hey guys and maybe gals
first when the DHD got released they explained the low battery (1230 mAh) is that the new processor doesn't need that much of battery, then the MyTouch4G got released with the same processor and the same amount of ram, smaller screen. and all of that with more battery, so can some1 explain why i'm confused? lol
becouse they (HTC) dont want to release the perfect phone becouse then every one would be happy en wouldnt buy new phones
If you think that battery life is the most important thing in a mobile, take a backpack put a car battery inside, stabilize the output at 5V, plug it in the usb port and your phone will last for months with one charge .
In the design process of every device there are a number of compromises and in the end you get a balanced product. You can't have both light, small and lasting a week. The DHD is on the edge of being both light and "small", so I presume that's the most juice HTC could put in it. And of course they want us to buy new phones

I've seen posts about it, but have yet to find a thread addressing it. I have been doing Forum and Google searches but have found nothing.
So what is the deal? I have an Andida battery that was great with Win Mo, but I'm convinced it causes problems in Android due to trial and error testing.
I start with a fresh build with the stock HTC battery and it rules. Then I run out of juice and switch to the after market and I lose data connection, wake up lag, and other wierdness.
I've also done fresh installs with a task29 and low level format of the sd card , using a fresh data image and if I do the same with the After Market and the Stock, the build used with the stock battery works and the same build with the After Market has problems right away.
Anyone having the same experience as me? Anyone know what the deal is?
I just purchased a spare OEM battery for 11 bucks off of ebay/USA seller. Hope it's the real deal.
***MOD PLEASE MOVE THIS TO THE HD2 ANDROID GENERAL DISCUSSION FORUM. MY BAD!***
I have found this same problem. I also have an andida battery that was awesome in winmo but sucks in android. I now use the stock battery first and the andida only when the stock dies. It used to be vice versa.
I have a andia battery and a extend battery , and both of them work fine

And this is why I need to know what's up. Doesn't seem likely to me that a battery can make a difference, but it certainly does on my phone.
is it possible that its just a faulty battery?
Or a whole bunch of faulty cheap batteries that have poorly regulated power?
I have a 2400mAh "Replacement For Touch HD 2" battery that gives my phone a hump, I got it for 12 bucks off ebay and it works great in winmo and android... my phone suffers from android sleep of death with both oem and third party batteries that I have though I think this is a mem card issue though.
I bought my HD2 used and the battery doesn't really get me through the whole school day, (8-4:30ish) even if I don't really do anything on it, it drains pretty quickly. I've conditioned it and everything, but I think the best things to do would be to buy a new battery.
I'd like to buy from eBay or a reputable online retailer.
Does anyone have any great stories with any batteries?
Make sure out have the apps Juice Defender Pro, Screebl, and SetCpu (with a profile to run the processor at the minimum when screen is off). With these, plus official extended battery, I get between 24 and 36 hours on my HD2.

I use Typhoon CM7 NAND Android on my HD2 and I get easily through 2.5-3 days with moderate use (WiFi included) - my avg stand by is 2-3mA but sometimes it even goes to 1mA (rarely but it does).
You shld get rid of wm if you have it and make your HD2 worth it!!!!
I bought a battery which shoul have 1600 mAh but so big like the normal HTC battery with 1230 mAh.
I didn't feel that I had more capacity, it didin't hold longer than with the normal one.
So i bought the original HTC HD2 Power Battery with 2400mAh and it was awesome. I could easy work with the phone for 2 days without loading and i make a lot with it.
The disadvantage of the Power Battery is that its nearly twice as big as with the normal, but i love it to work with the phone without looking on the battery percentage
If want long work time and size does not matter - original with 2400mAh. And no "chinese" batteries with increased capacity.
dot bother with the ecell battery its a waste of time

I'm not doubting that that's an excellent battery, but when you got the 0mA reading you appeared to be charging the phone and 2 days isn't really that hard to manage if you only use the phone moderately. Also don't forget that the ROM itself will have some effect on the results.
you can buy several backup batteries for emergency
hey guyz
i bought this battery from ebay with 2600 mah
is it fake???
and if it isn't how could i calibrate it (am using android from nand)
sorry for my bad english
I wouldn't know if it really has 2600 mAh of capacity,
but you can calibrate it with the battery calibration app, just follow the directions in the app.
Then use your phone and see if it's an improvement over your regular battery!
It shouldn't be fake. I've seen other posts with these batteries. I do not know how well they work or anything, but its real.
fake as fake can be...
there are many fake batteries on the market, fake meaning not OEM, meaning not checked by HTC -this does not mean that they don't work, just that there is no official support for them.
one thing though - that looks like a massive battery to attach to a sleek hd2, it doesn't look like it would be comfortable to carry around or even hold!!!
in general don't worry about using non OEM parts, they work as well and sometimes better than the originals, plus most are made in the same factory as the "real" one.
Don't Buy It!!!!
It works but it sucks,
I have 3, two are OEM, original by HTC
the other was cheaper but sucks,
If you charge it and leave it say by 2 days with out being used, it just doesn't work, I have to put it to charge for it to like "wake up it up" and then it works.
My HD2 usb port is broken, so I use a independent battery charger...
I made a huge mistake: my external battery (24v a/c adapter) has the same plug size as the Shift a/c adapter (12v). In a tangle of wires, I plugged the 24v adapter into the Shift.
On battery, the machine still works. But the machine won't recognize when it's on a/c.
My amateur guess is that the Shift has some kind of trip (if I'm lucky) or I fried something at the a/c entry (if I'm unlucky).
I've looked at the various disassembles, but I haven't found one that addresses the a/c specifically.
(I took it to a computer shop and they won't touch it)
Any advice, or even a computer shop that can do the work, would be much appreciated.

