Any help on what I can do please? Who I can send it to?
Anyone had good experiences with certain companies? Ideally UK/London based!
...I'm devastated...
You could...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone_throwing
What happened to it?
@tnakir - thanks - I'm not sure I'm finding that too funny right now as I'm left with a £360 paper weight!
@CrazyPeter - The power pack of a laptop charger was dropped on the phone from about 2ft
if your screen still works (amoled, the colory stuff) but you can't touch it
just get yourself a new digitizer
http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Touch-Scree...561542?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4aa50b4e86
costs about 25-35
else get yourself a new digitizer and new display...
total costs about 100-135
good luck
Thanks for the info Dirk.
Unfortunately the 'screen' is now blank, nothing displays on it at all, the only things that light up are the 4 buttons at the bottom and also the notification LED by the earpiece.
I saw the digitizer costs were quite cheap but I think I'm going to need a whole new display....
But phone itself works? Does adb find it? Can you do adb shell?
Sent from my HTC Legend
@BlaY0 - good point. I *think* it works but as the screen is blank I have not been able to make sure all is well under the screen. The fact that the 4 buttons light up when I push the power button, and the LED was flashing, indicates it may be ok.
I am guessing the ADB shell method would be a way to be 100% sure it's working, right? I've not needed to use ADB yet ...mainly because I don't know how - I've only used the the Windows command prompt when I rooted the phone.
Any tips on what I can do to ensure the phone is still working , via the ADB method please?
It would be good to find out, as I have now received two quotes [£100 and £90] to have a new digitizer and new screen installed. Obviously I want to make sure everything else is working before I send my phone for repair!
Tips appreciated!

Once I get the SDK installed and fire up my terminal [OSX 10.62], can I issue the following two commands:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb devices
..and if I see the following:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
[COLOR="Orange"]my Legend should appear here right?[/COLOR]
1] Does the above suggest the Legend is still alive and well? Or should I do anything else to ensure the phone itself is still 'working'?
2] Because my screen doesn't work, I will not be able to tell what state my phone is in, on or off! I can only guess after pressing the power button. I presume in order to ADB shell to the Legend, the Legend needs to be on, connected to Mac via USB and in 'charging' state. But I cannot ensure this due to the screen being blank. Can anyone suggest how I can still ADB shell to the Legend ?
Shame m8 , horrible when this kinda stuff happens , i have learned from the past when similar thing occured to my phone (HTC wizzard got stuck between the chair and the rails of my carseat) perforating my screen. Since then i always made sure to close an ensurance on my new phones.
Hope you have one?
either way good luck with it m8.
@c_man:
adb devices tells U if your phone is on or off. As soon as it vibrates when turning on it means kernel is loading. Then shortly after kernel loads, U should be able to adb shell into it. You get unix-like command prompt and you can issue shell commands. ps command lists all processes currently running. mount shows mounted partitions...
There's also a shutdown command which U can use to U know what.
If all that work, I guess your phone is alive, just blind.
Sent from my HTC Legend
@BlaY0 - thanks so much! So as long as I can feel it vibrate after turning on, I'll leave it for say, 1min, and then try to ADB.
If, after issuing the command 'adb devices', my Legend responds, then it is alive! (as I understand it).
(if any of the above is incorrect - feel free to correct me).
There is no point me sending it for display repair if the phone doesn't respond via ABD, I assume.
I'll update here once I've done the above...
Right then!
Code:

This colour text = me editing some identification info
I guess this shows that the Legend still lives!!
What other commands can I issue to check the phone is okay?
@BlaY0: The ./adb command and .adb shell command did not return anything??
This is what ./adb shell mount returned:

Now I can send my Legend for repair knowing that everything [but the screen] is working well.
Thanks again!
Holy crap. How could anyone do this to our dear Legend? How could you? You're lucky only the screen is damaged.
I'm back!
Got my Legend fixed earlier this evening by these guys: http://www.spsmobile.co.uk/
They were one of few who were adament they use genuine parts [they allowed me to inspect the parts before installation] AND allowed me to wait whilst they work on it.
Abolutely disgusting/poor customer service and general attitute towards their customers... though the main thing is my Legend is all well again !
Oh, it cost £70 for display + digitizer + installation.

