Disable leds between hard buttons - XPERIA X10 General

Hi everybody! Is there a way to disable the hard key button leds on the X10?
It would be nice to save some power and they annoy me big time.
Thanks!

You know they are LEDs right.... don't really use much power

What would people ask next, I really cannot believe that someone want to turn them off :-D

I wouldnt turn them off, but it would be cool to be able to change their color. Maybe red? Would be a neat feature of some of the themes others here have developed for us.

They annoy me alright!
Honestly, there are only 3 buttons, and they're about the same size. I for one don't need to be reminded of their location via 2 LEDs.

There is no way to change the colour by software.
The are just white.
If you want another colour you have to solder another.
Possible colours are: yellow, green blue, pink, amber, light green, light blue, and cyan.

They are pretty bright.
... Perhaps SE should have put it on the camera XD

Wow. The level of ignorance in this post is beyond comprehension.
Yes, because the two things are totally comparable.
You know, I would've totally taken a 12MP camera over a hole for phone straps.

Is there any solution for this. When I use aldiko for reading ebooks this leds are very irritating when reading in dark.

Thx stephenpilar it's working

Disable the button leds automatically at every boot (not my script)
*root needed, works on 2.1 and 2.3*
Edit: Thanks to Adolf1994 for the original script!
New: xRecovery solution, but doesn't work for all roms.
xRecovery Button Leds Switch
Universal solution, only requires root:
- copy noled.sh somewhere on your SD card.
(important: use Unix end of line, if you don't know how to do that download the file attached to this post)
- install Script Manager from Market, open it, browse to noled.sh, open it, check "run at boot" and "run as root", and don't forget to click Save.
(use Unix end of line)
Code:
#! /system/bin/busybox sh
DIR=$(cd /sys && find | grep brightness | cut -c 3- | cut -d : -f 1 | head -n 1)
LED=/sys/$DIR
LEDB=$LED:sled/brightness
echo 0 > $LEDB
chmod 00444 $LEDB
exit
/etc/init.d solution, but doesn't work for all roms.
- explorer with root capabilities needed, for GB users you can download Estrongs File Explorer from the market, open it, open the settings and check the two root options
- copy noled.sh to /etc/init.d and optionally rename it to 50-nobuttonleds or **-nobuttonleds where ** is a number between 00 and 99 that is not used by another script in the folder
- reboot, if you still see the button leds:
- add this line to /etc/install-recovery.sh (check first if busybox is in xbin or bin):
/system/xbin/busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d
or
/system/bin/busybox run-parts /system/etc/init.d
and try again

Hi, thx for script but when I run script I get this error
Command:
-c '/mnt/sdcard/noled.sh '
-------------
Out:
exec sh -c '/mnt/sdcard/noled.sh '
# exec sh -c '/mnt/sdcard/noled.sh '
/mnt/sdcard/noled.sh: permission denied
Click to expand...
Click to collapse

You need to run it as root:
adb shell
su
sh noled.sh

screen filter doesn't work for me. I'm still on 2.1, might that why it doesn't work?
Are you on GB?

Manual edit virtual resolution (LCD Density without the app)

If you edit local.prop in /data/ to include the line "ro.sf.lcd_density=XXX" you can set the density size on boot without having to run an app or do a restart every time. Put whatever numbers you want for XXX, 160 is default and the higher the number the bigger the screen items will be. I personally like 120.
This works well with the button_bar off trick to make the notification bar the usual size while still having the buttons up top. Plus it lets you fit another 4 or so apps on the Zeam launcher bar.

I'm curious how this might affect the crappy way the archos uses wallpaper? (cutting off the bottom of of the wallpaper) Would this change the way the wallpaper is scaled?
To be honest I'm not sure if it would actually shift the wallpaper or if that is independent of the lcd density settings, but either way it won't fix the archos wallpaper issue. If you see an actual image of what a picture would have to look like for the archos to make it "fullscreen" you'd see that proportionately zooming out won't work.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=46103&start=0
Your best bet for that is the multipicture app as much as it sucks to have to run an app just for wallpaper.
Yeah I know, I hate that damn app. Stationary wallpaper. Bleah. My favorite thing is to have scrolling wallpaper. I'm learning how to re proportion the wallpaper. I was hoping that might fix some of it. Oh well. I actually like crop wallpaper better. Just cuz I can still get my scroll on lol

