Something Is Sucking the Life Out of My Battery - Streak 5 General

My Mugen EXTENDED Life battery arrived this week and I am not getting the sort of hours that I thought I would get .. I have WiFi and GPS turned off and still getting 24 hours with NO USE AT ALL .. But first....
I use Advanced Task Manager and I just turned on my Streak after not touching it for 24 hours. I go to the area where you END TASKS and I don't think there is one thing that isn't running. Even programs that I have never used since I downloaded them.
It's like my Streak is possessed. It has a mind of its own. ALSO, no matter what I do I cannot make the screen stay on for more than 10 seconds. I change it to 2 minutes but within no time at all it has gone back to the 10 second turn off.
When I end EVERYTHING I close and open Adv Task Manager and these are now running ..
Alarm Clock
Calendar
Outlook Tasks
Tasks Storage
Advanced Task Manager
I wanted my screen to stay on so I could STARE AT IT and see what starts running first, making EVERYTHING follow ..
aaarrrggghhhh ... Am I just going insane ?? I am not kidding when I said that EVERYTHING was running when I turned it on for the first time today.
Diane
CLOSED Advanced Task Manager. Played a game called Beads .. Opened Advanced task Manager .. Besides the ones that were already running .. this is what is running NOW.
Swype
Maps
Beads turns on my maps ?? Playing a game starts Swype? I guess it is a chain reaction? If the Streak checks my email something else will start? I have CNN and a few other News websites on the Streak. They started by them selves or something started them during the time the sStreak was in my purse and also one of my Twitter programs started by itself last night. ONE LAST THING. Beads was NOT running. I ended the game and it really ended. Still it turned on Maps .. or something did.

Yep .. that is MY POST also. I need an answer to my problem. Is posting in 2 forums a no-no ?? I posted here first and nobody has replied, cept you. meanwhile .. my streak is still opening random programs.

you can post as much as you like. i do recommend changing that one parameter in build.prop. dunno why that was ever set to 0.

Please check the frequency of email-fetch on your Streak. It might be so, that it checks your emails kinda every 5 minutes, which kills the battery so fast!

What rom r u using?
Maybe a factory reset N install a new rom I.e 2.2
Also has to do with refresh rates on your Widgets, I had the same problem when I got my streak back in June, I had every screen with an updating widget N it just killed my battery. Looked flash to my mates though, until then started laughing at me having to recharge all the time.

I looked and don't see that to change. Someone said should we add it? My other question is what program do you use to edit those files .. seems they open and read only.
ALSO .. I will use the same name here to avoid confusion .. I actually have 'shEEEsh' on both boards. I created the other account one day because for some reason I was having problems logging in. I can't figure out how to unsubscribe.

Hey ..have the same problem...battery life sucks ..and decreased the brightness and stuff but no change ...
Being a newbie to android ..need you guyz to help..as shEEEsh pointed out ,how do u edit the build .prop file ..I used astro to open the file in text but could not find any reference to " debug.sf.hw"....need help here friends ...this is my primary phone ...and need it to run atleast for a day ....

What have u setup ss your mail app ?

I'm having the same issue. Yes I have several email accounts that are checked every 15min. Maybe it's normal but my Touch Pro2 would go almost 24-hours with the same configuration. I unplugged my Streak from the charger 7 hours ago and it's at 59% right now. I am noticing the battery life is getting longer as it goes. First day the battery didn't last 6 hours and it was at 1%...

just my gmail and 1 yahoo account. Now Im not using it as a phone anymore and its on flight mode, its still draining its battery fast
And my shock is, I'll leave it fully charge when I go to sleep and in the morning I'll see it 47% left in its battery. Device has no sim card, on flight mode and not being use, and still consumes that much battery???
Its on DJ Steve's Froyo 2.2 v1
My last hope is the official Froyo to fix the battery drain and bluetooth headset in-call volume issue.

