Hi everybody. I got this new myTouch 4G by T-Mobile, and when I connect it to my PC, nothing happens. I went into "Settings" and then into "Connect to PC" and chose every setting one by one, but nothing. My comp doesn't recognize it. There has to be a pretty easy fix for this, what is it?
P.S. It has a light on it, just as it's charging, and it is charging, but my PC doesn't see it connected.
Thanx for the help!!

Download the "USB Tethering Driver" here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-4g/downloads/
While it says it's for USB tethering, it's basically just a generic driver to get Windows to recognize your phone. There's also a copy on your SD card.

Hm, what version of Windows do you have running? Is Autorun(on Windows) turned off? What happens when you pull down the tab on your phone, and hit "Mount SD card for storage" or something similiar?
EDIT: Scratch the Mount SD thing. I forget that mySense doesn't have that option like that.

This is Windows Vista, Autorun needs to pop up so I would be able to turn it off, and it never did. And there is nothing to pull down on the device. I know what you are talking about, but I don't see anything appear; only that light comes on orange. My pc doesn't even see it in my Device Manager. But the light does light up on the device just as if I connect it to a charger.

Wow, if you don't even see it in Device Manager that's beyond strange. o_o On my first phone, I connected it to my computer and it instantly recognized it. On the second device, I had to go to the link I provided to you and then guide Device Manager there for it to work.
I think someone more technical savvy will have to help you, mate. Sorry.

My PC is supposed to make a sound when there is something being connected to it, but nothing. I went thru all 3 settings in "Connect to PC"; I restarted my device after each, but nothing. My Device Manger doesn't refresh when I connect/disconnect the device. What could this be? Anybody has any ideas?? Thanx for your help!!
Out of continuing pondering on your issue, what happens if you connect your phone to a different USB port? Still nothing? Does anything at all show up as "?" or unknown on Device Manager. It might be listed as a "mass storage device" and you'll need to direct it manually to the driver location.
Racking my brain for ya!

What connection mode does your phone default to? Check under Settings -> PC Connection (IIRC, phone not in hand ATM) and make sure it's not disabled. I think there is USB Storage Device, Charge Only, or Disabled. It will set the default of how the phone acts when plugged in to a PC.
You will need to test it on another pc or with another cable if possible. That would be the best way to find out what is causing the problem.

I had tried that. On my HTC I went in to the connection settings, and I tried every single one there. "Charge Only", "Disk Drive", "USB Tethering". The best I get, is when I select "Disk Drive" I have my MicroSD card to show up as "Removable Disk" in my Windows Explorer. HMMMMMMMMMMM.........

I have turned on usb debugging and I have tried changing the usb settings and neither my phone nor my sdcard will mount. The "Usb Connected" notification appears and when I click mount nothing happens. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried just about everything. It mounts just fine on Windows but not on my mac.
I've got it rooted so if there is a way to manually mount it in terminal emu I could try that.
Any solutions? Or do I need a new phone?
I've also tried 2 different cables. Both of which work fine with other devices

Thanks for the replies. It works flawlessly in my brother's mac but not at all in mine. It shows up in system profiler and usb prober but not in disk utility. I have no clue what to do
Check your log and see if it was a driver issue.
Nothing even shows up in the log when I connect it. It's like it's not even happening. Yet it clearly shows in system profiler and usb prober and my phone prompts me for usb storage

I am having this same issue. When I plugged in my Vibrant I used to get a network adapter found and I would click cancel and all would work. One time I clicked to configure it an since then I cannot mount the file system anymore. I removed the network adapter in Network preferences and I still cannot mount the disks. I also cannot adb into the Vibrant either.
This works on all the other Macs in my house as long as I click Cancel to the network adapter found dialog.

I have searched and searched and I still cannot find a solution for this. I have 3 Macs and on two of them I have no problems connecting to the SD cards or using adb. On the 3rd one it was working fine until I pressed to open network connections when I plugged it in. From then on it stopped connecting to the SD cards even with debugging on.
Does anyone have a possible solution to this?
Thanks!

Please tell me you're a troll.
I'm having the same problem exactly as described. Used to connect just fine, but got the new network adapter message every time I connected. Removed the entry in Network Prefs so that message would stop, and now can't connect anymore.
Any ideas? Anyone? This is really frustrating. Now I can't change the music on my phone, nor update to Froyo.
Thanks.
I know that other people are having similar problems with Android phones, but I just got a Wildfire today and it doesn't get detected.
I have Windows 7 x86, HTC Sync 3.0.5422. I am running HTC Sync as administrator with disabled AV and Firewall. I am using the back USB ports. I don't see any other options in HTCSync than Help and About. HTC is appearing in Devices and Printers normally.
It also comes in Device Manager under
- Disk Drives as HTC Android Phone USB Devices
- portable Devices as D:\ (next free letter drive)
Anyone has any ideas?
Thanks
When you first connect your phone to the computer, make sure that you enabled "usb debugging". Once this is done, you should not have any more problems.
To activate usb debugging, just go settings -> applications > usb debugging.
Hope this helps.