Well they took offence at me wanting to verify how genuine the parts were, in a big way.
They then proceeded to tell me to take my business elsewhere, that they can't believe I was questioning them, that they've been running 11 years and not once had someone question how genuine the parts are!! Hmm... yeah right.
When I saw them unwrap the display and digitizer out of toilet paper, I felt I was WELL within my rights to question! Also, seeing the engineer wiping away remains/dirt off the internals of the phone with a TOOTHBRUSH didnt fill me with confidence. The working environment was not your typical engineer-type-workstation, no engineer-like-tools, and all three 'engineers' are Romanian... so don't expect their English to be top notch.
To top it all off, they only accept cash.
I wouldn't recommend leaving your phone with them.
If you were wiling to wait whilst they fix (like me), then they are competitively priced, as the cheapest quotes I had got were £100 and £90.... opposed to £70 from they guys.... so it's worth keeping in mind.
Wow, certainly sound a little dodgy...

Guys, I'm posting a test release of VJCalibrula.
This app disables the "feature" by which the align screen popup appears when you hold down the enter key and then press the messaging button on some devices.
This was written in response to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1045775#post1045775
This should work on Hermes, XV6700 and Universal. It works on some variants of Wizard, but right now I'm too tired to support AKU3.2. I'll fix it later. So it's an alpha release for now, final when I support all devices.
Let me know if it doesn't support your device and I'll see what I can do.
To use it, just download the file and run it.
It will either work or not.
However, to get feedback, run it with the command line -debug to get a confirmation message.
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjcalibrula/vjcalibrulawizard.exe
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjcalibrula/vjcalibrula.exe
Please make a shorcut to the .exe and launch with the command line -debug for some feedback on if it worked.
V
Thanks Vijay
Good work! I'll give it a try . . . will give you some feedback . . .
I'll be working on a more generic version hopefully tonight.
The current version is tied to some hardware only
V
Doesn't execute on my T-mobile MDA Running 2.26 ROM
That's great idea, thanks. But it doesn't work on my Wizard with TMO US 2.26 ROM. When I run it, nothing happens and the shortcut is still available.
Sorry, yes I specifically didn't support that rom because I didn't have time to decrypt it, which means right now it's tied to the Universal and Hermes variants, and some older Wizards that I had decompiled.
However, I may take this app out of release, I'm working on a new version that should support everything.
Give it a go (with low expectations). If it works, cool. If not, hang on for a little while, coming soon.
V
hey vijay,
hows da new version comin up? i tried this one with 2.26 and a no go. really sick of playing emulator but keep activating that align screen mode. would appreciate if you come up with the new version soon.. ^^ thanks for all your work up to this date!!
Guys, I've updated the link above to use a new version made to be compatible with 2.26, hopefully. Cutefox said it worked, so blame him/her
V
hey hey.. don blame me.. hahaha.. well i tried it and it works.. i think it conflict with magic button if im not wrong. so its advisable to run it at start up.. preferably with the command -debug thats how i got mine to work. so try your luck!! its fantastic program by the way. games its different now on wizard, no more annoying align screen ^^
vijay555, I see u got your hands on the driver functionality First the LED disabler, now this...
Not really TB. It was something else I wrote a while back, that got me thinking - surely I can apply that technique to X?
X happened to be a faily wide range of scenarios, and I'm working on various implementations now.
VJCalibrula was written because there was a very specific need which could be tackled at the root...
Disabling the LED driver is a different problem, merely a case of disabling AllLedMgr. It's not a perfect solution, but the next solution, which falls into category X above, is much more detailed and I've not got the energy for it right now
Did you read the MS Mobile Blog about the new documentation for the Nled API? The public API is doesn't give much flexibility.... doesn't do everything we need. Hence, X...

I've seen this all over the place, are you talking about some command line on the Wizard? How do I run this with command -debug
I think he said he had to run it with the -debug command line. I don't see why, but I don't have a wizard to test it on right now. It's still alpha, I'm going to try to work on a more generically compatible version soon.

