Looks like there is major issues with getting parts for these new phones, wifi issues and no expandable Micro SD (without voiding warranty).. DVP has been delayed till January 2011 in UK.
I'm feeling a little sorry for MS at moment, they've put alot of work in to this OS and they have been really let down by there handset Partners. Should have gone with one phone and one manufacturer like the G1 and the Iphone 1.0, got a platform that worked and a good handset.... then developed from there. MS's partners have saturated the market with bad handsets and it would seem they done have the stock to sell them either. Orange UK always seems to be out of stock on their online store.
What they seem to have is the titanic, great in theory but due to substandard build quality it will sink.
I've been looking forward to a qwerty phone for a while, had the SPV E650 with Wimo 5.0 and loved it.... but im really doubting the build of these new phones... that being said played with an Omnia 7 the other day and thought it was great....
Here's the acticle I got my info about delays from.. take a read if you like and post any thoughts you may have.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/dell-venue-pro-delayed-in-the-uk-due-to-component-supply
We've known that for a few days, it's been discussed in other threads (the UK delay I mean).
Otherwise I totally agree with you about Microsoft being let down by manufacturers, they just went for minimum specs and we just have ok WP7 devices (a couple of 16GB phones and no 32GB, are you serious?). I am particularly disappointed in HTC as they usually create amazing phones. I guess that's why people are excited about the Venue Pro, it seems to be clearly above the rest.
2nd gen can't come soon enough.
sorry didn't realize it had been mentioned already, did look through titles but didn't see anything specific. My Bad on double posting, cheers for heads up
As for the handsets.. im starting to think Im gonna go with Omnia 7, its looking a lot more appealing and i can deal with lack of keyboard. The screen on it is beautiful.
2nd Gen is a great thing to have but I'm at end of my contract this week, so need a new phone now... also been waiting a year for WP7 to come out and starting to get a bit impatient lol.
I'm in the same position, contact ends this month and been waiting for WP7 since I can't remember. That said, got the HD7 for my wife so I at least have one around that I can play with to partly sate my hunger!!
The DVP did seem to be the perfect device that I was looking for (I struggle without hardware keyboards although I have to say that the soft keyboard on WP7 is much better than any I've used before). So annoyed that it's delayed so badly, but I think I will resist jumping in with a device that's not quite what I want, and wait for the new year, and maybe some rivals to the DVP when it finally arrives!

My thought exactly. I'm tempted by the HD7 because it's available now and with 16GB but really I want a Venue Pro so I'll wait... unless I import .
well im resonably happy to say that I rang orange today and got an Omnia 7 upgrade for £9.99, with good contract. Seems MS are going with Cloud storage these days which is why they handsets have small HDD's.. i can live with that along as I can get on WIFI lol..
So i will now wait untill the next incarnation of the DVP and see what that has too offer, maybe they will be on 3rd gen by then

I have a Zune HD with 8GB of music on it, if I get a WP7 I want it to also be my Zune so I need at least a 16GB device
Bad news about the lack of memory card on this as it was the main reason I was considering it over the other WP7 devices.

