Can galaxy s support games like Iphone 4?
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
It does support some of the same games like Asphalt and Angry birds
but in general Android isnt ripe for gaming yet
It doesn't have too many games yet, but there are quite a few good ones. Android development does seem to be accelerating actually.
One engine which might be popular in the future (ID rage) has been ported to iPhone but carmack isn't committed to porting to Android yet, so it's hard to know what the future is like, but Android is getting pretty cool
You guys think 3.0 gingerbread could do it?

It has nothing to do with the OS ahmadzais and everything to do with the developer support.

Mostly.. If Carmack does finish rage for Android though, that will be cool.
There are plently of top games on android and many play better then an iphone (3gs 4g is fine).
These are the main games I have on my galaxy S at the moment, they all play perfect and some are very good graphics. And this is only a few of the 100s of games available for Android....
Krazy Kart - Galaxy Freebie, this is a mario kart style racer with powerups etc

Asphalt5 - Galaxy Freebie, a 3D racer with high frame rate and good graphics
Angry Birds - Free from Market, a good puzzle game, the object is to kill pigs with a variety of birds shot from a catapult
Tiki Tower - Free from Devs website, a puzzle games the object is to get all the Monkeys from A to B whilst collecting all the bananas
Real Football - £3 from Gameloft, A footbal sim what more can I say
Hexen II - Free supports full controls (must own full game for pak files), plays just like the original on the pc though controls can be tricky
Guitar Hero World Tour - Can't remember where I got this from, only supports 3 frets and seems to want to download each song as and when you play it but does play ok.
Heroes of Sparta - £3 from Gameloft, very good 3D adventure game big swords and lots of blood
PapaStacker - Free from Market, the object of the game is to stack blocks of various shapes, and sizes and the stack must balance before the time runs out to progress
Zenonia - Fairly cheap from Market, an RPG game but I haven't given it a proper whirl yet
Avatar - £3 from Gameloft, 3D game with little simularity to the movie
Snesoid - Get your roms out plays all, use the lite version save your money
Gameboid - Again use lite version
Dungeon Hunter - £3 from Gameloft, and RPG based on lvling a character of your choice with XP, weapons, items etc one of my fav games atm
Kwaak3 - Quake3 Arena, still working on getting BT keyboard working with this, but the game itself plays very well
PSX Emu - Playing Final Fantasy VIII on this atm works perfect.
Sandstorm - £3 from Gameloft, this is a "COD" fps style game.
I agree, Its not up to our system as if you look very closely iphone 4 and sgs almost share the exact hardware. Their A8 cortex cpu is actualy a hummingbird cpu with minor changes being ours is just a little more powerful (just a little) and Samsung actualy builds the cpu for appl

OP: Emexrulsier has covered most of the good stuff, but there are some more like Fruit Ninja, Abduction 1 & 2 and a few more games from Gameloft.
The games run just as well or in some cases better than on the iPhone (e.g. Fruit Ninja works a lot better on my Galaxy S compared to my iPhone 3G).

Hello,
I have two concepts for games to be specially developed for the pocket pc platform, they're both, in my opinion, very solid concepts and most importantly they capitalize on the touch-screen interface of the ppc.
I am, by trade, a 3D artist, I've worked on a few games before and am familiar with working within polygon count restrictive environments but have never been required to do anything for ppc, not many people have apparently judging from the lack of content out there.
So my question is, can a good 3D engine be developed for the platform and how restrictive would the limitations be, also, how much more difficult (if any) is it to code for than x86 (I'm not a very good coder so I wouldn't be doing any of the programming)?
Seeing fpsece (playstation emulator) run at relatively high speed on my XDA II gives me hope, because we all know how inneficient emulation is, so surely a native renderer could achieve spectacular results?
This would be a paying job of course but I need to work out if it is viable first.
Thanks for any input you may have.
The first idea is a sword fighting game where the touchscreen controls the positioning of your character (ie; sword up, sword down, move back, jump, duck, strike forward, strike downward) in 3D using an end chain effector using an inverse kinematics chain setup.
I've seen lots of flash (macromedia) demos that achieve similar things, not in 3D, but there's no reason it can't be done, I can setup a rig in softimage that can do more or less what I'm talking about in real time.
Second idea is a 3D flight combat game on rails, going through many environments you play the gunner on a craft (not a spacecraft since it can also travel through atmosphere), I've already got a voice actor for the female pilot - she controls your flight path and you just have to handle the weapons systems (think mechwarrior 2, where you had a hugely interactive control panel; shields forward, shields aft, charge EMP, weapons selection etc.) - think miniguns blazing, targetting missiles, exciting environments to zoom through and a good story behind it. Inspirations for this one were einhander (psx) and mechwarrior 2 (pc).
I'm not going to go into too much detail on here but if I can get some programmers interested then we can really get these projects moving.
well being that doom1 2 quake 1 & 2 and dukenumem 3d and heretic and hexen have been ported to pocketpc (from pc) and run just fine
even though it dont use the special image chip from ati at all
i'd say that 3d engiens can run on pocketpc's
and made for them if one feel it's necessary
but imho then i'd never really play those kinda games with a pocketpc
and havy gaming would wear down even the most persistent screen protector dont even want to think about what it would do to a pocketpc without a screen protector
Ah, but I think the pocketpc lends itself to a unique type of game, one which the pc can't emulate (unless you buy a tablet pc I suppose), the interaction between screen and stylus really has not been exploited except in perhaps 2-3 games (ICBM and that one with the bricks, balls and paddle come to mind).
These units get heavy screen/stylus usage under any circumstances, and anyone not using a screen protector have no-one to blame but themselves. Even so, I don't think it would be as bad as even solitaire, since solitaire you're always hitting the same area of the screen, these games would have alot larger interaction area.
oooh and about an engien then try looking at this