I did a complete reset and whatever the problem was is now GONE .. After the reset I did an over night charge. Woke up Sunday with a FULL Mugen Extended battery. My son played with my Streak for hours Sunday. Mostly YouTube and internet radio. I spent lots of time re-installing all the programs and entering email accounts etc. I have my settings to NEVER turn the phone screen off because it is just annoying .. ESPECIALLY when playing a 'thinking' game.
Today has been 72 hours since I unplugged it from the charger and I am at 58% .. I am not going to put it on the charger until it won't start !!

using 3g data will eats your loads of battery.

Does Peep use any battery/data if I don't use it?

I don't use twitter and so I have no login details stored. Does it still use battery and data despite this? I have read that signing up and then going in to the settings and changing the update interval to a long time can save battery but I would have thought at the moment with no login it will never be checking for updates?

I don't see why it would be doing anything if you haven't signed up.
I'd install Taskiller and see if it's running.
Has to said, I doubt it'll make any real difference if your phone's getting automatic facebook and email updates.
Good point, I am running push email with gmail so that is going to push battery life back a bit. I disabled all the facebook stuff as I don't need that either. Getting almost 3 days out of it which is pretty good but still feels poor as I was used to an E51 which would usually manage about 5! Still this phone is way better...
3 days!
I wouldn't expect to get that kind of battery life at all so I think you're already doing well!
Well I say 3 days but I do turn it off at night so it is only from about 8.30am until 11pm most days...
Wow, I only get about a day out of my Hero, but then again I use it really heavily. Browsing, emailing, texting, GPS, music player and calls.
The great thing about the Hero is that it has a standard USB port at the bottom and you can charge it anywhere. I was at a friends a few days ago and my Hero was starting to run a little dry. I took a spare USB cable lying around and plugged it into my friends laptop for an hour or two. Hey presto - my phone was good to go for another few hours!

Well I'll be damned!
What the...! I didn't realize the Hero had a standard connector either! Looking at it, it sure doesn't look standard but it does work. Thanks for that
is doing that a good idea? Tried it on mine and it's quite a squeeze... i'd rather not do it if it'll damage the socket.
It's made for the miniusb, never used anything else on mine (cable sent with the phone still in the box)

I think Ive found the cause to the battery Drain....

Ive been working away with Artemis Ver 9.0 and Radio 2.09. The battery has been superb e.g 3 days worth. The other day I setup Windows Live and my battery drain within 10 hours of very very light useage. I was not ever sign in to messenger but hotmail must of been checking for new emails. So I got back home and logged out of live and disabled my hotmail. Now my phone has its battery life back. I cant put it down to anything else because I had full signal and nothing else running.
Also this fixed my problem with the front screen crashing.
What do you think?
Not sure if you know, but you can change the frequency and time span in which your email is checked. I'd set it to check during a specific period throughout the day, and only every hour or so, depending on your needs.
I made sure hotmail was set to manual but that didnt do anything. I think there might be some sort of bug

How I solved a big part of my Atrix Battery Problem

So I got my Atrix just over a month ago. For the first week to two weeks, battery life was GREAT! But then suddenly I'd used 70% of my battery in 3 hours, and wasn't getting through the day.
Sure I'd downloaded a few apps, but the focus of MY device is personal email and phone calls, and that usage hadn't changed. So SOMETHING was amiss!
I looked at the apps I'd downloaded, running apps in the background, and I REALLY didn't see the issue. So for a week my battery was nearly dead. One night I LET it die. Ran it into the ground and charged it ALL the way back up. It seemed better for a day or two, but then the problem seemed to come up again...
Frustrated, but not wanting to have to Factory Reset my device, re-root, re-enable tethering on my data plan, etc... I looked for other options. And about this time, my Social Networking app wasn't updating. Figuring I didn't really need it anyway, I first disabled it, then used a 3rd party app to uninstall it. The icon is still in the phone, and I can still open it... but it NEVER updates.
Well, since doing that... my battery life has been MUCH better! I think the Social Networking was keeping the radio running WAY more than it needed to be. And now that it's disabled or whatever, I'm not having 1/2 that battery drain. Getting through the day isn't such an ordeal, and I LOVE my phone again!!!
Dunno if this will work the same for others, but thought it might help a few folks. Best wishes!!!

