MyTouch 3G will not download 1.6 OTA.

Hey guys, I recently unrooted my phone, which means I'm stuck on 1.5 for now. I went to check for updates, and the 1.6 update is there. However, every time I click download, it says downloading for just a second, then stops.
I've tried rebooting, using wifi, using 3G, and clicking download like crazy. I also tried finding the manual 1.6 update, but I couldn't. Any help?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found the manual update for 1.6. If anybody else needs it, go here.

This happened to me too at first.
Did you use a backup program to restore all your settings while still on 1.5? Data from 1.6 is in there and it prevents the update from taking. Do a factory data reset again and this time wait a day before using a backup program to restore any data. The update will come through in about a day.
During this time you can still download whatever you want from the market and it shouldn't affect anything.
thanks for the link. which file do i DL to get 1.6 on my original mytouch 3g
just used sappimg.nbh to get back to 1.5 in expectation of 2.2 dropping tomorrow
Here:
I found a mirror with 1.6 for the MT3G:
http : // and then type www . mediafire. com/?t3zlwdzzqqx
Sorry for the formatting... I'm not allowed to post links.
Don't forget to do the second 1.6 update (DRC92 -> DMD64)
You can find the file at the same link the OP gave.

This worked perfect for me, thanks for the post!
One question though, this considered a MANUAL update, right? Not an OTA update. Just asking because I'm trying to figure out if I can use the SPL Official method for updating to 2.2, posted in thread 807899.
Wondering if its safe to delete the second update.zip from my sd card? I went to delete it says "Delete failed- system restriction" and will this prevent me from receiving my 2.2 OTA update?
No it shouldn't matter, and there is a manual froyo update as well

Impatience is a virtue.
I had been running CM5 before I found out about the OTA. Decided to downgrade to 1.5 and wait for the update. Realized (thanks to you helpful cats) that I'd probably need 1.6 in order for the update to go well, but, since Froyo was already available via manual update...
Worked like a charm. DL'd the DRC92 and DMD64 and installed accordingly, then installed all 3 of the OP's files in order and it works like a charm. So far 2.2.1 is a snappy little update and I love the look. Not totally thrilled about the T-Mo branded stuff but it's not intrusive, either.
And now, to root...

[Q] No luck getting a mod to install

I followed this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045) and got all the way through, but when I restart the phone I get the phone symbol with the red exclamation point. power off and back on and it's just the sprint logo in an endless loop.
Phone is a 2 day old EVO, hardware version 4. Can I recover back to how it came from Sprint or get an OS to work on it?
Ok, copied the PC36IMG back to the phone and reinstalled it... now i've got version 2.1 update 1 of Android on my phone... can I update it to 2.2 OTA?
Used the latest RUU from sprint to fix it... gonna leave the phone alone from now on. I'll check up to see if a stable root method comes out for this phone. Seems like this current generation is a little more work to root.

[Q] How do I put a rooted and ROM'd Eris back to factory

First of all, let me apologize if this is already posted somewhere, but I'm having trouble understanding some of this.
I rooted my gf's Droid Eris and put a custom ROM on it. She doesn't want it and wants it put back exactly like it was when she got it from Verizon. This means 1) not rooted 2) Android 2.1 w/ Sense (the exact same ROM she would get from the factory).
Everything I've read so far has me doing factory resets (which puts it back to the fresh modded ROM but not the factory ROM) or has me trying to do RSD Lite, but every forum post I read has a broken link to the file because I guess it's illegal to post it or something. Additionally, I can't find instructions for following that method with the Eris anyways.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
btw, I'm new to rooting so treat me like a n00b...
I did a nand restore back to the when I originally rooted the phone. It now has 2.1 with HTC but the phone is still rooted.
Also, when I rooted the phone, whatever it did to root it (put something custom on my phone) it turned the trackball light on and that just won't turn off... even when the phone is off!
I'd love to just get this thing back to how it came from the factory.
Maybe if you try searching the Developement Forum, try something like "return to factory stock"
And in the future before you do anything to a phone, you might want to research how to undo it first, I bricked my first eris because I didn't bother to.