Rang my carphone warehouse earlier today (was expected 20th release date) , they have no stock, not sure when they just have the dummy. He checked direct stock to get an idea of how long it would be but he said CW had no stock what so ever.....at an estimate he said two weeks.
He said lots of people asking about the phone, and all SE keep doing is putting the release back...
I think SE must be having serious issues with this phone if they keep putting it back unannounced to the general public, worries me what the final version will be like.
I mean really SE get your act together, you gave the official release date as the 30th Septemeber, coming up to a month later and we're still waiting for when we can get our hands on this with no guarentee it will be the next two weeks. Really poor service if you ask me.
My contract is up on the 25th and I can't afford to wait any longer, so I'm now going to go order a touch diamond now on a 12 month contract (which i really like anyway)....So I hate to be a forum moaner, and just keep moaning and b***ng but SE you have lost your business from me unfortunately. I am aware I am just a number to you, and one in a million wanting this phone is nothing. But you see there is your problem, stop being so corporate and get more public and have better communication with your dealers and the general public.
Anyway 12 months is a short contract length, maybe by this time next year the Xperia will be released (I will more than likely still have to wait even then).....
I really am gutted I can't get one, but oh well the Diamond will do me mighty fine...
I know how you feel and sorry to see you be forced to another device but considering your circumstances, it's completely understandable.
The Touch Diamond is no slouch so enjoy it for what it's worth. As you said, I just wish SE would communicate the situation better with the die-hard customers. Business and marketing certainly can burst a products bubble as it's a fine line between hype and disappointment but it this case I think a formal press release coming clean on the situation might save some people from jumping ship.
Again, sorry to see another person forced away. Regardless, enjoy your new toy!
It's a shame really, as I was almost forced to do the same thing. My contract ran out a few days since.
Luckily enough i managed to get hold of a working xperia and im quite happy now until the retail version is out, when ill sell my modded proto and buy the retail version.
I agree totally with this thread. I was in the same situation, I simply loved this phone and SE would have now a totally new person, because I never owned a SE phone in my life and this would have been the first I liked, no, I loved! But I have to wait way to long... Now, ok I'm still waiting, but I'm waiting for the Touch HD, I think this phone will be available at the beginning of November here in Germany and although if the X1 would be available, too, sorry, I'm just very, very upset because of SEs delay, so I wont buy it. I know, I'm very emotional, but thats my way and if they dissapoint me soooo much, then I will choose the competitor, who is really great by the way Sony, you lost one person more, so in this thread already two! Shame on you!
Hang on guys, the SE X1 is definitely coming, so it's a only a matter of roundabout a view days... or whatever...
Of course you can buy some alternative crappy plastic thingies by now or you wait for the real thing of awesomeness - for me the choice is easy.
If it takes 2 more weeks then okay, if it takes a view weeks more, than it's still okay. The thing is: I have no alternative, all the rest on the market is not really worth a comparison, at least if it comes to my requirements.
So I really want this phone.
What I want hasn't been made I'd like a phone with a PXA930 800mhz processor with a Imageon Z460 3D graphics core (or equavalent), 256+ ram, and a hardware keyboard with windows 6.1 mobile.

Very true. Just can't wait till they start offering High Performance phones like they do with Laptops/Desktops now a days. So you can go to a website and add what processor, case, ram, etc you want in your device and what OS you want and what bands you want and they ship it to you.
i must admit i was gung ho for the xperia and thru being starved of information i started reading about the HD. Now i've decided to wait until i can see them both but i'm pretty much in the Touch HD camp at the moment. Shame because this would have been my first keyboard phone. I'll either use my mobile or a BT keyboard when at work/desk/sat around!
Afternoon all
I have been reading all the reviews about this amazing phone but have a small concern, I can upgrade/swap provider next month shall i get the HD2 or will someting better come out in say 3-5 months and do you think WM7 will come to the HD2??
No matter what you get, something better will always come along in a few months time. If you worry about that you'll never end up getting anything I'm afraid. I just got the HD2 yesterday on SIM free, having come from the iphone 3G. Have to say, overall I'm impressed with the HD2, probably not quite as polished as the iphone, but you can do a lot more with it. Think of it more in terms of a small laptop rather than a phone.
I've never had a windows mobile before, and I must admit it's taking some time to get my head around it and get things set up, but am getting there now I think. Certainly one of the hardest phones I used in terms of getting it set up right, but then there are so many features and settings. It'll be worth it in the end I'm sure. PLus the guys on here have been a HUGE help. Certainly the best and most useful phone and gadget forum I've been on. There's an answer for just about everything on here.
just buy it, its the best phone experiance i've ever had!

fully agree on this as well
HD2 does have some bugs but I've never seen a phone / device without bugs. Update to WM 7 has neither been approvid nor declined officially but fact is that from hardware specification is should be able to deal with WM 7.
You need to commit at some point - as usual along the whole life - so either you go for HD2 or you can wait for the next 3 - 5 month and get then your favourite device which will probabely be better than HD2 to some extent but be ensured that only some months after your purchasing you will be facing new devices better than the one you've got.
Cheers,
LEE
p.s after having this great peace of hardware/software for one month, I would go for that today again....
It's a great phone, there's nothing out there yet that I would swap this phone for.

