Hi guys my Mrs got a new Desire Z today and the bluetooth name on the phone was HTC Vision. Just pointing it out, I thought it was interesting. Specailly as it has HTC Sence and all the other HTC goodies loaded. I wonder at which point the phones become g2 and desire z's.
Yep i noticed this too
And if you sync with exchange using the HTC mail app, the device name is htcvision (not something you can change).
This was the code name i believe..
Vision was the HTC codename for internal use. Since release it has been rebranded as the DZ and G2. Much like how the touch pro 2 was codenamed the rhodium.

(see hehe)
Yes - my TyTN II was codenamed "Kaiser"
What's also weid is when you are on a call, you can press a button to change between audio through the phone, speakerphone or any bluetooth headsets..
for the phone itself, it's listed as "HTC Vision" - and you can't change that
The ROMs for the G2 and DZ both have "Vision" in their names too. They are both the "HTC Vision" phones. The G2 and DZ are identical apart from different radio bands and running different stock ROMs.

is the new tmobile g2 also called the desire?
The G2 is the same hardware as the HTC Desire Z, which is different than the HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD.
The G2 runs without HTC Sense, whereas the Desire Z has a new version of HTC Sense.
They probably also use different cellular frequencies, but I'm not sure.
Edit: see this thread, there are more differences: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793338
So buying my new G2 was bitter sweet. I thought since it was an Htc, it would have the same capabilities as my hero. To my surprise it dosen't have the same functionality. I went to HTC website and see they have the Desire which is the same as my phone except for it has HTC Sense capabilities.
You have a non-Sense phone, the G2.
There is a dedicated forum for the G2, as this is the hero forum. You will need to follow developments over there to see if it's every possible to use a sense ROM on it.
HTC provides a Sense service (htcsense.com) for the HTC Desire HD/Z.
Is any of you using this service on your Android HTC HD2?
I'm worried HTC will collect some sort of info and detect my phone isn't a genuine Desire HD/Z, because in the future (when I actually will buy a HD/Z or whatever) I would still be able to use that account.
So.. Did any of you create an account at htcsense.com and using it without any problems on your Android HTC HD2?
So, I've been from the Motorola Droid 1 to the Samsung Epic 4g, now the tmobile g2. I've had it for 2 months now and until I installed CM7 R1 I never realized it had an FM radio. I saw the app, but I know CyanogenMod is meant for many phones, so I humored myself and opened the app, plugged in headphones and what do you know? Denver NPR!
I guess I never RTFM so I was wondering, did anyone else miss this feature or am I the only one?
BTW - I think this is a great thing, because some places I go I don't have data or even voice on t-mobiles spotty coverage.. so it's something to keep me company
A lot of the qualcomm chips and radios have have had FM radio in there but they never took the time to make it work. Cyanogenmod simply just made it work. You often see them in htc sense devices but nothing on stock.

The radio works on the Desire Z version in the UK. Don't use it much myself cause my mp3 player does the same thing and let's me record to the sd card. In fact, most HTC's in the UK have radio since at least the WinMo Touch series.

Don't know about version numbers, but at MWC 10, they said that we got the new version of HTC Sense, which was then: the 2nd version.
And then we got Froyo which updated it to some stuff, I'm NOT SURE, but we may be on par with the Gratia's/Aria's Froyo: an update to the second version of HTC Sense.
Like I already said, I don't know the numbers, but there's also the Sense with the Desire Z and Desire HD, as well with all the new phones that just came out at CES. So the third version? Maybe that.
And then the new Facebook phones and the newer versions of last year's high-end phones got updated at MWC 11 this year, so I'm guessing that's a new version of Sense as well. Flyer also got a remixed version for its software.
The latest few phones (including Desire HD) are "Sense 3" IIRC, not sure what version Legend has.
i checked my htc sense version via the app manager and it shows v1.00. I cant understand. My phone is on 2.2 , build 3.15. What are the latest features of the new sense ?
Htcsense.com is one of the main features I used on my DHD
