Hi, some wallpapers that I made for my dexterised folio.
The 2048x1024 wallpaper:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5628/dextermod1.jpg
FolioMoD not DexterMoD of course! ;-) second edition:
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1079/foliomod1.jpg
A different one Foliomod1-1:
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/2558/foliomod11.jpg
it would be better with a foliomod-wallpaper as dexter isn't the only person working on this mod anymore. and it would be nice to give the others a bit credit as well =) but a nice background non the less
Hi, I have a question. I have recently downloaded a 1024x700 wallpaper for my folio but when I try to apply it only lets me take a small piece of it. Which resolution should I take for it?
Thank you guys.

I didn t search much more for a solution but in the basics settings I didn t find anything. All toshiba wallpaper seems to be like that.
Well, maybe is beacause if res. is larger and Android needs to crop the image you can select all image and when croped is being transformed to folio's resolution,
it's because of the wallpaper scrolling trough screens (so you need a wider wallpaper) and because toshiba can't do anything right (software wise).
the best solution, in my opinion. is to find/make a picture that's 1024*600. make a canvas around it in photoshop: like here.
save as a .png and put it into /toshiba/wallpaper/ using rootexplorer.
then (in launcherpro) disable wallpaper scrolling.
then you can select it from the toshiba gallery, and it won't be cropped.
someone should really make an app doing this automatically. i'm unfortunately no developer, so i have no idea.
So, as i understand; the file image needs to be croped (due to toshiba's fault?) and beacause of this image resoltion has to be larger.
But which resolution will work? (I mean, how much canvas do i have to add?!?!)
Thanks.

canvas should be 2048*1024, with anchor in top/middle. just like the example.
the cropping is an android thing, as android (officially) don't support screens larger than 800*480
this one is the one on my homescreen

I've tried to copy some wallpapers into the "System/toshiba/wallpaper/eu" folder but RootExplorer keep saying that the filesystem is read-only, although RootExplorer is granted SuperUser permission. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong...?
The system partition is mounted read-only by android.
Do you have an adb connection to your device?
If yes simply type adb remount to a console window to remount the system partition r/w

Hello !
I've also a lot of difficulty with wallpapers' size ... But I think I just understand how it do. I've just making a pattern for a 3 desktop home (see in attachment). I test on my folio and it's the good size normally.
I hope it can help somebody, by the way I prefer share it here
Edit : I forget to give you the resolution that I found, with ADW launcher ... A classical wallpaper is 2048*1024 (like original toshiba wallpapers), into wide mode, the resolution is 2048*600 and each desktop do 1024*600 (and central desktop is composed by the left and right desktop, like on the picture )
Edit 2 : @ kepler1982 --> I've just finished a tool which allow you to put your wallpaper directly into the good folder (/toshiba/wallpaper). It runs under Windows (it's a batch script) and it uses ADB. For the moment it's just in French but I will try to post it here tomorrow in English. It's a Ready-to-use tool
Hi again, what about this tool?
I hope I can add some apps and remove some others to foliomod in near future and I would like to add some wallpapers too.
Can you post some wallpapers and that tool plz?

To lose the least amount of details what I do is, re-size the image I want to use to 384x512 pixels then save it as high quality jpeg file. Then I rename the file to HomeBackground.img. Afterwards making sure there is already a custom wallpaper in use on tf3d, I copy the HomeBackground.img file to windows folder overwriting the existing file. Then to get the new wallpaper displayed I disable and re-enable tf3d.
The process is kind of long but I find it helps in preserving some quality.

So here is a basic new theme based on the iPhone interface, i called it Gaia because i was inspired by Gaia Vista visual style by Imrik.
THIS IS FOR WAD2
~ Landscape and Portrait modes supported
~ VGA only
~ BASIC interface, mainly used as program launcher!
~ Slide through screens
*Note
If you dont have auto rotation 'Lock image' rotates screen!
Portrait Mode - Lock Screen, programs 1-3 ('+' add application)

}
Portrait Mode - Notifications
Landscape Mode - Lock Screen, Programs 1-3, Notifications
I left the programs area 'BLANK' so nobody has to remap programs.
Program Screen 1 could be 'Most Used Programs'
Program Screen 2 could be 'Multimedia Programs'
Program Screen 3 could be 'System Programs'
^Just an idea
Feel free to mod/edit/change/hack any of the files but please link back to me

Ok if you copied the folders in the correct place and if you have a VGA device then you need to apply both the themes in the wisbar settings. Set 'Gaia iPhone' as portrait and 'Gaia iPhone L' as landscape theme.
You need to make sure your storage card is called 'Internal Storage' and nothing else. If its named something else, create a folder on the root of your device and call it 'Internal Storage' then copy the files over.

