Any way to make the keyboard larger? - Surround General

Too small for my big fingers. Thanks!

Nope. Get a phone with a bigger screen.

I thought the keyboard was too small as well because I'm used to a physical keyboard (Tilt). It takes a while to get used to, but it's pretty functional.
I'm sure you have tried, but if haven't, switch it to landscape and the keyboard should be larger.

I'm disappointed in at&t for not picking up the 7 Pro that went to sprint since it is basically the successor to the previous 2 Tilts.

wait for the tilt3.

If landscape is too small for you on a 3.8" screen i dont know what else to tell you. Maybe the HD7 would be a better fit.

I think what he is talking about is how the keyboard does not resize in landscape mode to utilize the extra real estate offered - it really is annoying...

But it does resize in landscape mode?

It does resize, but it doesn't stretch to take up the whole width of the screen. Basically, when you flip to landscape mode, your status bar runs along the left of the screen and your menu bar runs along the right, so it looks like there's some empty spaces on the sides of the keyboard.

X1 or touch hd

hello, im new to xda and i need a new phone asap. i cant decide between these 2 phones. i dont need a keyboard but would really like one and i dont need a big screen but it needs to be big enough to watch movies on, do word docs and powerpoints. anyone who has the x1, is the screen small for you? if you had to choose one of these phones and u had the money, which one would you get?
Touch HD: Big screen, accelerometer
Xperia: Hardware keyboard
I have both, and my vote goes to Touch HD. Mostly because of the screen size (big, but not too big. And it's finger friendly!).
The hardware keyboard on X1 is really nice however. So if you type often, go for the X1.
Everyones taste is different, so I recommend going to the closest retail store and check em both out
i might as well wait for the touch pro 2, only .2 of an inch smaller than the hd but also has a keyboard. also has a tilting screen and it looks like its made of metal.

Do other users have a big banner in their signature asking for people to vote for their device?
my vote goes for the X1, better battery, better support (here in Sweden) hardware keyboard (very needed) and flashlight (better camera) I don't watch movies on my phones, but yes it looks good when watching with the Xperia screen, otherwise I use my PSP or my HP TX1020 (12") if I really need to watch movies when on a trip or something
imo the touch hd only have one advantage and it's the screen, I don't see the accelerometer like a "big" thing...

easier way to shoot pic

Is there an easier way to shoot pics using the camera than the touch screen or trackpad? Like power button or tapping the screen.
It's hard when taking pictures of my self and friends when screen is not facing us.

but euh yeah, some apps give you the ability to take the pics by tapping anywhere on the screen. just look them up (camera360?)

Talking about "camera zoom FX", a third party application.
Sigh.. common sense
I'm pretty sure he means it would be easier to just touch anywhere on the screen in camera mode to snap a picture as opposed to trying to touch the small circle at the bottom left.

Will the wallpaper resizing issue be fixed in ics?

Do we know if the resizing issue with wallpapers is going to be fixed in ics?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
That is the one thing that really ticks me off about Android devices. Unless it is the stock wallpaper you have to jump threw hoops to get it to size correctly on your screen. On Apple devices its as simple as 1 click. Why can't Android do that??

On HC devices, try setting an image as your wallpaper. Even if the image is really high-res, it only allows you to select a very small portion of the picture to use as a wallpaper. The end result is, your selection gets all blown-up and pixelated. It's nigh-impossible to get a good-looking, full-res wallpaper without using one of the stock wallpapers or a workaround.
What he said
Is this really a honeycomb issue or is it the form factor of the screen needing to have a wallpaper that fits portrait and landscape? I wonder how wallpaper selection is on the smaller galaxy tabs?

If an image fits the screen, it fits. It shouldn't matter what way I'm holding it.
Until you rotate it. Then the image won't fit the screen.

think about what you have said.
if you have a landscape picture then rotate ur screen to portrait youll get black bars top and bottom.
Landscape height = 800pixels
Portrait height = 1280 pixels
then youll start complaing why do i have black bars when my screen is in portrait mode -_-