three and a half year bump
Well, recently graphical posibilities of this platform has been pushed much farther. Even older devices with 600MHz XScale processors were capable of running Quake II at reasonable FPS without any 3D acceleration. With today's 3D accelerators level of visual quality used Quake III should be easily achieved (was possible without acceleration years ago but in low FPS).
Yeti 3D engine:
http://www.intuitex.com/yeti.html
Call of duty 2
There's a Call of Duty 2 port for the PPC. It ran reasonably well on my 400Mhz iPAQ 4155. It even had multiplayer.
Also, Descent was ported to the ppc.
Sadly after 2003's Tombraider I havent seen a better 3D game:

Thats over 5 YEARS and still no better match!
And its not because there aren't good games or better mhz machines... companies rather do silly puzzle games for ppc than a good 3D game.
And I'm refering to oficial ports, because the Quake's are obviously better.
The Yeti 3D I posted before is a very good and extremely fast engine, and its been around since 2004, why nobody uses it is beyond me.

Welcome to xda, i suggest you do a quick read through of the rules to avoid getting yourself in trouble (or any of us)..... there is a link in my sig.
Try google if you would like to find the game and legitimatley obtain a copy of it. If you will read the rules though, you will see that we do not support software piracy (cracks, serials, ect)

Edited : The Sims 3 HD download file :
Here, the Sims 3 HD of my Xperia X10.
I have backup it with Titanium Backup.
So you must download and install Titanium Backup before you can install+play The Sims 3 HD.
Titanium Backup can be found on the Market (rooted required)
Here the link of The Sims 3 HD : NO WAREZ
After you download it, you must extract the content of your downloaded file to sd card:/TitaniumBackup folder (if not found it, you can create a folder with name "TitaniumBackup" on your sd card)
Then, go to Titanium Backup app, and then restore The Sims 3 from Backup/Restore tab.
Enjoy your The Sims 3 HD

PSP is so much better. For example: Persona 3! All the TALES of games on PSP.
Dynasty warrior multi raid 1 and 2!
metal gear solid peace keeper!
and DYSSIDIA!!! BEST GAME EVER!
I love valkyria chronicle which is coming soon.
You only live in a world with phone games, you never have the true taste of real gaming yet! Most of the games you posted up there would most likely get a highest score of 5/10 @ ign. almost all of them are crap in ps3/PC/xbox360 version.

You're probably right. Same applies to Pocket Legends. I think the second list is existing Android games and upcoming Android games that will support the Play's gamepad soon.
LOL @ fapin' btw ^^
Lumines for Xperia Play is in the Market, however at launch it was set up to be incompatible with the Xperia Play as the Market saw things, so you wouldn't be able to actually purchase it. I poked the guys that made it and they fixed it so that it can be bought now. Also, you will find it when looking for Xperia Play Optimized games either with a manual search or with the automatic one you get from a button in the game launcher.
I also already have sent them a bunch of bugs to fix.

I've had no issues rotating pieces. You could alternately use L/R to spin them.
It just doesn't feel very fluid I guess. It works, but you can't hold the dpad left or right, you need to keep tapping it.
Also, I'm going to buy a Gameloft game. Just not sure whether to get Sacred Odyssey or go with Rainbow Six. I'm leaning towards Sacred Odyssey as I already have enough shooters, and a fun RPG with the Play's controls would be great.

Has anyone tried Eternal Legacy on the iDevices and tell us how it is? It is the only game I find sort of compelling, and not too much actually...
In response to someone asking about Lumines... It's a little on the buggy side, but still very much the same game you know and love, just with different themes. The gameplay sometimes becomes slightly unresponsive but nothing terrible by any means. There is no smooth transition between skins at this point. I don't know if they are planning on making any fixes at this point or not, but I sure hope so. Even with all this, I'm happy with my purchase.
Just as the title says, what do you think would be a great game or games to have on this phone, but try to be realistic, for example, don't say Mass Effect 3 or anything of that sort, that's what OnLive is for. I'll go first.
I think Grandia 2 would be a great game to have on the Play, it was originally for the Dreamcast. It even looks like it could be an Android title in the first place IMO.

