Telus calls this a Fascinate, but other than the case, the device is internally damned near identical to an i897/i896, all-capacitive buttons, no FFC, 850/1900/2100 UMTS bands. Only difference is a working FM radio on the Telus unit.
On the Telus network, I get as high as 2900kbps upload speeds (no, that's not WiFi, that's on the carrier network), so HSUPA is clearly not crippled. I suspect this ROM will port right over to a Captivate with no tweaking at all, and vice versa.
I'm doing an Odin dump of mine right now, but it's taking awhile. EDIT and here it is: http://www.multiupload.com/6IJIYKK43C
Another member suggested I post here in the Dev section, so that's what I'm doing. Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837278
EDIT: Looks like there's next to no utility in the Odin dump, so DG had me do an ADB dump instead.
Google Docs Link , much faster than MultiUpload (I'll be killing this one in about a week to free up space on my account).
MultiUpload slow but steady link
And an ADB /system dump can be found here.
Great news! Thank you!
that would be awesome if the modem from this works on the captivate.
the T959-D and the obvious look of it suggests that it's a lightly changed Samsung Vibrant T959 and not a i896/7. It looks exactly like the Vibrant as far as the hardware goes.
Pretty sure it could be the JPP modem.... i'm with fido and I easily get 5793kbps down/3426kbps up

I think I'd be more excited about the possibility of getting FM working on the Captivate. Hopefully your dump can help us get headed in that direction.

The hardware is the same, the backplate is exactly the same which was customized in blue for the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant T959. The glass is exactly the same size and cut. The Captivate looks nothing like the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant T959. The entire outer shell is completely different.
This phone is a twin to the Vibrant and not the Captivate.. not sure where you got that from.
Read my lips...the combination of the same radio and same buttons is the deal here, not the case and glass.
But if you don't want me to dump the firmware, I can just go back to the I9000 and Tab sections and leave you guys alone. Your call, no skin off my back.

I'm not trolling, it's wrong. The only thing these two phones share between each other 850MHz, otherwise probably won't just port right on over. The T959 has switched buttons on a i897 rom and the opposite should apply because of a hardware difference. I said nothing else of the sort, and if the OP wants me to stroke his ego it won't be happening.

Yeah. I read this and smirked a bit at all of the people who were going to throw this "garbage" Samsung phone away and "upgrade" to the HTC experience with the G2.
As a side note, the loose hinge eventually happened with my G1 as well. The screen stopped sitting flush with the rest of the body, and anytime you would use the touch screen it clanked together with the keyboard. Also had some touch screen issues because of it. But, I digress.

The Bell Vibrant and T-Mobile Vibrant are two totally different phones when it comes to their firmware versions. We believe you though, Bell has released FroYo for the i9000M(Bell Vibrant), T-Mobile USA is taking their sweet ass time getting FroYo out to us.
Well, it's not like I saw a dedicated forum for the bell version. And of course T-Mob's firmware is gonna be different, they're an entirely different company.
As far as I can tell. The only differences between the two pieces of hardware are the addition of a search button on T-Mob and no front facing camera. Not 100% sure on the last one. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't believe, that the 2.2 is coming out in front of the 2nd week of 01/11.
Think about, what is happen, if something going wrong?

Haha you might wanna go check your topic in Q&A cause no ones buying it. You've already been reported at least twice to ebay for fraudulent listing. I did my research, unlike you.
EDIT: Also I dont even believe he was drunk...he may have been, but I believe the misleading auction was completely intentional. If he took the time to unlock it, surely he would have noticed VIBRANT in big bright white letters when you first boot the phone. I think he's just backpedaling since pretty much everyone in his thread called him on his bull****.

So The carriers have there names trademarked for the new gs2 in the us. SAD NEWS ---T-Mobile USA is notable for its absence; that could be because the carrier isn’t getting a version or, perhaps more likely, because aesthetically it is different and the gel wouldn’t fit.

This is horrible news. Samsung has to (yet again) cater to the unstandardized U.S. carriers. Just look at what happened to the Vibrant (correct me if I miss a few details):
Front-facing camera removed
FM radio removed
LED flash removed
Added a key with a search function that's useless most of the time
Added T-Mobile's crapware along with a unique Android source which delays official updates
I'm pretty sure similar things will happen with the Galaxy S II variants for the U.S. this time.

T-Mobile just decided to drop the Vibrant, and update the GS4G to GB, and forget us.
It's most likely not true, and they could easily be building it now, but this is what I think, and if it's true.... then damn.

T-Mobile can't be the blame anymore. When froyo was released to us it wasn't an ota, it was thru klies which is Samsungs update software. I don't understand how T-Mobile can be blamed anymore. The leaks for the captivate, fasinate and sgs4g were from Samsung. Not the carriers of those phones. Tho they did include the carrier bloat ware. So maybe I'm wrong. I just want a dang leak for us vibrant owners.

Nope there are several differences including a different GPS/WIFI chip. This was discussed in detail and breakdowns showed the differences. I think you can probably still pull up the breakdown pics with the phones setting side by side.

are you sure?
I understand that GPS is broken on CM7 because there are no drivers. And when people said to use the drivers from the galaxy 4g they said no go because the drivers are different due to different chips in the two units. Plus there are pics, or where because I cannot find them now, that showed two different chips. Samsung moved away from the erricson chip because of all the issues with GPS on the SGS line.
I was wondering about this the other day, it is indeed frustrating.

the gps is the same between the vibrant and sgs4g, that's why there are now gingerbread roms with gps (since the sgs4g gb leak).
cm7 is different, it has no samsung software, so in order to use the gps drivers from the sgs4g they need to insert a layer of abstraction (a wrapper) to try and use gps drivers. otherwise, for all samsung based roms, the gps is tightly coupled with tw. if we had the source for the gps drivers, it would be much easier and would likely be working by now.
SGS4G & Vibrant are not the same, which is why our GPS isn't 100%, only half-assed
