Well looks like my time with the slide is done. Gonna sell it but not sure if I'm allowed to mention that. Loved every bit of the phone but went and played with the vibrant and couldn't help but fall in love with it. It's been fun!
What did you like about the vibrant? Been thinking bout getting one of those to try out.

My friend just got a Vibrant and its damn fast and hella thin...
Also the screen is awesome!!!
i played with the vibrant for a few hours last night and i will say the screen res was absolutely to die for, but really other than that it's an iphone running android with live wallpapers and that's just not for me. it certainly has the specs to be a good phone and it's nice looking if you are the iphone type, but it's "backed" by samsung and that's a killer for me. had HTC made the phone it would be a whole different game at this point

Don't be fooled by the Vibrant. Samsungs track record with cell phones is not good at all! The phone is hot now, but what will happen when it's time for firmware updates? Let me tell you, Samsung definitely doesn't stay up-to-date on that. You will see better phones from more reliable vendors come out here later on this year and the beginning of next year!

So I played with the Vibrant and it is basically Tmobile version of a better iphone. I actually liked the interface and the graphics are awesome, BUT when I did a speed test of the Vibrant and my Mytouch Slide, to my surprise, my Slide did better both times on the upload and download. Both phones were running on the 3G network. How crazy is that?

Differences in radios, antennas, firmware, software, etc. can all play a role in the maximum speed you will be able to obtain.

This is very true, and I am guilty of assuming that the Vibrant was going to be faster. However, I was pleasantly surprised when my Slide came out on top! It made me appreciate it that much more.

I'm a current alltel subscriber who's service is being transitioned to at&t.
I have a hero and love it, but unfortunately am forced to switch phones when at&t takes over. The best phone they are offering for free in exchange for the Hero is the Aria. I just wanted to drop by here and see what you aria users think of the phone? Should I take it for free and keep my current alltel rates until the end of my contract and save some money, or should I sign a new contract with at&t and upgrade to the captivate?
I think the aria is an excellent device. Very capable, once rooted very customizable, and with its small form factor very pocket-able.
Don't let the specs scare you off. I came from an iphone 3g, and really don't miss the extra inch (or whatever) of screen. Runs swype and live wallpapers like a champ on cyanogen mod 6.
Hope you enjoy whichever device you decide on.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
The captivate has some problems that probably aren't gonna get fixed. Captivate is good for media but its mediocre as a phone and GPS.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
The Captivate already got an update for the GPS issues, though I haven't heard how good it is.
Seems kind of a simple question though. Are you happy with your Hero? The Aria will be a slight upgrade. It'll be a smoother experience, but largely the same as you currently have. If you feel like you've been constrained then you need to step up to the Captivate.
From what I heard the Gps fix didn't fix much. Idk tho cause I don't own a captivate. All I ever hear about the captivate is lag fix, browser fix, fix this, fix that... seems too much work.

My son has a CDMA Hero on Sprint and he is very jealous of my Aria. The screen size is the same, but the Aria has a faster processor and is a lot thinner and easier to pocket than the Hero is.
I have to agree with everyone here; the Aria will be a very smart choice that I don't think you will regret once you get it.
Regards,
Tom
Ended up taking the free option and the Aria... figured if I'm unhappy with it my contract will be up and June and I can re-evaluate from there.
But from what i've read here and elsewhere I look forward to my aria
I miss the Super amoled screen
Pros:
FFC
HSPA+
LED FLASH
FM RADIO
Physical Buttons + Dedicated Camera Button
Great build quality
Cons:
No Super Amoled Screen
No 16GB Internal Memory
No more Bionix :/
I don't regret it as much but going from a Super Amoled screen to a standard screen really made me realize how great my Sammy Vibe really was! I took it for granted!! You will be missed! (EXCEPT THE GPS ISSUE)
Well i jumped ship.. can't wait for the SGS2 though! Hope to catch up with some of you guys later in the SGS2/HTC SENSATION threads!
Goodbye!
Especially you s15274n. You have been really helpful! Without you knowing. lol
The bionix team and whitehawkxx wish you guys the best.
heading over the the MT4G/Glacier forum now. Peace!
Yeah i feel you man. My wife got a Mytouch 4G and its really nice, i mean really nice, but the Samsung Vibrant has the better screen with the Internal Storage that came way in handy for me. I rooted her mytouch 4g up already and put on some Gingerbread which i love with everything working, and the Vibrant still dont have everything working on Gingerbread. Well i guess ill be seeing you over there. I go from the Vibrant forums to the Mytouch 4g forums, switching out like crazy. =D

Yeah true its just GPS not working. But also the Battery drain on the phone is terrible, which is really irritating. But once battery drain is fixed then i'll probably be back on CM7 or MIUI.

