I blacklisted texts from 9016 with Handcent, but it continues to show me texts from that app, notify me of them, and just generally sucks at handling them. I have other issues with this app, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a better app for both blacklisting and for handling texts in general.
Handcent is one of the best (if not the best) messaging apps for Android, but ChompSMS isn't far behind...both are highly customizable...but as far as the 9016 Voicemail texts go....when I was using Cyanogen's rom, nothing could really blacklist the 9016 text...that may be something that he's still working on, even though I could be wrong...
Super private conversation...market, free.
^^^and if that doesn't work, I use extreme call blocker. It's $5.99 on the market. I use it for blocking private and unknown calls but it also has a text messaging blocker. I've been blocking the 9016 texts and this app never notifies you of them.
Only way to truly bock the text is to log into your sprint account and block them there.
Even if you block them from your phone, they are still being sent (and possibly charged for)

SWEET! Thanks! This is perfect.
Bielinsk, you can't block these via logging into the website... they're different.

Yes, that is all you need to do. It's the equivalent of logging into your Sprint account, only much faster more convenient.
how do you unblock after this?

I think you just send another text message to 9999 with "allow" and the number in question instead of "block".

Ok before i used a program like SPB Phone Suite to block phonecalls my question is, Can we block SMS texts from single users ? i would like to be able to block texts and phonecalls from certain people. Is there a way i can add a filter like the filters you find for file types? last resort is getting another huge program like and of the SPB software.
I'm also interested in a feature like this. Quite a few annoying ex-girlfriends that like to text me randomly for no apparent reason.

exactly my point i have the same problem or friends who dont get the hint.
T-Mobile says no
According to T-mobile, there is no way to selectively block SMS messages. This is especially troublesome, given that advertisers (and others I don't care for) are starting to send messages to T-Mo phones using SMS (they know they can't be blocked) and I have to pay for them!
Check out the link in my signature for sms and call filter.

All you have to do (to stop advertising) is reply with: Stop
If you are in the USA:
By law, advertisers have to cease and desist all communications when you tell them to stop. If they don't, its considered harassment and you can file a complaint with the FTC or even sue the company for harassment.
I know this because I was being harassed by an advertiser and I had to file a complaint.

mail me you can ask tmobile to block certain numbers. But i am looking for a phone based application to block sms and calls or hide them and reply with a sms like blocked... that you can selectivly block or unblock. So the sms's will still come just not show. i have unlimited texts so its not a matter of getting the texts i just dont want to be annoyed or called by these people.
lol well if somebody with any knowledge on how to surpress phone calls and or sms/mms's know how to do this maybe they can make a freeware app.... spb phone suite was ok but it is large and alot of the time causes phones to go into a boot loop if you dont remove your memory card.

I found this program it allows to blacklist SMS messages i have not tried put it to use by actually knowing if it works but there is a blacklist feature in it. By category, individual contact, and phone number. For those who are trying to stop getting texts from certain numbers ie 4-5 digit spammers you can infact call tmobile and have a number blocked. i have a family plan and my brother kept texting without a text plan i asked if you can block texts all together and CS said no they can halt from single numbers.
Also once again thanks to all the senior members for all of their help *sarcastic laugh*
Also this allows for exporting and many other features if you view the website of the maker it has SS's

i was going to suggest this. love the app! i just wish it was able to do it without being loaded..but it works so thats what matters!
MAGICALL
Call firewall is ok, but I like magicall myself. You can black specific phone numbers/SMS. Also you can have the program auto respond via sms and you can set it up to ignore/hang up/pick up and hang up on certain numbers. Overall GREAT program.
this should help a bit

do you remeber the days when text messaging was free? my nokia brick was my texting machine back in those days lol, and then it was incoming texts free and you only get charged per outgoing, now tmo and everyone else just charges u for whatever packet goes in and out of your phone these days. since pocket pc's and smartphones are running windows mobile it can intercept calls before it gets to the dialer and intercept texts before it gets into the box, all it does it save you the annoyance of "seeing" the calls come in and will hit ignore for you same with text, but i think you still get charged per incoming text even if sms filter stops it on the phone.

Anyone recommend a decent visual voicemail app ?
I'm aware that t-mobile US do an app for android, but they don't seem to do it in the UK.
Any other apps that are recommended to do the same thing ?
I use Hullomail. Works fine. But the biggest problem is it gives you notifications only via emails. So if you are in an area which has no data connection, you would never come to know if you have a voicemail.
yeah i use hullomail too, its still a bit slow but they are actively working on it.
you can solve the problem of not knowing that you have a message by subscribing to free sms updates in your account, this will text you if you have a missed call or a voicemail.

Are you lloking on the hullomail website or in the app? because i'm talking about the website and inbetween the email and service info tabs is one called notification and the option for sms reminders is there. I have no tab for missed called on the website.
have you setup your provider? i'm with t-mobile possibly the service of sms is only provided in conjunction with them.

