Google Apps for Domains and Email client - Galaxy Tab General

Anyone managed to get Exchange ActiveSync working on the Tab Email client with a Google Apps for Domains account?
I know my domain is set up correctly, because I can use ActiveSync support on my Desire with these accounts, but on the Tab although everything seems to be ok I do not get any email in my Inbox and in "Accounts & Sync" settings, there is only the option for Contacts and Calendar sync.

exchange setup could not finish: Unable to connect server
Mine doesn't connect at all. When I checked at mail.mycompany.com phone option I see it already register but couldn't complete the registration but got access denied message on access state.
Anybody have this issue and know how to fixed it?

Somehow it works, but only one time and cannot redo
Just wanna update this thread. After hard reset for the third time suddenly the active sync connection is working and show a pop up of whether I want to continue being forced to have a security policy forced to Galaxy Tab.
It loads around 2 minutes, then goes to security setting and set screen lock.
After that the account sync!
When I try adding one more exchange account it fails with the above error message again.
A bug in the android mail app for pushed security policy, perhaps?

Make sure you have "Allow non-provisionable devices" checked in exchange.

Cingular 8125 unique exchange server problem

Ok...I set up an account with web2mail's exchange server...i upgraded to summiters 2.17 rom to enable push email.....and it all worked great up until now(a good month at least). Out of nowhere I couldn't sync with the exchange server over gprs but it would work fine when i was syncing through usb or was connected to the internet through 802.11. It says synching folders and then stops and just displays the last time it synched through other means, i click to check the status and get the error code 0x80072f17. I have checked my gprs settings and have no problem accessing the internet through internet explorer. I noticed another odd thing...I soft reset my device and my recent programs were still listed under the start menu after the reset, normally these would disappear. I though maybe i need to do a hard reset so I went ahead and upgraded to the 2.3 cingular rom on this site hoping that would fix it. But it hasn't, I have the same behavior with the exchange server and the recent programs list (not sure if they are related but..). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DirecPush E-Mail works by maintaining a constant HTTP stream to the Exchange server. What might be messing you up is the Cingular proxy, which I believe might interfere with this HTTP stream.
If you haven't tried it yet, disable the proxy and try again. If you have, then I'm barking up the wrong tree.
Thanks for your response DonnieZ but unfortunately i have already disable the proxy and that didn't help. As an interim fix I have resorted back to XPress Mail and now I remember why I wanted Microsofts direct push to begin with....because it is terrible....
Has anyone else had this problem?? I don't know if anyone has a solution but I would feel a little better if i wasn't the only one with the problem!

It appears that cingular has blocked encrypted connections on their media net plans because they want to charge you more for ecnrypted push email as they are releasing AKU2 this week.....just a heads up
had similar situation... resolved by selecting to use unsecure address for mail2web exchange in device, e.g http:// in place of https://
and unchecking "this server uses a secure connection" in activesync

Cingular, WM5, and SSL
I'm using SSL for my Exchange connection, using AKU 2.3 (Mr Clean), and Cingular.
Couple of points:
1. Mine works, so much for the Cingular SSL theory.
2. To use a SSL connection for Exchange, the ROOT certificate for the authority has to be in the trusted list on your device. For example, a root certificate for Equifax was in the list on the device by default, but the actual Equifax root that issued the cert for our ActiveSync site was not. I extracted that root cert and added to device before setting up sync, works like a dream.
3. WM5 does not support Wildcard certs by default. (*.mymail.pfm) To enable wildcard support, create the following value in the registry:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\{GUID OF SERVER CONNECTION}
"Secure"=Dword 0x000001)
The GUID should be easy to figure out, it will be the one with the values referring to your Exchange server.

Might be your password! At work we have a 90 day lifetime on our domain pasword policy, when we get into the last 10-15 days of that password lifetime you get a message when logging into your PC that your password is expiring soon. When this happens, I have the same problem as the original poster, but, when I change my PW on the domain and then change it on my Wizard, I can sync just fine again. The only thing that I can think of is there is an extra bit of data coming down the pipe with the password exchange notifying of the expiration and it is messing with the sync. This has been verified twice with my account and once with a manager's xv6700.
mail2web ssl
I am using T-Mobile GPRS and free mail2web account. Direct Push and sync over GPRS had been working perfectly over the past months.
However, service quit last Friday or so (notice the date in ageezee's post!!!). Same here: Sync over 802.11 works with the very same server settings. Over GPRS only Error 0x80072f17.
Contacted mail2web service. Recommended restart, disabling of SSL and activating SSL again. Didn't work.
Got Direct Push and sync to work over GPRS after disabling SSL permanently. Might be a mail2web server problem. Still waiting for another reply from service.