How did you add Phone, Text, Email etc. in your Dock?
You made a nice theme.

First you need to create a dock (docks are transparent so i create a template and then the image i want to overlay)
Then you need, tap and hold on the dock, goto new and then button.
Chose a button image for normal and pressed actions
Add a script to that button so it linnk to a certain appilcation or control.
On the button settings you can add text so it appears under or over the top of the button, you can also change, font, colour, and font attributes.
Hope this helps
Installation
Hi wez89,
I tried installing the theme but was unsuccessful. I need your help.
I have Wisbar Advance 2.7 installed and I have performed the following:
*Copied the Font file to windows\fonts;
*Copied BOTH 'Gaia iPhone' & 'Gaia iPhone L' to program files\lakeridge\wisbar advance desktop\themes - which is on my storage card;
*Copied the 'Wisbar Theme' to root directory on storage card; and
Furthermore I have added a "Internal Storage" file on the root of the device with the Wisar Theme.
Problem is that I can't load the theme from the settings screen. Should I try and load the default.dat file from the igaia folder?
Thanks, great theme.
Is it possible to have something like this for the WM6.1 or 6.5 'start' menu (Manila)?
If you edit local.prop in /data/ to include the line "ro.sf.lcd_density=XXX" you can set the density size on boot without having to run an app or do a restart every time. Put whatever numbers you want for XXX, 160 is default and the higher the number the bigger the screen items will be. I personally like 120.
This works well with the button_bar off trick to make the notification bar the usual size while still having the buttons up top. Plus it lets you fit another 4 or so apps on the Zeam launcher bar.

I'm curious how this might affect the crappy way the archos uses wallpaper? (cutting off the bottom of of the wallpaper) Would this change the way the wallpaper is scaled?
To be honest I'm not sure if it would actually shift the wallpaper or if that is independent of the lcd density settings, but either way it won't fix the archos wallpaper issue. If you see an actual image of what a picture would have to look like for the archos to make it "fullscreen" you'd see that proportionately zooming out won't work.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=46103&start=0
Your best bet for that is the multipicture app as much as it sucks to have to run an app just for wallpaper.
Yeah I know, I hate that damn app. Stationary wallpaper. Bleah. My favorite thing is to have scrolling wallpaper. I'm learning how to re proportion the wallpaper. I was hoping that might fix some of it. Oh well. I actually like crop wallpaper better. Just cuz I can still get my scroll on lol

"root gen8
create a file "local.prop" at /data/
add follow line.
ro.board.has_buttonbar=no"
You need root, obviously, and should install button savior. Do that and give it a shot, worst case scenario is you just delete the two "ro" lines from build.prop and local.prop and you are back to normal.
How where you able to edit the build.prod in the system fs.
I'm logged in as root but it keeps saying readonly file.
Please advice...
Try copying it to somewhere else, add the line, and paste it back in and replacing the old one.
That's not making any difference.
I su to root, superuser grants me root rights, but chmod, editing with vi, cp to /tmp edit en pasting back does not work.
Any other ideas?
Are you rebooting after you are done? To be honest, I copied it into my dropbox folder with root explorer, edited it on my linux box, threw it back in dropbox, and moved it back into /system/, but it shouldn't matter doing it another way.
In the market there are file explorers that grant root privileges. This should help you write and delete in /system/. Just remember to go into settings in the explorer and enable the root options.
XDA ICE GLACIER - THEMED / Never stock
I already have root explorer on my device, I will try this in the morning.
I tried to do it in a terminal emulator but that's what giving me te problems.
So, I tried using another file manager, but writing in the system fs is not going to happen on my archos 101.
Just to be clear I'm running the out of the box firmware/kernel that I rooted with Archangel.
When I get a chance I will start from scratch and note my steps to do this. If that doesn't work it would have to be something to do with archangel, i guess. By chance, you aren't in RO mode are you?
Just know I'm not blowing you off but it might be a day or two. I have a horrible feeling (in my mouth) I need a root canal.