Sure. It's pretty simple, really. Download and install the Flashback21 ROM in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
It will return the Eris to factory stock and remove the custom recovery on the phone. I'd do the one without the radio myself.
A friend told me that there is a way to set a phone back to how it came from the factory by installing a factory ROM directly from Verizon through your PC using an app called ODIN. I'm having trouble finding information for the Eris on this process.
I think this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks so much!
I'll let you know if it fixes that trackball issue for anyone else who may have searched that issue
This did work! I noticed that the ROM wasn't exactly like what comes with the phone when we received it from Verizon (which was the same day). I am basing this off the type of wizard that opens when you first turn on the device. It wasn't rooted, though, and did put back what appears to be a stock ROM of 2.1. It's going back to HTC/Verizon tomorrow.

There are no customizations in this ROM - period.
The "stock" setup screens certainly changed between 1.5 and 2.1, and may have changed slightly from the original HTC/VZW 2.1 OTA to the July 2010 2.1 OTA update.
Having said that, there is one other thing that you might have noticed: you didn't see a device activation screen during setup. That is because NONE of the dev ROMs here on the XDA Eris touch the activation state of the phone - including Flashback21.
If you want to deactivate your phone, you need to perform the Factory Reset process from the OS menu, and a "stock" Eris recovery must be on the phone. (So, if you desire to do so, go ahead and do a Factory Reset after you have installed Flashback21)
If you have already turned in your phone, then no worries - the carrier usually deactivates the phone from their side.
Anyways, that's probably what you noticed. Flashback21 is completely stock.

unrooting for warranty

So after hours of searching, and being on the verge of tossing my phone against the wall I am asking if anyone has the stock rom zip file that I can flash. Everything I am finding leads to broken download links, or corrupt files.
I have also tried to get HTC sync to work, so i can just flash the new update and be done with it. But I can not get HTC sync to see my phone, no matter what rom Ii flash before hand. I currently have a old reworked 2.1 rom, was hoping that would be seen by HTC sync.
Uhhh dude so are you trying to push it back to stock? If so, google FROYO 2.2 official mytouch 3g slide an their should be a thread on tmobile.com saying something like "ladies and gentlemen, froyo 2.2" (or a variation of that) an it will hav instructions on how to install Stock 2.2 froyo! I hav rooted and unrooted my phone 3x literally with it (if I get bored with root I go back to stock, and vice versa) and if you ever want to re-root, go to my thread in this forum (how to get the most out of your slide) and I hav a link on how to re-root your device. I really hope I answered your question!

Thanks, going to do that one tonight. Not sure how I missed it, I must have assumed I already looked at the thread just from reading the title?
ended up unrooting it before work, and updating to 2.2 just to be safe. Everything went smooth, other then having to restart the update process when I hardly bumped my usb cord disconnecting it. But that was the reason for the warranty.
the stock esprimg.zip file can be flashed via rom manager OR recovery and then do the update to 2.2 using HTC sync, just FYI if anyone wanted to know.
I tried flashing the esprimg.zip through rom manager, and had no luck going that route. Its been so long since rooting it, I didn't think to load the esprimg using the vol down/power combo.
You're always safer doing it from recovery as you can get some bad results doing it through rom manager.

HTC Hero Sprint wont boot after sprint update

just bought this phone off of ebay and it worked great. I was using it with wifi and everything was good was gonna try to get it set up for boost mobile or something similar. there was a sprint update so I figured maybe it would make it run better so i said Yes to the update and it rebooted my phone and now it is stuck the the green HTC logo with the white background screen and wont load off of that. I tried doing a restore from the bootloader menu but its saying the update.zip is the wrong one. I tried installing the 2.1 update from sprints website . but that is telling me i have the wrong bootloader. So not sure what to do im stuck and just want the phone back to working. I had not rooted or done anything to the phone yet it was still setup for sprint. Thanks for the help!

Was the phone rooted when you installed the update? Look if you have clockworkmod installed on the phone...If the phone can go into bootloader, you can reflash software on it, try the RUU for it from the HTC website, not from sprint
Keep me posted how the problem evolves
Stefan
I have tried the RUU update from HTCs website and it says that I have the incorrect boot loader

If you have a device from Sprint then it's a CDMA model. So, wrong forum.
Not sure which forum it belongs in could someone please move this for me? Any ideas on what I can do? Data-loss is not a factor as I barely used the phone before the update