Syncing and Exchange Server

Since I've had this phone I've failed to sync with the Sync Centre. It just results in errors every time.
However, because I will be syncing everything that will be on my exchange server, how can I set up this exchange server on the X1? I don't mean the email address only, I need it to connect to my exchange calender, contacts, mail - everything.
I sync to my exchange server via mail2web with no problems - keep in mind if you are syncing to a pc as well you need to select only one location for calendar & contacts.
Isn't it possible to put in the exchange server details directly into teh phone without using 3rd party software?
Is it true that vodafone have removed the exchange feature from their handset?

you don't need 3rd party to set up exchange activesync, it's out of the box.

this is relating to the SSL. Either you have setup an activesync w/o SSL connection, or your PDA clock might be wrong that makes the SSL certificate invalid.
That's assuming your exchange server side is okay.
I've just discovered that everything part from mail will sync if I don't specify my exchange in Vista. When I do that's where the errors show up.
As for exchange on the phone, I will get "network waiting" when I disable SSL. This actually appears to be an issue with many WM devices. What do you mean when you say my clock might be wrong?
The simple Version:
Authentication inside of Active Directory runs over "Tickets" for every User. If the clocks between 2 Ressources are too tifferent, the Ticket becomes invalid, cause the time is an important component of the encryption.
The savest way is to let the phone sync its clock with the exchange server - after Active Sync configuration
For doing this you only need working SSL-encrypted "Outlook Web Access" and your Exchange account have to be "Active Sync"-enabled (an admin has to do this).
Windows Mobile shows you all information yout need to set Active Sync up.

At the moment I am syncing everything from outlook on my pc, not directly to the server as the device was designed to do
Mine works with my Exchange 2007 server without a problem, out of the box. I just entered my server address, my domain username and password.
Are you sure the server is set up correctly. The exchange server has to have OMA (Outlook Mobile Access) set up. Are there any other devices syncing with the server correctly? Is port 443 open?
Something to note I had to install the security certificate of the server on my phone before it could sync.
I use mine with an Exchange 2007 too. After installing the server
all the necessary features are turned on automatically:
- OWA (Outlook Web Access - website)
- OMA
- Active Sync user role for every account
The OWA-website has to be accessible for public. And the server certificate (for SSL) has to be installed if it is selfsigned
(it is if your browser shows a certificate warning on computers
outside of the company network). Copy it from the browser to
your phone and (double)click it for install. Alternativly ask your network administrator for help.
If the cert is bought from an official worldwide trusted cert
seller like thawte or verizon this should not be neccessary.

Problems with the default Exchange Mail Client

I've just bought my Galaxy S.
I have problems with the default Exchange Email client from the phone.(is this Samsung one, or Android?).
At the begining it was working fine, without any issues.
I made a firmware update using Odin to I9000XWJG5 and it was not working anymore. When I was trying to configure it all the time I was getting "Unable to connect to open connection to server". I checked with a USB tracing tool and I saw that the email client is crashing.
Meantime I updated to the last VDF Romania verision I9000BUJF5, but the behaviour is the same.
What it is starnge is that I installed an Market Exchange Clent, Touchdown, and it is working just fine (using Active Sync connection to Exchange Server).
What do you think? Which can be the issue?
The funy thing is that with an other I9000 with the same software, is working the default Exchange Email client! So it is something with my hardware?

