wouldn't you just use bluetooth to transfer data? therefore saving the exersize of changing settings? (Might sound stupid, but i might learn something.... )

USB Synching WITHOUT Charging, Is it possible???

Hi,
i've googled around but haven't been able to solve this problem: every time i connect my magician to the usb port in my PC, it starts synching and charging at the same time. I know this is correct behaviour since USB ports are able to supply power to connected devices.
Anyway, i'd like to know if there's the possibility to avoid charging from the USB port (while retaining, of course, synching capability).
I need this hack 'cos i often connect my magician to the pc only for the time needed to sync my contacts/appointments (just a few seconds/minutes) or to install some small programs and i fear that recharging the battery for so a short time and 5-10 times a day may reduce its capacity or even destroy it.
I'd like to sync my magician without recharging its battery, do you thing it is possible? Is there a registry hack (either in ppc or in winxp) to disable USB power supplying? Do i need to manually hack my USB cable by cutting out the red and white power wires?
Thanks for your help,
bye bye,
Isidoro
You really have nothing to worry about. Lithium rechargeable batteries do not mind having small frequent top ups.
Ni-Cads on the other hand, yes they would be ruined.
Your phone uses a Lithium battery so as I said, no need to worry.
If you really wanted to, you could build a custom USB cable which does not carry the power, by omitting the GND and +5V pins (the first and the last pin of the usb connector).
This is not really needed, because modern batteries don't get damaged by multiple recharges...

I tried it but it didn't work: the phone doesn't charge, ok, but it doesn't' sync too!!! Winxp doesn't see it.
Maybe i should keep ground wire?!? Mah!

I know, i know, but i would definitely feel more safe if i could sync without charge.
Anyway, thank u all,
Isidoro
Use bluettoth to sync the device with pc, your problem will be solved.
All 4 wires are required for usb to work.
Removing any of them will prevent USB operating.
As stated, it doesnt matter about the top up charging, dont worry.
Disable charging
Disable USB charging
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
and change the
EnableUsbCharging to '0'
then
soft reset
I'd like to try this on my Ameo. How do I use the REG files contained in the ZIP file? I am using the Ameo to connect my laptop to the Internet. It works great over a USB cable but I cannot get it to work with Bluetooth. I am concerned about constant short recharges. Is there a special folder to put the REG files into? How do I make the Ameo read the values before doing a soft reset?
Thanks
Bob
Hi
I'd like to try your solution with editing registry on my T Mobile Ameo. Could you tell me wwhat I need to do with the REG files. Is there a special folder to put them in? How do I invoke the setting before doing a soft reste ?
Thanks
Bob
@pedjajovicevic : my magician does not have this registry key
I searched for that key you wrote,
but this key doesn't exist on my (german) magician.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
Under BuiltIn there are many subkeys, but no usbfndrv, i searched the complete Builtin key but no key you wrote.
Can you tell me, where I maybe can create this key. Would it work ???
OK, i will try, but i don't know when. Two childs hold me away from my notebook
Are those registry files executed from the phone or the PC?
on your device.
but it won't work - there are no ways disable usb chargin in Magician via regsitry.

Connection manager...?

Hi all,
exists for Xperia something like on HTC when i connect USB cable it will ask how i want to connect it? I searched for this tools, but not found...
Thanx a lot, and wish to all merry xmas
The Xperia doesnt ask the question when you plug in the usb cable however you can manually switch it between Activesync mode and File transfer mode by going to
Settings - Connections - USB to PC
Regards
Craig
Offcourse i know that, but it should go to port this feature from HTC, TF3D is working, this should be for some cookers few minutes work It would be nice to have that on Xperia...

htc touch hd usb wont connect to pc

hi had my touch hd for ages now, and it connected to my pc with no problems, now all of a sudden its stopped working it charges but doesnt let me transfer files to it, i tried reset hard and soft
please help
go into connection setting- usb to pc setting and under the 1st option Activesync, UNTICK Enable faster data sync...
it worked for me
why don't you try to connect to your PC via Bluetooth? When that is working, chek another USB cable to see whether your cable is faulty. Might be a cause because it suddenly stopped working. Good luck
Dan - are you trying to connect with ActiveSync, or as a USB storage device?

I hope it's not this
but it's possible to break the data connection (wires ?)
but not the rest of a usb socket
I did it to an mp3 player
all I could do is charge it
if the connections are ok and it does't ask (active sync/disk/connection sharing)
you might have ticked the box that says don't ask
that can be set back again can't remember how
but there is a thread on it somewhere on xda
found it
start -> settings -> usb to pc ->
I do have exactly the same problem....tried EVERYTHING....no success....surfing the net saw many are experiencing the same problem...

Normal use - Bluetooth, activesync supports it natively.
Flashing - SD Card flashing.
BT is damn slow -.- (possibly because of my USB 1.1 Port?)...
SD Card Flashing mmh good idea
No other way? If Im not wrong I heard sth about a second USB Port? Or was it for the expansion Pack? When you open the Battery Cover?!
Thanks

yes backpack should work too but nobody managed to use it yet.
BT will be slow, hima use BT 1.0 so you won't get any higher speeds. It is not much slower than USB connection, really.

What does your device say when you connect to PC: ActiveSync, Diskdrive Mode or Shared Internet? (When you connect to PC on your device a screen pops up with these three possibilities. Which one is activated - I think Diskdrive Mode, if yes, change it to ActiveSync).

Oh yes, btw - take out your battery for about 15 mins and then reinsert it.

Just some other suggestions:
1: here is a link to download and reinstall ActiveSync:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3a-28bf-4cac-a682-58d3233efb4c&displaylang=en
2: Could you try if you can connect to ActiveSync with Bluetooth?
3: Go to settings -connections - USB to PC and uncheck "enable faster data" - soft reset and reconnect.

Try suggestion number three of my last post first and if this still does not work, reinstall ActiveSync (see link).
What you also could try is, despite that your device is charging when connected to PC, to use another USB Cable.
Regarding going crazy: do not panic, we will sort this out, preferebly today!!

Then we have to try more drastic solutions:
Send me some more info about your device, like ROM version, Radio version, (H)SPL version etc.
Enter bootloader mode and tell me exactly what's in the upper left corner of the screen.

BTW, did it ever work?

You mentioned earlier that on your USB cable there was no HTC label. How did you find out that your USB cable is for Nokia 8600?? If that is true, than indeed that might cause your problems. Funny though that it will charge and be glad it did not brick your phone entirely!!
Did you buy your HD2 new or not? If not, than the selling "idiot" included the wrong USB cable!! You have to have a HTC USB Cable to get it all working.
BTW: you did not answer my question if it ever worked!

Mine enters completely into the phone. I therefore think you're a victim of, to say it as polite as possible, from someone who does not can differentiate one USB cable from another and send you the wrong one with your phone. Be glad that this did not brick your phone, because Nokia USB and HTC USB are totally different. Get ASAP an original HD2 USB Cable and please give me your feedback on that!! If you would be so very kind, then please press the Thanks button if you appreciated my help sofar! I'm doing this for free and sorry that we could not solve this problem today due to hardware problems.
