[How to] Flash to Rogers x10a 2.1 firmware - XPERIA X10 General

i'm posting this thread because i had an x10a from rogers with generic x10a firmware and seus said that the phone was up to date. so i found a way to update it and wanted to share.
downloda this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9200597&postcount=22
extract
run x10flash.bat
follow instructions in the command promt (yes it does take a while for it to flash)
i hope this went as easy for you guys as it did for me.

thanks
why is rogers always late on updates

Because they lick hot chode! lol
So this works for updating the phone from the generic Nordic 2.1 to Rogers 2.1?
I assume you have to shut down, hold back button, turn on and wait for solid green light, and then hit a key on the keyboard to initiate the update?
Cheers man

Just wondering... if i already have nordic 2.1 working great on my rogers x10a, is there a point to flashing rogers 2.1? Is performance better or something?

Yes, Nordic is X10i while Rogers is X10a, with X10i on an X10a you might encounter a few problems (I had very poor battery life on mine for example) and you cannot update with SEUS later.
However, you can also flash a generic X10a version like Brazil or Latin America, if you prefer.

The file for X10Flash-2.1_Rogers seems to be down.
If any mirrors are set up post to to the world.
Cheers!

yup, file still unavailable

just found this
http://hotfile.com/dl/82541190/a311684/X10Flash-2.1_Rogers.rar.html

File size is considerably smaller than the global generic... wonder why?

just to add some confidence to this idea: i just flashed from global generic to rogers branded using this method without clearing user data. worked perfectly. now it tells me i have an x10a again and its just like i had it on global generic with no effort. of course do this at your own risk but 2.1 to 2.1 should be nearly harmless. i just had to re-root and i'm good again.

I think it depends on each user's experience. I have a north american x10 now running global 2.1rooted and having absolutely no problems.
Now having said that, I've already posted a thread asking if there's a benefit for me to switch back to rogers 2.1 and the biggest and the only (imo) benefit is so you don't void your warranty

There won't be any difference. I am running Global as well with good battery life and JIT enabled on Rogers. No problem here too. Phone is running smooth.
If you want your phone to say X10a instead of "i", just edit the default.prop file like I did and now it will read as an X10a running the global firmware.

How exactly do we flash this? Do we do it like Nordic's 2.1 FW where we put the .sin files into the firmware folders? And what are the miniloader.sin, update.xml, and simlock.ta files?
Does this mean that SEUS will be able to check for future Rogers updates once I flash to this firmware?

This file actually comes with the flash tool in it, all ready to go. So all you do is start up the batch file and follow the directions. I did it yesterday and it works beautifully.

I've also uploaded a flash kit that contains all FOUR firmwares:
v1.6a (X10a, North America, Rogers, R1FA014)
v1.6i (X10i, Generic international, R1FA016)
v2.1a (X10a, North America, Rogers, 2010-11-13, 2.0.A.0.504)
v2.1i (X10i, Generic international, 2010-11-02, 2.0.A.0.504)

Just wanted to add to the conversation. I've been running the Nordic 2.1 on my Roger's 10a (flashed over the stock 1.6) for nearly a week. I kept it bone stock for several days in order to get a feel for any differences in performance. I didn't run any actual perf tests, but I do think its much smoother and snappier, and have had zero negative effects. No bugs, no crashes, etc.
Reflashing with the Rogers 10a rom will just reintroduce Roger's branding, so I'm going to give that a pass.

Still on 020 in uk? Stopped getting updates after rooting?

Just wondering as others got 026 other day. Im on orange but dont yhink the phone is branded to them it was from a 3rd party store not sure what the sigs are but I dont have any orange branded apps on the phone. Not had any updates since 020 would annoy me if 2.1 came and I couldnt pick it up lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well if that happened then you could just debrand.
My phone is rooted and I still get updates though.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Got bad news im afraid the phone is branded just secretly, the traffic TV app is exclusive to orange
to debrand i suggest you download http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NPNW099K that, follow the instructions to install the 026 firmware, that what i did and i believe it is now debranded, it also roots, etc.
vengeance
I'd follow steps 1-5 HERE to debrand, then run SEUS to get 026.
I rooted and debranded, so I could get 020 generic months ago, but I got an OTA prompt to say an update was available yesterday and to update via. SEUS. Haven't done so as I don't want to brick my phone, so am considering my options, whether or not it would be safer to flash my old O2 016 files, and then try to run the update. Even that could go wrong though,so maybe I should just take the risk. but dont want to brick my phone
I take it debranding is the obly way to get 2.1 on release for me then? Is there a chance of recovery if i brickit lol used ti flash alit of custom roms on winmo but still quite new to android