I have same problem. Any solution? I use 3rd party like TouchDown and RoadSync are working fine. Is this ROM problem?
One more thing: the same behaviour is hapening if I try to configure yahoo mail!!! It is a problem with the embeded email client!

though touchdown works, but it doesn't integrate with the phone and other Widget.
Still prefer the Exchange client comes with SGS.
and looks mirceal has a more serious problem than i do, I only can't sync the calendar, unlike mirceal, can't sync anything

On my side I have already tested a lot of mail app and a lot of ROM ( australian JG2 I think and JFF, JM2, JM5, JG8 and JP3)
For all the 3rd party mail app ( htc work mail, k9, touch down) it basically works all the time
For the integrated mail app I had the following issues :
* Unable to connect to open connection to server for all the exchange account
* Unable to connect to open connection to server only on the subfolder ( the inbox was working)
* Unable to connect to open connection to server for the Hotmail
* Hotmail mail downloaded but not displayed ( can't even see the list of mail ... just the count on the first mail app page)
This problem occured only with some ROM and sometime with the same ROM it happened or not after a reboot
For instance on JFF, JG8 and JM5 I have never been able to see the mail coming from the subfolder of my exchange account.
I works fine with JM2 and JP3
For the calendar, I have seen only once working with JM2. With this ROM instand of having 1 exchange calendar I had several calendar coming from my exchange account ( one for every type of event like work, family, personal ....)
Now with JP3 the calendar doesnt sync so I have to use gmail to sync my exchange
So no solution to propose ...
Iwill install again tomorrow JM2 to see if the mail and calendar definitely works with this one

Good news from my side!
I found the issue I experienced.
The things are as follows: when you configure for the first time the default client, it's firstly connecting to ssl.samsungmobile.com server!!!! This I noticed only after I installed wireshark program on the mobile. My problem ead that I am using a separate APN for checking emails. This APN doesn't have access to internet. So it was impossible to reach that public server!!!! And the error was "unable to open a connection to server". It was speaking abot the samsung ssl server and not my company's Exchange Server!!!! Crazy thing.
So at the first time of email client connection setting I used the internet APN till the internal setting algorithm reaches the ssl.samsungmobile.com connection and when it tries to reach the Exchange Mail Server I switch to vpn APN. And the Exchange emails are working without any problem!

(let alone that ssl.samsungmobile.com is not a valid address).

It seems, however, that the client is in contact with the server: when I enter a wrong username, the error throws immediatly; with the correct credentials it takes 3 times longer.

So, I can see that the mail client doesn't integrate with Exchange's security policies. Very bad job indeed, as TouchDown AND HTC (Desire:Froyo) do quite well.
Is somebody please going to request Samsung to speed up?
Exchange 2007 vs. 2010
I just discovered that on Galaxy Tab, the mail client can deal with an Exchange 2007 Server with security policies activated, but it cannot get the compliance check done with Exchange 2010.
This is a known issue with certain versions of Android OS on phones available from different manufacturers and service providers. The only verified solution that we know of at this moment has come thru this community, as 'Mitch Roberson' has written below, I have marked that as an 'Answer' as well.
Now, let me list some related details here for everyone's information.
Phones are actually running into a provisioning issue against Exchange 2010 Server. This is evident from the IIS logs pastd below by some users and the logs we have seen in Microsoft Support. For example, you will see the following in IIS Log:

You can see that the Android mobile device is sending a 'FolderSync' EAS command to server for user JohnDoe with the DeviceID = Validate and Type = Android, and is being blocked by Exchange as it is not responding properly to the provision command from server. This is implemented thru Default Throttling Policy and the error it geenrates is error code: 449 (which essentially means device provisioning has failed). Generally this happens when client does not respond properly to provisioning commands from server where server informs mobile device that there are certain EAS policies applied by the Exchange Server Administrator and device needs to acknowledge those for implementation. This happens mostly when the device does not support all or a subset of EAS policies being implemented by the Exchange Server Administrator.
If you bring up the EMS command prompt and enter the following command, you will see the following output (similar to what we saw above in IIS Log):

We have seen this issue mostly with devices using Android 2.1, users who have been able to update their devices with Android 2.2 somehow, stopped running into this issue, without making any changes on the server side.
I contacted HTC Support (on 9/28 via http://www.htc.com/us/support/e-mail) about this issue and they responded (like other users have reported here), please keep in mind this can change at any time in future, so please contact HTC Support directly for updates:
"At this time we do not have any Android based device that will sync with an Exchange 2010 Server. We may provide future Android devices that do offer this. However, as there is currently no release information for any upcoming devices, we encourage you to continually visit HTC’s product page at http://www.htc.com/us"
While working on this issue we also discovered that Android provided limited support for EAS policies and is working to continually improve it in their upcoming versions. For more information, please see related posts below. Again, this information is subject to change at any moment, so please refer to Android website (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list) for current info.