Works fine for me on 7 x64.
I did install the drivers from the SD card earlier though for development.
I had similar problems - which all disappeared when I used a different usb port. The one's at the front of my PC just didn't work. Ones at the back worked fine.

I know it should work. but I can't find out what exactly is causing this behavior - and that sickens me Cause usually I get everything to work =]
I did uninstall everything that had to do with HTC. Sync App, Drivers, everything. Rebooted and tried from scratch.
I saw that Windows Update automatically downloads drivers for the Wildfire as soon as it detects it on USB. I had no chance to abort that so that I could install the Stock HTC drivers that came on the SD Card.
As soon as Windows said the device should be ready to use, I installed Sync again and tested if sync was working. Didn't work. Then I installed HTC drivers from SD Card. Tried if it works. Nothing. Rebooted. Tried Again. Nothing. USB Debugging on. Nothing. USB Debugging off. Nothing ... I don't know any further
Skye do you have installed the HBOOT driver from unrevoked along with the HTC drivers? Could it be possible that they both interfere somehow? Or is this not possible at all.
I don't use the HBOOT drivers since I don't have my device rooted.I can see that it could have an effect.
I'll check the device name, hardware id and driver version for the ADB tomorrow and we shall compare it with yours.
i had same problem, turned out it is firewall blocking (least for me), disabled security suite and all works fine. i had f-secure internet security

Change USB "Charge Only" to USB "HTC Sync"
I have a super simple solution to try that worked for me.
When getting the HTC Sync "no device connected" error message, you must change the phone's USB setting from "charge only" to "HTC Sync", if it's not already done.
I noticed that my "notifications panel" at the top of the screen said "Charge Only" next to a USB symbol.
To make this change on the T-Mobile MyTouch 3g Slide, I opened the notifications panel (with your finger, pull down the bar at the top of the screen). Then, I clicked on USB "Charge only" bullet and changed it to "HTC Sync". Voila, the next time I plugged in my phone, HTC Sync recognized it, the phone app of HTC Sync found the HTC Sync on my computer, and gave me options for syncing.
I didn't need to uninstall or reinstall HTC Sync, move drivers, use msconfig to prevent programs from starting up, etc.

I have the HTC Merge from U.S. Cellular. I had used HTC Sync without too many problems when I was on XP until the last update. That always connected but would not sync, giving me an error every time [1000 general error]. The fix was to re-install the version before, and don't upgrade even when you get a notice that an upgrade is available.
As soon as I moved to Windows 7, and used the same process, Sync on my PC would flash on, then show disconnected, and then minimize. The icon in the system tray showed a connection, and my phone shows a connection. But there is no way that I have found to get the main window open on the PC, and set the options for what I want to sync!
HTC has been no help at all.
Has anyone found a way to view the Sync software screen on the PC after moving to Windows 7... or 8?
Crossing my fingers - hoping there's a solution!

Joe,
I gave these a try, and I still have the same issue. HTC Sync loads for a second, then flashes "No device connected" and disappears. The icon in the system tray shows a connection, and I can tell the phone to sync, but after checking my calendar for a test appointment that I changed, nothing changed on the phone. Since HTC Sync won't open, I can't adjust the settings to make sure it is set up correctly.
Very frustrating! Wish they would update their software!
I'm still running WindowsMobile until I feel confident that all will work with Android. I just plugged the phone into my computer with Android running for the first time. I got a message asking me to install the ADB driver. Being afraid it'll screw up my ActiveSync connection in WM, I canceled the driver install. 2 questions:
1. Will ADB and WM AS play nice with each other?
2. Will Windows install the driver automatically, or do I have to find the drivers and download them?
Thanks in advance.

dont worry about ADB thats mainly for debugging (i'm no expert but in laymans terms thats what it's for) if you change the Android usb connection to USB drive (or something like that) it will connect as a usb stick...
oh and the installation wont screw up with WM activesync... as your PCwould treat your "windows mobile" phone and "android" phone as 2 completely different devices.

usb tethering is to share your phone's internet connection with you pc/laptop/mothership
Internet PAss Through allows you to connect to the pc's internet connection from the phone (opposite of usb tethering essentially)

I'm looking for this driver..
My computer cant find it and i want to have access to internet passthrough function!
How can i install that driver?
So basically. before I would plug my phone into usb and it would give me a couple of options. But now it plugs in, computer says "di dong" and the phone shows as charging.
But the phone doesn't ask for option, nor can I find a way to manually prompt it to.
help! (needed desperately for internet tethering)
had the same issue a couple of times
what i did was just unplug it again, wait a minute and plug it back in. The second time i would get the notification.
Maybe you havt to try another USB port on your PC.
Had the same problem.
Switched it off and on again. -> problem fixed
When plugging in your phone into usb, just go to settings-->Applications-->Development and check the USB debugging(uncheck and check it back it is already markeck).

