell it. I dont want to replace the screen b/c thats just more money spent on a phone im going to sell..... I hate to do it, I love this phone, it has saved me from boredom soooo many times.... (sniff) ill miss it.
Its like 14 bucks for a new digitizer. I am sure that it will be more than a 14 buck difference in sale price if you fixed it.

That is pretty dinged up. One can always buy a housing though. But the ones I have seen are pretty expensive.
Maybe somebody could get this and a housing and make a How To change housing?
yea she aint pretty but im thinking someone who needs a back up phone for testing roms and such
Wow, I thought mine was in bad shape when someone said "I didn't know those came in black..." "They don't. It's frying grease that's soaked in."
hahaha. I thought I was bad with my phone. I got pissed because I got a little scratch on the screen!
If someone does have info on changing the housing, I might be interested in picking it up. I was gonna buy it to give to my dad so he'd get off his stupid Palm Treo 680 ... but if its all banged up, I would just have to keep it to experiment with then.
Well I'm a cook at one of my jobs and I'd rather keep my wing in my pocket than in my coat or car where it could get nabbed. I guess it's the lesser of the two evils. My screen is flawless though, thank you jerito... I mean screen protectors!

So I bought a digitizer replacement kit on ebay for my N1. (I dropped it and my screen shattered.) I saw the iFixit teardown on the N1 and figured it'd be easy enough to do myself. The kit comes with tools to open it, but no adhesive to mount the new digitizer.(like the iPhone kits)
Basically I was just wondering what I should use to stick the new digitizer back in. Any advice from someone who's already done it would be great too.
Edit: Got the digitizer installed fine, phone booted, I giggled like a schoolgirl aaaand.. Couldn't unlock my phone. It wont respond to touch. Took it apart again to make sure it was connected properly... So now my only assumption is the digitizer I bought was defective.
Any help would be appreciated..
try asking the ebay seller
Thanks, I'll try that. Any other ideas?
maybe ask an electronics repair shop near you

Yep I did. I contacted the seller on eBay and waiting for a reply. Unless you guys can think of something else I did wrong in the installation I'm sticking with it being defective.
have other people replaced the digitizer successfully on the N1? or perhaps it is some software difference that the new digitizer needs to be "read" by the software, but the OS is looking for the "old" digitizer still...i'm talking out my arse BTW..

I've seen a few people posting here saying they've done it, and I know one guy took pictures of the process. I understand what you're saying and it sounds logical enough, but I can't imagine the parts would be any different to cause that sort of problem.. Assuming the part I bought is legit.
Either way the seller should let me return it if the second one they ship out doesn't work.
i replaced my screen and digitizer yesterday using ebay tutorials i found. pm me and ill share but i bet you used the same ones. its a very delicate process. sometimes you have to be tough with it but at the same time not break the little guy. the only problem i could think of would be your connection. the only thing i fudged on minr was not cleaning the lcd before placing it back in. now i have two large fingerprints in my top right under my screen when i dim it.