Precisely Grandia, like other turn-based RPG or strategy game, is the kind of game that I wouldn't mind seeing in any Android phone, but which wouldn't fully use the virtues of the gamepad. In fact I think those kinds of games which don't require reflexes or speed of mashing buttons are better suited for the touchscreen, provided that you solve the issue of moving the characters. Games like Final Fantasy Tactics would be very nice to see properly ported to an Android phone.
A good fighter (that excludes that abortion called Fight Game Heroes which came about some time ago) is something we're sorely lacking, and which would use it. The Soul Calibur series would be legendary, a dream come true.

I would love to have Doom 3 on the Android. That would be sweet. The requirements aren't even high at all (may need an OC'd Play since 1.5GHz is the minimum). The demo was also released for Linux, yet it was most likely closed source so that wouldn't work. Just a cool thought.

First the bad news: The first thing I plugged in was a PS3 controller and it did not work no matter what I tried. I tried it on the Nexus 7 2013 and it worked instantly. It seems the Moto X does not have the drivers pre-installed so you will need root to get it to work.
I also picked up a Mogo Pro. The controller is great. It feels like a combination between a PS3 and Xbox controler. It's powered by a rechargeable battery and has two modes for a bluetooth connection. Mode A is a special mode that opens up the full functionality of the controler with the app (only works if the app is running), mode B puts the controller in a standard universal game controller mode for use with any bluetooth devices. Games will only work with mode A if the app is designed to support it. Most games should work with mode B.
The app is poorly written (literally the ONLY app on my phone that is slow and stuttery) but it gets the job done.
The Moto X fits perfectly in the little holder.
Games
Here's a list of games I've played with a note about quality.
FPse - Playstation One emulator - Works well (I've only got one game because they are massive. 600mb a pop.). The Playstation is probably the most advanced platform capable of mobile emulation so far and it works really well. However I'm finding out that native android games blow the PS one out of the water. Only useful for the nostalgia factor. Works in A and B mode.
ARC Squadron: Redux - an iOS game recently ported to android. Plays like Starfox. No controller support. (It will kind of work in B mode but its not designed for it.)
Anomaly HD - have not tested. Strategy game.
Dead Trigger/Dead Trigger 2 - Lots of fun. Basically you shoot zombies. Graphics quality is great and it can suck you in and scare you if you get attacked from behind. Good halloween game.
Hero of Many - have not tested. Role playing game.
Hunters: Episode One - Strategy puzzle war game. Have not tested with controller.
Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour - Fantastic game. Better graphics than dead trigger. If I had to say, I would put the graphics between Socom 4 on the PS3 and Socom 4 on the PS2. The textures and lighting effects are similar to the PS3 but the character animations (the way people move) are like the PS2. The sound is also fantastic. Multiplayer here is just as engaging as it is in the modern warfare series. Takes up 2gb! Largest game by far.
Pacman - Classic
Pirates! Showdown - Tower defense game where the computer constantly cheats. Fun but repetitive. No controller support.
Pivvot - fun puzzle game. Have not tested with controller.
Radiant Defense - The best tower defense game out there IMO. No controller support.
Riptide GP2 - Great graphics. Boat racing game. Works with A and B mode. Your jetski feels really heavy and sluggish. I don't like it but its clear thats what the developers were going for. Fun if you're into that kind of game. This is one of the few games where I do better with the tilt controls over the controller.
rymdkapsel - VERY fun sim city like game where you build a civilization and defend against aliens. If you're doing it right its a huge time suck because every game lasts like 35-40 minutes. Very atari like graphics but don't let that keep you from trying it. No controller support.
Sector Strike - Side-scrolling space shooter. Fun but repetitive. Also the pay-to-play feature is very present and unreasonably expensive.
Shadow Gun/Shadow Gun: Deadzone - best graphics of all the games so far. Third person shooter. Supports A and B modes. Lots of fun.
Ski Safari - ski free for android. Very fun and super addictive. Can be played really quickly while waiting at the DMV or something. no controller support. Basically you just tap to jump and do backflips.
Star Command - Very fun strategy game. Plays like an old gameboy color game. You put crew in battlestations to fight an enemy ship while sending security officers to defend from aliens that beam on board. The graphics in the pictures look janky but it's actually a really sophisticated game. Music is great. No controller support.
Syder Arcade - ridiculously hard side scrolling space shooter. Controller A and B support. This is another game where I am better without the controller (I think the game actually has a higher difficulty when playing with a controller).
Tetris - Not tested
Super Hexagon - Really fun puzzle game. Controller support. Atari-like graphics. Very fast.
That's all for now!
For me I only want to play old school games using emulators by Robert Broglia (Snes9x, GBA.emu, NES.emu, GBC.emu), which controller would you suggest to use with the MotoX for these?