Hey man
Im sorry to hear that...
I did some searching for you and came to sorta the same thing : http://www.doityourself.com/forum/e...-24v-power-adapter-into-12v-device-kaput.html
They didnt have a good ending.
But dont you have some kind of electrical shop in your area?
Like here in my area we have a electronics store. I goto them alot of times for small repairs. They do PCB's and such. And solder as well. and sell like disco lighting and that kinda stuff.
Hi, and thanks for the link. When I brought the Shift to the local computer store, the owner said, "It can't be fixed without the parts and other places will just charge a diagnostic fee, then tell you the same thing."
On the other hand, he doesn't know the Shift's innards. He kept referring to the motherboard, which to my novice eye, appears intact. I'm thinking about buying a broken Shift and seeing if there's some possible swapping out.
That was my back-up Shift; I do have another one, but I can't stand to see it languishing in a drawer
Jake
Yes thats a possibillity. i hope u'll find one.
What kind of things do you do on the shift ?
Just interested
I also made a topic here with various problems but the community for this device is all passed away.
I got almost everything working except wifi.
Also the battery on mine only lasts like an hour or so.
How do you experience that? And do you know any address wich sells a battery?
I just need to liberate the wm part but didnt have time todo that yet.
Yeah, I was the guy that was suggesting Hardy 8.04 on the other thread, to get wifi and an increased performance (albeit with a obsolete OS).
This is a really good browser for Linux and Windows since the Shift CPU is so antiquated:
http://links.twibright.com/
As for batteries:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CI3JQ4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
This one served me well. I also use a Tekkeon external battery, one of the older ones (non-usb) that gives me 12V (mistakenly using its adapter in the Shift jack is how I fried the power on my second Shift). They kick up on ebay, cheap, maybe $20usd.
I also liberated the Shift and use a SIM card that allows 3G for both WinMo and Hardy/Vista.
A new battery, and a lot of power saving measures, should give you around 3 hours. But in WinMo, I was able to install TextMaker and that battery life is about 15+ hours even using the 3G. The browsing stinks on WinMo, but Egress RSS install and so that's how I keep current without IE Explorer.
Yeah i saw that from the other topic
i think i will liberate it first. And then i'm gonna tinker with ubuntu. But first christmas
I saw this battery on amazon
unfortunatly amazon wono't ship to Holland. and the other site from mugen power is asking 229$ for a big battery pack wich also fattens up the device...
Never found one anywhere else
and not on ebay
The Muggen is not only expensive, but it's also pretty old at this point. So I don't know what charge it would hold; certainly not the fullest.
If you've got a SIM card for the Shift, then a liberated WinMo would be the way to go--long battery life, even with your deprecated battery, email, RSS, modest browsing, and if you want to drop the 40USD, you could get TextMaker, a full-fledged word processor (though a liberated WinMo would include WinMo Word; I for one need more out of a WP).
To install TextMaker, you need to install it on another WinMo device, then copy over that Softmaker directory through WMDC or the Linix equivalent. There's just not enough space in the Shift to run the cab installation.
But your WP needs may not call for such a powerful program.
Jake
I only liberate it for some games i guess on winmo
not for anything serious.
I do want a new battery but thats difficult. Maybe i can find some company that refills old Li-Po batteries.
Btw. On the amazon link you send me. it says it is a Li-Ion battery wich isnt the case. if you check the picture it is a li-po.
SHame because li-ion can be replaced with new cells when tired. lipo can't
I did not know there was a difference in cell replacement; thanks for the info.
Unless it's playing Leisure Suit Larry, it's hard to imagine the Shift as a gaming machine
If you have a SIM card in your phone, try using "sadapter," which is the best-built, safest SIM adapter and see if you can get on-line in WinMo. I read a lot about different SIM adapters and most are bad.
I'm using a sadapter when I went from a Galaxy S5 back down to a Nokia E7. So far, it's been a safe choice.
Jake
I ran quite a few games on the win7 side.
Gta3 even runs playable.
Retro city rampage
Most of the n64 games.
Older need for speed up until part 5 the porsche edition.
Still tinkering with other games.
Yes with the batteries theres a common mis conception
Li-po is some sort of paste or gel. i dont know how to describe it. Li-ion are cells they look like little AAA batteries you put in your remote. They come in a variety of sizes and mostly in laptop batteries.