The chance of bricking it is next to none so wouldn't worry about it.
first of all, is it branded? if so maybe is your carrier if not then you just screwed it XD

[Q] Confused about debranding [SOLVED]

Hey folks, let me start by saying that I have searched and read threads on this subject, but alas I just did not understand them.
So please, if somone wouldn't mind answering my questions with simple answers, I'd really appreciate it.
Firstly, a while back I 'rooted' my phone with the 'Exploid One Click .apk Root (Latest v.1.08 30 Aug. 2010)' method and all was well.
However I ran the update service on my pc recently (looking for 2.1 DOH!) and it gave me an update...which left my phone unrooted but with the latest 'RBA026' build number. I panicked and just did the exploid root method again and restored my phone with titanium backup.
So my first question is, is the firmware I have now unbranded/generic or does the root effect the firmware?
If it is not unbranded/generic, which is the easiest method to achieve this?
And, lastly if I have an unbranded/generic firmware..can I still get the 2.1 update with SEUS? (if not how would I get it)
I understand this will probably frustrate some people as all the information is probably already contained in the forum..but like I said I just couldn't get my head round it.
I'd really appreciate any help that anyone could give.
Regards
TD
EDIT: BTW this is the info on my 'About Phone' screen:

Thanks for the quick reply!
WOW ddn't even know I could do that...lol
The screen shows the following:
Model - x10i
Country - UK
Brand - Customized
Thats what I have and yes its generic. In theory our handsets will be one of the first to get the 2.1 update
We'll need to re-root obviously though.
Oh and updating through SEUS will work fine also!

Since the topic is already here.. I just wanna know if my phone is branded or not (didn't find a SINGLE topic explaining what means what)
So:
Model: x10i
Country: Central Europe 3
Brand: Customized CE3
IMO that shouldn't be branded, should it?
Are you on R2BA026? I would expect that to be generic yes.
I debranded mine some time back, this is what mine is showing
(FW version is R2BA026 GENERIC)
Model: x10i
Country: Generic GLOBAL
Brand: Generic
Mine shows,
Country uk
Brand 3
Will I get update first like other uk ones?

Grrr. I have had my ATT X10a rooted for a while, and SEUS/PC Companion/Update always says I have the latest firmware.
It's been 30 days for me, I want to put in generic X10a NAM firmware so I don't have to deal with any changes SE/ATT may have made to make it harder to root/debrand.
I've dealt with Davinci in the past to debrand my SE Java based phones, just never with an android phone. I've gone over the threads here, but 99% deal with X10i and X10a Rogers and X10a AT&T firmware seems to be a bit different and forced the SEUS update that prevents the substitute files exploit.
Even the substitute files exploit seems to require that you actually update date twice, once with the 'current' firmware that you got, and then again with the swapped two files.
The Rooting scheme that is often pointed to, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717949 is confusing for X10a. I've downloaded the files mentioned, and the extra x10a files. But to me, the flash rom is in the X10i download and there is what looks like a partial flash in the step4cmd in the the fixes something and makes it a x10a? Is this correct? The only X10a/i difference is the 10K file?
I wish someone would rewrite the directions specifically for the "I" and "A" versions so there is no confusing language like, '#5 do Step 4' and there was only a single flash required. (I particularly find this funny since step 4 and 5 were eliminated for the "I" version.)
Whatever happened to the "update" file on the SD card method? There was a CRC error problem? I wish I could find a NAM rom that just had to wrapped/renamed to Update and put on the SD card. Reboot, wait a bit and you're gold.
yeah. i just did. i posted because i followed that guide, and now on 026. it's pretty easy. just make sure to look thru the troubleshooting threads listed in that post for help.

All languages is included in all firmwares. So you won't lose your language. As for SEUS and FlashTool they work equally simple in my opinion.

i understand both methods are just a matter of following the algorithm that we're given
but my belief is that if i'm doing something OEM, then i'm better off doing it using the original OEM software (well in that case i would use the flashtool to mod my phone. not saying that it's not a gd piece of software and in fact, it is really awesome. but i just don't feel safe enough to flash roms into the machine)