Hi Vijay,
First of all, I would like to thank you for all your contributions to this community. You're much appreciated.
As a ex-Wizard user I too had some benefit of a few of your releases in the past.
I recently own an HTC Touch and I stumbled upon the pesky Align Screen hotkey 'feature' again.
This time I have no other hardware key to assign for a work-around.
I've been tracking this thread for a while, but it looks like there aren't any updates lately.
Is the project stagnated?
I've turned the net up-side-down to find a solution to disable this hotkey function, with no luck. It also seems (imho) that you're the only one that ever made a hack to disable this function, for a couple of Wizard ROM versions.
So this is why I'm asking you directly for your help.
As a full time worker myself I surely understand that sparetime is a valueable asset, but could you find the will and time to create a hack for the HTC Touch (or a HTC generic one)?
And if so, can I help you out with anything that's within my power?
Best Regards,
BóÒgieman
hi vijay,
i have an htc universal, but it doesn't seem to work at all.
*i run the exe, nothing happens.
*i try to hold enter + messaging button, outlook loads but screen rotation is still enabled.
*i load taskmgr to see if VJCalibrula is up, but its not there.
a few pointers of my own: apart from not working
1. it has a drawback - i can't use it if im on portrait mode because then you have no keyboard. maybe you should add a command line argument that will disable the rotation, instead of button combinations.
2. when im in my car i need the display up side down (if portrait means 0 degrees angle, i need it in 180 degrees rotation). or in other words - i need to be able to choose the orientation and THEN lock the rotation.
could you add an option that will choose the orientation before locking it?
that would be lovely.
thank you!

What would people ask next, I really cannot believe that someone want to turn them off :-D
I wouldnt turn them off, but it would be cool to be able to change their color. Maybe red? Would be a neat feature of some of the themes others here have developed for us.

There is no way to change the colour by software.
The are just white.
If you want another colour you have to solder another.
Possible colours are: yellow, green blue, pink, amber, light green, light blue, and cyan.
They are pretty bright.

Yes, because the two things are totally comparable.

Is there any solution for this. When I use aldiko for reading ebooks this leds are very irritating when reading in dark.

Thx stephenpilar it's working
Disable the button leds automatically at every boot (not my script)
*root needed, works on 2.1 and 2.3*
Edit: Thanks to Adolf1994 for the original script!
New: xRecovery solution, but doesn't work for all roms.
xRecovery Button Leds Switch
Universal solution, only requires root:
- copy noled.sh somewhere on your SD card.
(important: use Unix end of line, if you don't know how to do that download the file attached to this post)
- install Script Manager from Market, open it, browse to noled.sh, open it, check "run at boot" and "run as root", and don't forget to click Save.
(use Unix end of line)
Code:
#! /system/bin/busybox sh
DIR=$(cd /sys && find | grep brightness | cut -c 3- | cut -d : -f 1 | head -n 1)
LED=/sys/$DIR
LEDB=$LED:sled/brightness
echo 0 > $LEDB
chmod 00444 $LEDB
exit
/etc/init.d solution, but doesn't work for all roms.
- explorer with root capabilities needed, for GB users you can download Estrongs File Explorer from the market, open it, open the settings and check the two root options
- copy noled.sh to /etc/init.d and optionally rename it to 50-nobuttonleds or **-nobuttonleds where ** is a number between 00 and 99 that is not used by another script in the folder
- reboot, if you still see the button leds:
- add this line to /etc/install-recovery.sh (check first if busybox is in xbin or bin):
/system/xbin/busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d
or
/system/bin/busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d
and try again
Hi, thx for script but when I run script I get this error
Command:

I didn t search much more for a solution but in the basics settings I didn t find anything. All toshiba wallpaper seems to be like that.
Well, maybe is beacause if res. is larger and Android needs to crop the image you can select all image and when croped is being transformed to folio's resolution,
it's because of the wallpaper scrolling trough screens (so you need a wider wallpaper) and because toshiba can't do anything right (software wise).
the best solution, in my opinion. is to find/make a picture that's 1024*600. make a canvas around it in photoshop: like here.
save as a .png and put it into /toshiba/wallpaper/ using rootexplorer.
then (in launcherpro) disable wallpaper scrolling.
then you can select it from the toshiba gallery, and it won't be cropped.
someone should really make an app doing this automatically. i'm unfortunately no developer, so i have no idea.
So, as i understand; the file image needs to be croped (due to toshiba's fault?) and beacause of this image resoltion has to be larger.
But which resolution will work? (I mean, how much canvas do i have to add?!?!)
Thanks.

canvas should be 2048*1024, with anchor in top/middle. just like the example.
the cropping is an android thing, as android (officially) don't support screens larger than 800*480
this one is the one on my homescreen

The system partition is mounted read-only by android.
Do you have an adb connection to your device?
If yes simply type adb remount to a console window to remount the system partition r/w

try this command:
adb shell
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
--copy the wpp---
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
or just download the Gallery3D I have uploaded (working perfectly on 0.4) and make the image your wallpaper like in any other android phone

