Tmobile screw the g2 and froyo up - Vibrant General

Well my friend just got ab tmobile g2 yesterday and it come with 2.2. But tmobile screw it up by taking out the wifi hotspot tether. So now the fone still need to b root to use tether. I thonk it gonna b the same for the rest of us waiting for froyo.: angry:

1) this is not news, we have known that for a long time.
2) what does this have to do with the vibrant?

Dont u think that if they took that from the g2 then it would b the same for us (vibrant) ?

it doesn't matter.
Once we have root, it's a moot point

This was mentioned many places on the web well before the phone launch. If you expected differently, then you must live in fantasy land.

Why are you worried about a 2.2 fix right now? We still don't have the 2.1 OTA. We are months away from an official 2.2 release.

I thought you were going to mention that numerous physical issues people are having with it, such as the loose and snapping sliding mechanisms, and an incorrect amount of storage installed

Looks like those g2 people should stop coming on here talking about there phone LOL!

Lmfaooooo everything has issues and I knew it would too. I've had a few htc devices in my days....

So tmobile screwed up by a removing a feature that goes against their terms and conditions. (common with all carriers)'
Damn, I wonder what the average IQ of vibrants owners is?

If u know that 2.1 international galaxy s should have the 3g sharing but we don't, then it is not any news that we wont have it in 2.2
Anyway, it maybe year-early to talk about 2.2

Yeah. I read this and smirked a bit at all of the people who were going to throw this "garbage" Samsung phone away and "upgrade" to the HTC experience with the G2.
As a side note, the loose hinge eventually happened with my G1 as well. The screen stopped sitting flush with the rest of the body, and anytime you would use the touch screen it clanked together with the keyboard. Also had some touch screen issues because of it. But, I digress.

just goes to show, nothing is going to be perfect.

Yea, I seen that earlier (came in over twitter).
It makes me actually look forward to getting my replacement Vibrant in.
They need to hurry up (backordered ).
That hinge is so full of fail, I just don't know what to say.
If Samsung had better developers, they could be cleaning up right now, Lol.

Both the phones have their positives and negatives...

Yea, well TMO is just being themselves...although to be honest I think they are making a mistake, but luckily we are on a forum full of devs so we may be able to get the original version of Froyo before it got gutted by TMO

LOL I guess you haven't heard about the bigger screw up. The phone is advertised as having 4GB internal memory, mysteriously most of that memory is not available, and T-Mobile wants people to believe the OS ate most of it up.
Also the hinge is messed up

Um, hate to tell you, but HTC and T-Mobile have pretty clearly demonstrated their stance of Free Open Source Software. The whole idea of locking us out goes against the spirit of Linux and Open Source. They are taking the work of others, and using it to turn a profit, screw the user in the process.
My G2 goes back this week. **** you T-Mobile, you just gained another b-stock G2.

give it time the vibrant is a nice phone no doubt but the g2 will have way more support for one being HTC and two being stock so being able to mod things for the g2 willsorta be how the nexus one is..which has great support who knows g2 might have 3.0 before samsung has 2.2 lol dont quot me either way you have a great phone
I understand, believe me. But I got this phone for its speed, which it def has, its support, being HTC, and the root ability, which is not here, yet at least. I need tether, bad. I hate the vibrant, but its so easily rootable. And I have tether. Had sprint and the evo. Left it for this phone. No regrets other than the crap they pulled on this phone. I wanted the hspa speeds, the vibrant I had right before this one, got almost the same speeds. So why not go back?

Hate to tell you, but the bug referenced is not a bug-as-in-a-hole-to-be-exploited. It's a bug in behavior, where changes to /system are thought to be successful by linux but actually aren't. Instead of getting a this-is-read-only error, the write appears to go through. And when the cache is flushed or when the phone is restarted it's apparent that nothing was written at all.
That said, work is still underway.

How much can I get for my g2?

So I have a g2 that came from htc and has an imei flagged as a test phone. I was the first one with tethering and wifi calling and have gotten test OTAs since then. I'm getting the mytouch hd. You think my g2 is worth any more than normal?

This op is one of the ones that got the OTA a few weeks ago. He never made it clear to anybody that it was a special test phone at that time (although he did state it didn't come from T-Mobile). This sent everyone into a tizzy thinking there was the possibility of an OTA for the masses being sent out.
That being said, I'd a pay a small premium for that phone over a standard G2. Risky as far as warranty goes, but that's true of anything you buy used I suppose.