Nope /data/local.prop does the trick. No need to change build.prop.
right,
follow jerry101 at "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940198" and add this line "ro.sf.lcd_density=130" to "local.prop" at /data/.
Cool, glad that you guys got it working but I did it using the build.prop on my 101. Odd.
Regardless, I'll edit the first post since local.prop works.
I've got a few wallpapers I'd have liked to use for my GT10.1's background but noooo, Samsung/Google likes to make it so that we can't just set a wallpaper in it's native resolution.
The tablet's native res is 1280x800, and that's what all the wallpapers are in, yet I have to drag that stupid box around and it never gets it totally in and winds up resizing it and making it look stupid. It is an injustice. On a far less silly note, it just looks pretty horrible.
Any way around this? I tried some slideshow app that let you set it, but that was for live wallpapers and didn't work too well.
I use wallpaper slidshow, it works good and the pictures looks great. The res off your wallpaper should be 1920*1408
https://market.android.com/details?id=app-com.birbeck.wallpaperslideshow
Instructions by member gqstatus0685
1. Download the wallpaper
2. Download Wallpaper Slideshow from Market
3. Use a File Explorer
4. Navigate to your DCIM folder,
5. Create a new folder called Wallpapers
6. Copy/Move the wallpaper into that Wallpapers folder. Only one picture in this folder, placing more pictures and you can loop between wallpapers on your home screen just by tapping svrren twice.
7. Use the Wallpaper Slideshow and go into folder and set the path to the map you just create
And if dont want to use a program and you have the knowledge you can do your own backgrunds.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the wallpapers need to be higher resolution than that if you don't want them to be resampled. Scrolling left/right on the home screen reveals different sections of the wallpaper, as does opening the apps drawer.
As such, the resolution of the stock wallpapers must be a fair bit higher than 1280x800 -- unfortunately, I don't know what it actually is though.

1920*1408 is what to use
The easiest way I've found to do it is by using my ImageShack acct. You can use whatever image host, but anytime I find a potential suitor for wallpaper, I put it into my SGT folder on IS and then you open the image (full size) in the browser and long press on it and set as wallpaper. That way you bypass all that scaling/re-sizing mess and its easy to flip back and forth between wallpapers by just going to your image host.
But like the fella above said, make sure and use larger images. It doesn't have to be 1920x1408, but that is the target.
*You can see what I mean by googling image search for 'Honeycomb Wallpaper' and the first result is from Zebcogs.com with image name glowy_hex.jpeg. Open that image full screen in the browser and then long press ---> set as wallpaper. Much better result.
Tried that but that will automatically chop the wallpaper and it's not the full resolution.

This seemed to work perfect for me.
And because of that, I just made a .psd file to make it easier to make backgrounds in the future. Just go into slice mode, slap the picture you want into the middle area, color the other sides appropriately, then set it and forget it.

Wall paper slideshow. Since I like to rotate walls anyway it makes for easy switching (double taps).
I found that opening an image from a website in the browser; press, and hold on it and select "Save as wallpaper" sized the image correctly, and set it as the wallpaper. The only problem with this method was that it does not save the file in the wallpaper gallery.

In this screenshot you may see that notification bar icons are just scaled down icons made for HDPI devices, not for MDPI. Same for app icons in theme, scaled down HDPI icons. What I want to do is to fix these graphics for our device so it will look properly.
Who can help me to do this? I am nice in graphics editing and UI design, but just a random user of Android, not a developer or pro...

Actually, MIUI was never made for any mdpi device, so all the pngs used in it are hdpi ones, the mdpi devices hv got it working by directly resizing the hdpi pngs to mdpi. You would have been able to do so by using originally made PNGs for any mdpi device by MIUI team, in your ROM, but unfortunately they didn't do so!!
The only way now is to improve those mdpi PNGs to some extent by using some graphics designing softwares, by adjusting sharpness, hue, saturation, etc. May be adobe Photoshop or similar ones can do this work.................

1 - Download FastStone Photo Resizer
2 - Extract images from desired APK
3 - Put the folder address where you extracted the images on the address bar on the left of the program
4 - Click on "Add All ==>"
5 - Check "Use advanced options..." and click on "Advanced Options"
6 - Check "Resize" and "In Percentage"
7 - Set the Percentage to 66.67, leave the filter as Lanczos3
8 - Click OK and set an Output Folder
9 - Click on "Convert" and wait
10 - Profit

It's simple, just open it with 7zip or any program like that. As for putting them back together on the APK you'll need help from someone else.

Basically you said what I wrote, but rephrased it a bit.
I want to know how to extract these PNGs.
And another bug here, this time related to MiHome. Look at the cropped photo frame on attached screenshot. This is not how things done! That's bad! And some other widgets gets cropped too. I want to fix it, if somebody have any suggestions about how to do it, please, post them here.

Oops, sorry, totally forgot. How to extract APKs from phone? Are these resources all in APKs? If not, how to extract?

There are two apks responsible for notifications and other UI elements-
SystemUI.apk, which is in /system/app/ and framework-res.apk, which is in /system/framework.
Extract(decompile) these apks with apk manager or any same tool. You'll find a "Res" folder in there. Inside it, there will be a drawable-mdpi folder. Here are most of the PNGs, which you can edit and correct. For both the apks, case is same. When you'll open them, you'll come to know which PNG is used where and how......
Hope that helps now!!......