Hello !
I've also a lot of difficulty with wallpapers' size ... But I think I just understand how it do. I've just making a pattern for a 3 desktop home (see in attachment). I test on my folio and it's the good size normally.
I hope it can help somebody, by the way I prefer share it here
Edit : I forget to give you the resolution that I found, with ADW launcher ... A classical wallpaper is 2048*1024 (like original toshiba wallpapers), into wide mode, the resolution is 2048*600 and each desktop do 1024*600 (and central desktop is composed by the left and right desktop, like on the picture )
Edit 2 : @ kepler1982 --> I've just finished a tool which allow you to put your wallpaper directly into the good folder (/toshiba/wallpaper). It runs under Windows (it's a batch script) and it uses ADB. For the moment it's just in French but I will try to post it here tomorrow in English. It's a Ready-to-use tool
Hi again, what about this tool?
I hope I can add some apps and remove some others to foliomod in near future and I would like to add some wallpapers too.
Can you post some wallpapers and that tool plz?

Thanks! They are very nice!
Wallpaper size needs to be 2048x1024 because if you put the Folio in portrait position then vertical resolution is 1024...
Hi all,
yesterday I finally got my M3 a
I just have got 1 problem I seem not able to fix:
Chrome always seems to think the tablet is a phone... So it runs in phone layout instead of tablet layout
Is there a way to fix it?
(I can't post links since I have less than 10 posts... but you can just google for "chrome tabs phone layout", go to picture search mode.
--> the first picture shows my layout on the left... and the one it should use on the right.)
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english.
Just click request desktop site under chrome settings

Sorry perhaps I did not describe the problem clearly enough:
It's not my problem to get the desktop version of a homepage getting opened.
The problem is, like on your picture, chrome not showing all tabs on top of the screen (like in the desktop version of chrome or on most tablets like my old nexus7 2013), but to "hide" them behind this little tab icon (showning "3" on your picture) in the right upper corner.
It's like on this picture... It should look like the part on the right side.
(Just replace the three XXX with a "." / dot)
cdn.ilovefreesoftwareXXXcom/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Chrome-Phone-Layout-vs-Tablet-Layout.png
Edit:
Okay I got a solution. It's pretty simple.
Via ADB:
adb devices (to check if devices connected)
setting density to 391 (or less) via: adb shell wm density 391
--> Tadaa tablet mode in chrome
Are u rooted ?

Nope,
this one is not rooted yet. So can't use the xposed framework.

How did you get the homepage button?

Also on the predefined mode, the tabs are not working... like chrome is confused.
I filed a bug on Chrome for that too. but maybe chrome needs to include this device on tablet side of the moon.
I managed to force it into tablet mode (thx to nospherato) but I never had a homepage button.
The adb shell density command does not work on my M3. What could I be doing wrong?
hi flavio,
you took these steps?
1) activated the developer menu
2) activated the usb debug mode
3) connected pc+m3 ("adb devices" should not show "not authorized")
4) typed
adb shell wm density 391
?
(btw on my windows shell I had to use adb.exe instead of adb command... damn win10)
You should at once see the screen getting modified.

I did all these steps before but it never got it working.
Somehow I did get it to work now (set it to 320) but I still don't know what I did differently.
And it reverts back to 440 after a reboot. Is that normal?
Yes it is normal it gets reset after a reboot... Also if you change your resolution (power save, lower resolution) it gets reset.
I think you can only get it working permanently if your device is rooted.
Btw: If you use the normal resolution chrome starts to work in tablet mode @391 density.
If you want to use the battery saving mode (1200x1920), it starts at 293. (I prefer this one, as the quick actions do not get messed up here.)
Thanks for the help @nospherato & @Flavio.
I had the same issue with the Mediapad M3. Just got this today and having Chrome in phone mode and not table mode is a big drawback.
I could not even switch between tabs (hitting the square with the number of tabs in it did not show the list of open tabs to close it).
What worked for me was:
adb shell wm density 320
Click to collapse
This immediately switched Chrome to show the row of tabs at the top and allowed me to close them as well.
Thanks XDA community.
The strange thing is that when you switch back to 400 DPI Chrome stays in tablet mode, i.e. with the tabs above the address bar.
At least in some regions Huawei released an update which should add the option to remove the on-screen navigation and fix the Chrome problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69664225&postcount=14

I had the same problem. No bookmark star and can't change the tabs.
Set to 320 works for me to.
Makes me happy!
Back to 400 i had the same problems. So i tested some variable values.
356 and smaller - No Problem
357 or higher - The same Problems.