Not strictly true. I contacted HTC directly who assured me that there will be a free update for windows mobile 7 on the HD2 when it is released. However, they did say that Windows mobile 7 will not be released until towards the end of 2010. Knowing how these things get delayed it'll be more likely early 2011 then
Thanks for all the quick answers my mind is made up will get one when my contract is up and moving to o2 UK
Just one more thing i have a diamond and the battery life if very bad if the HD2 any better i hope so cos can only use it as a mp3 player for about 3hrs then battery is dead
I've contacted DELL several times about this POS and they always either act stupid or stonewall. They've been jerking our d*cks about this thing for over 6 months now. I'm ready to buy an HD2 just to f'ing spite them.

Are you dumb? It's been released already in the UK, they have basically given release dates for the US and US versions are starting to pop up on ebay.

Like I said - SPITE! I hate a company like that jerking me around. The last time I asked a rep about it (last week), they acted like they didn't know what a Streak was and asked me for a webpage on it. I gave the guy the webpage on Dell's site and he said "oh...we don't have a release date". F'ing assholes.

Haha indeed Dell support acts like they do not know what you are talking about. Then state they have no information. Dell also does not even have an information page for the product other than the press release and 1 blog post (which they never respond to comments).
I too am completely furious about their approach to getting the Streak in the hands of their customers (other than the UK). I personally believe they are tied down with partners (like AT&T and O2) restricting them to just do whatever they wanted and release it. They have confirmed at the D8 that it will release in the US in July. Almost there...
Also, this is all new territory for Dell. Overall the Streak is a beauty and for that, I could care less who made it. I just want one!
jezz ease up. If engadget hadn't managed to find the mini 5 prototype in Asia you wouldn't have known about it for so long. Whats wrong with developing your first piece of hardware in the mobile marketplace so its good and can get help get market share. I mean would you want them to launch a device that is buggy and has issues, I think not.
They have been pretty clear for the last little while on dates and launch details, more clear than some of HTC or Moto launches as of late. Go get your HD2 and enjoy some year old WinMo if thats what you really want.
I'm tired of waiting around to find out whether or not this thing will work on T-mobile. Yeah, I know about the FCC filings for the t-mobile band version but who knows if that even was manufactured.

I hope you're right dude. I had a Touch Pro that had a digitizer failure so now I'm forced back to my 8125 Talk about TORTURE! I was going to just buy another Touch Pro or similar but hate to spend the $$ when the Streak "may" be coming out here in July. I've been drroling over the Streak for a long time, but I REALLY hate Dell's PR and handling of the release of it. That's where Apple has a real edge over other MFR's, they keep the lid on it so people don't get pissed waiting on their products. Michael Dell was smiling like a fool several times over the last 6 months with a Streak as if to say "ha, ha MF's! I have one and you don't!" Makes me want to say "suck it, asshole! I'll take my $$ elsewhere."
Hi guys,
It's worth the wait.
I have had loads of HTC's, last one being my HD2 in February.
I got the Dell Streak yesterday and I thinks its better than any of the HTC's I have had before inc the HD2.
This is mainly due to the Android OS and the marketplace download facility which is way better support than any windows based apps download, or in fact is there any?
I have installed loads of aditional apps, all free and am having lots of fun just as an iphone user would, with ease of use , but all my apps have been free, think I said that but it should be repeated.
I am very gratefull to the XDA team in supporting this device via this forum but the next major step up will be 2.2 hopefully in September.
My brief summary is its not too big but definately bigger that the HD2. The screen of the Dell is actually the size of the outer dimensions of the HD2.
The OS is much better and seems to be a more intuative device all round.
Ther is even an XDA app which saves having to go via the browser and is also very good but for some reason will not accept my login. Very easy to use.
So just wait and don't dive into a HD2 pit even though I love that as well.

Hey John,
What you say is true. This device's software is great, and has a lot of apps backing it up. However, that's solely because of the Android OS. Tell me, is it worth having a 5inch screen for a phone? Wasn't the HD2's 4.3 inch big enough?
HTC also has excellent Android phones that are backed by the same software as the Deal Streak, same goes for Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
On a personal note, I don't see this phone getting as much support as the N1, Desire, or even the X10. Whether from the manufacturer or us, the community . So It all comes down to that, doesn't it---as well as the aesthetics and dimensions of the Streak as well.
I don't see the Streak going far in it's life time.

