outta the game - myTouch 3G Slide General

Well looks like my time with the slide is done. Gonna sell it but not sure if I'm allowed to mention that. Loved every bit of the phone but went and played with the vibrant and couldn't help but fall in love with it. It's been fun!

What did you like about the vibrant? Been thinking bout getting one of those to try out.

My friend just got a Vibrant and its damn fast and hella thin...
Also the screen is awesome!!!

i played with the vibrant for a few hours last night and i will say the screen res was absolutely to die for, but really other than that it's an iphone running android with live wallpapers and that's just not for me. it certainly has the specs to be a good phone and it's nice looking if you are the iphone type, but it's "backed" by samsung and that's a killer for me. had HTC made the phone it would be a whole different game at this point

Don't be fooled by the Vibrant. Samsungs track record with cell phones is not good at all! The phone is hot now, but what will happen when it's time for firmware updates? Let me tell you, Samsung definitely doesn't stay up-to-date on that. You will see better phones from more reliable vendors come out here later on this year and the beginning of next year!

So I played with the Vibrant and it is basically Tmobile version of a better iphone. I actually liked the interface and the graphics are awesome, BUT when I did a speed test of the Vibrant and my Mytouch Slide, to my surprise, my Slide did better both times on the upload and download. Both phones were running on the 3G network. How crazy is that?

Differences in radios, antennas, firmware, software, etc. can all play a role in the maximum speed you will be able to obtain.

This is very true, and I am guilty of assuming that the Vibrant was going to be faster. However, I was pleasantly surprised when my Slide came out on top! It made me appreciate it that much more.

Thinking of buying the Mytouch 3g Slide

Is it faster than the droid? Because right now I have the mytouch 3g and it is very slow. I saw my friend's droid and it is pretty fast. So I was wondering if the Mytouch 3g Slide is comparable to the droid.
I think its better the keyboard is way better its more spaced out. You will be suprised on how fast this phone is it really does fly its a great phone I haven't missed my mytouch 3g one bit!

Its way faster than a regular mytouch I came from a cliq xt and before that a regular mytouch sure this phone does not have a 1ghz processor but I have experienced no lag what-so-ever in my opinion I think you should definetly get this phone if not a nexus one if u can, but this phone will get froyo and altough I know there are better phones out there I will stick to this phone for a while, so yes you should get the mytouch 3g slide, and it is faster than the droid plus the slide has awesome features like faves(20) people and has the genius button so you should get this phone

lol please dont tell people they should get the phone because of the genius button. That is such a waste of a hardware button, I could see it being an icon on the screen but not a button. I attempted to make use of it by trying to use it when ever possible but in the end its faster to just do it your self than try and get the crappy voice recognition software to actually do what you want it to. When I finally get around to rooting I will be making the button an "end call" button.

reason not to dump your G2 for the mytouch hd

Mytouch 4g just has a ffc but nothing to die for same phone without a keyboard and a .1 inch bigger screen
Im keeping my G2 because my last MyTouch 3g 1.5 was a piece of junk.
Also, you get stock Android with the G2.
It appears that the reason you're giving is an opinion. Does this REALLY require a new thread?
There are some people here that would use a front facing camera, myself included.
Also, it's been said that the new mytouch is very well built, and running a next generation snapdragon cpu. Spec-wise, this will be a very nice phone.
well actually i like how thin the new mytouch 4g is and the OS runs pretty well. Plus u get the wifi tethering, uma, and has htc sense ui on top.
at least wen i press the trackpad it will allow me to unlock the screen instead of pressing the power button up top.
also the ffc is not very good video was choppy and laggy...it is using the quik app same as the one on the EVO
the material on the mytouch is not good as the G2

FFC helps future-proof your phone since more devices will ship with FFCs in the future. Vanilla android is more of a reason to keep the G2 since we SHOULD receive updates faster than skinned versions of android. The physical keyboard is nice but it definitely isn't needed by most people or necessary for most applications to function (can''t think of anything outside of emulators).

