Anybody else's G2 load the gallery extremely slow? It just started happening tonight and I did a hard reset but it didn't fix the problem.
Yeah. Its slow. The more pics and vids the slower it'll load.

Mine also is slow. Reminds me of my old crappy phones. I would expect more from the G2 on this subject.
Slow at stock speeds. Ok when overclocked. Pretty sure the faster your SD card, the faster gallery will load. The SD card that come with our phones isn't all that great.

Yeah, mine has always been slow.

Mine JUST started becoming slow after the ota update. Pretty sure it has something to due with the new update because it was perfect before.

Humm thats funny mines is pretty fast and I have about 400 photo but only 120 max a folder. Videos load up a little slow the first time but after that its all smooth

Here's what I do to keep my gallery fast... Well, in a way.
The gallery automatically updates to your Picasa web albums. I highly recommend Picasa. You can also download a desktop client that is a great picture manager. I store ALL my pictures on Picasa web albums. I even purchased the extra 20 or so gigs of storage for $5. Totally worth it.
So I keep one folder (the camera folder) with my recently taken pictures. When it gets to about 15-20 pictures I use Picasa Tool Pro to upload them to a Picasa web folder called G2 Pictures. Then from there I can create different folders for different types of pictures and categories and move them there.
So when I open my gallery it only loads the picture that represents each album, instead of all of them. Then when I open each individual album it downloads them from Picasa. So this way I have access to ALL my pictures all the time, save space on my phone, and the gallery stays running fast. The downside is that when you open a specific album it takes a sec to download all the pictures. But I haven't found this to be a problem.
So yeah you might want to try this. It keeps my gallery fairly fast and I have hundreds if not thousands of pictures.
Well just my .02.

Anyone have issues with their gallery app constantly reloading? I've got about 1100 pictures on my picasa account and about 150 in the camera folder. And some other random ones strung about the phone. But I don't think that's too many, for the phone especially since they don't load alllll of pics at the one time (logically at least). But every time I open the app I don't hardly have time to click on a folder before the screen blacks and it reloads it self....over and over again.
If its a common issues anyone find a good alternative? Preferably one you can share from.

It is doing that because we only hav 324 mb of ra available to use and we are set to start killing apps at 40 mb free. It will quickly cache and maybe kill your gallery app.
Als your vm heap must be set to 24 instead of 32.

It crashed on me the first time I used it after my install. Very troublesome..
Likewise its a major problem with the g2 I checked a lot of the market comments they're saying the same thing so I uninstalled
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yup....I just tried it, and it crashed
I uninstalled the update and now it's fine. I hope they fix this soon cause I really like the new UI
I just tried it and it lagged the phone when I quit the app. Everything was responding incredibly slowly - about 15 seconds to flip from one launcher page to the next.
I was finally able to execute a power off sequence and reboot the phone. When it was done booting and the widgets had all settled down I tried viewing the same video again (the "I want an iPhone" animated video) and everything was fine until I quit the video and then the phone was wedged again (15 seconds to switch home pages).
Time to uninstall (if my phone ever reboots)...
works fine here
Thanks guys! Looks like it's split pretty evenly for the most part.
One more question for those that visit other parts of xda - heard anything of the same thing happening on other phones?
At this point, it seems like a big issue, I hope t-mobile posts an update soon.

Either or can do it. T-mobile through an OTA (they've had to do this before for an issue), or the app creator. It all depends on the circumstance. I'm betting the fix will come from tmobile's side though. Not that I would depend on them, I just have a hunch.
Eveything is working fine here. On a side note the people that are having probelms are you logged in?
I remeber back on my g1 I had problems with youtube only when I was sign in

hi i didnt want to start a new post but i have a prob with youtube i was going to upload a 4min video from my g2 but it keeps saying you can not upload a video larger than 1gb i know a 4min vid is not over 1g can anyone give me a hand im not new to android so i know something is set wrong are im missing something
Its probably an HD video and Id assume the mobile youtube version does not allow you to upload that large of a file. Your best bet, upload it to your computer and to do it from their.
i cant even find the vid on the phone with my pc how do i get in to the gallery the vid says location unknown and its not showing a file size i took the vid on the g2s camera

I have tried this one. Not that helpful for Arc (maybe we need more options in the slide bar?)
IIRC, the write/read speed was 5/15 MB/s before I use SD speed increase. And after trying 1k,2k,3k, and 4k buffer, the read speed is about the same (4.8~5.7) and probably have a slight boost at the first second of writing. The read speed increased a bit to 17~20 MB/s.