Two things on this:
1.6 Really? After having 2.2 on my Sexy Nexy, not sure I want to go back down...
And I played with an EVO and an HD2 last night. 4.3 is pretty big. I'm really re-thinking the 5 inch screen...but damn, it's 5 inches! This is the biggest love/hate I have ever had. Ugh.

Hate to say it, but I agree. I'm not sure Dell will roll out releases in a timely manner (I mean come on, this thing is shipping with 1.6???). And I don't see it being a huge success at 5", so I don't think there will be as large of a community offering support.

Hi Guys,
I am not agest but I am 56 and my eysight is therfore going south.
I cannot see any mobile screen without the assistance of reading glasses.
So for me the larger the better. Having said that I think going above 5" may be impractical for a phone. I have not tried it with a bluetooth hedset yet. I have one in the attick somewhere that I have been trying to flog on car boots for 3 yrs.
The streak does go in my jeans pocket as is but I am now looking round for a decent cover that will protect but not add too much to the dimensions. That may be hard.
I have found the streak better than the HD2 in several ways.
First the additional size does help with browsing and able to fit in lots of screen shortcuts for apps/widgets etc.
It does seems faster all round.
Apps install in the native 2gb memory leaving the sd card all for myself. On the HD2 I was installing as many apps onto the SD as would work.
Some of the above is due to android yes
I am patient enough to wait for the 1.6 to 2.2 upgrade and I think Dell will come through as they have a vested interest in getting the 5" working and selling itself before bringing out 7" and 10" versions.
I am new to android but maybe Dell wanted a tried and tested version as their first tablet before going for say v2.1. I dare say thier development team is fairly new.
Android 3 looks good but may not be available on our phones until xmas 2010.
I think there is definately a market for bigger phones if only for chaps of a certain age who are still techies.
The HD2 may well have a larger market but so has the iphone and there are more reasons I don't want one of them then I can discuss here. Apps are a doddle to install on Android compared witrh any windows phone.
I would like to see manila on the Dell but that will never happen as its HTC property. The Android 3 version seems to be offering a decent GUI though.
WOOT WOOT!!!!
I do not care what anyone says. I want a Dell Streak and I want it bad! I just hope this bad boy has some decent gpu performance.
Thanks [email protected] orange didn't get hold of this! All I can say. Selling my TG01 to buy myself out of my 'we sell you a mobile even though there's little or no coverage in your area by our so called vast Orange network' contract.