Official 2.2.2 UK SBF

So... I've been busy this morning and have a positive thing to share with you: the official 2.2.2 UK SBF, straight from the rsdsecure servers from Motorola!
Right now I haven't tested it, because my Milestone 2 is backing up everything. I suggest you do it too, if you want to flash this SBF.
Also: make sure you have an 2.2 SBF ready, in case things mess up - http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
Links for the DE and Argentina version are also found there.
Well, let's start with some Hash tags:
MD5: ac65e0b74eb551e030f42adfca1eef7f
SHA1: 9541f1be95a4d4944b6e0068fd192c3ec66958ad
CRC32: C48789C2
And the link: http://www.multiupload.com/JJGBOQFM7E
Don't hesitate to discuss this ROM. And please don't come asking for ROM's for other countries. I think the most important ones are available now.
Oh, and if your phone bricks. I didn't force you to install the SBF.
do you know what the build number is?
Android version is 2.2.2
Build number is MILS2_U6_2.4.24
As of now I've been unable to root this version.
Edit: You can get root with SuperOneCLick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

so it's the same as o2de version, isn't it? btw, movistar's build number is 3.23.0. wonder which one is better, hmm
The Movistar uses different GSM/WCDMA frequencies. It might not work in European/Asian countries, not to forget that it'll probably doesn't support your locale.
If you check the Milestone 1 SBF's, you'll notice the Argentina SBF's all have a different build number.
Anyhow, you can test it out yourself, nobody's keeping you from it

It's amazing to heard this, but, is this meaning that 2.3 will not coming soon?
And, Is there any highlight in this 2.2.2 UK SBF?
Thank you.
Hate to bring it, but I don't believe Gingerbread is coming to the Milestone 2. I believe this is the update Motorola was talking about.
This version was created on 02/23/2011 and still isn't officially distributed. So... 1+1=2
well, i think you people could be more optimistic.
2.3 may still come to us. i think they release 2.2.2 because they have no reason to keep working on it. i think that reason is 2.3.
well, who knows. just be patient.
if you ask me what i'm really expecting, that will be a custom rom based on uk rom. (since my sim card doesn't work with Brazil SBF) Meanwhile, Motorola won't give us a de-blured, customized, and tweaked rom.
Is this rom a RC or beta version? If it's a RC, I really would like to flash it right away. I already had my rom backed up just now.

You could try out uk roms. I brought my mm2 in HK, and since the first day I have been using the UK rom.
There are few small changes, that I've noticed:
Obviously the keyboard. The Euro and Pound sign both work
The signal strenght is shown correctly (@HSPA it would only show 5 bars when the connection was that strong, otherwise there where only 4, while @2G there where always 5)
(HE-)AAC Tags seem to be read correctly
Data manager can now create a buffer with data intensive tasks; it will execute those when connected to WiFi or something like that
It's possible to see how much data you've used

More than that, it's an improved camera application. Autofocus on both still and HD as well as Face Recognition in the movie mode.
I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks, face detection in movie mode would be interesting to have.... I've downloaded the tft, I'm considering it, since it's definatly rootable....
I just have to remember to restore my TiBackup as USER Apps and Sysdata....
Is the multi touch just dual touch or have they actually incorporated more than two fingers?
And can someone upload the new camera and multi touch apps.
thanks.
Wait, so the att version has more features? And is it as smooth as 2.1.B.01 or laggy?

Did anyone else lose "H" or HSPA mobile data, and go back to 3G max?
How about enabling "unknown sources" for apps? Even after rooting, I cannot install Root Explorer or Titanium Backup!

You need to restart your phone after rooting if I remember correctly and install busybox from market. You can enable Unknown sources from SuperOneClick.
I just flashed the 2.1.65 BB from the AT&T FW. I used it for like 30 mins and did not notice anything different. I went back to the 2.1.54 FW of the X10a generic kit. My concern was that after you flash the 2.1.65 BB from the AT&T FW, in the hidden menu, under software version, the phone is identified as an ATT -user and NOT GENERIC - user. This may be a problem when 2.3 is released since it will only be available for generic kits. Anyway, I am back on 2.1.54 BB from the .435 generic kit.
Although I appreciate AT&T finally releasing their build of 2.1 for the X10A, I'll stick with the Sony Ericsson generic world 2.1 release instead.
For those going with AT&T's version, remember that you'll end up getting:
AT&T bloatware (removable after rooting)
Unknown Sources in Settings > Applications removed (can be enabled after rooting - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9588447&postcount=3 )
Data locked to '3G' (you'd lose the 'H' data connection, where available)
AT&T branding (you'd never get access to Sony Ericsson's upcoming Android 2.3 update for the X10)
Is the new AT&T 2.1 build that much better than the generic one? Face recognition in video recording mode...is that really a handy feature? Is it better on the battery? Is the touch screen smoother? Reception better? We need more AT&T X10 users to chime in.