If you can't mount SD Card and your pc doesn't recognise it then Your USB is bricked. There is a tutorial on the forums that will help you with that
Counterintuitively, the setting you're looking for is under Wireless and Network. Go to USB Connection and set it back to "Ask on connection."
this may be the cable error .change other one try again.

I tried turning USB debugging on and connecting and nothing. I tried turning it off and nothing. I went to Motorola's site and downloaded their moto helper and nothing. I tried all of the USB ports on my computer and nothing. I tried going into the device manager and updating the drivers and nothing. My husband plugs it into his netbook that has Win 7 and it installs everything in seconds. What else can I do?

Upgrade to Windows 7! Seriously, Vista is horrible. Try removing the MTP device from device manager with the Xoom not plugged in. Reboot and try again. If that fails, when you double click the MTP device in Device Manager, does it show an error or anything?
I have encountered the exact same problem.
Will not for the life of me connect to my Vista Laptop.
Connects in 10 seconds flat to my Windows 7 desktop the first time i tried.
I've been porting everything I want to put on my Xoom to my Desktop.
I tried lots, wish there was more I could say. But Motodrivers didn't help me any either.
Also when it connects to my Windows 7 comp, it will not install MZ600, but works fine for file transfers. I don't know what that driver does, but i know it won't install.
I have a lot of issues with my Vista though, it won't install my digital camera, the digitial camera drives from my iphone, and its sd card reader stopped working.
But, all I can say is port port port.
I found this using a Google search for other devices that use MTP on Vista with problems. May work for you:
1) Go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...60-E862-4F19-BB26-C0CAFE798955&displaylang=en
2) Press the Continue button (Near the Validation Required)
3) Press the Download button (Near the genuine Microsoft software)
4) In case that the download hasn't started automatically within 30 seconds, press the Start Download button.
5) Save the file to your Desktop where you can easily find it.
6) Execute the file (Double click on the mouse's left button).
7) Next -> Repair -> Repair -> Finish -> Choose "Yes" so the system restarts itself.
Let me know if this works so I can add it to my FAQ list.
I will try that when i get back home and let you know. Thanks for all of your help! I am leaning towards upgrading to Windows 7 if that doesn't work. I need to be able to use my laptop with my xoom.
Oh and I don't get any error messages when I go to device manager. It just tells me all drivers are up to date. If my laptop had a face I would punch it in it...

You will be happier with Windows 7 regardless. But do keep us updated.
EDIT: Try this if everything else fails: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...vers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers?pubid=987654
I tried both things and it is still a no go. I guess upgrading to Windows 7 is my only option at this point.
When you go to device manager and get no error message, did you go near the bottom and expand usb devices to see if there is a yellow exclamation mark? What i do is go to device manager and have the device plugged in already. If the device isnt obvious i unplug it while watching device manager to see if something drops from the list and then plug it back in to see it reappear. If that doesnt work i recall vista having a "broken" usb driver that was fixed with sp1 or manually replacing it. I will see if i can dig it up
I go down to portable devices under device manager and see the MTP device with the exclamation point. I try right clicking and updating the driver and it tells me the driver is up to date. I try uninstalling and then plugging back in. I get the same fail message when it tries to install the drivers. It does the same thing with all three usb ports on my laptop.

I click on the check for solutions and it doesn't do anything at all.

You did try this?

Outside of that, I have no other suggestions other than upgrading to Windows 7 or google your issue.

I don't know if this will help...
but go to Start-> run -> type cmd -> hit enter
type this in... Net localgroup Administrators local service /add
hit enter.
Reboot and try plugging it in again/uninstalling re-installing the device.
Yeah, I tried that. This is frustrating but I guess I will be upgrading.
I appreciate everyone's help!

I hadn't tried this but when I entered that I got that access is denied.
Just for fun I tried the live chat with Motorola. After trying all of the stuff I had already tried I was told I would need to talk to a level two Rep tomorrow. Sigh. Vista is irritating.

I may have skipped a step. When you search for 'cmd' in the start menu, right click on cmd and hit run as administrator first.
This is the only solution I've found on the web so far where people say it works!

Still a no go. It did the same thing and advise the MTP driver failed.