"root gen8
create a file "local.prop" at /data/
add follow line.
ro.board.has_buttonbar=no"
You need root, obviously, and should install button savior. Do that and give it a shot, worst case scenario is you just delete the two "ro" lines from build.prop and local.prop and you are back to normal.
How where you able to edit the build.prod in the system fs.
I'm logged in as root but it keeps saying readonly file.
Please advice...
Try copying it to somewhere else, add the line, and paste it back in and replacing the old one.
That's not making any difference.
I su to root, superuser grants me root rights, but chmod, editing with vi, cp to /tmp edit en pasting back does not work.
Any other ideas?
Are you rebooting after you are done? To be honest, I copied it into my dropbox folder with root explorer, edited it on my linux box, threw it back in dropbox, and moved it back into /system/, but it shouldn't matter doing it another way.
In the market there are file explorers that grant root privileges. This should help you write and delete in /system/. Just remember to go into settings in the explorer and enable the root options.
XDA ICE GLACIER - THEMED / Never stock
I already have root explorer on my device, I will try this in the morning.
I tried to do it in a terminal emulator but that's what giving me te problems.
So, I tried using another file manager, but writing in the system fs is not going to happen on my archos 101.
Just to be clear I'm running the out of the box firmware/kernel that I rooted with Archangel.
When I get a chance I will start from scratch and note my steps to do this. If that doesn't work it would have to be something to do with archangel, i guess. By chance, you aren't in RO mode are you?
Just know I'm not blowing you off but it might be a day or two. I have a horrible feeling (in my mouth) I need a root canal.

Nope /data/local.prop does the trick. No need to change build.prop.
right,
follow jerry101 at "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940198" and add this line "ro.sf.lcd_density=130" to "local.prop" at /data/.
Cool, glad that you guys got it working but I did it using the build.prop on my 101. Odd.
Regardless, I'll edit the first post since local.prop works.

Brightness control solution.

As some of you are like me and find the auto brightness flicker annoying.
I did notice if you manually set the brightness level (display settings) the flicker stops, sadly the built in widget is really lacking in control.
I used this widget on my X10 and tried it on my Arc, it works brilliantly!
http://curvefish.com/widgets/brightness-level.htm
Hope you find it useful as I do.

Yep, extended controls work as well. Never bothered trying it as it wasn't free here in Sweden, but it is not that expensive either
They sure look nice though.
The Widgetsoid brightness control also seems to override the automated system.
edit: scratch this, the automatic brightness seems to have come back again...
Also, if you set it to LED flash control to 'method 2' in the global preferences, it works as a flashlight/torch.
Hi guys! In this post you can find hw_config for X8 with disabled light sensor. You can compare it to yours to find out how to disable light sensor.
Also, you can upload your hw_config here (/system/etc) and give me a chance to try it
Update: Found the possible solution!
This'll work only if you have similar light sensor.
Open /system/etc/hw_config.sh in text editor.
Search for these two (or similar) lines:
Code:
# lm3530 LMU configuration
...
...
[I][COLOR="Red"]echo 128 > /sys/devices/platform/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0036/als::avg-t # 32, 63, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096
echo i2c > /sys/devices/platform/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0036/mode # i2c, pwm, i2c_pwm, als, pwm_als, i2c_pwm_als, i2_als[/COLOR][/I]
Change echo 128 to echo 1024
Change echo i2c* to echo i2c_pwm
Save it and chmod to 777 if needed (if you edited file in Windows).
I recommend using Notepad++ for editing on PC.
I tried I could not.

Hi ~ blagus
sorry for my poor english
I compare this file with my one
is only "Line 31" is different ?
Code:
echo 0 > $dev/lcd-backlight/als/enable #Sensor on/off. 1 = on, reg 90h
Code:
echo 1 > $dev/lcd-backlight/als/enable #Sensor on/off. 1 = on, reg 90h
after Upload to /system/etc and chmod 777...then reboot
auto brightness still functional
update..... auto brightness become no-step(smooth) Conversion
I'm sorry,,,
I might uploaded files that I was already rewritten.
Change echo 1 to echo 0,
I succeeded to disable auto brightness!
Thanks, blagus!
Edit: When I lock the screen, auto brightness is back. X-<

if you are still running carbon rom (or any aosp-based rom even?), there is an option to change brightness by swiping on the statusbar. it is an elegant solution i think, no need for additional apps/widgets.
you could also set the brightness menu as a quicktile or if you really want to use a widget, i think the preinstalled slim settings offers a brightness option, too.
Thank you

on your internal SD card:
folder it's in: system/framework
file name: twframework-res (copy off phone onto your computer and open it with 7-zip or equal program)
image to modify: twframework-res\res\drawable-hdpi\status_bar_background.9
You will need to zip it all up so that you can push it to the phone using MetaMorph... do a quick search to find the how-to on that.
I think you can use adb to swap the image as well, but never have used that method.
Hope this is what you were looking for! I modified mine to be a gray checkered background with a transparent image etched onto it... looks fantastic cause you can see whatever screen you were on when you pulled it down through the transparent image!

Is it possible to change the color black to a different color top bar where the clock and battery are displayed. ? Im not sure what that is called status bar heading or something.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
It's possible to change any of the images you see while on your phone... you can change what the buttons look like, what letters look like, nearly any image can be modified to how you want it... you just have to stick to the basic dimensions of the image and keep in mind what is going to be displayed on top of it so you don't pick a color that will blend with everything else making it hard to read.
The notification bar I believe is in the same folder and file as the pulldown background... it's named "quick_panel_notifications_bg.9"
How I did it all... I took someone else's MetaMorph theme (I forget the name or I would give credit), I opened it up, modified the images I wanted to modify, zipped it back up how they had it and placed it on my phone and applied it using MetaMorph. That's the easiest way to get around actually creating the images yourself or taking them from the phone and trying to figure out how to create a MetaMorph file from scratch.
Edit: Off topic, but I did the same thing with start-up and shutdown sequences... my phone is stock KB1 w/voodoo kernel and truly is customized to my liking... I don't have to worry about updating a ROM to fix a bug or applying multiple themes to get what I want... The custom ROMs are great, no knocking them... I'm more into the basics of making the phone better, not completely reworking it!

