Guys my question is how do I do it?
Odin back to JFD then flash your 2.2 rom with clockwork recovery
you HAVE to odin back to jfd first. there is no way around that. then install whatever rom you want.
and no, you can't odin any other roms other than jfd. the other odin roms have missing info that doesn't allow them to do a repartition.
If only someone had written a guide for this....
/sarcasm.
Check my signature.
oHH WHAT THAT WAS YOU lol
THANKS
Ok other question is...
Will all data and apps be errased or will they be saved with a nandroid backup?
You need to backup using titanium backup if you plan to restore apps.
Having a problem coming from the Nightlies TRYING to get back to 2.2. I'm back on 2.1 but Kies will not read my phone.
OMG don't do kies....you obviously don't read much about kies lol
have the same question
I was on Vibrace 2.2 Rom and took a nandroid backup before installing cm7 stable.
Now i am having call issues on cm7 and want to revert back to 2.2 using my nandroid backup ?
Can I just go into recovery and restore my backup ?
If not, how do I go about it ?

kies WILL NOT WORK to undo voodoo lagfix and kies WILL NOT WORK to go back to a Samsung rom from an mtd rom.
YOU MUST ODIN JFD! There is NO OTHER WAY. Period!

CAPITAL LETTERS aside, Geo is right. Kies is notorious for bricking phoned. Don't use it.
Odin is what you need and should be one of your basic programs that you would use regularly if you intend to flash ROMs.

Kies also won't get you to jfd, which is required.
Also, the capital words are for emphasis, because the same thing is being said over and over in this thread, and the same questions are being asked over and over again.

No worries man. I agree wholeheartedly.
There should be a thread that just says "Don't use Kies". Sticky and lock it.

If you use Odin, it will overwrite EVERYTHING.. It does not matter what you have.. You can have a blank rom for all it cares.. It wipes and flashes... Thats it.
After ODIN you will have a STOCK phone, running whatever firmware you flashed the rom with..
Does that help any more?
yep all i needed to no thank you very much sir. and will my contacts be deleted as well? i assume yes since you mentioned everything will be wiped. thanks again

If you save them to your Google account then no they will be automatically synced when you re-connect to GApps.
But seriously I explained this all to you already, go check back in the official di18.tar.md5 thread and you will see my response. You keep jumping back and forth between different threads asking the same exact questions repeatedly, so pick one and stick with it.
You're question has been answered beyond any doubt, so there really is no reason for this thread to still be open.
I'm not trying to be a ****, but that bar up on the top of the page is for searching the forums, so next time use that first and if you cannot find ANY information about your issue, THEN create a new thread.
on your contacts you can also save/export them to the sd card, go to contacts, menu/more/ then you can import or export them.
(sorry if this has been covered in other threads, I searched and couldn't find it)
I found it on androidforums listed as a modified update.zip to bring DK28 phones back to DI18, but I'm not sure what it actually does. It's only 5mb, not ~100mb like the DK28 update.zip
Does anyone have an experience with it?

The only DI18 update.zip file is for going from DI07 -> DI18 (hence why it is only 5mb)

I believe the first link on there, you can attempt to try renaming it update.zip. Im not sure if it works without clockwork tho.. Give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is it will say aborted and wont mess up anything.
I'll give it a shot. Does it completely wipe the phone like Odin, or just change the firmware?

I think it just changes the firmware, i dont think it wipes anything, ive been flashing around roms on 2.1 and flash back to stock a lot and i never lose my data even when i wipe it..
Alternatively, is there a way to get Clockworkmod Recovery onto my DK28 phone?

besides the one click root, with clockwork, i dont think so, besides the long adb commands, which i dont know where that post is at but thats a lot of work.... But if you put clockwork on you can take it off with a simple flash of the samsung recovery zip also in the link above.
Thanks for the info.
Why is it so much more complicated to roll back than it is to go forward to a new version?

Well, not really complicated, just a few things you have flash to remove all the rooted stuff, if you use odin its still a lot of steps and more risky of bricking, i constantly see, new threads of people using odin by not following all the instructions and bricking there devices.
That's why I'm really hoping I can avoid having to use Odin to go to DI18 to get the official OTA update next week.

