pic files ? - G2 and Desire Z General

hi is there a way to save a pic and not have it viewed in gallery? i want to keep some pics private
thanks in advance

put all your pictures in a special folder and drop a ".nomedia" file on there. It will stop android from scanning that folder for media. For example, you could have your "private" pictres in a folder called "books", or something else that's boring, add a .nomedia file, and add your pictures. You won't see them with gallery, but you will with a file explorer.

Just put a .foldername
Ex
.hiddenpix
Works the same way as what is post above

so i just name the file something like books.nomedia

[Q] Downloading Twitter photos to Desire Z

I follow a well known celeb on twitter and want to download her photos onto my phone, but when i click on the photo to save it to my phone it says content not supported, no program can open this file, if i do save it, it is a .bin file, your not given the option to rename it.
If i do this on my pc the file gets saved as a .jpg
Any help please??
Thanks
Um, just out of curiosity what exactly are your intentions with said photo?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Just to save it on my phone, in an album. Have found a workaround though, I have to save it on my phone as a bin file, then rename it as a JPG in Astro File Manager, is there no other way?

Download files to specific folder

When I receive files via gmail, is it possible to choose the folder they download to? Id like to put photos I receive in my photo folder and documents I receive in my documents folder. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks

No, I think they go to the download folder, but you can move them using Astro or another file manager

Guide for how to hide files in Gallery without deleting them

Here the steps to hide the files in your Gallery.
Crate folder and move all the files into that folder which you want to hide. after moving files, create a new folder named as ".nomedia" inside the previously created Folder. Restart device and let it scan for media files. Thats it all done. Now files are in that folder wont appear in Gallery.
There are apps that automate this for you too - I use Gallery Excluder.

Dave

This works for the stock Gallery, but if you generally don't want the media to appear in similar apps, it's best to create a file called .nomedia rather than a folder. The reason is that the Gallery is coded to check for the existence of a folder or file called .nomedia, whereas other apps may simply check for a file.
Small point, coming from a programmer (most languages have different functions for checking if a file or folder exists).
good tip. thank you.

Guys,
Is there a easier soloution for music album art? I added a .nomedia file to the music folder (of sdcard/media/music) - great all album art pictures no longer show in the Gallery - problem is my music also 'disappeared' as it is a literal no-media to be shown! .
Is there a work around as my album art is tagged to the music files?
Does the gallery not have a tracker? Thats what im used to with maemo
Thanks for the tip
It can also be used to hide audio and video files

Hide Whatsapp Images Folder

I have a Nexus 4 running CyanogenMod 10.1. I want to hide the WhatsApp images folder. I have already tried placing a "." at the beginning of the file name and also adding a .nomedia file in to the WhatsApp images folder. Both methods hide the folder only until you receive or send an image on WhatsApp whereby the folder appears again.
Any help would be appreciated.
I don't entirely know if this would work because I haven't used whatsapp, so I don't know what their folder setup is like. You could try to put a .nomedia file in the folder above the images folders.
Eg. If the image folder is \SD-Card\Whatsapp\Images
put the .nomedia file in \SD-Card\Whatsapp\.nomedia
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this gives the same result as described in my original post. It hides the folder temporarily until an image is sent or received on WhatsApp, whereby the folder appears again.
Any other sugesstions would be welcome.

Download Quickpic from Play Store and hide the folder.
P.S Once you hide the folder from Quickpic, it doesn't show up on the default Gallery app as well.
Ooh, I didn't know that. And Quickpic is an awesome image viewer/gallery anyways, so I already had it installed. Thanks for the tip!

its a stupid workaround but here.
rename the images folder to Whatsapp Images.bak
restart the phone
remove the new Whatsapp Images folder and rename the *.bak to the orignal folder name
I've tried all the methods you mention. I hided the folder in quickpic, but it doesn't work. I put a new file named .nomedia both in the whatsapp folder or in the whatsapp images folder, but it doesn't work (it hides the folder just untill you dont post or download an other images from whatsapp). I tried renaming the whatsapp images folder with the .bak but still doesn't work.
I have a new nexus 4. How can I hide this folder from my gallery?

You always make a folder named ".Pictures" or something with a ".nomedia" file in it somewhere on your phone and manually move whichever pictures you want to hide there.
EDIT: I searched "hide app" in the Play store and there's a few apps that claim they can hide pictures.

This is not the point. I don't want to hide pictures in a folder. What I would like to do is to hide the "whatsapp images" folder from the gallery. All the methods you mention in this thread are not valid for the nexus 4. Other solutions?

QuickPic is the way to go. The stock Gallery app should have been like it. All you have to do is to long press that folder, hit the menu button and choose exclude. Of course it only takes effect within QuickPic itself. Stock Gallery app sucks anyway.

Yeah, QuickPic doesn't support pictures taken using Photosphere. But its other advantages still outshine Gallery
Again, the point is not to hide some pictures. The point is to hide the whatsapp images folder from the gallery. Probably I'm not clear, I don't know, you keep giving solution on how to hide pictures.

Did you at least try it? I haven't, but I assume that the folder would be hidden after all the pictures are hidden. :S
The folder will be hidden until you will send or receive an other picture from whatsapp.
Nobody knows how to solve this problem?

I don't think anyone knows how to solve this, but right now the only way seems to be to hide new pictures after you receive them.