I had the same problem and did the same thing and it solved my problem also.
Just tried that, and unfortunately I'm still having the terrible battery problems. Battery barely lasts through half the day
you know, your phones come with a battery manager in settings, so you can see what app / service is draining it.
Instant messengers for example, no matter which one, drain the battery a lot.
I usually turn the phone on at 7:30am and turn it off at 12:00am and am left with 40% battery, although i am a very light user. One gmail account, one twitter account with 15 minutes sync, whatsapp, light browsing and sometimes a phone call here and there.
If you are using Facebook, the new update seems to be killing my battery. I force stop the app after every use.

Wakelocks and 60 Hours of Battery Life

I know that there are several threads about battery life in the General forum, but I decided to create a new one, cause I want this thread to take a different direction, and actually help the owners, which are having problems with kernel wakelocks as me.
So... here it goes. I decided to make a test by using my phone mainly as a PHONE ! From the screenshots you will be able top see exactly what I did with the phone for the last 60 hours. Just to mention that my phone ISN`T ROOTED. Wifi sleep policy set to ALWAYS ; auto brightness ; power saver on except 30 minutes when I wanted a brighter display at direct sunlight ; Auto Sync on BUT - almost everything set to sync off or manual, except weather, gmail (mail and contacts) and one more mail sync using the mail app. Used some internet, made some photos, listened to some music, checked mail after notifications, refreshed blinkfeed couple of times just to go through the smartphone headlines, checked battery usage and software update like 100 times lol - and there are the 2+h of screen on. I don`t use facebook, twitter etc.
And now comes the most important part and the reason I started this thread in the first place. I got like 4 hours of held awake time. In the screenshots provided you can see where these hours exactly came from. I`m absolutely sure that HTC One can manage to achieve like 3 full days of normal phone usage if it wasn`t for those sick wakelocks I`m getting (and I`m sure most of you are getting too). I know all of you have read that "7 hours screen on time" and saw the screens from some guys with 7+ hours screen on. If you pay close attention you will see that their devices worked for more than 10 hours and they got less than 10 minutes of Held Awake time. What I`m trying to figure out is how they achieved such thing.
One more thing I would like to point out if someone decides that 4 hours of held awake time are something normal for a 60h usage. Keep in mind that phone lost 1% per hour while I was asleep, which I don`t think is something normal, cause I read alot that people are loosing like 3-4% for 10 hours during the night (someone even mentioned 1%).
So basically please use this thread to discuss any wakelocks (mainly kernel related) you have and ways to get rid of them. There are alot of threads going on in xda about almost every single wakelock I`m experiencing, but I think the info is different for every phone out there. I tried almost every suggestion, but without any good result.
Here are some screenshots from Gsam Battery Monitor, BetterBatteryStats, and Battery in Setting. If you like to see a detailed info please use the dropbox link. I won`t discuss every single screenshot I made, but just want to point out two interesting things I noticed. Although facebook app is TOTALLY disabled in my phone, I still have it as a working process that is causing wakelock as you can see in screenshot 13 in dropbox folder. And also I have turned every single option in Maps to off, except first option (Google`s location service) in Settings>Location.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/k7reupon5dcy42p/a4VNWyJLGJ
P.S. I`ve heard that with 4.2.2 some things are fixed, or at least not causing so many wakelocks, but we`ll have to wait and see.