For me sometimes after putting new photos or videos on my arc, it doesnt refresh gallery and all pictures are empty. I need to hit taskkiller and reopen gallery to fix that one, maybe we've got same prob.
Maybe the gallery thumbnails are bugged, causing a strange behaviour(albums appearing and dissapearing). You can erase them this way:
Go to SD(with Astro or similar) - Android - Data - com.sonyericsson.gallery - delete "cache" folder.
Then restart the gallery and let it load everything.
I hope it helps.
The stock android gallery is pretty slow and dreadful, it used to cause my htc hero to grind to a halt, and it's still not exactly snappy on the arc.
If you want a fast gallery app, try quickpic from the market.
Still got the problem... cant take screenshots on phone either so cant show how it looks. Ive put a 32gb card into the phone would that make a difference?? just took about 10 pics tonite and cant view any of them.... broken image thumbnail pic.
finally i found my solution!
my scans found no media, nothing in the gallery, nothing in the music player and i was going crazy, but then i found this:
If there is a (possibly empty) file named ".nomedia" (without quotations, and make sure you put the dot as the first character) in a folder of your card, then this folder WILL NOT BE SCANNED (if there is a .nomedia in the root of the SD card, then the SD card will NOT be scanned).
So make sure you delete any unwanted of those and then try
"Rescan Media" by Aditya Talpade (android market)
Disable Facebook inside Xperia, if you dont want to suffer from gallery load times, the gallery tries to sync a new folder called "new from friends" each time.
I didn't have a problem with the gallery till I got the 2.3.4 update. Like most, I have the same problem, it takes time to open a snap. Sometimes it's displayed as a broken image.
What would be the best alternative to the stock gallery app?
I've got one other problem. I had formatted my phone a month back. Before that, I backed up my photos. When I transferred them back, the order got messed up in the gallery and so are the dates. Anyway to rectify that?
Any reason why my gallery thumbnails are taking forever to load?? I originally had pudding 4.5.91 - 2.3.4 and flashed Ninja SF 4.5 onto my phone a few hours ago. When I had pudding's 4.5.91 gallery was smooth, very fast and responsive. Now with Ninja SF, thumbnails take years to load and it is much much slower... ANy reason why this would be? I work at AT&T and showing off my gallery is something I do on a daily basis, this is extremely important for me.

when you delete thumnbeil firs start gallery maybe is slow, you test two times
Suppose I can try that because just deleted both thumbnails and rebooted no fix. The thumbnail folder recreates on the sdcard and only recreates the first 7 thumbnails in my gallery. Thumbnail folder did not recreate in sdcard-ext, this is where the pics are located.
You think opening gallery after I delete thumbnails will do trick?? Will post screenshot of gallery in a minute.

Two things. Did you have pictures on sdcard or sdcard-ext? Gallery is still extremely slow after couple reboots and deletion of thumbnail folder.

i have photo in sdcard and sdcard ext.
gallery is slow first start? if it is slow first start after delete thumbnail it ok, you attempt that gallery make new thumnbail.
if it slow at second start the problem not are thumnbail, try download alternativ gallery (gallery + market)
For thumbnails to work I have to pictures in internal sdcard and I do not want that, may try new gallery such as QuickPic. If there is a way I'd like to get them on the sdcard-ext and still be able to use stock gallery because I love the new gallery but if not I suppose I can go with QucikPic. Please let me know if any of you have a solution for fixing my thumbnails while having my pics on the external sdcard instead of internal phone storage.

maybe you sd is old and slow, it's possible?
Very possible actually. I'll get a new one today and see how that goes. Thanks for the help! Anybody know anything about fixing up battery life issues with Ninja SF 4.5 and Faux's newest OC kernel flashed over it as well as Juggernaut's battery fix mod. I had GREAT battery life before I flashed these and now I hate my battery life.
How old is old though, it's only been probably 9-10 months with the sd card??

as personal preference im not a fan of "date view" I organize via folders so my OCD kicks in, I create albums(collections) and by default its oldest to newest (which can be fixed via picasa pc web interface after some cursing and google) I just am not fan of the overall interface. Ideally; for example, id have a folder on my device and google photos would keep that folder so if i have a reddit saved images folder lets call it "reddit" it would backup my images to that folder and keep the folder structure on the google photos side.
Theres nothing wrong with the photo's app per-say i just prefer the "gallery" method of sorting and organizing

Absolutely!! Quick pic is THE best Android gallery app BY FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR. Seriouisly it's hands down the best. I can't even begin to list the reasons why cuz I don't feel like making a wall of text to crit you for over 9000!
QuickPic
In my opinion Sony album is better than quick pics. You can find the apk on xda
I've been using kk gallery app since it's basically just the aosp one.

Another vote for QuickPic here. Best replacement I found when Google Photos took over as the primary app for Nexus devices.