Dude, just look for the stock DI18 rom, rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery and flash it. That's all. I've done this several times before (although i'm now on a solid 2.2 Froyo rom).
It's a full rom, not a 5MB whatever..
It's that easy, and I don't clockwork recovery or anything?
Why does anyone bother with Odin then?
I think I have the DI18 rom, is 158,159,706 bytes the right file size?
You'll still need to odin in the di18 modem. Cwm can't flash a modem

Jaden, Odin back to stock (look in the Noob guide by S14274N) it has everything you need, Once you are in stock , then root the phone (use superoneclick, it is easy), then download Rom manager, then you will go back into download hit update packages and it will be rooted, From there you can flash any rom you want. Your phone is ok, you need just to go into Download and Odin back to stock first.
You probably can just restart your phone, don't think any changes were even made...long press the power button until it restarts.
Hahaha no offense and not trying to troll but guys please ODIN before any flash of rom, kernel, mod, theme, anything. That way you dont flip out when **** goes wrong. I did,so do many other flashers, and so should you pr anybody else. Also, do a backup with recovery before flashing....

Yeah its not really necessary, I think the last time I used ODIN was before flashing the Nero beta. It will keep things fresh and mostly issue free, but if you know what you're doing you really shouldn't have to do it for every flash.

What custom rom is the best for ICS?
Can you update the rom version without needing to reflash?

Lokk at here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427477
Allways an update version needs to be flashed, but if you are on ICS you normally are not needed to make a factory reset. Only flash the update and reboot.
Nevertheless it is usefull to safe your data. CWM backup and Titanium Backup I would advice.
You should probably post in Q&A for this stuff.
There are two prominent versions at the mo,
1 - Onecosmics ICS RC 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223)
2 - Teamhacksungs ICS ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593)
There are a few more but these are probably your best place to start.
OneCosmics version is based on stock ICS, Teamhacksungs is more of a CM7/ICS build, so not totally stock.
Both work well, but neither are perfect yet. Onecosmics is goodin my eye as i like stock. Keep it simple and hopefully little will break....
You should also read the android development page for i9000, this will show you all you need and you can read what you like!
Getting a 'Custom Rom' will be rare at this point as stock still isn't 100% to work off.
You can install both via CWM i believe. Just ensure you go from stock and backup via Nandroid or similar.
Going back to GB, you can just flash via ODIN.

Basically -
you want ICS to be installed over a clean firmware install to avoid potential problems. i.e. Stock firmware (stock with root is fine by the way!) with a factory reset & cache wipe from recovery mode. THEN install ICS via CWM.
If you are on stock GB already, then just do a factory reset & Cache wipe and go from there with instructions on Onecosmics thread mentioned above etc.
Make sure you know what you're doing and backup your efs etc.
That help?

Cripes, you should do some forum reading, i'm worries you don't know enough to be doing this to your phone (sorry, i just don't want you to do something you're not sure about...)
CWM is generally installed when you root your phone, easiest method is with Chainfire's Root (i think SuperOneClick is also working again now, but i can't guarantee it'll work on JVU).
CF-Root (Chainfire's Root) look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Make sure you use root for JVU, and follow instructions, flash with ODIN.
This will install CWM and superuser. You can do a backup in CWM. Please read up on how it works, there are plenty of guides out there. for EFS backup, read about, i'd advise it, just in case. With root, there are programs you can download from market to do it, or Nandroid, if you know how that works.
NB: ROOTING VOIDS YOUR WARANTEE
kapeesh?
whatever you do, make sure you know what you're doing before flashing anything.
and read up on CWM and recovery mode. There be dragons in there....
Flake x
(p.s. remember to thank all the useful people yeh? )
Be careful have a good read up before you decide to flash. Make sure you read up on how to un brick your phone just in case.

Yeah, I got the generic imei on flashing cm7, don't know why, as I'd used cm7 before with no issues. Fortunately had a backup. Bit scary though.
