Usb mode after update - G2 and Desire Z General

I tried searching the forums and did not see anything relevant. Anyone else notice after the g2 update when you plug the phone into a usb, the phone turns on usb mode? I ask because before, the phone would ask, and would wait for me to turn on usb mode. I do not use that mode often. I plug into usb for charging. Any way to change that behavior?

Has to be a setting because mines doesnt do that. It always askes to mount.

If you have Winamp media player installed, that's probably the reason. I'm not sure why, but Winamp has the option to automatically mount your sd card whenever plugged into the computer.

I have an unrelated question. What is the build number if you've been updated over the air?
I was part of the test 3 weeks ago and have 1.22.531.5 and am wondering if I will be updated or if this is the final release.

It was winamp thanks. And the build question mine is 1.22.531.8

it's there for when, or if, you plug your phone into your car via usb. i think its good cause i always forgot to mount when i used it in mine.

The problem is I never use the usb mount unless I am file transferring which is very very rare

This is very odd. I've heard of some people having trouble getting it to connect as USB storage (even experienced it on a few occasions) but never having it automatically connect. First off, I have to ask the stupid question: Are you sure it is connected as USB storage and not just connected to the PC? Meaning does the drive show up on your computer? Second, do you have any apps installed like widgetsoid or any other automation apps (there is a chance something you have installed is forcing it to connect automagically)? Third, are you running any custom roms or kernels? And finally, the ****ty question, have you tried a factory reset/full phone wipe?
Are you using a custom rom?
I've never had this happen when I was on stock or CM7, but I was trying out Modaco it was auto turning on usb storage for some reason. Just from my experience though.

[Q] Usb mode and Download issue. Help!!!

Hi All,
This is my first Samsung Device after many Years of using Android specifically HTC devices.
I have a couple of issue firstly when I need to transfer files between my pc and my Phone storage. is there a quicker way to just plug in the phone to pc and enable USB mode rather than having to disconnect and click the usb mode button then connect the cable? It is very inconvenient and annoying having to first disconnect the cable then reconnected when the tells you to. On my previous HTC devices its very straight forward and painless.
Secondly is downloading files on the phone, I was trying to download an avi file but it was cancelled because the file was not compatible with my Phone, just this morning I was trying to download the New market APk from the XDA attachment link but the phone will not download it due to the file not being compatible with my phone. I have never had this problem before with my HTCs, never before.
Can anyone advice as these issues are making me want to go back to HTC seriously...
Turn usb debugging on and make sure you have a app installed that can handle apks.

Thanks for that, Usb mode works fine now. How ever what do you mean by an app that can handle APK? id this because I do not have root access? Because I transfered the apks manually and can install them.
Astro, rootexplore or something like that.

No USB mount/debugging, only charging

I am trying to help my friend. I was going to root his Nexus S 4G for him (I have Nexus S myself and unlocked/rooted a long time ago). Well when I plug his phone in to the computer, nothing happens except for charging. No USB mount, no USB debugging notification, nothing. No response other than the phone starts charging.
Using another computer and another USB cable, I eliminated those as variables. The problem lies in his phone. Is there way anyone knows that I can help him fix this?
If your friend didn't install USB drivers the first time, it may not pop up again.

Does the phone show up in the Device Manager?

No, there is no indication the computer sees the phone at all. Tried with phone booted and with phone in bootloader mode.
I would assume his USB connection on the phone was faulty, but it does charge....
Try looking in Settings > About phone > Status
If Battery status says "Charging (AC)" instead of "Charging (USB)" then there might be a problem with the USB connection/cable.
I have a belkin USB cable that does this. I plug in the supplied one and the issue is gone

The cable is not the problem. Thanks though.

Had the same issue.
New cable worked.
The same cable works with other phones!
Well I'd do a "Factory data reset" first. If that still doesn't help then there are 4 things I can think of right now:
Uninstall the USB driver in Windows and try to connect the phone again.
Try to plug the phone in an Ubuntu machine.
If wifi is working then I'll try to put the OTA package on the SD card, and flash that via stock recovery.
The last resort is to boot the phone in Download mode and use Odin to flash the stock ROM image.

[Q] Help with my usb?

Hi, I'm new around here although I check in periodically to see if you guys have anything cool that I can put on my Continuum My phone's usb broke recently, but luckily I still have one from my old phone from like 2/3 years ago, the LG Chocolate Touch. Anyways, I want to install a ROM on my phone, but I can't seem to connect the data. It has let me connect the data before, just at random times. Like, it charges fine but I can't access the contents of my sdcard. Is there any way to fix this? (Sorry if this is the wrong forum, as I said, I'm new here, and I'm in a bit of a rush.)

I'm almost positive I did.
I've used USB cables from both LG and Palm to transfer data and even install roms on my Continuum. Most cables are built exactly the same, except for some Motorola and Blackberry cables I think. So I would think it has to be your drivers, try unistalling and reinstalling if they are already on your computer.
Edit: Also, my computer seems to recognize my phone faster if USB Debugging is turned on.

[Q] Can't access storage via USB

This is getting frustrating. Have the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 completely stock in black. My girlfriend has the white one. We can't connect either one via USB to transfer songs and such. So far I've installed the driver, reinstalled them, formatted and did it all over again with no luck. The computer just continues to make the noise that it does when you connect a USB device. Sometimes it'll do it 20 times in a row or so. Never successfully recognizes the device.
This is my first time having this type of issue with an Android although I've never owned a Samsung before. Mostly HTC devices. Any help would be appreciated. I've done searches on the forum and didn't have much luck.
Q: How do I connect my S4 to the computer so I can transfer some songs to it.
If you end up rooting your s4 usb mass storage enabler on the market helped me get my tablet to recognize my s4. Other than that I'm not sure why your computer isn't recognizing it. Good luck!

It's definitely weird. I have friends with the phone who didny even need to install the drivers. Unfortunately we only have the one pc.

If you have any drivers from previous phones try uninstalling them. Even htc sync has caused problems in the past. I'm no expert by any means but I've troubleshooted plenty.

Try a different cable and definitely try a different USB port. Sometimes windows gets messed up and won't accept a new device on the same port.

Tried that. Even reformatted. I've been through about 5 cables. I doubt that's the issue. I actually reformatted again last night.
I use Airdroid for all of my file transfers. It's fast but requires wifi.

This has been my only issue with S4. Kind of frustrating but I know there has to be a solution to transfer files via usb. I almost wonder if it has something to do with my hardware. It's pretty standard though.

Ok so an update on this issue. Still haven't came up with a solution.
Since my last post we've moved from Sprint to T-Mobile. Decided to stick with the S4. New phone with the sane exact issue. Reformatted, reinstalled drivers.
She also got a new laptop and wouldn't you know it both phones work perfect without installing drivers or anything.
I'd really like to track this down so I'm going to give as much detail as possible.
Both phones are stock.
Both work on her laptop. Neither will work with my PC.
I've gone to thr device manager and manually updated the driver. The comp recognizes my phone by name. On a good day I can browse. It'll still randomly reconnect so transfers are impossible.
The computer has 8 usb 2.0 ports. I've tried them all. We have quite a few micro usb cables. Tried them all.
It still feels like a driver issue. Possibly some kind of issue with my motherboard? Why haven't I had an issue with anything else? Would a dedicated usb card make a difference?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