Actually his question is legit. Why the picture has to rotate? Let's say he wants to use a picture of a metal grid as the background, that picture doesn't really have to move or rotate (just like it happens on computers). There should be an option in the settings to allow this, I completely agree with him even if I doubt I'll use it very often.
...and if you want to have a nice landscape as a background picture?
You rotate your tab 180 and trees are growing upside down.
You guys do realize that this is not a bug or error.. It's a feature, the small portion you are referring to is the actual homescreen.. When you select a wallpaper it's a sort of cross. Why is it a cross? Well when you open the app drawer the wallpaper scrolls down to give another perspective.. So basicly, the horizontal bar of the cross is the actual wallpaper on the homescreen. The vertical bar is for scrolling up in the app drawer. If you don't want that move to another launcher, or set wallpaper scrolling to off.
lol @ feature.
Lets make sure the picture you want as a desktop....the thing most easily identifiable as customizing....the thing youve been doing with your desktop since windows 98....lets make sure we make it the biggest pain in the ass for you to change it to what you want.
Its ugly ,its stupid ,and useless.
All 3rd party apps door poor jobs of keeping the original res.
So AGAIN...does ICS fix this ? Anyone with half a brain or 15 seconds of Android use knows that a pain this is.
Simple Answer.
Sorry, but no.
It is not fixed yet,i hope it will be fixed in future.
I agree. It's very annoying, and needs to be fixed'

if you resize your wallpaper to 1900x1408 (or is it 1900x1425?), and the wallpaper won't be stretched. You have to use larger images than the screen resolution because of the way the wallpaper scrolls.
Though I do have to say, my HP touchpad (running ICS) renders wallpapers much better than the galaxy tab does. It does have a different aspect ratio though

Galaxy Note Wiyh SoftKeys

Hi
Which one is better in CM9 in your opinion?
With SoftKeys?
Without SoftKeys?
I don't get why youd even want softkeys, why would you want to waste a portion of your screen with keys that you have already have anyway
i didn't buy a device with a 5.3" screen because i like wasting screen real estate...
i did buy a device with a 5.3" screen because i like wasting screen real estate!
Tablet mode with touch keys is how i use it now.
I even disabled the original menu/back button, cause i touch them while typing.
Soft keys for the multitasking button. With such a large screen we can easily afford to waste screen real estate.
Also softkeys are not good for our SUPER AMOLED screens, they will be permanently burned to your screen after a few months!
No kidding!

So will your status bar.
I personally love the onscreen buttons. I disable the other ones and disable the backlight as well. I do this for the fact that my kids and I would constantly back out of things when grabbing the phone landscape. I like the fact that with the onscreen you have somewhere to grab the phone without backing out. And although not a big deal, its less stress not having to press the big button, and this I would think would help the longevity of the hardware button itself . But in the end, it's purely preference, oh and I don't worry about the burn in as I have mine set very low so its just noticeable and It moves when I open apps and when I go landscape.

That is the main reason why I enable software keys on every ICS ROM I try! When you try on-screen keys you will feel how LONG it takes to launch the recent apps panel using the long-pres on Home button! Add to that I got very used to multitask using the recent apps softkey then physical button will only hinder my speed and will wear out in a matter of couple months
I've flashed the soft keys and disabled the back lights of the hardware keys, but how do I completely disable the hardware keys so I won't press them by accident?

Have to quote this again so people are aware. Amoleds are notorious for ghosting due to pixel wear out burnout whatever you want to call it. Using the ICS on screen virtual buttons will surely destroy your screen.
That's why I also autohide my notification bar on the home screens.

Burn out is avoidable provided you don't leave static images on the screen for long periods of time. With the notification bar it is always there unless you use a launcher that hides it on the home screens and apps that have the option to hide the notification bar as well.
I use opera mobile so I can browse in full screen and not worry about static notification bars. Also use launcher pro so I can hide the notification bar.

That's one of those old wives tales.
The burn-in isn't so much related to the technology as it is related to build quality.
Most of those issues are stemming from Gnex owners, and the ones with problems usually have other build quality problems too... they just were unlucky to have a bad batch that skipped QC.
I've got a friend who had the Gnex from day one, and to this day... no burn-ins!
I would normally prefer physical buttons (ftw) but I'm going to have to agree that the Note needs "soft buttons" aka on-screen Navigations.
Why?
Because it gets annoying shifting finger to stylus and back again during the daily use.
Bonus reasons:
- without it, the device looks much better (like the Gnex or N9)
- these can be customized for colour, glow, function and gestures

I know about what you talking. I wrote to Swiftkey support, but they don't listen. Two ways to fix this:

2. Install Gboard, it hasn't this problem
