Is there a way to take screenshots directly from the phone, without the need of another app?
Possibly if rooted, but I dunno as I'm not. Just install "ShootMe" from the market. Galaxy S phones don't need root to run it.

Can we use SuperOneClick Root to root this device? Any ideas?

No, that's for the Galaxy S phones, to root your phone download "VISIONary" from the market, that will root it for you

Nice but it didn't list the model as one of the choices?

There is no root yet. Have to wait
visionary works but it will unroot itself the second you reset the phone, it will be fine if you leave quickboot on though
This is crazy, but why would someone want to root this phone?
Custom Roms, Free Wireless Tethering, Overclocking, Undervolting, that kinda stuff.
for me it was to use titanium backup

What app do you use for Screenshots? I used Visionary and ShootMe says it can't get permission.
EDIT: I ran Visionary a second time and got it to work...

I've rooted every Android phone I've had, only to add features that it didn't have, but this phone, no thanks, no need for root - it has everything I've ever rooted for ready to go right out of the box!
same for me.

Can't you already do that? I don't really see the need with this phone though, seeing as it has 1GB of internal space.
I use titanium backup with tem root OK. However, I want to do image backups, and need permanent root to be able to restore them.
Alos, currently using a cleaned up base ROM on my Nexus. I would really like to see a TMO cleaned-up-cleaned-out ROM someday - they loaded this up with way too much junk.
Will fiddle with the work-arounds in the meantime, but permanent root and cleaned up ROM is the only way to go.
I REALLY need to root my Vibrant so I can lag fix it. Is there a root method yet for the Vibrant with the 2.2 update?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
just use super one click root its really easy one click!
super one click 1.6.5
This app needs .Net Framework 2.0 or higher to operate.
1. The first step is to download Super One Click Root App and save it on your desktop.
2. Once this is done, connect your phone to the computer. it is important to note that after connecting the phone, you must not mount SD card.
3. Now go to phone settings and enable USB Debugging.
4. Once this is done, launch SuperOneClick.exe by double clicking.
5. Now click on Universal tab on screen if you are going to root any Android device like Nexus One, Galaxy S, Droid etc. Click on Samsung Captivate if that’s you phone.
6. Now simply click on Root tab and wait for the process to finish. It will take some time so hang in there.
7. After the rooting is complete, click Allow Non Market Apps if you need to.
There you go! you now have a rooted handset ready to accept any custom ROM.
I hope this helps
Follow the guide in the link, itshows you exactly how to root and flash a rom.

I say root and install Bionix v 1.3.1. Follow this link here for help. Probably one of the easiest methods.
Im hesitant about rooting my phone or not. If I root my phone, I think the bad guys could stole my information or do bad things to my device.
Or maybe when some app for example root explorer needs admin rights android will ask for them (like windows 7)?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Rooting a phone gives you 'administrative' rights similar to on a PC, it gives you more control over the phone and allows access to system files which would usually be hidden if you was not rooted.
Rooting is easy and is reversible. it is not dangerous and quite a lot of apps require root access.

Yes you will be prompted by the superuser app.
Thanks. But if you are not root when you buy sgs, why can you install new apps that if im correct go to the data folder (root required)?

When you first buy your phone you CAN'T install Apps that require root access... you need to root your phone first.
Most Apps don't require root as they aren't installed in the Ram but on the internal SD card. This is the same Ram vs flash memory arrangement that has been used with mobile devices since the Palm Pilot.

I am not sure I understand this or its right or wrong. Am just confused about this
However to the OP question. Installing from the market/app isn't the same as you copying the file yourself. So your question is pointless. If a process/app/mechanism already has access to it, like the market what is has to do with you not being rooted in the beginning?
The bad guys that came with the rooting of my phone, made my phone 10 times faster and smoother..
So I love those little bad guys!
rooting is the first step to a new world... welcome
There is an app in the market called Voodoo RootKeeper. It's suppose to backup your super user permission. Meaning you can unroot with a click and then re-root with a click. Which would work great with OTA downloads without losing root. Has anyone tried this with their Xoom?

Reading it more closely, it looks like it wouldn't help much if you have a custom Rom or kernel, just if you're rooted stock. Then you could use it to take an OTA update and then reroot. That would be cool.

It also would be a viable tool to use for apps that won't except root. Such as movies in the Market. You could switch to unroot download movies then switch back to root when you're done.

I'll try it tomorrow before I flash the new Eos nightly. Actually, there's a chance it might not work with ICS I guess. I'll try it anyway.

Ha. I installed the app then was unable to unlock the screen. I was panicking until I realised I'd just changed the pattern!

Doesn't seem to work on ICS. Installs OK but doesn't show device as rooted. Also there's no unroot option so can't test properly. Similar feedback on the Market for Galaxy Nexus owners.
Ah well, I tried!
Thanks for sticking your neck out! Too bad it didn't work.
I have found a way to easily unroot galaxy tab by simple apk without any loss for data or the need to flash stock rom again, the apk is gingerbreak, install it and choose unroot and wait for it to reboot, and now you are unrooted with one click
Note : this app is not mine it is for a famous developer and i got it from android apps forum and tested it

Not readily a guide. Should probably be in the apps section.
Can't wait to see what happens when someone uses it. My tab came with stock honeycomb not gingerbread so waiting to see just what happens.

The biggest reason to wait is I don't need to unroot my tab.
But if I did it would probably only be for warranty coverage where I would want the software to match the actual stock version it came with, maybe a later version due to ota updates, but wouldn't use this and risk them asking me why my tab has older software on it than it was shipped with. They'd surely realize I could have only accomplish that by rooting and unrooting thus voiding my warranty and them knowing it.
Could probably wait for the updates to be pushed, but it would take me less time to unroot manually using the correct version to begin with.
Probably a great app for those needing it for some specific reason.
Just personally of little use. No offense.