*buzzer sound* Nope, it's not truly Sense UI. It's Sense with a custom skin on TOP of Sense, the Expresso skin that came on the Slide. So it's really a bastardized Sense. *vomits*

Cool man. You treat that g2 like its your all. Will I use the ffc? Ehh most likely not, don't care much for video chatting. But I have the option Am I going to get the mytouch 4g since I already know what the g2 has to offer? Ehh hell yea. The only reason why my g2 is rooted is because I tether heavily. If the mytouch already have it as a native app, why not.

Because it's not based on the stock android. Please someone, correct me if i'm wrong, but the tethering option on the MT4G is the one T-Mo will use to charge you $15 a month on for using. With the G2 you are currently tethering for free without the providers discretion.
Native tethering on the MT4G, (and possibly on the G2 from the OTA) will mean T-Mobile will be charging that tethering fee just like the other carriers.
That's why they are implementing the 5GB data cap so even if you are tethering on a rooted phone, you won't cost them tons of money.

Mt4g for a vibrant good trade or not so much?

T mobile offered me a mt4g for 250$ should I take it ill have to sell this one to get the money for it I like the vibrant but want that video chat and fast speed im not sure what I should do stay with a phone I can mod the hell out of or go with one I seemingly won't have too? I currently use both devices, the MT4G definitely has better battery life than my Vibrant. Data speed wise they are both about the same. In an HSPA+ coverage area I get ~6mbps down on both. I don't think you will see much greater speed than that for awhile on the T-Mo network with either device. Although theoretically the MT4G should get faster when the network opens up some more. The video chat is cool but I don't personally use it. I struggle with the screen on the MT4G after using the Vibrant for so long. Hope that helps. For me thee only solution has been to have both!

Dont mind paying more for a better carrier, personally.
And making this thread serves no purpose.
The vibrant forum is filled with WorksForMe™ kiddies.
Harder hands would demolish the plastic Vibrant...
And I agree those here give the MT4g way too much undeserved slack. The phone's only megatives compared to the Vibrant are the screen (subjective), screen size,.and internal storage size. Maybe the SoC is marginally worse. Almost everything else is superior. Sammy botched the Galaxy S.

Unless you've crushed your phone in your hand without trying, you're one of those "soft hand" people, at least by your logic. This phone is plenty tough, maybe not scuff resistant but it certainly isn't any weaker than any other normal phone out.
And I've been with tmobile for 6 years and have had very little trouble. Sometimes I'd wish for wider coverage, but that's my only gripe on the road. Maybe the coverage in your area is poor, but I've lived in every corner of texas and have had coverage, no dropped calls.

That has to be hyperbole right? I've had my vibrant for some months now. The amount of lag I have experienced has been sparse and when apparent, understandable if not completely tolerable. It has never crossed my mind to complain about the lag with this phone. What are you guys trying to do with your phones that you are experiencing this kind of stuff with?
I'm seriously beginning to think there are some wildly different vibrant experiences out there. There have to be, because that is just not the case for myself. I have installed lagfixes before and seen no discernible real world speed difference besides those seen in benchmarks.
It's got to be one of two things. Some vibrants are messed while others are not. Or. Half of you people are insanely impatient and will put up with nothing but absolute perfection. Something i've yet to witness on any phone, be it iPhone or HTC.
I don't think I've ever bought an electronic device with some kind of firmware that I haven't at least looked into hacking, rooting, cracking or whatever you want to call it.
Since I've had my phone its been awesome. GPS works, its fast, its modded and I do what I want with it. Anybody that buys a Vibrant and doesn't root it doesn't have a clue what they are missing. Not that if you don't root it you don't have a clue, but your are simply missing out. Now to leave this phone for well something that isn't even close is a shame.
I've played with what your replacing it with and honestly I'm not sure what you are thinking, but then again you dumped your Vibrant so I'm really not sure what you are thinking. My buddy and his iPhone4 wishes he could play the videos I play and had the freedom we have. Man it all starts at root.

