Well looks like my time with the slide is done. Gonna sell it but not sure if I'm allowed to mention that. Loved every bit of the phone but went and played with the vibrant and couldn't help but fall in love with it. It's been fun!
What did you like about the vibrant? Been thinking bout getting one of those to try out.

My friend just got a Vibrant and its damn fast and hella thin...
Also the screen is awesome!!!
i played with the vibrant for a few hours last night and i will say the screen res was absolutely to die for, but really other than that it's an iphone running android with live wallpapers and that's just not for me. it certainly has the specs to be a good phone and it's nice looking if you are the iphone type, but it's "backed" by samsung and that's a killer for me. had HTC made the phone it would be a whole different game at this point

Don't be fooled by the Vibrant. Samsungs track record with cell phones is not good at all! The phone is hot now, but what will happen when it's time for firmware updates? Let me tell you, Samsung definitely doesn't stay up-to-date on that. You will see better phones from more reliable vendors come out here later on this year and the beginning of next year!

So I played with the Vibrant and it is basically Tmobile version of a better iphone. I actually liked the interface and the graphics are awesome, BUT when I did a speed test of the Vibrant and my Mytouch Slide, to my surprise, my Slide did better both times on the upload and download. Both phones were running on the 3G network. How crazy is that?

Differences in radios, antennas, firmware, software, etc. can all play a role in the maximum speed you will be able to obtain.

This is very true, and I am guilty of assuming that the Vibrant was going to be faster. However, I was pleasantly surprised when my Slide came out on top! It made me appreciate it that much more.

Appears T-Mobile starting tomorrow is rolling out 2.2 for the Mytouch 3g. Hopefully shortly after the rest of the mytouch line will get 2.2. Still kinda weird to leave out the Mytouch 3g 3.5mm jack, Mytouch 3g fender, and mytouch slide.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/t-mo...ceiving-android-2-2-froyo-beginning-tomorrow/
I'm guessing they had to start somewhere and the oldest phone should get the first update. They gave it a two week window, so hopefully the rest of them will get it next, with the Slide getting it last around mid November.

This must be a joke. I don't understand why the 1st myTouch would get the update before us and not only that, the phone is getting live wallpaper? Its a rumor.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Why wouldn't the older phone get the update first? (Plus the espresso is most likely the only reason its taking so long, if we were on stock then we'd probably already have it or it would be coming to us tomorrow like the original mytouch).
If you were using an older phone you'd be complaining the newer phones getting update before the old ones.
The 3G came out before the Slide, Ounc. How do you figure it's a joke?

Because what company you know takes a step backwards? No offense to mytouch 3g owners, but I have never seen anything like this. Has Apple ever updated. The old Iphones before the more current Iphones? Has. Windows done that? I could understand if the phones were 2 completely different phones. Like a Evo and G1. The mytouch 3g and mytouch slide are the same line of phones. The difference between these 2 are, the slide has a keyboard, better ram, better cpu, better camera, etc. Why wouldn't the more top of the line mytouch not get the update first? I completely understand that the mytouch 3g has been stuck on 1.6 for a while. I've had 2 mytouch 3g's. I stepped away from them thinking that if I buy the newer version (slide) I would be more up to date with both hardware and software. If I would of known then I would of just kept the mytouch 3g and wait awhile before I upgrade. How would the g2 owners feel if they knew that the g1 was getting Ginger Bread before them?

The reason is mytouch is getting vanilla froyo not that damned slide ui that tmobile threw on there. So they don't have to do all these changes they can just ship stock froyo. So its easier to ship.

I'm assuming that its getting Espresso because I read that it said something about changes to the UI plus there was mention in the past about the 3g getting the Genious button (virtual). I think the mytouch line is all switching over to Espresso if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think it's espresso sense purely based on the bullet point of having dedicated phone, all apps and browser shortcuts. That sounds like stock froyo. Espresso, at least with our 2.1 version, has dedicated phone, all apps and faves shortcuts.
Just a thought; everyone is so excited about a 2.2 update, I wonder if it's 2.2 or 2.2.1?

I don't see why not. The only thing that kept the G1's from running sense ROM's was the stock SPL was too small. HTC changed that for the original mytouch on up. A quick search in the magic/sapphire forum showed they ported it. It may be a stripped down version of it, like not having "my modes" themes.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to port it from the myTouch hd/4G/ whatever the hell they call it next. With a 3.7" (or is it 3.8") screen, it'll be HDPI whereas the Slide is MDPI screen resolution. That's why we haven't been able to port ROMs from the Desire or any other HDPI device.

Are you sure they weren't talking about the original mytouch? The timeline for that phone was that the update was to done by the 25th and there have been no mentions of the Slide update anywhere else, or the other versions of the mytouch, fender, 1.2. I don't think the rep understood you or got things confused. I wouldn't bet on an update starting then.

Could've sworn they were the same size screens, guess my source was wrong.
But yea that would make it a lot harder to port over, but seeing as it is espresso then perhaps someone will be more interested in porting it and take that time to make it happen for us, that is if we don't see it for the mts for a while after the HD release.
Although Google could easily scale everything from HDPI to MDPI with the HD Espresso. They are far more experienced with resources so it shouldn't take that long for them.
I don't know, looks like it's still a waiting game of "You'll see it soon" with no word on how soon is.