Wait, I have an extended battery, so I completely forgot. *facepalm*
Sucks, but if I didn't have this battery, I always have a place to charge the phone. And I heard the drain isn't as bad as it used to be.

I agree with you, but since i didn't buy a new phone and simply traded i feel that jumping ship wasn't a bad choice. I still plan to upgrade!
Also the MT4G can be resold for a higher price than the Vibrant on craigslist.
BTW... WINNING!
To any CM7 users of vibrant and another phone with CM7(nexus one,MT4g,G2 etc.) are there any other difference in speed? I'm using Cm7 on vibrant but i can't compare it cause it's my only phone.
I picked up a g2 for cheap but still have my vibrant. I don't know what all the fuss was about. This doesn't feel any faster than my kb5 vibrant, and the "build quality" just makes it feel heavy and bulky. Its a decent phone overall, but not any better overall than my vibrant.

Traded the Mytouch 4G for a G2.. G2 is a way better phone than the Mytouch 4G. Some people don't miss keyboards.. but you are crazy not to have a keyboard!! Bought the game gripper and wow.. just wow. The G2 is an overall fun phone and great speed/development/great everything!! Even the hinges on this unit are amazingly stronger than the other g2's i have used.
I really like my wifes mt4g. I began to dislike my G2 before I sold it. It felt like a phone meant for someone that doesn't know how to dress themself. It's hard to explain.

Not quite sure what about the SGS 4G would renew your interest in comparison to the Vibrant, unless you are in a 4G area and just really CRAVE the extra bandwidth so much that you won't miss the internal 16GB from the Vibrant (4G only has 1GB internal).. And of course, FFC.... which really AFAIC is a "bell and whistle" that 99% of people use once and never use again.

Add the bad/good screens, dust under the screen issues, bad eMMC chips that are said to cause bricking, creaky buttons on a few units, and off centered FFCs on a few. I wanted to trade as well, but a look at the forums steered me right away.
Well, the only phone I'm moving to when I get the chance is the SGSII, no matter what.
I love HTC phones but plenty of those are CDMA only and that doesnt work in my country :[
I bought the mytouch4g back in January and it was so great to have a phone that worked well right out the box and every custom gingerbread rom I've put on it has ran smoothly. However, I find myself constantly going back to my Vibrant. I miss the screen and I feel like the Vibrant has a lot more devs working on roms. I was just about to sell my Vibrant so I could have a few extra bucks when I read about the GPS fix. If I can find the perfect Gingerbread rom I will be keeping my vibrant until Samsung releases a dual-core phone for T-Mobile.
I see the last thread with questions like this was from March, so I just wanted to get the latest about the EPIC...
Are there GPS, wifi, or keyboard issues or these are fixed by one or multiple ROMS available?
Are many devs still working on this device or had it been somewhat abandoned?
is CM7 pretty good without major bugs ?
will the battery last a full day with most ROMs with regular use (i.e. checking email, some web browing, maybe an hour of music streaming, etc)
Netflix works on some ROMs, right?
I have a Hero with CM7 and I like, but amazon still has (and BB just ended yesterday) free EPIC for upgrades, so thinking about getting one. I would get the EVO, but it's still $150 almost anywhere and at that price I would rather pay $200 for the E3D...but from $0 to $200 there's still a big difference
Thanks in advance

1. No problems with those in almost any ROM.
2. Devs are still around and work is still being done.
3. CM7 is still in Alpha 4 but its being worked on by TeamHacksung.
4. Cant really answer about batter since there are more factors than the ones you mentioned like signal quality in your area. Battery has gotten better though.
5. Yes, Netflix works on some ROMs.
Side note: Hero development was and still is pretty big compared to the Epic, dont expect the same amount of development for it.

The Epic is a very awesome device and is adequte for your your eveyday uses on top of mods. The Epic has tons of ROMs, themes, and other customization tools that have been worked on the past few months which made many of them "bug free". The full QWERTY keyboard comes in hand which really makes this device "EPIC".
If you are a real hard core developer and wouldn't mind living without the keyboard then I would recommend the Nexus which is very simular but with monster hardware, like the dual core processor for increased speed and performance. The down fall to these new devices is that there has not been as much development put into them yet, so customization is not as optional compared to the "Epic". The epic is an advance telecommunicational device not a cell phone but unfortunately there are more cell phone users on the sprint network that don't understand the power of the Epic. I hope this clearifies your decision. I hope that you decied to live the "Epic Life".