can't get a cheap Nexus S out of retention because of the GPS issues.
If I don't like the Mytouch4g I'll certainly sell it along with the Vibrant, and buy a Nexus S off contract.
But, I've been hearing the Nexus S has the same flaky GPS issues too.....so meh
After modding my Vibrant with 2.2 I wouldn't want any other phone right now, especially not a 1st generation myTouch 4g which can have plenty of it's own problems.
I just rooted my wife's myTouch slide and what a PITA that was compared to the Vibrant.

Traded away my Vibrant for a Mytouch 4G.. and i almost regret it!

I miss the Super amoled screen
Pros:
FFC
HSPA+
LED FLASH
FM RADIO
Physical Buttons + Dedicated Camera Button
Great build quality
Cons:
No Super Amoled Screen
No 16GB Internal Memory
No more Bionix :/
I don't regret it as much but going from a Super Amoled screen to a standard screen really made me realize how great my Sammy Vibe really was! I took it for granted!! You will be missed! (EXCEPT THE GPS ISSUE)
Well i jumped ship.. can't wait for the SGS2 though! Hope to catch up with some of you guys later in the SGS2/HTC SENSATION threads!

Wanting always is better than the having.......... patience

I agree with you, but since i didn't buy a new phone and simply traded i feel that jumping ship wasn't a bad choice. I still plan to upgrade!
Also the MT4G can be resold for a higher price than the Vibrant on craigslist.
BTW... WINNING!
To any CM7 users of vibrant and another phone with CM7(nexus one,MT4g,G2 etc.) are there any other difference in speed? I'm using Cm7 on vibrant but i can't compare it cause it's my only phone.
I picked up a g2 for cheap but still have my vibrant. I don't know what all the fuss was about. This doesn't feel any faster than my kb5 vibrant, and the "build quality" just makes it feel heavy and bulky. Its a decent phone overall, but not any better overall than my vibrant.

Traded the Mytouch 4G for a G2.. G2 is a way better phone than the Mytouch 4G. Some people don't miss keyboards.. but you are crazy not to have a keyboard!! Bought the game gripper and wow.. just wow. The G2 is an overall fun phone and great speed/development/great everything!! Even the hinges on this unit are amazingly stronger than the other g2's i have used.
I really like my wifes mt4g. I began to dislike my G2 before I sold it. It felt like a phone meant for someone that doesn't know how to dress themself. It's hard to explain.
My Vibrant is starting to get old, but I have a sgs4g on the way that should renew my interest in the galaxy line.

Not quite sure what about the SGS 4G would renew your interest in comparison to the Vibrant, unless you are in a 4G area and just really CRAVE the extra bandwidth so much that you won't miss the internal 16GB from the Vibrant (4G only has 1GB internal).. And of course, FFC.... which really AFAIC is a "bell and whistle" that 99% of people use once and never use again.

Add the bad/good screens, dust under the screen issues, bad eMMC chips that are said to cause bricking, creaky buttons on a few units, and off centered FFCs on a few. I wanted to trade as well, but a look at the forums steered me right away.
Well, the only phone I'm moving to when I get the chance is the SGSII, no matter what.
I love HTC phones but plenty of those are CDMA only and that doesnt work in my country :[
I bought the mytouch4g back in January and it was so great to have a phone that worked well right out the box and every custom gingerbread rom I've put on it has ran smoothly. However, I find myself constantly going back to my Vibrant. I miss the screen and I feel like the Vibrant has a lot more devs working on roms. I was just about to sell my Vibrant so I could have a few extra bucks when I read about the GPS fix. If I can find the perfect Gingerbread rom I will be keeping my vibrant until Samsung releases a dual-core phone for T-Mobile.