Interesting thought ... I wonder how much Espresso Sense has to do with the delay in development for the Slide. Also, I wonder how much (if any) Sense the original mytouch will get with the update. Additionally, how could a Slide with 2.2 be a threat to the mytouch HD? Features like a front facing camera, no keyboard, second gen 1Ghz chip and larger screen would probably be enough for the HD to hold its own against the Slide with 2.2. That said ... you may be on to something with your theory.

Idk about you, but with the speed of the slide i could do without the 1ghz processor. Slightly larger screen? Not enough to make too big a difference. No keyboard? No thx. Now it comes down the the ffc and 2.2 with sence. That is about the only real thing that could compell me.
Lets just hypothetically say the average slide user thought like me, theres just not enough to push us to drop a few hundred dollars on a new phone after just buying one 6 months ago (if that). If my slide had 2.2 with sence right now, i would be prefectly content to wait till the next mytouch that could really blow the slide out of the water and would laugh at the thought of buying the hd right now.
I honestly see myself holding onto the mytouch for at least another year, especially when 2.2 with sence arrives.

I always thought that having a physical keyboard would be a necessity for me, but since I started using SwiftKey, it's just not a draw any more. I can type much faster with SwiftKey than the real keyboard.
Honestly, I wish I could convince someone to trade their Vibrant for my Slide.

Im keeping my G2 because my last MyTouch 3g 1.5 was a piece of junk.
Also, you get stock Android with the G2.
It appears that the reason you're giving is an opinion. Does this REALLY require a new thread?
There are some people here that would use a front facing camera, myself included.
Also, it's been said that the new mytouch is very well built, and running a next generation snapdragon cpu. Spec-wise, this will be a very nice phone.
well actually i like how thin the new mytouch 4g is and the OS runs pretty well. Plus u get the wifi tethering, uma, and has htc sense ui on top.
at least wen i press the trackpad it will allow me to unlock the screen instead of pressing the power button up top.
also the ffc is not very good video was choppy and laggy...it is using the quik app same as the one on the EVO
the material on the mytouch is not good as the G2

FFC helps future-proof your phone since more devices will ship with FFCs in the future. Vanilla android is more of a reason to keep the G2 since we SHOULD receive updates faster than skinned versions of android. The physical keyboard is nice but it definitely isn't needed by most people or necessary for most applications to function (can''t think of anything outside of emulators).

But I have the option Am I going to get the mytouch 4g since I already know what the g2 has to offer? Ehh hell yea. The only reason why my g2 is rooted is because I tether heavily. Because it's not based on the stock android. Please someone, correct me if i'm wrong, but the tethering option on the MT4G is the one T-Mo will use to charge you $15 a month on for using. With the G2 you are currently tethering for free without the providers discretion.
Native tethering on the MT4G, (and possibly on the G2 from the OTA) will mean T-Mobile will be charging that tethering fee just like the other carriers.
That's why they are implementing the 5GB data cap so even if you are tethering on a rooted phone, you won't cost them tons of money.
i currently have the mytouch 4g and was thinking about the HD2.
i love the mytouch for the ffc
i love the HD2 for the BIGGER SCREEN
what are your guys opinion...
HD2 with Windows is a complete failure. If it has Android put on it then it's fine, but 50% more RAM and 4G speeds in the Mytouch would make it an easy decision. If I didn't live in a 4G area then the answer would be a little bit harder but the RAM difference is still significant.

yes I agree, WinMo 6.5 sucks...android is where its at. buts also a plus for the HD2 that you can dual boot windows and android. the HD2 does have a bigger screen, but doesnt look as good as the mytouch. HD2 isnt capable of 4G speeds like the mytouch, and also has less RAM. the FFC isnt a big deal for me as I hardly use it, but some people use it on a daily basis to video chat. really, IMO, the only thing I miss about the HD2 was the big screen and thats about it definitely stick with the 4G...
Ok here's one more add in.
The hd2 is for 120$ used.... Good deal or just save my money ??

I paid $200 for a mint HD2 a few months ago, but now I see them selling on XDA and CList anywhere from $120-$280. if the condition of the phone is 8+/10, I would say grab it. I loved the HD2 as my toy phone, and if something ever happens with your mytouch(lots of bad eMMC errors going around lately) you have an awesome phone to go back to

I would wait if I were you, you can easily get a 9+/10 condition HD2 for $150-$175. also look for the US t-mobile HD2 as it has more ROM space compared the the EUR version (1GB>512MB)

but there are 2 different types of HD2/Leo. the EUR version has 512mb ROM while the US version has 1gb ROM. they both look exactly the same, except the US version has the T-Mobile logo on the front
I have both a MT4G and a HD2. I absolutely love my HD2 I'm running motorman's ROM so it looks and feels exactly like my MyTouch 4G*. The larger screen is really wonderful and not having the really badly placed power button on the top is great!

I would use it all the time but the lack of UMA/WiFi calling forces me back to the MT4G on occasion.
Note: The HD2 also lacks 4g but that's a who cares since there's little 4g in my area.
*Follow the link and you'll see it's really very easy to install a NAND on the HD2 but download and save the stock software from T-Mo's website first so you can always go back to stock if you want to do so, it takes very little time. You can also set up a dual boot but I've found that less than reliable.