I cast... THREAD NECROMANCY!!!
I believe I have the correct adhesive (3M double-sided sticky tape of some small sort), but I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea on how to get the old sticky gunk off of the LCD aside from using rubbing alcohol? Thoughts? Kthxbai.
EDIT: Also, did you ever get your phone working again?
Well, I'll be getting my $100 replacement tomorrow.
I'm usually very handy with electronics, I used to take my Blackberry's apart all the time and blow the dust out.
So I read up on disassembling the EVO and thought "this is gonna be a piece of cake". Well every set of instructions I found said it was SOO easy to take it apart, what they didn't say was they were assuming you have a replacement screen ready to go and that trying to remove the screen from the bezel separated the touch input from the backside of the glass.
Maybe I did it wrong but I broke my precious and almost cried.. a little.
I no longer have any touch input on the bottom half of the screen including the 4 buttons at the bottom. And you can see from the front how it looks like a clear sticker has been pulled apart from the glass. The LCD is fine, just totally jacked up the touch input.
So the purpose of this thread is to warn anyone else who may consider disassembling their EVO to read more than I did.
It may actually be very easy to get the thing apart, getting it back together is another story
Ouch man that sucks
From the fade
Condolences for the dear departed one. A point well taken, thanks!
Although I've "played" with dismantling many electronics during my days, this is one I would not take on. I even opted for the additional cost with BestBuy for their low price replacement for our 2 Evo's.
hmmm........
Aww man so sorry for you lost. That's great you've put up this post as I was just thinking about replacing my evo casing from all the cosmetic damage I've put on it while dropping. Thanks to you my friend this make my decision much easier.
I was going to do the same thing for the same purpose. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem, MTFBWY
That sucks alot!!!
I did the same thing, wish I'd have read this post first! I had the dust in the upper left of my screen. I have taken this phone apart before, but not removed the glass. In attempting to remove the glass I messed up the upper right corner of the touch screen (just a small area but still sucks!) and now the tint of some colors is messed up. Also rashed up the plastic on the edges some. Oh and I did get the glass off just enough to spread the friggin dust all around haha. Oh well it's livable until June when I can get a full upgrade (hopefully the EVO 3D!). Let my post here serve as a SECOND warning for those who want to attempt to remove the dust themselves. The glass is glued down and you pretty much have to destroy the phone to remove it. Don't try it!!

I ordered this same part and a new housing because I cracked my digitizer earlier this week. Thanks for the post, OP, because I plan on taking mine apart this weekend to replace it. Wish me luck! lol
My screen is cracked to all hell. Is there a youtube video showing a strip down of the epic? Is there a guide on how to replace it? I have the lcd and ditizer,so I'm all set except for the actual replacement. LOL

would you mind sharing the source for the screen/digitizer for those that haven't broken their screens yet ?

You sure you got the right screen? Epic uses SAMOLED, not LCD... also, the digitizer and the LEDs are part of the same construct (one of the reasons it's "super"), so you'd effectively be really just changing the display with integrated digitizer. The glass itself is glued to the plastic case. You'd need to find a way to pull it up, from what I can tell. (I have not ever taken one apart, but it is almost certain that it is a glued screen, which explains why some people are having peeling issues (my Evo had this.))
There is not much for the Epic but some info for the original Galaxy S

yea i was just saying "lcd" i got the right one i know
taking a look at the links below
ok well by the looks of it, its pretty much the same thing. i talked to a tech at a repair center, and he said he MIGHT be able to do it. if not, i think i probably have about 70% chance of getting it right. the video showed a break down right down to the digitizer, and it looks almost EXACTLY like that i have, so in theory, i should just have to go as far as gettting the back off, and putting the back BACK on the NEW digitizer/amoleisupmyassed, right?
also, just for clarification, i know i have the right one bcuz i can see the button whole thingies and its the same as what the epic has (menu, home, back, search)
thanks for the useful links& help guys

I've watched a video for another galaxy phone ... the reason I'm nervous about this one is because on the Epic the screen is on a separate part of the assembly because of the keyboard.
Also: The video shows how to take it apart .. but not how to put it together again. Do I need to glue it together again? What type of glue?

No even though Sprint has it in their system as marked "bad esn" samsung will not have to do with this. Although I don't think Samsungs warranty covers accidents, such as dropping your phone and cracking the screen.
Hope you get it figured out!

Well Samsung has their own warranty thing...but I would confirm by contacting Samsung..don't tell them you swapped networks or anything of course..otherwise I don't think they would bother to check...
You can always flash it back too..unless phone doesnt work completely?
I got the whole screen + keyboard for under $60 on ebay. It turned out to be as simple as unscrewing and unsnapping the cover, disconnecting three connectors, removing the electronics and putting them in to the new frame. If I'd have to do it again it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