Nexus S has dual core? Since when?
Also, Hero has more development since it was one of the first Android phones for Sprint, it was one of the nicest ones for its time and it was an HTC phone. Samsung tends to keep away developers. After the Evo came out, a few devs jumped ship to that but there were too many devs to let the phone die. Hell, look at Deca, I was so happy when he said he got an Epic knowing all the stuff he did for the Hero, I still cant wait what he can do for the Epic.

The keyboard was a big factor for me in choosing the Epic over the Evo. I still think I made the right choice, but I *never* use the keyboard. It's just too easy to type with swype. Whenever I ultimately decide to upgrade, it will be to a phone with no keyboard.

If you root it, its a good phone.
GPS Aids is a must, GPS is golden now.
4G only works outside...
The Viper Rom is the best, just use Root Uninstaller to delete the teams bloatware.
Dont overclock (only fun for benches), its not worth the battery lose/glitches.. Just use setcpu to change the governor to Performance.. Alot of games play good with Performance gov. and clocks set to as low as 400 mhz.
Only complaint: No gyro. Dont give me any lines about this! Ok, so I switched to Sprint from Verizon for the Nexus S 4G. I know people with Evo's and they have never complained about signal issues in my area. So I get my NS and immediately I have signal issues. Can't make phone calls or send text and forget about surfing the internet. It was so bad that the battery would drain in 5-6 hours because I couldn't get a signal. I am still within my 30 days so I am considering switching to the EVO 3D or even going back to Verizon. I have tried updating to all the newest PRL's and none of them made any difference. That is until I switched to the hybrid Verizon PRL 00001. I now get great signal, can connect to 3G wherever and have had excellent battery life. My fear is that if I keep the phone I will no doubt go over the 300mb supposedlt unlimited amount of data roaming. How long can I do this before Sprint finds out? Should I even try exchanging the phone, or just switch the to 3VO? I love the NS4G, but obviously it is no good to me if I can't use it at all and when I can use it I risk being kicked out of contract. I've read threads on Sprint doing it, but how often does it happen?

Personally, I decided to hold onto the phone, and patiently wait for a fix. They are aware of the problem. The phone's just too darn good to switch to a different one.
You're on your own with the prl hack. I just got kicked off a different carrier for roaming too much, and I wasn't even using a custom prl.

No, actually you told the OP that HE doesn't want the 3D.
The 3D is a pretty awesome phone. Major upgrade over the Evo 4G. It's worth taking a look at. No major downsides to it, really. The 3D is gimmicky and destroys battery life, but it's something you can leave off all the time and never think about.
While I appreciates "everyone's" opinions I was more looking for answers on sprint dropping people for data roaming. I've used 200mb in a week and that is not downloading anything
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
No one can really answer your question. If you're roaming basically all the time, you will probably get a warning at some point. If your Sprint service is that bad, it's probably for the best anyway - gets you out of a contract and lets you move to another carrier/.

This ^^ is actually what I said. And whats the point of a 3D phone if you have 3D off all the time? I would really rather have the OG Evo. Or the Photon, which will be a way better phone than the 3D.
I actually know someone that has had the 3D since Monday and also has a NS4G, and he 100% confirms that the NS4G is a better phone. He is a member here but I wont throw him under the bus. Hopefully he will see this thread and share with you guys some of the things he has shared with me. I did ask him last night via Gtalk if his opinion of the 3D had changed since he initially told me he didnt like it. His exact words were, "no, I just cant make the jump".
In what way could the Evo 4G be considered a superior device to the Evo 3D? Dual-core CPU, a real GPU, twice the RAM, more onboard storage, higher resolution display.
Never said it was superior.

I suppose I was assuming that you would consider the phone you prefer to be the superior phone.
No. I usually would but in this case I'm going with the one that will piss me off the least.

What about the Evo 3D would piss you off? What about it is inferior to the Evo 4G besides the fact that you can't put a custom ROM on it yet?
ehhh i kind of agree, not that its inferior or the evo is superior, but that its just seems gimmicky and well for lack of a better word.... useless. the whole 3D is a lot of smoke and mirrors. i would rather know theres solid hardware inside doing a solid job....like say reception.
some would say filet mignon is a superior cut, i on the other hand would prefer a nice ribeye any day. now im stavin. hey earl...........

While I appreciates "everyone's" opinions I was more looking for answers on sprint dropping people for data roaming. I've used 200mb in a week and that is not downloading anything

You would need to be pulling gbs of data while roaming consistently to be tossed
