I would recommend reading everything in this thread. yes you can revert back to stock after flashing new ROMs. I highly recommend doing research before you start...that means searching. All the answers you will need are contained within existing threads.
Yes, you can restore the original ROM. In the guides to root it tell you to make a nandroid backup. That'll let you restore the original ROM.

Thanks to all and that is exactly what I was looking for. I have done some mods with a Tilt in the past but nothing with my Hero. Now to choose a ROM that still lets the Sprint Navigation work - don't care about most of the other apps that came with it.

hi, i have done a lot of changes on many parts of the original os, and i was wondering if here is a easy way to get my phone into a "fresh out of the store" state without flashing?

Try factory reset
there is a factory reinstall option somewhere, try that
Factory reset only removes installed apk's and resets settings, it doesnt not effect on manual changes made deeper in the system, or self-installed system apps. What i want is a total re-install.

The easiest way is to flash with Odin, as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
Finding the original firmware could be a problem... if you don't find it at the above link or here: http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i5800.htm
Ok, did a successful flashing with the EASY instructions in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=873645
using the latest 2.1 firmware from Samfirmware:
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i5800.htm
At first i was afraid of flashing and thus hoped for another way of doing this, but since ROM Manager does not support i5800, gave it a try and i am glad. (will be probably flashing 2.2 at some point, if the official update won't come until some point Q1/2011)
Thanks all a bunch!

I'm glad you succeeded... For 2.2 it's better to wait a little, all existing versions are buggy and/or unstable... Unless you want to beta-test it
Guys my question is how do I do it?
Odin back to JFD then flash your 2.2 rom with clockwork recovery
you HAVE to odin back to jfd first. there is no way around that. then install whatever rom you want.
and no, you can't odin any other roms other than jfd. the other odin roms have missing info that doesn't allow them to do a repartition.
If only someone had written a guide for this....
/sarcasm.
Check my signature.
oHH WHAT THAT WAS YOU lol
THANKS
Ok other question is...
Will all data and apps be errased or will they be saved with a nandroid backup?
You need to backup using titanium backup if you plan to restore apps.
Having a problem coming from the Nightlies TRYING to get back to 2.2. I'm back on 2.1 but Kies will not read my phone.
OMG don't do kies....you obviously don't read much about kies lol
have the same question
I was on Vibrace 2.2 Rom and took a nandroid backup before installing cm7 stable.
Now i am having call issues on cm7 and want to revert back to 2.2 using my nandroid backup ?
Can I just go into recovery and restore my backup ?
If not, how do I go about it ?

kies WILL NOT WORK to undo voodoo lagfix and kies WILL NOT WORK to go back to a Samsung rom from an mtd rom.
YOU MUST ODIN JFD! There is NO OTHER WAY. Period!

CAPITAL LETTERS aside, Geo is right. Kies is notorious for bricking phoned. Don't use it.
Odin is what you need and should be one of your basic programs that you would use regularly if you intend to flash ROMs.

Kies also won't get you to jfd, which is required.
Also, the capital words are for emphasis, because the same thing is being said over and over in this thread, and the same questions are being asked over and over again.

No worries man. I agree wholeheartedly.
There should be a thread that just says "Don't use Kies". Sticky and lock it.

Here is the link where you can get he easiest way reset your phone to the original stock version.
And this is very easy just with one click !!
It use Heimdall and work with windows 7 (This is my OS) but also with the other OS beacuse is written in Java, so you woul firt install java on your pc.
Here is link - One click with Heimdall
I've been looking around and found nothing about this... So, a little back story...
Yesterday I updated to CM9, and it all was good. Trying to tune it, I elevated the number of touchscreen points (dont remember well the name of that option) to 4... but then I was like "why I need that much? Let's reduce to default" and screen no longer recognices touch keypress, not even the softkeys are working... Thought it was a CM9 bug and restored to original stock rom and bug still present...
Anybody has faced this? USB Debugging is disabled, so no way to extract a logcat (sorry for that)...

PS : From advanced try fix permissions too . I am at a loss to other solutions , apart from flashing fixed sbfs
Nope, yesterday (while working) a blue dot appeared where I touched in the recovery screen. Now, not even that... =(
I've been searching all around and found out I'm not the only one with this problem... Some have solved it by removing the sd card, I tried that solution and no luck... Guess I'll be flashing a sbf and pray for some warranty luck...

I read that thread and it points to other threads where I have to fish the DL links... ATM, I'm downloading a CEE (wth does CEE means?) version... Office internet connection sucks, so for the other SBFs I'll download when I get home...

Sorry and thanks for the heads up...
Tried Latin America (Retail, Claro), British (Retail)' and no luck so far.. Iusacell Mexico, Claro Latin America previous version, T-Mobile US are in line downloading... Just wondering, couldn't it be the digitizer that is malfunctioning? I have a 2-year warranty still (bought at Best Buy)...
So, I went through Hell and back... Flashed Retail and Carrier SBFs and no luck..Which makes me think that problem is officially hardware... I'll flash an english SBF so I can send it back for warranty.. Fingers crossed... Thanks for your help anyway...

First of all I'd like to express how I feel. I feel like crying! I honestly just spent my entire savings for this year to get my note III and now I have no idea how to get it back to work. Phone is working but IMEI is null and baseband is unknown.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and thought it would be a great idea to backup my EFS. I used EFS Professional v2.0.91 tool, and for some reason instead of backing up my efs this tool got rid of my imei and baseband. I have tried every solution there is and I reached a dead end and the point of I just wanna cry now! Please if anyone could help me!

EDIT: I am getting random reboots from time to time

OK I'll chime in here before you mess up your device due to advice that is very poor IMO.
The fire script only works if you lose your BASEBAND not your BASEBAND and IMEI!!!
By flashing the fire script it actually messes the device up more. And it should ONLY be run if you lose basband not IMEI/SN.
Read THIS thread and learn the risks, your device can be fixed, however you need to use ADB and be prepared for a bit of a headache to restore your IMEI.
People need to stop recommending that fire script until they know what the hell it actually bloody does.

Your issue would have been loss of BASEBAND not IMEI and BASEBAND, there is a HUGE difference. I suggest you learn the differences and how they vary before recommending a script that can ruin a device.

you are mistaken bro, the brickloop fix was actually made for efs/imei loss,. that was being caused when the note 3 was first released and the custom recoveries deleted imei
i have helped many ppl get their imei back using that very fix
