I tried downloading the visionary app from modaco and I got problem parsing the package any help?

Try downloading it from your computer first and then loading it onto your phone that way. If that doesnt work, it might be a bad version of visionary.

Does anyone know if z4root is compatible with the Epic 4G? If so is it as good/as safe as the 1-click root method?
Why not just 1-click root it ?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I did use one-click root personally, but I've had other users on another forum ask if they could use this as they wanted to root without using a computer. And I'm always open to another root option - just wanted to get the developers' opinions on it.

Haven't tried. You can be the first to do so but I don't see why not

I just used it on my epic running stock eclair...works great, since all other forms of rooting failed for me. A+++
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Just make sure your have debugging on, aswell as switching to stock launcher--if using launcher pro or adw etc.

I literally just used it 2b minutes ago to root from stock and its was quick. Took me about 7 minutes to root and reboot.

Strange, I just tried it on my stock Eclair too but didn't work, it got stuck "running the exploit". It changed once to "saving file" but it returned to the previous state and just hung there. I forced rebooted my phone (aka take the battery out) and tried it again, no luck for me in the end.....

I used z4ROOT to uninstall root on my 2.1 stock rom.
works instantly quick.
Easy, worked like a charm.
root and unroot on stock epic worked fine!
Need a little help here so I don't screw up.
installed ROM manager - download clockworkmod 2.5.1.0
tried to backup Current Rom
goes to Backup Name Window with date.time
click ok
phone goes to Install from package
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e:signature verification failed
Installation aborted:
I use the select reboot option, reboot and back to where I started.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for an assist.

Rom manager will not work on the stock kernel on the epic- I wish that Rom manager included that in the support notes- you need a custom kernel - your best bet is to install noobnl clockworkmod
Thanks for the tip. Off to try noobnl clockworkmod.

I have tried EVERYTHING to get into ClockworkMod with no luck. At first I tried rom manager and when I found out it wouldn't work I uninstalled it and downloaded tried to use one click and the 3 finger method and no green :-( I'm positive I'm rooted because z4 said I'm rooted, I can take screen shots, I have setcpu, I have titanium backup, root explorer, you get the point and the are all running without problems. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I am the first to admit I'm a total "noob" as you all call it when it comes to anything involving technology but I want to try and theme. I also had previously tried one click root on both my windows pc and my pc running linux. I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious lol.
PS yes I have superuser and it grants permission when running root apps also I sucessfully installed busybox if that matters...I'm just dirt duh der I'm sure
I already backed everything and returned my phone to stock again and that didn't help. It gives me the same message at boot up as the poster above if it matters

I had this problem as well. I ended up having to download and use the super one click root method that has clockworkmod recovery built in. make sure you have the sdk installed and place the unzipped one click folder in the tools folder of the sdk. Also download the correct drivers for your computer. I originally rooted with z4root and was in the same boat as you, you can check out the thread I started to get the answer just search ( can I flash froyo beta with out root or clock work???) Shouldn't be to hard to find. Good luck. If you need any help pm me.

Thank You
I gave up. I just wanted to get better battery life and have more options for customizing but it isn't looking hopeful at this point. Both of my desktops and my laptop had some issue causing me not to be able to install ClockworkMod. I am not computer savey and for sanity reasons I said **** it.
I'm sure ill get a hair when I'm not fed up...
Is it normal that when my phone is in usb dubugging that it pops up an error and won't allow me to connect my usb to a computer? Its a new thing. Everything is backed up on 2 different computers so I think I'm going to try and return my Epic to stock. Maybe that will help, maybe not
Thanks again for trying to help

Essentially the situation is that about a week ago I rooted my new glacier phone using the Terminal Emulator method outlined in this post .
Everything worked fine, my phone was rooted and worked perfectly.
A few days ago I decided that i needed to clean up my phone because my SD card was full. I went about deleting files and folders which I thought were simply images taken from my camera and audio / video files. Obviously I made a mistake and deleted something I shouldn't have because immediately following the "clean up" I typed su into my Android terminal and was greeted with the response:
"link_image[1995]: failed to link su CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE"
Since then I've tried several things to get my root privileges back, including:
Factory Resetting the Phone
Rerunning the same procedure I used to gain root in the first place
I tried and failed to simply flash a new ROM to the phone, whenever I go into recovery and apply a .zip I get the error: "Can't open /sdcard/zipfile.zip (bad) Installation Aborted"
The Super user app does tell me that there is an update that it needs to apply, I have a gut feeling that it's trying to fix the error that I made in deleting whatever file I deleted. But when I try to apply the update the Super user app tells me to apply the update in recovery mode. When i go into recovery mode to apply the zip I get the same errors reported above.
My s=off currently so I can't get stock OTA updates and my "su" privileges are not working so I'm stuck in a bit of a limbo. Not sure where to turn at this point and would greatly appreciate any and all advice from the Android Dev Community.
Cheers!
How about restoring your original backup via clockwork? It only backs up the phones flash, not the sd card though.
Not sure what superuser would need from the sd card.

Sounds like u should have just reinstalled superuser. If u still have s off, download maybe iced glacier Rom and flash it thru Rom manager. Usually comes pre everything
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I'll certainly try your advice but I'm 90% sure that I'm gonna run into the problem that even though my phone is s=off, for all intensive purposes it isn't rooted because I can't run any programs that require su permissions.

Ok now im having problems with themes from the toolbocks. I click on the theme I want and it says downloading and installing then looks like its rebooting then its looks like its installing it but then it says aborted. I then need to select the reboot phone to get back
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It will reboot the phone and go in to recovery mode and install the theme on it's own. If the installation aborted that means the download didn't finish right.
Once your phone is booted up go in to the file manager and in the liberty folder there is a downloads folder, click on it and you will see the different themes that you downloaded. The ones that don't work but are listed there need to be deleted so you can redownload and attempt the install again.
I wanted to add, you are much better off downloading the themes while connected to wi-fi then 3g.
It worked thank you. I think I just didn't let it download all the way

Glad to hear you got it working. I had the same problem the first time I tried switching themes and realized what it was and what needed done.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I'm already asking for help
I have had my rooted Click/Tattoo for about 15 mouths now, yesterday I updated my recovery and flashed the wrong one by accident (I flashed a Wildfire one not a Click one).
The phone boots into Android 1.6 but won't let me flash a new recovery either on the phone terminal with Super User or on my PC with adb. Also I can't flash using Fast boot as my phone has decided to turn Security back on.
I have no Idea what to do, as I have a basicily useless phone at the moment, please help

Basically you should copy a file whose name is clicimg.zip then fastboot THE phone -PWR+VOL-DOWN. The phone should then rolback TO factory. Look tor the file; id u can't fonda it icould provide

You may have a bad download of the tot file. It should be over 2gb in size when compressed and just under 3gb when unzipped. If it isn't, try downloading it again.
Ok I downloaded it twice once using crome and once with firefox both times same result. Will try again though. Also I thought about downloading the rom on my galaxy s4 and transfer it to my laptop. I used to download all my s4 roms that way and never really had a problem?

You could try that. Sometimes downloading such a large file through the browser causes problems. If you use a download manager, it limits these problems. It took me two tries with Firefox.
Thanks for your help. I ended up downloading the zip onto my S4. Then transferring it over to my laptop. Worked great ?