Fix for this issue is in the Android 2.2.1 Update, released recently (for Nexus One users, may not be available thru other service providers at this time, contact your service provider for any updates that they can provide for your device), Android now implements the policies it can rather than ignoring all policies and thus it can successfully sync with the server.

Focus and Exchange Server ActiveSync

I picked up the focus yesterday and have run into an issue syncing with Outlook/Exchange Server 2003. I receive the error code below after the email account setup runs for a bit, I get contacts and calendar entries, then a few emails before the error is returned (everytime I try to sync later as the msg suggests). I tried finding the error code referenced on MS Support/Forums, AT&T Samsung forums, and even xda developers with no luck.
I did try a hard reset (from settings) and then recreate the account and I tried removing the hub on the start screen and then deleted the account and recreate same error every time.
Samsung Tech Support suggested that I add the same Certificate on my Server to the phone, Did so - still, no luck.
Anyone see this error/issue?

Mine has worked flawlessly. Sounds like you did everything I would have suggested except return and get a replacement phone.
I had that problem. the cause of mine was to have the SSL turned on. After I created the account, I went to setting>email and choose the outlook account, clicked on advanced, then scrolled down and uncheck the SSL checkbox. All worked perfect after that. although I guess I am not super secure.. but anyone that wants to hack and read my email.. feel free pretty boring.
It is obviously a software issue. How can a replacement phone solve any problem.
If your exchange server does not use public certificates (the ones that your company has to pay for), or the certificate comes from some publisher that WP7 doesn't know about, it will be touch to set it up. For one, import the server certificates directly does not work. In the past with WM phones, MS suggests you need to import the root certificate instead. So, see if you can find the root certificate for it.
agreed - was able to get Corporate Store to allow me to try settings on another Focus, with same results.
can see the Folders on my Outlook (some are unique to my Exchange Server), so we know that we are nearly there. little more tweaking, and also, update to a new Server,
but, that might not be for week or so, so if anyone has solutions, would be much appreciated.
I had problems with mine and worked with our Exchange admin. We found it was the encryption part of our policies. Both Device and Storage card encryption parts of the policy have to be turned off. After some research this is correct and expected to be fixed in Early 2011 when Microsoft starts pushing this for business.

That is really strange because my HTC Surround took my alpha numeric password just fine for my exchange email. Haven't had any issues with it at all.
Do you mean a password for the domain or the screen lock password? They are talking about the policy that requires a alpha numeric password (or not allowing simple passwords) for unlocking your screen. Our company allows simple passwords (just numbers) so I didn't see the problem.
We don't have a certificate,and all I had to do was go to advanced and turn off encrypted SSL connection ( I also have alphanumeric and symbol password for exchange)
I am referring to the screen lock policy in Exchange. Of course alphanumeric and symbol passwords for exchange/domain authentication will work.
Installing SSL Cert (quick and dirty)
Email your server's SSL cert to a GMail account. Hotmail blocks the attachment as an unsafe filetype.
Open the attachment and Phone7 should ask you if you want to install. Go back and set up your Outlook account.
Got mine working on Exchange 2003 even after the error messages
This happened to me as well. We have an Exchange 2003 server and what I did was go to "email and accounts" on the phone and went through the proccess and setup everything correctly but still got the error messages.
Now this is what fixed my issue (strange). I got out of the "email and accounts" and went into all programs list and opened "Outlook" , from there I put the settings in again for my account and presto, it just started working and syncing.
I did 2 phones likes this already and it works. Dont ask me how, but it does.

[Q] problems configuring exchange

Hello everyone,
Taking advantage of the USA trip of a friend, I asked him to buy me a Nexus 4.
Now I'm trying to configure the email of the company where I work, which uses a Microsoft Exchange server. When I try put the server, domain name and credentials it says that "the Exchange server requires security policies not supported by this phone!"
Please consider that in the past I've configured an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4, an HTC Buzz (both with the original firmware and with the Cyanogen 7.1) and a Galaxy S plus and a Lumia 610, with the same settings without having any problem!
Is it possible that Nexus 4 (or Android 4.2) support less security policies than older and less powerful phones?
Do you have any solution or trick?

I want to add that when I configured the other phones in the past, I was asked automatically to configure a PIN to lock the phone. Now it does not happen.
