Galaxy S/Vibrant wiki site - Vibrant General

I have unlimited hosting, and I was wondering if I set up a wiki if anyone would be willing to help keep it up to date. I would love to consolidate all of the knowledge from this forum into a single, organized site. Searching through these forums can get very daunting with threads in the hundreds of pages. Please post if this would interest you, or if you would be willing to help with content or editing.
Edit: I can also provide hosting/mirrors for devs that are interested at no cost.

A forum is not a CMS

I think it's obvious to everyone here can agree that many users, especially new users, have a lot of trouble finding out which builds to use, their advantages, how to install, etc. They end up posting asking some already answered question and experienced members respond with the classic "RTFM". While these new users could search through multiple, 100+ page, constantly updating threads, can we really expect them too? Nobody honestly wants to spend over half an hour searching for a single answer or post. This is inefficient. We need a wiki or some maintained resource that we can point users to that clearly lays out all the builds, developers, features, tutorials, etc. I tried putting something together last night. I learned that for one, I am not good with putting together a web resource, and 2, this is going to take multiple contributors to maintain.
I am by no means trying to dictate to or criticize the community. We have some great individuals here. I only hope to make this community operate more easily and efficiently.
Have you tried http://wiki.xda-developers.com/

Yes, I'm aware of the xda wiki but it doesn't contain the content we need yet. Maybe a documentation team can be formed to start filling the wiki?
Of course, that is how all wiki's start. All it takes is that one person to stop posting a new thread about their directions and instead post it in the wiki.
And if you send me the links to the wiki pages I will put them in the corresponding threads to help get the word out.
Great! Is there a policy regarding copying and pasting tutorials and such? Giving credit to the author of course..
Just credit the author. Wiki's are made so that you can copy info from other places and just cite them at the bottom.

Introducing Forum Specific Mod

Hi everybody,
Let me introduce myself. I'm M_T_M , your new forum mod for the HTC Wallaby.
I've been on xda-developers for over a year now. Mostly visiting the devices I own and supporting other forums with the experince I've gathered on this great site. Maybe some of you have seen me lately in the forums helping a little.
Now, I'm happy and honored to be appointed to the HTC Wallaby forums to provide mod assistance to all of you in the best way I can to this great community.
I'm here to help you and I expect the same from all of you .
If you experience any other way of approach from members, feel free to contact me through PM, or report the post by using the "!" button in the post.
Additionally, I want to let you know that I'll be doing some forum maintenance (cleaning threads addressing an already discussed topic or an off topic, moving threads or posts to proper sections) for making it easier to all of you get the information you are seeking and keeping the forum clean.
Cheers

Please make a Support subforum

I very much enjoy the XDA forums. I also frequent the Modaco blade forum.
My biggest annoyance is that Modaco Blade forum has become overrun with repetitive posts from newcomers.
If you scan the first page there are so many "How do I..." or "Help!..." posts and if you go to the second page you'll usually see the same question with an answer. This does not make me want to frequent the forum which is a shame because I am passionate about android and this phone.
I very much support newcomers but believe there should be structure to the support given.
I created a video guide and it just got lost in the depths of Modaco, then about a week later there were a few posts such as "How do I put video on my blade?" etc.
PLEASE create a forum just for support questions like "How do I change the brightness?!" This will make me stay at XDA Blade.
Thanks,
Andy
That's what general if for post tips and guides when enough ill compile a sticky same as other sub forums 'in the meantime will stick anything important'

Got it. Good to know there's active structure.

Dear Mod

Hello,
I've been scouring these forums for the past week for information on how to develop my own rom, During my search I have found that many other people are asking the same question. I'm wondering maybe it could be a good idea to create a new forum to bring all of these questions together along with the various tutorials for beginners that are currently available into a new section, i.e. Chef central for beginners, where people can learn together and share there findings and maybe the more generous of the knowledgeable members could pop in and give us newbies some occasional help.
Just a suggestion.

Rooted Wiki getting spammed, new URL for Fascinate

The Rooted Wiki page for the Fascinate
://wiki.rootedwiki.com/index.php?title=Samsung_Fascinate&redirect=no
has been getting trashed by a spambot for almost a week now.
To salvage the good information, I restored an old version and moved the page to a new URL. You can find all the content under the address below. (you'll have to add the http to the links)
://wiki.rootedwiki.com/wiki/SCH-i500_Fascinate
This link is also under the Discussion tab for the original Fascinate wiki page. So far the spambot hasn't touched that part.
I'm not a moderator for Rooted Wiki, just an interested user, so I don't know how to or who to contact to lock down that page or the 2 IP addresses that the spambots are using to edit the original page. Someone really needs to do that though.
Also, I've only been a lurker around here for the most part (but a very satisfied customer). So I don't have the required 10 posts to post a new thread in the developer forums or reply on the pinned thread that lists the original link for the Fascinate Rooted Wiki page. (or make the above links live)
If someone more senior could pass along the info to the Developer forums, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks guys,
FasterN8