disable auto sync on those apps you greenified ...thats all greenify does , (when u put it in deep sleep u cant sync or disable sync on thos apps, apps are auto killed and put to deep sleep) there will be no need to even install it then. there is nothing magical happening. just a another way to fool users.
I've been trying to nail down the maps wakelock which appears to be NetworklocationLocator. It's been driving me mad! I disabled everything in maps but no better. Then I found another setting and I've had a huge improvement since.
Try this:
Settings > Accounts and Sync > Google > Location Settings > Location Access. Now turn off Google's location Service.
This will give you loads more battery and use less data. The downside? The weather location doesn't show current location. I just fix the weather manually to my home town. That's all I need. If I'm passing through Slough on the train I don't need the weather forecast for it! Also in maps it doesn't give you an approx fix, instead just turn on GPS like you would anyway and get the fix.
i really don't see much,if anything, wrong here. You have 5 hours and 50 minutes of awake time, less 2 hours and 10 minutes where the screen was on and another 1 hour and 5 minutes that the phone was active. So in reality you only have about 2.5 hours of time out of 60 where the phone could have been in deep sleep but wasn't.
Out of that 2.5 hours, 1 hour was google talk/hangouts, which you can simply sign out of, and 20 minutes is htc weather updates. That's leaving you with just over an hour out of 60, or about 1.5%, which is excellent.
You could probably do even a bit better by greenifying facebook and maps.
The kernel wakelocks are normal, the phone needs to spend some time keeping the OS running and communicating with the cell towers, i bet everyone will see similar msm_hsic_host usage as long as they have the cell radio running.

To OP:
I see that you are having 2 days of No Data Connection in BatteryStats, as shown below. Is it because you are connected to Wifi all the while instead of connected to the 3G mobile network? And your wifi has been turned on for more than a day. Basically, is 3G that kills battery. Perhaps you can try not to be connected to Wifi and see if the phone can last more than a day?
Thanks!
Every Android user should try Greenify:

Google Battery drain

Got my mate 7 A few weeks ago. Love it. Getting awesome sot (8.5) the last charge mainly using mobile data..
But today google contact sync is draining so much battery. I've exported and deleted all contacts from google. Disabled back up my phone in settings and even disabled the app in settings and it still opens... I don't really want to have to root it. Any ideas I may not have tried?
Also wonder,my phone is rooted though, well, didn't want to freeze any Google services but some features like backup system is stubbornly running even after disable in settings. Don't know any good medicine from this issue.

Yes I know that. The thing that drives me crazy is that I have no control over running background apps, like backup, that were disabled via Google provided interface. This is type of cheating to have an interface that doesn't do much.

I froze with TB google app, then defrozed it and converted to user app, also didnt enable google now service, after all I have drain 10% per 6 hours at night, while phone is on extreme battery mode and just laying on the night stand without anyone touching it. Screen on time is impressive but battery drains while screen is off.

Screen on time is impressive but battery drains while screen is off.

Mine is also draining too much energy while screen is off. Like 100% to 55%!! All in a matter of 10 hours and a half.
Have you fixed this particular issue yet?
Please see my case here:

It did solve the problem temporary, however my phone died (not related reason) warranty replaced the phone and new one, uprooted, doesn't have that issue any more.

How did you fixed it temporarily?
But the one million dollar question is: How much battery is lost while idle overnight?
This is the real question I think, because in all my tests, no matter the build version, I have got l least 5 hours of SOT (17 hours of use in total), which is not bad,
but most people get at least 7 hours SOT (in some 30+ hours) I guess I use it too frequently.
So, that would be the main question.
Please, do try to answer and tell us. Thank you!

I have already told it in this discussion, I have frost (later removed actually) google app system application, and fresh installed it from the market as user app.
As I said earlier though, now I use unrooted phone with locked bootloader, in completely original state (except I use tsf shell and disabled all unused system apps) and no longer have any problem with battery.

Guys I noticed that now phone drains battery faster when just browsing internet..
Had 20% and after 10 mins got 15%
Why it is so draining .. it is just browsing pages.. no video no audio at all..