Second that! Hullomail sms service works really well for me too.
Also no SMS option, in the UK
this is the answer from andy at hullomail, so you can email them ad they'll enable sms notifications.
Hullo Will,
Yes that is the downside of any data notification mechanism - can't wait for data to be the only carriage so we get 100% coverage .
We are balancing two issues with SMS, usability and expense. Our aim is to keep our service free so we've gradually been limiting the use of SMS as its the single most expensive element of running the service. Today HulloMail is taking over 2M messages a month in voicemails and missed calls and currently growing 20% month on month.
However saying all that we enable SMS on a per request basis -- it can be requested via [email protected]. We will be bundling SMS freely as part of a premium bunch of features which can be switched on and off via the mobile app as and when needed in Q3.
On the background thing we will be adding this functionality. We currently use a mix of web and native views but our plan is to evolve the message list to auto-update in the background -- bare with us on this one
I hope I answered all your questions.
cheers
andy
Thanks Kinkade!
Thumbs up for Hullomail here too.
I've just logged in and I'm fortunate in that I get the option for SMS notifications.
It's probably because I've been using Hullomail since the middle of last year.
Regards,
Dave
Yeah, the HUllo mail guys are awesome, they have always been really quick whenever i've queried summat.
apparently they are growing at 20% per month and process over 2million messages a month. thats the main reason for having to request sms notifications apparently its the biggest cost for them
So my Girlfriend is living in japan for now and she gave me the handy email address that is linked to her phone(blahblah at i.softbank.jp) so i can text her without getting hit with international rates... but the problem is, when i text her from my phone in handcent and the stock messaging app it sends as a MMS... which is annoying because when she replies it sends a lot of sprint mumbo jumbo with it instead of just the text she sent. is there a way to stop the phone from automatically changing my text into a MMS when sending a text to an Email Address??
I don't know the answer to your question, but could I offer suggestions?
You didn't say what kind of phone she has. Is it android? If it is, you could get her a gmail account and use google talk. Another idea could be to have both of you open an account with someplace like msn, aol, icq, yahoo, etc and just use the im program that's on just about every phone I've seen. I would think that way wouldn't rack up international charges.
I'm sure there are other possibilities to communicate relatively quickly without extra charges.
or just use gmail to text the number
or use the google voice app to text/email the number

thanks for the suggestions but... it seems like using gmail wont be as instant since i would have to refresh the app every minute just to see if there was a reply and then with google voice i cant send a text to an email address and sending a text directly to her number wouldn't work because she'll have to break the bank to reply to me since the number is still a US number.
i mean holy *&[email protected]
is a refresh too much to ask for? lol guess you really dont wanna talk to her THAT bad
Internet instant messaging programs don't, or shouldn't, care where on the earth you are as PNG as you are connected to the net.
As for the refresh issue, I'd think it would almost be instant. Maybe a minute or two at the most normally. Your phone does need sync on for your gmail account for the email to come in almost instant

Are you sure that it's your phone that is sending the MMS?
Her carrier in Japan could be converting the email to MMS to send to her phone, and as such, she replies in MMS.

Hmm must be something wrong on my end.
I never get any text alerts from Bank of America and I also try to get text notifications on amazon on when my packages are shipped and I never get those either.
Can't help you with the BofA issue cause I just use their app.
You can try package buddy for your tracking requirements. I can't link it cause I need like 8 posts so you might have to search for it in the marketplace or google "package buddy".
Thanks for the suggestion Roqueez. The text alerts are just a minor thing. It would be convenient if it worked but no major problem if it doesn't.
I also use the official BofA app but I'd like to be able to be notified via text about my balances and such without needing to log into the app.
And for tracking packages, I use this app called Parcels which I'm pretty sure is the same thing as package buddy from the looks of the screen shots.
But yea, I was just seeing why I can't receive text alerts from certain sites.
I cant seem to find a way to block calls & SMS ( no sending to voicemail or archived messages) Im looking for a method similar to what CM roms offer where I can have both blocked and no notification or even a trace that a call/SMS came from the said numbers. Is this possible on the stock rom w/o 3rd party apps ?
There is no real block function in stock (unless the latest update to the phone app doesn't send it to voicemail). Best is to use a 3rd party app.
Mr Number has worked for my mother.
Actually there is a work around in Google Contacts app. Check the guide below:
http://www.thecellguide.com/nexus6phowtoblock.php
You can always use truecaller.

The stock phone app (2.3.12) now supports this.
I have not received any SMS after blocking (which I shouldnt, so not 100% sure about that), but I have seen posted elsewhere that SMS are also blocked.
EDIT: so I tried, it doesnt seem to block SMS. However you can block SMS in the messenger app. You still receive the message(s), but you get no notification and the messages are archived. Not exactly what you are looking for but, almost.
Id prefer not to use any 3rd party app and just the stock apps or maybe an xposed module that can do so?
At least the calling part is taken care off the SMS part is something id prefer not to have anything stored on my phone just like how CM does it but I guess I have to live with that for now.