Definitely not crippled. Everything works phenomenal.
I don't understand why this device is worth more, all it has is a test imei that allows for test otas. It's not like it's nand unlocked and can be broken into. No offense to the OP, but once we get the nand unlocked, people that root, won't be looking forward to OTAs, except for new releases of Android instead.

Seems like Samsung noticed Noob left and said **** we ain't got anyone else to develop froyo for us.
Always thought they did **** like that...Because you know they have their eyes on xda and sdx to see what the devs are doing.
Thats obviously from across the pond, with the translation creating the grammatical errors, and it mentions Vodafone which is Uk's and Spain's largest carrier, and it refers to our cell phones as terminals lol. At the end, it mentions that it may not be true for its United States users, so I really doubt it pertains to us.
I think where just waiting on sprint. I believe samsung did there part and no where for sprint to finish there part. There has been 3 froyo leaks already. Its just a matter of time

Highly doubtful.
Epic just upgraded to 2.2, and Vibrant was scheduled last week but got postponed a week. If we were going to see 2.3 instead, then we'd have to wait months...first Samsung would release to International Galaxy S, then give it to all the carriers who then make modifications.
At this point all the carriers have been working on 2.2 so I doubt they would drop doing their work on this to skip over froyo.
i wouldnt be surpised if we skip all updates straight into 3.0 after all not the first time samsung ****ed us(all galaxy s will get 2.2 SHORTY after release).
At this point, I don't have too much hope for 2.2. I've seen in the past with other devices and OS that VZW skip a release or two because it failed their internal testing or something. I wouldn't be surprise if 2.2 was like that

Seems this is becoming a common sentiment. Go figure, right?
It seems as if Verizon is putting all of its eggs in the Motorola basket. They get updates/fixes galore.
I will be furious if the Fascinate goes the way of the Droid Eris (what I JUST upgraded from). Fortunatley, instead of burning an upgrae, I bought off of Craigslist.
maybe we will at least see a 2.3 leak one day!
We're going to get 2.3 eventually.
You guys can't blame Verizon for us not having froyo. If t mobile is so great why don't the vibrant have it? And sprints testing is poopoo, if you read about their new froyo, I don't think anyone is impressed
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yeah I absolutely love the irony of everyone jumping ship from Verizon when the other devices haven't got Froyo either. When T-Mobile gets Froyo onto the Vibrant we shall see. The Epic is different hardware (different enough that Samsung probably shipped different drivers/RIL). This entire attitude of "verizon sucks" is just laughable at this point.

T-Mo sucks and has the spottiest data coverage of any carrier I have ever used. I can remember driving down the highway, using my Nexus One in the car cradle, and having to wait for Google Maps to load up my current location because the buffered map areas couldn't keep up since the data connection kept going up and down. I could get across the city so quick on the highway that the network could not seemlessly handle me moving across the network so fast. Verizon has been a breath of fresh air compared to T-Mo, and the only thing I miss is the control I had with my Nexus One. That said, the screen on this phone is nice and is really the top of the class. We will get 2.2 soon enough, and with the proper foundation, I would think creating 2.3 ROMs will be an easy prospect.

Probably for another year or so, depending on the releases of the phones at the time. If i can get my hands on the new HTC Flyer when it comes out in Canada/US, it might extend my time with the DZ/G2 however.
Until AT&T suckes up TMobile.
Not investing in another phone before that happens, and certainly NOT staying as an AT&T customer once it does.

What 2gigs back and what rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
HTC phones can last pretty long. My 3.5 year old Tilt/Kaiser still works great (just some cosmetic dings, and normal wear and tear). And I'm sure there are plenty of folks with much older HTC devices around here. I have a friend still rocking the G1, with another whose G1 just died. Of course, electronic devices can fail at any time. But on average, HTC phones are pretty durable. I expect to get tired of my Vision long before it fails. I seem to be moving to a 1-year phone upgrade cycle lately.
mine is usually a year too but for some reason id like to keep it for longer, bit no doubt that will fade in a month r so
I love mine, the only thing I miss so bad is a Front Facing Cam. If and when HTC releases another phone with a Keyboard and a FFC, which I can use with Wind/T-Mobile, I am going for it, until then, will stick to my G2.