[Q] System App / S-Pen for cutting things out ?

Hey, I debloated @_alexndr ROM by myself and now after a few days I realize one thing:
I can't use this handy little feature to press on the S-Pen and cut out what's interesting for me, so I can
share it.
Basically what is working:
The cutting out animation is working BUT the window with all the options to customize and share is missing.
I think there's a system App I deleted which is supposed to deal with this.

That's exactly what I was talking about !
Is there any way to make a txt file by the device itself, so you don't have to type out all the apk's ?
Or can you just make a few screenshots of your system/app & system/pirv-app folder ?
As an alternative you could make a screenrecord and put it on youtube (or whatever).

Well, here I am again.
Unfortunaly I can't figure out what app or apps are missing on my device.
With the pictures given me by @celderic I compared my apps with his.
There were a few apps which I was missing which I put back to system/app or system/priv-app.
Sadly no changes !
So I checked all apps which I would combine with this feature and opened up the apk's to search for evidence.
As far as I can tell, PhotoRetouching_FHD_H.apk is responsible for what I'm looking for.
Funny thing is, I had this all the time on my phone so why does it not work ?
I can't tell and I can't think of anything I can do more, so basically this is a dead end unless someone wants to help out.

How do I get specific apps to use the full screen display

Some apps don't use the entire display. With some apps, I want it to use the whole display while in others I don't. So how do I do that? Also in another form, I read that you use the adb. So I got that but when I run adb devices I don't see my phone. Also my phone is charging, but I'm not able to see the phone on my file explorer either.
Also, I am just 11 years old, so I don't really understand this kind of stuff. So it would be much loved if you guys can explain this in basic terms.

So I got that but when I run adb devices I don't see my phone. Also my phone is charging, but I'm not able to see the phone on my file explorer either.
Also, I am just 11 years old, so I don't really understand this kind of stuff. So it would be much loved if you guys can explain this in basic terms.

Yes I tried that.... But the phone is not being recognized on my PC.
You have to go download the adb drivers from Google. And then enable developer options on your phone as well.

Yes, but I can't find the drivers for the essential phone...

They're not specific to essential. It's the Google drivers. My advice to you is to start researching this stuff before you begin utilizing adb or any other commands. At this point, we don't even have the stock images so if you screw something up you're SOL right now....

Use Minimal ADB and Fastboot. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Enable USB Debugging from developer options in your Android settings.
Connect usb cable.
Press yes on the phone.
Type:
adb shell settings put global ESSENTIAL_LAYOUT_WHITELIST "*"

Oh ok. So I understand how to get the drivers. So now I have to open the adb shell settings put global ESSENTIAL_LAYOUT_WHITELIST. But will that allow all the apps to use the full display?

You need the put in the "*" aftewards, because it's a white list the astrisk signifies "Everything" also, it's called a wildcard.
the full command should look like this:
adb shell
settings put global ESSENTIAL_LAYOUT_WHITELIST "*"
Ok guys, so I tried the command. While it has changed and allows some apps to use the entire display. Other apps still have a black bar on the top of the app... How do I remove that bar?
Yes so I tried that... but some apps still have a black bar on the top of the screen...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
That will likely be something the devs of the apps have to do as the screen ratio is a bit different than what they built the apps for. The best way I can think to describe it is like with movies. If you have a 4:3 ratio show playing on a 16:9 ratio the you're still gonna have the bars. But if you have a movie that can support 16:9 you'll have full screen coverage.
So is it possible to "Stretch the app" to use the entire display?

Very few game will likely ever work for this. The resolution and assets are typically not designed to scale to different aspect ratios like this phone has. Even the LG G6 and Galaxy S8 just crop off the edges of games when they make them fit on the display fuilly.
*Off topic*
Just wanted to say reading this thread and the fact that no one jumped down his throat for asking questions and helped him through the steps reminds me of xda back in the day. And slight restored my faith in humanity. Good jobs mofos ✌??

this is what some apps look like when you use the whitelist editor and hide the navbar simultaneously. youtube and google play movies look like this when you do both.
it looks like your game, by default, hides the navbar. have you tried using the whitelist editor app do nothing to the status bar and unhide the navbar?

I don't understand. What do your mean by whitelist editor app... What is that?

try using the app to not take advantage of the status bar by unchecking it. then override the default setting off your game by de-selecting the box to show the navbar. seems like it would be better to have a navbar than the black bar up top.

Thanks the app works for some apps. However, for most of my video games, there is still a black bar. Like I asked above... is it possible to get the app to stretch to the entire phone.