Agreed
Glimmer of hope???
Per BGR: We have heard from an AT&T source that the Dell Streak is launching on July 19th on AT&T...
- Can't post a link since I'm a 'new member'... just google news it...
I bounced through Dell sales chats a few days ago and finally was told by someone in the Electronics and Accessories dept. that it will be available on their website on 7/16/2010. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen.
Either way, maybe one of the other phones might be better for me (like the Samsung Captivate/Galaxy S series), since it still has a pretty big screen without all the heft of the Streak. Also, the Captivate may receive wider market acceptance and more software support from Samsung as well as developers (at least AT&T and other carriers are promoting this device, which is more than Dell is doing right now).
Johnny,
I am like you old as dirt, and the bigger the better. plus the browsing experience is better when bigger.
I wanted a Huewai S7 which is 7", but not available till the end of July.
Android OS rocks over the HD2 win crap. this is the last win phone I am going to have, selling my HD2 to my son....
Dell has really done a dirty deed to us all, but it should be worth waiting.
Please dont make the mistake of buying the samsung galaxy s, its a pile of s**t, trust me i had 1, just to many problems and samsungs UI is so slow, that it lags like hell, i now have a dell streak and i couldent be happier
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I've posted in Android General here as I reckon it's those of us who have switched OSs who are getting a Second Life(TM) from their HD2s...
Personally, I am finding my phone experience so different from the WinMo days. At that time I was always switching ROMs, always trying to get better use from the phone/solve the glitches, but never quite getting there (altho there is/was fantastic work from the ROM devs here)
But now with Android, I find my experience is great, and glitch-free. I'm still always playing with new ROMs, but only for the excitement of new features rather than to solve annoyances. I've had my HD2 a year and I personally think I could stay with it even another 2 years.
The hardware has been (imo) perfected for the current time (4.3" screen, decent processor, nice form-factor, expandable micro-SD), and all the excitement now is in Google's OS improvements, with perhaps two new iterations of Android planned for this year. Even to the extent that I would be tempted to buy a spare HD2 for future use (as my hardware buttons may be about to give way...)
The only features that could cause me to upgrade are:
- Pico Projector (but as a novelty appealing to my geekiness than anything useful)
- HDMI-out (which again, I think I would get use out of perhaps 4 times a year, and as a novelty the rest of the time)
- Maybe a hardware keyboard a la HD7 Pro, but only if it has Android and was as a free upgrade
But apart from that, here is to an almost perfect hardware phone, now matched by perfect and evolving software. Long live HD2!!
So how long do you think you will stay with the HD2?
well my hd2 felt down several times to the floor and has some scratches at the rubber edges now. further i have the "jitterbug" of the touchscreen since first day (is mostly handable with swype)!
so let me think about your question... i guess i will stick to my hd2 for another year! want to buy a device with a hardware keyboard after that.
I agree with you in many ways smeddy. For me the HD2 is perfect in terms of it's size and layout (personally I do not want a hardware keyboard), the processor is snappy enough, the ability to expand the storage with an sd card is brilliant especially with a2sd+ and such like - for me I would have prefered a 1024TMOUS just for the extra space.
The only thing I can see on the horizon that may tempt me away is the Motorola Atria
For me, the only reason i'd upgrade is for more internal memory, say a 8/16gb device, since i'm feeling threatened by my lack of space. So i guess i'll keep my hd2 for maybe 4 months to a year.
I'll probably be keeping it for another year or so till I am due for re-contract. The phone served me well and its still doing well, probably I will get an andriod tablet if I need to make video call from oversea
will use it till it stops working
Waiting for htc dual core
I'll keep mine until this becomes true
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/2011/01/09/2ghz-motorola-atrix-coming-to-orange-soon/
this year will be the year for Motorola
Holy Shi# that thing is sick. I seen one of the devs talk about that phone on irc. Never knew what it was.
I bought it relatively late ...Still have it for a year now without a scratch! The phone has served me well. The options between OSs,the design/yes i really like it !/the functions, the hardware, the display...It is perfect! It is now a LeoNANDroid and i like it even better!
I like how the little Apple fanboys mistake it for iPhone4,i like how the people at my provider's store look like that when they see im runnin Linux/Android.Maybe the only thing i miss is 720p recording...So basicaly i will run it till it dies, then il buy anotherone if i can^^.The best spent $400 in my life!
I'll keep it until something better comes along that makes it worth upgrading. The Moto Atrix looks nice, hardware list wise, but I'll skip it due to it being Motorola. Other companies will release an equivalent or better.
Going back to a slide-out keyboard is very tempting as well.
Ill keep hold of mine for a bit, maybe wait for the Desire HD to come down in price, see what Htc bring at the MWC in Feb,in the mean time im happy with it
good opening post.
I love my HD2 on Android (wish it was a TMOUS though with the additional on board mem.)
NAND Android rocks and I love the hardware and (now) software on the phone.
Would just like a better camera with a real flash ... 720p recording?
So at the moment nothing on the market matches it.
GG
Late to the party but i have just ordered one, had a Blackstone up until Christmas and can't resist the tweakability and amount of OS's this thing can deliver!
Can see myself owning it for at least 2 years!
I have been using HD2 for little over a year. I have flashed so many roms on it; I lost count a long time ago. However, the screen started freezing right before the Android NAND boot came out. I still flashed NAND on my phone to see it works and it did but without the touch screen.
I send my phone to HTC for repair last week and it is on the way back. I am planning to keep it for at least another year. The only thing I am missing is a front camera for video chatting and the ability to go 4G. I don’t do a lot of video chatting and the 4G is only available at selected location.
I like everything about this phone! The look, the feel, everything…. I don’t have a reason to change the HD2. The support which is available for the phone out there is incredible. When I get bored with a particular style, I flash a new rom! If we get to a point where we use 4G every day, I might change to a 4G phone. Or they have to invent a phone which will make me breakfast, lunch and dinner!
HD2 is definitely a keeper.
How long do you think you will keep your HD2 ?
That's a question that can only be answered by my wife's wallet
Cheers,

Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
The Atrix does look interesting. Thanks for he heads-up.
I think "use it until it stops working" is the most concise way of stating it
Johncmolyneux - from Northampon! I've followed your work so much on XDA, and never knew you were from my hometown, well from Wellingborough to be exact

BIGUP The Northants!!!
I've been interested in WP7 since it was first unveiled but I held off to see how things panned out. However, my current phone is in an awful state and really needs replacing so I'm thinking maybe it is time to jump ship and check out WP7. I'm really interested in the Omnia 7 and I can get one at a really decent price compared to other WP7 phones. Anyway, I was just wondering how people are getting on with the phone and the OS in general? Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!
Hi there.
Well im still very happy with my Omnia 7, had it for 4 month now. The screen is insaine and with the 16gb version i have at least ok memory. I dare to say that this is the best phone i had. Existence should be pretty long also since the up coming patch Mango, vill accelerate the phone to max speed/potential. So for me buying it rather early, i expect to get a lot of milage on it and probebly a feeling of new phone again.
My friend have a LG Optimus 7 and with NoDo patch onboard, my Omnia smokes his phone in performance.
Now, is ALL good in happy land? Naa, not fully, there are 2 downers on it. Both are related to same problems, my Galaxy SII friend have it also so ita Samsung related accprding to me.
The problem is operator dependble. Here in Sweden Omnia 7 works great on all operators exept our biggest one. Again, my own words, the big one here have exclusives on the Edge network. And it seems Samsung phones have problems with that. So second and last issue is of internet that also gets affected to and gives slow internet loads and buffers.
In short...
Phone is great, the best of em...
Choose operator, or if you say carrier , carfully
Result = Stabile, fast wonderfull phone thats gone make you fall out the chair everytime you start a HD movie in 720p... cant be told. Experience it.
Only WP7 Phones that will be better then a Omnia 7, is probably Nokia. But there no Nokia phones untill Christmas Holidays, so if you cant wait. I higly recommend Omnia 7 above any phone on market.
Now, os wise? All i miss is copy/paste in to phone dialer, after mango there should be no missing for me. But darnit, im typing from my Omnia now and since i cant put it down, ever, my thumbs hurt. So somebody else will have to fill you in on OS experience. But think about choise of carrier and you wont be let down hardware wise. Its super smooth.
Best regards
Mr Nakazul
On my third omnia 7 currently! First two developed faults >.< When it works its a cracking phone!!! The screen is superb. But currently the whole nodo update malarkey is causing so much hasstle! Still on 7008. But this should all pass soon and I still highly recomend
Had mine since release in November and I can't complain about it really.
The only downside for me is the debacle with the updates. I've still not received the 7392 security update and MS have given no date to when Orange customers can expect it which is a bit of a farce.
The handset itself though is great. Gorgeous screen, solid construction, great camera. WP7 is fantastic as well, so responsive and intuitive.
The only other handset i'd look at currently would be the LG Optimus 7.

Agree with all of that , considering debranding to get Mango without a big delay
Im really happy with my Omnia 7 too.
I moved from HTC Touch HD with custom ROM to WP7, and so far do not regret it.
My phone also had a hardware fault, the screen went black after only 1 day.
Since Samsung repaired it (and luckily I got the lates ROM), it is working very reliable. When I got the phone back 2 weeks ago, I connected to Zune, and voila no problems updating to 7392 (I have a Telekom.de branded phone with 16GB).
I found replacements for almost all apps on the Touch HD, only a decent offline navigation app is missing. Navigon Select was preinstalled, but I am on T-Mobile AUSTRIA, so it won't work. Thats somehow stupid, but T-Mobile Austria isnt selling the Omnia 7, so this might be the reason.