Is there a way to permanently fix the tabs and user agent from phone mode? I can't close tabs and swiping to switch them is annoying.
If I do adb do I have to redo it every reboot if my only desire is having tabs work? I don't even have my favourites menu or reload buttons.
@Sean09
Well as I know the only other way is to root your device and use expose framework. There is a plugin where you can set things like that for your apps.
If you do not want to root your device, you will at least have to wait for an ota update from huawei.
(If I got it right, this problem does not exist in newer [thai/chinese] versions... but until now, no huawei support could/wanted to tell me if or when eu pads get an update...)
I wonder if we can flash the other firmware that has already had an update made available to it - I assume they'll get updates quicker than we will in the USA as well.
Dear Friends,
I accidently broken the IR Sensors (green bezel) on my Nook Simple Touch.
I already rooted using Nook Manager. Now the touch is completely broken ( not responding).
Could you please confirm how can enable keyboard/mouse access with the current state of the device.
Left and Right buttons are working.
Regards
Nirmal
I haven't heard that the USB host on the NST ever got to the point of working automatically.
That means you'd have to fiddle to enable the USB.
You must have adb shell.
If you need to start an app you can do it with a command like:
Code:
# am start -n com.android.settings/.Settings
If you need to tap something on the screen you can do it with a command like:
Code:
# input tap 100 200
If you need to type something you can do it with a command like:
Code:
# input text 'Hello, I am text!'
Thanks for the response. Should i need to enable the ADB Shell on the Nook even before accessing the ADB ?
btw, Where can i get the ZForce Light Guide IR Bezel so that i can replace them and make the touch work again.?
Please see image spare i was talking about.

Huh? This is a year and a half after the last post.
Ok, the link you posted is for reflected technology.
The original NST was interrupt technology.
How did you break the green bezel? A single break does not invalidate it, but will make alignment more difficult.
Do you have ADB enabled? If not it will be difficult to get it enabled with a completely funky touch sensor.
I would probably just connect to the 1.8V UART console inside, but that may be a bit of a challenge if you haven't done that before.
The original NST is getting pretty old now.
If you really want another ebay will probably sell you one cheaply.
That's probably easier than finding the bezel by itself.
If you have ADB working and a broken screen or a broken touch sensor (on anything), my adbgrab.exe lets you interact with your device on your desktop.
If you have ADB working and want to troubleshoot the touchy alignment of the NST touch sensor the Touch.apk will help you.
UsbMode.apk can enable USB host mode so that you can attach a keyboard or mouse.
All can be found in the signature.
Hi Renate,
Thanks for the detail clarification. I didn't noticed your 2018 reply. Yesterday i accidently came to the site and saw your old response and tried with ADB with the Nook which was sleeping for the last 3-4 years.
Based on your response, i tried to connect ADB and it worked well. All i want to use that as an Information Display wall and what a day i was able to accomplish everything through adb.

I will share my years of story to revive this on a separate thread.
Few Final Queries :
- 1. Since the touch is dead i want to open the ElectricSign App whenever i long press the "n" button. I updated the nook mod manager preferences manually with
<string name="pref_n_long">ElectricSign::com.sugoi.electricsign::1::0</string> but its not working. What i am missing?
- 2. How to simulate touch event in 1.2.1 using zForce Touch Screen /dev/input/event2 for a given x & y axis. Does the adbgrab.exe solves this?
Thanks again Appreciated.
adbgrab.exe works fine, just try it.
Currently it uses the shell input command as being the most portable.
It's not the fastest thing in the world, but it is the most compatible.
I could "borrow" a /dev/input, but that gets into questions of how it's configured.
In unrooted things I roll my own /dev/input (like my page-turner box on my everday Glow2 reader).
You don't need a launcher, just make your signage thingy a home thingy.
Code:
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
<category android:name="android.intent.category.HOME"/>
I am using Windows 8.1 and the adbgrab.exe simply opens and closing.
This device is already rooted using nookmanager and i am looking for a way i control the screen remotely by sending x & y co-ordinates.

Does it say anything?
Is there any error?
Does "adb devices" show your device?
You have to have the ADB server running.
I don't have access to any 8.1, but if there is a problem, I'd like to solve it.

Hello Renate,
I missed to update you on the status of this.
I was able to complete my objective using your Inputs and also used Android Screen Monitor to control the touches
Please see attached output. I am using this as a QuoteFrame using ElectricSign APK.

Oh, glad it worked out.
I ended up doing the same sort of the same thing with an old NST,
It's an app that uses a TCP connection forwarded over ADB over USB.
Right now it sends View IDs and strings to update the separate areas.
I may switch over to just a full screen PNG composed on the host computer (a Raspberry Pi).
